Peeling paint but a car which runs well – Car runs well, economical with petrol and never had any major issues. Biggest issue is the peeling paint. It is continually coming off the car and it is peeling in more spots in bigger pieces. Show details
Good car; disappointing paintwork – This is my 4th Hyundai and I have been happy with it generally in the sense that it is economical with fuel and has never broken down. However the quality of the paintwork is extremely disappointing. The car is not even 5 years old yet and the paint has come off on both the front and back bumpers. The paint has just worn off in parts and you can… Read more
see the black plastic underneath. I've put a pic of the front as my profile picture so you can see (and it's worse at the back). This is not from heavy washing or scrubbing (it is only ever hand washed with a soft cloth). I assumed that this would be covered by the 5 yr warranty, but turns out that the paint warranty only lasts 3 years. It's disappointing as it's clearly not normal wear. Their standards have clearly dropped since the last Hyundais I bought. I have taken it back to the place of purchase and they are seeking a response about whether Hyundai will repair the damage for me. I'll update when I receive a response.
No customer service – The i20 has done only 30,000 klms but is out of warranty. Now the complete rack and pinion steering needs to be replaced due to a fault. We have tried 3 different steering mechanics who all tell us only Hyundai can do it at a great cost. Hyundai serviced the vehicle only 300 klms ago and there is no mention of any steering issue then. Now they… Read more
just shrug their shoulders and say it's our problem as it is out of warranty. Don't we service our cars to pick up potential problems early???
Also the paint has faded on the front bumper and mirrors and is almost non existent now. On other parts of the car the green color has completely changed. Cheap cheap cheap!!! Stay away from Hyundai. There is no customer service and they are just throw away cars.
Good small car – I Bought car march 2012, since then I have done 98k kms, brakes were very dusty and needed replace rotors at same time around 35k kms could not be machined so hyundai puts cheap rotors to start. Car performace is ok for running around alone or 2 people, but put 4 extra people on it and go up hill car gets very lazy and needs to be floored. … Read more
Got a failed shock absorber in rear at 98k kms which damaged tyres, bad thing dealer service not said anything about leaky shock doubt a full sudden failure, independant repair plus 2 tyres $600.
I get around 600kms with 40 liters petrol mixed driving.
Ok for short term or running around town – It drives alright, sometimes is it temperamental to start if the clutch is not in to the floor (car is a manual), has a tiny turning circle and accelerates relatively quickly. the power steering is great and you get about 650- 670 km on a tank of fuel. Has in built ipod/aux system and it works relatively well (does not support android on ipod… Read more

However...
The driverside window fell out of its socket after 2 years. and both front windows need to be fixed now as they are showing signs of it happening again soon.
Both sides have had the silver plating on the handles replaced with the driver side replaced twice and it is sharp and caused an injury.
The air con is incredibly weak and only is effective when the window is also slightly open to move the air around
The headlights do next to nothing unless it is completely dark.
The seat belt stalk on the drivers side has been replaced after it told me it wasn't plugged in when it was and i had to drive for a month with that bing sounds before it could be replaced.
Also sometimes the radio turns itself on and off if it doesn't connect to the bluetooth properly
The sun visors melted and tore and had to be replaced, yet the passenger side does not fold up anymore.
The exterior paint is now peeling on the side mirrors and will need to be fixed before my warranty runs out.
The car is less than 5 years old and has been back to the dealer to fix 3 times already.
It also doesn't like large hills and sometimes hates going into 3rd gear.
Best Christmas present I've ever received! – Hubby got me an i20 for Christmas in 2010. It runs great and has good fuel economy. As I have just 1 child, the 2 door version is fine for me but if you have more than 1 child it's probably worth going for the 4 door version only because it's a bit of a pain to put the seat forward and back to get people into the back seat. *EDIT Nov 6 2015*… Read more
Sad to report that my beloved i20 has gone off to be a parts donor for other little i20s in need. A few weeks ago I was badly rear ended and then pushed into the car in front of me. The insurance assessor came out and with his report my car was written off due to too much damange. With a payout from the insurance company and some money out of our account I am now driving a 2015 Sunflower yellow Hyundai Accent 4 door hatchback. I will miss my little i20 but she lives on in my heart :) It's mine!
