Install a Veranda

Don’t assume that because council has given approval, that this company will complete the job. Back in October 2025, we called into our local Stratco store looking for a company to build an veranda for us. Stratco took our details and two days later we were contacted by Install A Veranda to give us a quote for our back yard. We were happy with the… Read more
price and gave them a deposit. After jumping through 2 council hoops, and paying an additional $922.80 in special permit fees, council granted permission in January. We received paperwork to say that insurance for the job had been taken out. I contacted the very helpful staff in the office to get some idea of when the work might go ahead. I was told the middle of March. We waited, and waited. But heard nothing. In mid March, I made contact again, and was told there must be a manufacturing delay, and that they would find out and get back to me. Approximately 3 days later, I received an email from the office staff to say, it was not a delay and they would not be building our Veranda and asked me to send them the banking details, so they could refund my money. I wrote an email expressing my disappointment at their lack of communication and general bad business sense, to not contact us and tell us why they had decided to cancel our contract. That was over a month ago, still no one has bothered to contact me to let me know why! The only reason I have given them 2 stars and not 1 is because whenever they made an appointment to come out to check things, they were always punctual. And for the office/accounts staff, who attended to paperwork efficiently and refunded our money we had paid quickly. For 6 months we put our lives on hold, to be available for this company. I would not recommend them.

Original consultant designed exactly what we wanted which was a fly over verandah with no visible external brackets We were quoted by I A V and paid the installment to proceed to building permit stage. We were notified permit was issued and paid the next installment. After that, the plans arrived and were totally different to what we arranged… Read more
with the consultant. Told them so and IAV said we could not cancel due to being over cool off period. That was not the issue, it was the whole design had been altered. They then said we keep your money as we have spent that on engineering and materials, later learned that was a lie. After much conjecture we decided to continue with the job rather than lose the money. It was then installed to their cr#p design and not only that, the installer put the 2 main beams in reversed way which then had no support under the wrongly fitted unsupported joint which was designed to be put directly over an upright post. (ps No dimensions were provided on the installers plans but common sense told me they were in the wrong way around which he then admitted) We then find out this is just a Stratco Kit, and not anything they said they designed and sourced from different suppliers as promised. Had that been revealed at first I would never have gone with them. Not only that 2 different people contracted to the company, affirmed that my original design was something they had done prior and was easily done, but would have cost the company more money, hence, they changed the design and plan to suit themselves!!! The only solid part are the posts and the rest is all as good as flimsy foil barbeque trays and not worth the time of day. My advice is to avoid Stratco and Install A Veranda as all costs and find a reputable builder to build a solid and proper verandah on your home I-A-V have proven to me that they are liars and thieves
The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Phone calls, emails, ignored. Delays in keeping assigned installation appointments, very frustrating dealing with this Company. Leaking around the base which has been constantly ignored. I do not recommend this Company.

