wasn't specifically mentioned - so they didn't do it. Safety cert guy said that part is just part of the arm and should have been done as part of it. I'm not an expert at cars or safety certificates. I get this specific part wasn't specified on the report, but I feel Jax should have picked this up as the "experts" given they advertise they do vehicle safety inspections and knew this work was for a safety inspection, and should have taken some responsibility here and at least asked me about it, given the part itself only costs around ~$30 and they had to remove it to finish the work, so it was 100% seen. Their argument was that it wasn't specified on the report I gave them, but the part that really got to me was they made sure to call me in the morning to do their due diligence and tell me my tires are approaching roadworthy and I should replace them for "safety" (plot twist, the tires were fine and passed safety). I guess unless there is a chance to up sell, then who cares. In the end between the experts I paid to get this all done, the safety cert guy and Jax just both blamed each other and I was left holding the bag. Cost me ~$800 to get the arm changed, which was fine. They said it would almost be the same in labour cost again just to get to that rubber boot to replace it given the boots are press fit etc. Then had the gaul to tell me it would have been better done at the same time given all the necessary parts were already off... Other experiences I've had at this location in the past have been ok. This just left a terrible taste in my mouth and I lost all trust in them as someone who isn't car savvy. I get unfortunate things happen, but zero responsibility was taken and the customer was made to feel like it was their fault.

went back to the store and explained the issue, expecting them to at least recheck their work. Instead, they just pointed to an alignment printout and said everything was “100% correct,” blaming the camber without offering any real explanation.
I asked for a second check, but they refused unless I paid an extra $150 for a new inspection — even though I had just done a full inspection at another mechanic 5 days earlier, and the car was driving fine before this service.
They introduced a problem and now expect me to pay more just to investigate it. Very unprofessional and disappointing. I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this place to others.

transmission leak could be found. They washed the engine and underside of the car and told me to return if it leaked again.
After another drive, the transmission oil leaked again. When I returned for the second time, I was initially told they were too busy and didn’t have a mechanic available. After speaking with the workshop manager, they finally put the car on the hoist and confirmed there was a transmission oil leak.
The manager repeatedly told me that “anything can happen to a car” and that “it could be dead the next day,” even though the leak only started after the work they performed. They eventually repaired the car, but when I collected it, I wasn’t given a proper explanation or any paperwork for the repair. Kyle simply called to say the car was ready, and when I asked what had been fixed, he said he had just been told to call me. The manager later told me they had drained the transmission oil, resealed everything and refilled it, but refused to provide anything in writing because I wasn’t charged.He was rude and very unprofessional.
The lack of communication, poor customer service and refusal to provide documentation for the repair have left me with very little confidence. I hope the leak has been fixed, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend this workshop.

I called once I ordered and again spoke to [Name Removed] and said the wheels are ordered and could I book for the following Saturday. He asked again what sort of car I had (no problem, no one can be expected to remember every single customer) and I said I30N. He again said, Oh, an i30 and I had to correct him again and say i30N (I'm not making this up, their calls are recorded). When I got notification that the wheels were onboard for delivery I phoned to let them know. [Name Removed] again asked what sort of car I had (repeat above) but this time it seemed to be sinking in and he asked what size tire I had. 245/35 19" and [Name Removed] replied oh rubber bands? I arrived at opening time Saturday as requested and being I was 10 minutes early, another staff member said it would take about an hour so I went off to grab a coffee. I missed at call around 8:15 and called back and [Name Removed] said, you didn't tell me the wheels were like this. I'm going to have to take extra care and it will take longer. Well I did tell him the car, several times and even the rubber size. As to the extra care, don't you take extra care with all customers? I got the impression he didn't want to do the job as he then said the price will now be double, possibly hoping I would say don't worry about it. I said go ahead and he said it would be another hour. It was not ready until 11am. [Name Removed] even tried to gaslight me by telling me the correct wheels were 18" and he seemed entirely unconvinced when I told him I owned the car since new and they were 19". Edit: just received an email from the supplier that the wheel nuts were not included and note, i had confirmed with them twice they were included. The first time I took it over 60km per hour, I had a bad shudder on the wheel at 80-90k which then returned at 110K. I phone them to advise and the woman who answered begrudging said, urgh, I suppose we'll have to get you for another balancing and that I would be called. I received no call. I couldn't leave my car they was it was, so I managed to get into another tire shop who when I called, knew what an i30N was. When I got the report back, they told me it was one of the worst jobs they had seen. Only one wheel was balanced and all 4 wheels were not aligned. I suppose if you have an unregistered paddy basher, take it to Jax Coffs Harbour, but if you have a decent car, or want the job done right, do not go there. Unprofessional, lack of knowledge, dodgy workmanship.