Never buy Hyundai again – After having many excel Hyundai, brought this car brand new and have been disappointed ever since, radio turned it self up and down, clutch made noises when pushed in, drivers seat belt has been replaced as it kept trying to tell me it wasn't clicked in when it was, air con is terrible, I can get colder air out the widow.. very distressed – I have had my 2011 Hyundai I 20 for 3 years, so far faulty gearbox switch replaced by Hyundai, blocked aircon, door handles interior broken, remotes to keys broken, fuel tank popping, rear passenger tyre needs replacing yearly, radio turns itself up and down, pinging even with supreme fuel, warranty being looked into, also an initial recall with a fault in the instrument panel, so very distressed that a 3 year old car is having all these issues
Love my car but little details are lacking – As far as performance goes, my 2012 i20 is more than I could ask for. It handles well, is comfortable to sit in for long periods of time, great on fuel - my last tank I got 546kms out of before I refuelled. Unfortunately the stereo system stopped working over a month ago and trying to get it fixed via a service centre has been a bit of an… Read more · 1
ordeal. I have heard that things like the stereo tend to be a bit unreliable. Obviously not vital to the running of the car, but I'd say these little cheap finishes are the reason the price stays so low. Looks great, reasonably quiet, fuel efficient Cheap finishes
Not bad! – My11 i20 1.4 petty. 5 speed manual. Nice car, very solid. Just what I need as a Paramedics student in Brisbane. It's nothing remarkable - the engine lacks any real urge, but it's a quiet little unit and does what's expected of it. The 5 speed is light and precise, though I can see why Hyundai added a 6th gear in later models - the engine sounds… Read more
and feels a little thrashy/strained at highway speeds. Clutch doesn't have a great deal of feel but it's light and pleasant to use.
Sound system is good for the money and the dash and controls are simple and easy to use. Averaging about 6.5l/100km's combined. No issues after 51,000 Km's. Hyundai are very helpful and I have the reassurance of 5 years warranty. Reliable, fuel efficient and quiet, good value for money, solid build. Clutch a lacking a bit of feel, strained at highway speeds (6th gear would have rectified this to some degree I'm sure)
Not bad – I purchased my i20 in 2011 and have used it mostly for drives around the city; ie to and from work. I have to say it is an economical little run around, petrol use is not bad getting about 550km out of the 45L tank. The 5 speed manual is ok, probably could use a little more power in second but other then thay alright. Good for long, interstate… Read more · 1
drives as well. All around not a bad little car. Reliable, easy to park, great little car A lot of plastic on the inside that shows up every minor mark.
Ongoing problems – Aircon faulty at delivery, rear side window glass had a lamination fault at delivery, low fuel indicator light didn't work, engine pings like an old 2ltr Ford engine, computer reprogrammed twice now- problem 80% fixed. 1 .4ltr engine not powerful enough for the weight of the car. Fuel economy not as good as stated, it works out to 6.5l to 100km… Read more
not the 5.3 as stated. Engine stalls without warning. Plastic interior seat handle cheap and easily broken. Sorry Hyundai we have owned three of your product now, but this has turned us off ever buying another one. Body shape Too much to write here, see above.
with all of those problems , I would have thought your rating would have been bad or terrible , ok… Read more (+2 replies)
Hyundai I20 – Great little car bought to do round trip of 100 km each day. Found it to be fuel efficient and because it runs on 91 oct it is a bit cheaper to fill up. Handles well at highway speed limits with plenty of power to over take but suspension is a little firm. Zippy around town and easy to park. Cheaper to service than european cars of similar… Read more
style. I found the drivers seat to be comfortable for tall driver but with seat back rear leg room is limited. Boot space is adequate for shopping but need to fold seat down for luggage on longer trips. Auto gear box changes smoothly and panel fit and finish seems good for cheaper car.Tyres transmit a bit of road noise but with radio on its fine. Comes with blue tooth and USB port plus folding wing mirrors which are great accessories for a car in this price braket but does not have cruise control which would be a real plus for long trips.