Terrible experience yet still ongoing – Very unhappy with the project. It took 11 months from signing the contract to project completion. 5 months from work commencement to finish vs. 4 weeks as stated on the contract, yet there are no penalty terms against Install A Veranda. We requested a veranda and a deck. Veranda was built with speed and quality, but the deck was a nightmare. … Read more
Initially they did the subfloor framing in a wrong way because they didn't follow the contract but followed a poor wrong hand drawing. Then we were facing countless of rescheduling, no-show, cancellation and no-response. They said they would come, then before the day I was told that they couldn't come or they wanted to come another day, or on the day they simply didn't show up at all. I asked them whether they'd come or not - no response. If I was lucky I'd get a message the next day from [Name Removed] saying they couldn't come due to this and that, or never got a response from them at all. Such things happened sooo many times! There was one time though [Name Removed] said he would come on Sunday at 7am and finish everything, and he did come though he showed up at 12pm and left at 2pm. What he did during that 2 hours was just walking around the deck like window shopping, moving a few pieces around and checking his phone. In the end he told us he couldn't finish it and would come back the next week with his boys to finish everything, though no one showed up the next week..
When all building work was finally finished, they suddenly became so active that they could call you 3 times a days asking when the final payment could be made even before the final inspection happened. They care more about money than customers.
I must say the people who actually built the things were very professional, efficient and accountable, and the only star is for them. I figure it's the management inside the company that has serious issues.
UPDATE on 07/11/23: (putting this update back with edits) Got water leak between veranda roof and house eave due to the storm today which is very disappointing. This is only 3 months after building completion. The leak was severe and we had to cover our new wooden kitchen cabinet to protect it.
UPDATE on 15/11/23: [Name Removed] asked me a few days ago to check gutters with an I-know-all-and-you-know-nothing attitude. I had no idea how gutters at the lower end of the roof can cause water leak at the higher end of the roof but I did it and later provided a photo with a clean roof in it.
UPDATE on 30/11/23: Rob came to inspect on 28/11 without a notice, and left 10 minutes later without a word. I didn't get any report until I sent an email to ask them. No surprise - that's how they do comms. Then they sent me photos showing leaves in gutters claiming it's the leaf jam that caused the leak and asking me to clean the leaves. Oh yes, the leaves that have been accumulating for 2 weeks now becomes the culprit. Having no idea why their veranda can't even handle rainwater resulting from gutter jamming (if this were the truth), not to mention the nearest leaking spot is 3 metres away from the gutter, I managed to draw a diagram to illustrate where the leaking spots and leaves in gutters locate and explain from a basic physics / common sense perspective, yet this changed nothing at all. They asked me to clean the gutter, take a photo and test if the leak still exists, just like I made a mistake and they're helping me correct it. Excuse me? Who built the veranda in the first place? Isn't it Install A Veranda's responsibility to test and make sure the veranda is water proof under normal weather?
UPDATE on 04/12/2023: Got a call from [Name Removed] insisting that I should clean the gutters (mud, grass, etc.), test it in the next rain and see if there are still leaks before they can fix anything. Images attached - no leaks around the most jammed area but 3-4 meters away. Why? Which is the real culprit? Jammed gutter or failed veranda sealing? BTW - it was "wise" to blame [Name Removed], who already left the company, for breaking the 4-week project timeline. Nice job!
UPDATE on 3/4/2024: Contacted VBA and found out there's actually a building compliance for verandas. And abviously their work didn't meet the compliance. As a result, they had to send [Name Removed] to come two times to apply fixes. Then it was dry weather in Jan and Feb until the crazy storm. Severe leaking happened but they said the storm was too strong and was not something a veranda could handle. Well, fine. Then on 1/4 another rain came. It was heavy but definitely within the normal range. This time, leak water went into the eave where there's light and electric wire (video attached), and it caused power outage in kitchen and living room. We couldn't cook and things inside the fridge started to melt. I contacted Install A Verenda and asked them to fix it urgently. A day has passed and still got no reply from them.
DO NOT USE INSTALL A VERANDA!! According to their own staff member who measured our veranda, they are unable to build it as quoted and designed because it won't get a plumbing certificate as they didn't plan an additional downpipe specific to the veranda, which is a requirement. Despite this, the management refuse to speak to us, answer any emails… Read more
directly, address our concerns, respond to our request to cancel the order, and we are only permitted to speak to their reception who passed on the message saying "you won't be getting your deposit back for cancelling the order" ... despite the fact they can't build it as designed and quoted. I asked for the name of someone in their management team to contact as this request by email was also ignored, and she refused to provide any names, promising they'd call me, which they didn't. We've now lodged a complaint with Consumer Affairs Victoria, and V-CAT will be our next option. I strongly recommend not using this company due to the worst customer service I have ever received from management in business, and the exceedingly poor management and leadership by refusing to communicate directly with their customers.
The workmen who put my cool deck veranda up were very professional and did a fantastic job. They left my property very clean and tidy and took all the rubbish away. I would highly recommend them as well as the company to anyone.

The first time I used Instal a veranda was about 7 years ago and had an amazing pergola put in. So, I thought I’d go with them again for a new carport. Am I as happy? Not really. While the quality is great, it’s not as eye appealing as I had… Read more
expected/hoped. But that’s me. The down pipe is in the way of my rooftop tent so I need to manoeuvre carefully to get vehicle in. I would suggest to look into booking a service carefully. Make sure they can meet all your needs. Hopefully they can adjust the down pipes on mine.
Follow-up · I am happy with final instalment. After discussing my concerns, they resolved by replacing the downpipe in the correct direction. The car port looks good.

Carport installation – We had our carport done by Paul and Mick. They were very professional and did a great job. It’s a shame the materials were not correct and some things were missing. It wasn’t their fault.
One Happy Customer – Highly recommended, everything was done in a professional manner and exactly as agreed and comunicated. The veranda looks a treat. The installers, Paul & Jay were friendly, dowwn to earth and on time.
She's up! – Our veranda Installer/Builder/Tradie/'One Man Band' Dion was professionally brilliant!!! Didn't stop all day and did a fantastic, neat, thorough job. Good on ya, Mate! Sleep well!!! ⸻ I had a very disappointing experience. Their website claims to offer a free quote, but when the salesperson, Mark, came to take measurements, he asked for a 10% deposit before even checking if a better price was possible. He also pressured me to make a decision on the spot, saying he wouldn’t offer a better price otherwise — which completely… Read more
defeats the purpose of a “free quote.” When I told him I needed time to think, as the quote wasn’t cheap, he turned around and left without saying a word — not even a simple thank you for the coffee.
Just awful – Just a terrible company to deal with. Even if you have no other options, don’t use them. You will not hear from them unless they want money. Zero proactive communication. You need to follow up with them constantly to get anywhere. Don’t expect the build to start just because you have a start date. They won’t tell you if it’s cancelled, and then… Read more
someone will show up to build it when you don’t expect them. They get one star only because the verandah was built. Stay as far away from this company as possible.
Ultimately content! – The staff at Install A Veranda were very professional and helpful to the best of their ability! However the nightmare of dealing with the Hume city council made me wish I didn't start the process.

