A Phone that puts the smart in Smartphone – Moved over from an iPhone and couldn't be happier. Love the big screen. Google assistant makes life so much easier, it has dramatically reduced the time I have to pick up my phone. Its a lot smarter than Siri and gives the right information at the right time. Sub-par phone – Pretty good phone, however I would strongly advise anyone getting it due to its one issue of having an absolutely terrible battery. Phone was fine for the first year or so but eventually started turning off while there was still a charge. I replaced it which helped but the issue has started up again. There is also very little support from both… Read more
google or huawei. Unless you're buying this brand new and are planning to upgrade in less than a year, STAY. AWAY.
Highly recommend NOT purchasing ANY Huawei product – My product broke after 6 months with a major fault (wouldn't turn on or charge at all) and Huawei refused to give a refund. They stated they did not follow Australian consumer law (which is illegal), and that I was only entitled to a repair or refurbished (used) replacement. This information was a complete lie, and goes against Australian consumer… Read more
law, and was an attempt to mislead me. Eventually I was refunded through the vendor I bought the phone of, however Huawei attempted to make it very difficult for them. Huawei rang me up personally during the process of a refund from the vender, and attempted to bully me into accepting a refurbished replacement, by stating that my information was wrong, even though I had checked with the fair trading services twice. I would highly recommend that you DO NOT buy any Huawei product, as they do not respect you as a customer, or the law of the country in which they are selling the device to.
Good, but a little expensive – I had a great experience using it, but I think should be a little cheaper. Looking forward for the new models and new features. Things I would like the phone to have: More memory, better camera and I would like to have the home button in the back of the phone. Show details
Fast, big and awesome – This is my 3rd Nexus device and 4th Android. I've started with one of the earliest Nexuses from Samsung moved onto Nexus 5 (LG) and have now jumped on to this "flagship" the Nexus 6p. This has been the best Android phone I've used so far. It's speedy, good battery, awesome fingerprint unlock, great screen and speakers. Feel: It's a big phone… Read more
and takes sometime getting use to. The metal body although a bit slippery does give it a very solid feel and holding anything plasticy afterwards feels cheap. For me the size is not really an issue as it fits in my pockets and I've always used two hands on the phone. If you're used to using one hand and it's a must then this phone is too big and you should be considering the 5 inch phone. I do hope they can optimise on the bezel next time round to save on the ~1cm on top and bottom and leave the screen size as big - this would be ideal for me.
The unlock feature at the back of the phone has been amazing. The position of the finger print, the speed at which it unlocks the phone... makes daily use of the phone a great experience.
Speed:
This is a snappy phone and certainly made it a joy to use after my Nexus 5. Applications load fast and even with multiple apps running in the background I haven't had any issues. There are a few apps here and there that do lag (and very rarely halt the phone for a few seconds) but it seems to be a problem with the apps then the actual phone or OS.
Battery:
For such a large device and the battery which is 3450mAh I was hoping it would be better. I am a heavy user and I get around 12-14 hours a day with the use of navigation, web and messaging apps. Medium users can probably stretch this to 18 hours. I think Android has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to battery saving and optimization and this has always been an issue for me on all Android devices. Hopefully with the release of Android N, it'll improve further. My family member does have an Iphone 6 plus (with a somewhat smaller battery) and it seems to last as long. I am taking half a star for this.
Camera:
This is a huge improvement to anything else I've used. I don't take many pictures or movies but the quality on the Nexus 6p is really good. Definitely on par with the Iphones from my non professional assessment, I think most people wouldn't notice any difference. If with my Nexus 5 I was considering purchasing a camera for travels as the pictures just didn't turn out well at all, this phone has completely removed the need.
Google Photos has also been a great app, so damn simple to use.
Screen:
No issues with the screen, the colors are good but I've never had any issues with screen unless there is something to compare to 1 to 1 I cannot see the difference. The auto brightness adjustment has never worked for me, so mine is centered and I adjust occasionally depending on the environment. It's not great in the sun but that's expected.
Speakers:
The speakers on this phone are great, the volume on the loudspeakers is way better then the nexus 5 and so is the quality. No issues with talking on the phone as well. I have some people report that they hear an echo when speaking to me but I am not sure if it's Telstra or the receivers' devices.