They will state the staff member who allegedly did the work is apparently on leave and to wait for when they return and then they will give you the information. Needless to say, that day never arrives.
They will refuse a refund and tell you they have spent enough time informing you of absolutely nothing.
As soon as you mention having proof and taking it further they will cave, offer a refund and state it does not mean they are taking any liability.
A VERY long story short, I was having major safety issues with my car and Mark promised to have a good look before doing any work in vain, after chatting about ALL the concerns/issues.
At the end, Mark, told me with hand gestures, my tyre was apparently like \ and was now like | and it “SHOULD” be ok… When confusingly repeating“it SHOULD be ok”?
He then told me that my type of vehicle was a “square/box”classed type, and when you drive it in the left lane it will veer to the left, and apparently if you get into the right lane which he recommended NOT doing, as it would apparently veer to the right… Turns out I paid for a Joke, nothing else.
The car was given back to me in an undisclosed, unsafe condition. They couldn’t even reset the steering wheel properly after whatever they did. They do not know what they are doing here at all.
Follow-up · Head office ended up caving and offered a refund. Jax Could not and would not tell me the condition of my vehicle. Car ended up with a bent sub frame and written off.

Today I faced a horrible experience with the Thornleigh Jax Auto. I have been a customer there for the last 6 years. I got upsold sometimes which I complied with. But when I needed them the most, they weren't there. For a small issue in the front lower control (bushes broken a bit) they failed the pink slip. I will be replacing the arms anyway… Read more

Also - they sounded like the wheel alignment was free as I bought the tyres from them (for $1600, which I was planning to pay for $1000-$1200) - upsell is fine - but only when I can - not when I can't - not when I am looking for work - I need the car to drive the kids and get the home running - and they trying to make use of that in a wrong time is frustrating. For me, a breach of trust. I didn't pay a single dime.
I used to be a big speaker for the Jax Tyres, starting from Castlehill and then for the last 6 years with Thornleigh. Now a disappointment. Save yourselves. Go elsewhere.

The very next day I noticed a light humming noise when I put my foot on the brake pedal. I thought that there may have been a “running in” period for the new pads so initially I ignored it. The issue gradually got worse, so I took the car to Sutherland Mazda for them to check it over. This is what their Invoice said “FOUND REAR BRAKE PISTON OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND REAR PADS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. RE ALIGNED BRAKE CALIPER PISTON, MOVED BRAKE PADS INTO CORRECT POSITION.”
I approached [Name Removed] today about the issue and asked to be reimbursed for the additional cost of $201.30. He said I should have brought the car back to them and they would have fixed it at no cost to me. I told him I had no confidence in their capacity to do the repairs correctly. When I asked him how he explained to defective job, he said “I don’t know if what’s on the invoice is correct”.
I told him that unfortunately I would have to give them a bad Google review at which time another person in the office said “we don’t take any notice of Google reviews”. At the time of writing this review they have 487 reviews and I couldn’t find one to which they had not replied. THAT SAYS IT ALL.

The prices vary needless to say but Jax Butler want to charge me $50 for a minor job the others charge $30. Work out for yourself which dealer I will NOT be dealing with.
