We had Bailey and Henry come and check out hot water system. We were given three options for repair or replacement. We opted for replacement. We booked Irwin’s Plumbing for a pre‑arranged weekday appointment to investigate a leak in our home. When the plumber arrived, we were told the situation was an “emergency” requiring extensive and urgent works. The representative said we needed to sign the contract and get started immediately due to the emergency. We were quoted over $7,000, yet… Read more
have credit card charges totalling $8,822. The emergency crew that arrived was ONE junior plumber. We requested to pay by bank transfer but were told due to 'time of day' it needed to be credit card.
Unfortunately, the leak was not fixed, and additional damage was left to our kitchen cabinetry and tile seals. We have a significant hole in our kitchen cabinet, broken shelves, and damage to our kitchen tiles as a result of these works.
The next day, the leak continued and worsened. We contacted the company in writing to request a detailed breakdown of the charges and to raise concerns about the unresolved leak. We wanted to understand how we have paid what appears to be a junior plumber over $1k an hour to cause destruction in our kitchen, and not fix the leak. To date, no itemised breakdown has been provided. We subsequently requested a full refund due to the major failure of the service. To date, we have not received a refund.
Following our complaint, we experienced an unannounced visit at 6:50am, despite having requested written communication only. This was very concerning first thing in the morning. We have photo and video evidence of the ongoing leak, the damage left behind, and the early‑morning attendance.
For comparison, a licensed independent plumber attended, identified the cause, and repaired the issue in under an hour for $210. His invoice clearly outlines the work performed and details his concerns with the pricing and work completed by Irwin's.
This review reflects our personal experience, supported by documentation, and is shared to assist other consumers in making informed decisions. Had I wanted to demo my kitchen, I would have done it myself for free myself. Photos are of the mess they left under the sink baseboard, the damage to some of the tiles, and my cabinet that now has a large hole in it with the shelving broken and removed.

Call out fee after hours also expensive. They got the job done but follow up is needed but will get some quotes on that.
Edit: Definitely get quotes to fix reported problems and follow up. Irwins got a fixed pricing it seems to fix problems that need follow up which might be overly expensive..
Follow-up · I did not go ahead using Irwins due to their fixed pricing. I got it done for a quarter of the price with another plumber hence my suggestion of getting quotes first before letting them do the job. The other plumber did a great job. I always get three quotes first.

Please consider getting additional quotes, other than Irwin's Plumbing. Irwin's Plumbing quote was $1,400.00, which I declined and was charged a quote/call out fee of $98.00. The job was completed by another plumber for $426.80. Exactly same requirements, non urgent and simple task - change two basin mixers like for like and unblock kitchen grease trap.

realistic option — so you’re effectively left paying the call-out fee anyway.
We were quoted around $4,000 for a broken solenoid. What made it even worse was that the full cost wasn’t clearly disclosed upfront before we were pushed to sign. Then came the aggressive sales tactics — a salesperson on the phone trying to lock us in and suddenly bartering the price down when we questioned it.
If the original price is reasonable and justified, why does it suddenly become negotiable when the customer refuses?
The entire experience left a terrible taste in our mouths. I genuinely worry about elderly or vulnerable people being put through this kind of high-pressure sales process and feeling they have no choice but to agree.
Please do yourself a favour, don’t event bother with this company.

the sewage system around 5m from the sewer vent. I was informed by the workman in attendance that I would need a further quote from their compliance manager.
The quote from the compliance manager was $17,000. I declined and said I would seek further quotes - he then came down to $12,000 and attempted to actively dissuade me from getting other advice. He was quite aggressive in his approach. Despite the very hard sell, I stressed that I would not be getting them to do further work.
The attending workman left without restoring the access hole in the sewer vent, and I was charged (and paid) $1,200
I called another plumber - the problem was some tree roots approx 15m from the sewer vent and they were cleared fairly quickly at a cost of $400.

Called Irwin’s plumbing at 0900 with bubbling in our sinks and slow draining toilets, Henry called and was on the way within the hour. Great service and very clear explanation of the potential problem and he was spot on. Cleaned the drains with high pressure showed us footage on the camera. Problem sorted.