Only real negative is the black plastic interior trim, it makes the car interior a bit bland a lighter colur plastic or some brighter plastic trim would lift the appearance. Drive away price was also great. We have now travelled more than 60K, no rattles and there are still heaps of km's left on the tyres. Reliablity. 5 Year warranty and fuel efficiency. Interior black plastic makes the car a bit bland.

2011 I 20 - disasterous nightmare do not buy – Front seats are faulty, extremely uncomfortable due to steel bar at lower section of "spine". This to the extent that they are unusable on any ongoing basis. Dealer technicians agreed as did service manager and initially representative from Hyundai Australia but he only wanted to be seen to have done something without addressing the actual… Read more
problem which remains unresolved.
Customer care division at head office then accused me of being a strange shape!!!!
Personal letter to the general manager was intercepted and replied to by an office staff member who never inspected the vehicle at any stage just as the Hyundai Australia never returned to inspect to failed attempt to fix vehicle.
Front seats. Clutch constantly squeaked at delivery, broken air cond valve in glove box, hand brake faulty at delivery
Happy Enough – It's not a top Japanese car but the i20 is worth considering. For me it's purely a run around car and it does this job very well. Cheap to run, cheap to insure, services are cheaper than its competitors and its cheaper to buy than its competitors. And to top it off, the unbeatable warranty that gives me 5 years peace of mind. Warranty, value for… Read more · 1
money, cheap to insure, cheap to run, very quiet in the cabin, safety features Small boot, 2011 Elite radio not covered in user manual, no illumination at night to insert key into ignition barrel, steering is a bit too light
Excellent – I love this car. I knew it was fuel efficient when I bought it but it exceeded my expectations. I drive long distances everyday, often in heavy traffic and only need to fill up once a week, compared to twice a week in my old car, so my fuel bill has halved! It's a 1.4L and drives really well: smooth with a lot more power than I'm used to, which… Read more
makes it easier to overtake and drive up hills. Excellent on fuel,Body design looks sporty,Attractive interior design,Good size boot,USB port is awesome (so easy to listen to music, charge phone etc),Adjustable seatsSafety features I have a 3 door and the lever on the driver's side seat, that flips the seat forward, is in an awkward position when wanting to access the back seat from the drivers side, but this is only a problem specific to my situation. The fuel cap is on the passenger side, which I know is the norm, but I prefer it on the driver's side.
Excellent – Driving the i20 is quite fun. The car is really zippy and the steering so light and the gears so easy to change. Visibility is excellent from all angles when trying to reverse. The bluetooth is a great feature, making taking calls safe while driving. Your phone automatically connects when you turn your car on and disconnects when you turn the car… Read more
off. The system even stores your phone numbers so you can safeley make a call while driving. Glovebox is quite large which is good as there are not a lot of storage compartments. Overall the car is aestetically appealing. Interior and body both look good. It even signals what gear you should be in for the speed you are doing. I previously owned a Getz which I loved to drive - the i20 is a great upgrade and offers heaps of additional, modern features that are well worth the little extra money spent. I love that the car comes standard with 6 airbags and all the features that make it a 5 star ancap rated car. It gives me a little more piece of mind. Having a 5 year unlimited kms warranty is also a bonus. Fuel economy is brilliant. Great on FuelAppealing Blue Dash LightingBluetoothiPod Connectivity5 Star Ancap Safety Rating Hard SeatsNot a lot of storage space for bits and pieces