First class workmanship from Paul & Shaun, they worked through the heat with no complaint, just got into it. Highly recommended for there expertise and knowledge. The Veranda came up a treat. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks guys, job well done. Regards Anthony & Katrina.
Replaced the current Pagola: Finally it's up. Took almost 3 months from the initial quote. There were some missing parts and extra material too. Must commend the professional job done by the two installers, Paul and Mike. Great knowledge, experience, punctual and humble people. Strongly recommend Install A Varenda but ensure you clarify all your requirements especially with the design, look etc before signing the documents. Show details
Veranda – Thank you for a job well done, from quote and advise from Anna and completion of the veranda by Paul and Jake was seamless. Also communication for appointments and updates with permits with Bek was perfect. Very happy to recommend to family and friends . Cheers to this great team. Good technicians but terrible salesman and cheats – Terrible only because of their sales. They force people to buy the same day and take the decision. Veranda – I absolutely would not recommend - the amount of issues and leaks this veranda has and when you ask the licence Builder/Plumber to come back he is rude, unfair and unreasonable. Also they will do their “scare tactics” with their lawyers if their verandas cause building defects. You then will need to get in contact with the legal board and… Read more
commissioners to see if the lawyer is writing letters correctly. This company makes a lot in labour and slaps the materials together in 1-2 days. Get a quote and do the job with Melbourne best verandas I regret not going with them as install a veranda said they are “better” then MBV - incorrect. Don’t waste $36,000 at install a veranda because you will end up spending more when it has issues. Note** Builders warranty issues will only cover you if the builder has died becomes insolvent, or disappeared. If builder/ plumber is being difficult it’s VCAT applications between the people on the contract and or the person who owns the property. The veranda has also made the house really dark more skylights were required. They did not carry out the work in a proper and workmanlike manner, in accordance with the plans and specifications set out in the contract!!!!! They didn’t ensure all materials supplied are good and suitable for the purpose. They changed the changed the contract and didn’t install down pipes until around 2 years later and this was not specified on the contract. The veranda is not suitable for occupation when completed as it’s created a dark area and restricted natural light. The Dow pipes not installed caused poor site drainage and drop in concrete.
Install a leaky verandah – First decent rain since we had the verandah installed and it's leaking from absolutely everywhere. Note also the sawn off down pipe that was left behind from the job. One of several things that we've been left to clean up. Genuinely terrible job
Not so good – We had our awning built in March and are still waiting for receipt of payment and building certificate. We also have a couple of leaks which the installer [Name Removed] was aware of. We had [Name Removed] some screening and roller shutters for us on the side, And he never finished the job but was happy to take our money, promises given over and… Read more
over again but all lies. Although this side job was not officially done by install a verandah he is one of their contractors. To think they hire a person who treats their customers like this is disgusting. They would not even help us at all. So no I would not recommend them There is no integrity from them at all
A stressful, erroneous and drawn out process – Don't use! - Too many cooks in the kitchen. A salesman who passed on incorrect design information. Installers didn't turn up on the scheduled day. Admin who stopped responding. Thankfully part of the issue was flagged by the builder before being erected. The Director contacted me to resolve the issues and got it rectified, so there is some credit… Read more

Borderline harassment.. I will pay, relax.
Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy – Terrible job. Absolutely horrible final product. Leaks, rivets not lined up, can see daylight through it. Gutter leaks as rivets not lined up either. Shoddy workmanship from the very beginning. Would never recommend

Interesting method of quoting – Received a quote for a veranda on Saturday.. red flags galore when the salesman starts by saying "This is what the price should be..$47,000"". Then proceeded to tell me that permits and surveyor was free.. doubled back when I questioned him and admitted it was built into the price.. then said I could get $3500 by putting up an advertising sign and… Read more
then they were doubling the discount at the moment.. hmm. They proceeded to tell me if I was prepared to sign up on the day , he would call Stratco and work out a better price.. do people still fall for this tactic of bumping up a price by thousands and then offering false discounts??? When I suggested to him we wouldn't be committing on the day, he couldn't get out fast enough... Maybe provide a reasonable price to start with and lose the "discounts"
Don't waste your hard earned money with this company – I can't believe this company can operate in such a un-orangised fashion. Happy Customers – Very happy with our Pergola. Stratco products used is of great quality. The installers know exactly what they’re doing. Got straight to work, finished ahead of schedule and cleaned up afterwards.
Good job – My veranda was installed on 18 Nov, 2020. It has been taken a long time for the job to be done due to the Covid. Now it has turned out a fantastic veranda, high quality and the man was so attention at the details. So happy with the service. I highly recommend Install A Veranda.
Finally-A Veranda – I recently had Install a Veranda provide me with a Stratco outdoor veranda. completed the job with no issues. I am happy with the completed project and look forward to spending time outdoors under the veranda. It is a shame that it took so long to complete.
Still having problems- 12 months on! – Hard to believe that we are still paying our plumber to fix the shoddy workmanship of this business. The work was so poor causing the veranda to leak and our plumber had to put rivets in and silicone to stop us getting wet. Run for the hill, people, away from this company!!
Rude sales during quote – We had a quote which says no obligation quote. A sales representative went to our house and discussed what we want. He told us in a rude manner that he can’t believe that we’re still not getting it after that further discount. That we wasted his time and so many things he said in a rude manner.