OS:
Not much to say about this besides that I don't think I'd be able to use a skins/launchers from Samsung, HTC or LG. The UX here is great, no bloatware not weird skins and the basic use seems very intuitive. My phone has received 4 official updates already, another reason why I bought a nexus. No one is interfering with the OS feel or my updates.
One other point to mention is when I got this phone it had network issues on Telstra (only on Telstra). There was an issue with the Telstra 4g and 4gx (there is a huge forum about this on Google groups). I had my phone switched to 3G and needed to wait for 3-4 weeks to have an update released to solve this. I really don't think this would happen on other flagship devices and was a bit disappointed in those 4 weeks that this wasn't tested. That's the other reason I'd like to take off half a star.
Overall this is a great phone and if you're looking for a flagship Android device it won't disappoint. Definitely the best I've used so far. As with anything there are room for improvements but I think I'll be able to use this beyond the 2 years life time that unfortunately phones have.
Daily Driver Explained – This review will be about phones daily usage only not the specs for that you can look elsewhere. I brought this phone through google store online, when it was out of stock. I got the email few days a later. You can't get the nexus protect plan here in Australian only America. It covers it for accidental damage twice a year I read. 128gb model… Read more · 3
will set you back $1099 on the google store. You won't be able to purchase that model in a retail store. It delivered by toll express which took about 5 business days to arrive. If your planning on keepeing the phone for 2 plus years I recommend you buying another usb type c cord with your order, although it does come with a small cord which is useful for charging at work if you work behind a desk.
Battery explained - the more apps you use and games you play the more stress it puts on the battery. The size of the battery doesn't necessarily mean it will last longer. My daily usage is playing clash of clan when I get a notification, 6 active emails constantly syncing, snapchat mostly but I also have other social apps which I use occasionally. From 4am to 10pm I'll have about 15% spare. The amolid screen plays a big role. When I look at battery stat's the screen is always highest percentage used roughly 10% of the battery life from 100% to 15% with 4 hours of SOT. The most draining apps on the phone is FB & SUBWAY SURFERS.
Cover/skins/screen protector - I brought the official nexus case which cost $35. Not worth the cash. I got a carbon skin on mine with a clear skin case which is. 0.3mm thick which is perfect for me. This phone is tall meaning when I put in pocket It will bulk out. I love the naked look but because of the price I paid for this phone a bit of protection is required if you want to look after your investment. No screen protection for me. The gel cover on the phone rises above the screen so if you do drop the device least it has a chance of survival. Yes I've dropped it few times twice on the face no damage. The tempered glass screen protectors are not required for this devise. The phone does feel slippery on its own so adding a cover helps.
Heating issue - I brought this phone regardless of the reported 810 issue because I wanted a stock android experience. I've come from the one plus one. I have no issue when playing COC only when I play Surfers, you can feel the heat through the skin and the cover on your fingers. When you do touch the screen with your palm you will feel the warmth. This is my experience after 30 mins of SURFERS.
Charging & Doze - when I buy a new device I always let the battery drain then full charge it from zero. I've always done these to my phones. Takes 1 hour 20 minutes to charge from zero. But if your using the phone while it's charging it will take longer. tens to warm up during charging while using it. A few times I've forgotten to charge the phone at night at 45% when I wake up 5 hours later it sitting on 42% which is awesome thanks to Doze which kicks in after 10 minutes of not touching phone I just charge it when I get to work. If you heavily use your phone which I've done a few times 30 mins charge in the afternoon before you go out can give you 30% extra as long as you don't touch it.
Camera - I've previously had HTC Desire, Samsung galaxy note, oneplus one then nexus 6p. This is my best camera in a smart phone. It has never crashed since new. Good pictures especially low light outside shots. Videos can be shaky, slow recording is a plus @ 240fps I love the slow audio recording it captures.
Overall - I'll buy it again a heart beat. 3 updates since December. First was for 4GLTE and the other two were security updates. Phone feels good in the hands naked, Fast charging is sweet, the amolid screen colors are phenomenal. The heating issue is a minor problem but you will notice it. The stock android layout is perfect with no added bloatware. I've only deleted Google play book and disabled Gmail, using boxer email.
