Very disappointed in an Australian product! – I bought the fridge in January 2013 and expected to have it in working order for a long time being an Australian made product. On reading the reviews here from others, my fridge seems to have lasted a lot longer than theirs being 7 & 1/2 years old before it died. It is still disappointing though as any of my previous fridges (various brands) have… Read more
lasted much much longer. The freezer section stopped working suddenly and was not noticed till it was too late the save the food inside it and now the fridge section is also dying! It may not be worth repairing so I will be forking out a lot more money to get something decent. Not that impressed and will not be buying another Kelvinator.
This Kelvinator fridge lasted less than 4 years – Bought this fridge nearly 4 years ago from Good Guys. It has been fine until last Sunday evening, when it started making weird noises and stopped working overnight, so a lot of our food was well on it’s way to defrosting. We paid $139 for a service person to diagnose the compressor has gone. It will be another $236 to have a new one installed… Read more
(the compressor itself is supplied under the standard warranty.)
Looking at other reviews for this fridge, it seems there are quite a few that have died around the 3 or 4 year mark and owners have decided it was not worth paying the high repair costs. (Our fridge has not been moved since we bought it.) We are trying to decide whether it’s worth investing the $236 to get the new compressor installed or whether to buy a new fridge, from a brand that makes fridges to last a lot longer.
I contacted Kelvinator for guidance about how long we should expect a fridge to last (before we spent the $139 call out fee), but they said it is not possible to know this. They apparently don’t do any monitoring of how long their fridges last, which is a worry in itself.
Definitely don’t recommend buying a Kelvinator or Electrolux. Any fridge should last much longer than 4 years.
Decent, while it worked – Purchased new at the end of December 2013 from the good guys, this fridge kept things cool pretty well even on 30+ Celsius days, and the freezer was enough for two with some frozen vege, tub of ice cream and some misc. frozen stuff. Shelving was good, being able to move it according to what was being stored, and the door shelving held milk and… Read more
soft drink bottles fine. Everything was easy to remove to clean and was simple to take out and put back in.
I was generally happy with the fridge except for the lifespan, as it died at the end of February 2018, so only lasted a little over 4 years. With repairs being quoted at 3/4 the cost of the fridge, and it being out of warranty. I will not be recommending a Kelvinator to my friends.
Under five years, needed repairs – Both door dairy compartment lids broke within first year as they kept falling out, didn't bother replacing as not willing to waste money. Just had repairs done as needed a new defrost timer which stopped whole fridge from working, cost $200 which was annoying, expected fridge to last longer without needing to be repaired. Over all the fridge has… Read more
functioned well but I think it is a sign of the times that nothing is of good quality any more even when you have tried to support local manufacturers.
Hasn't lasted 3 years – Started making a lot of noise from the freezer- and not freezing food properly. Noise crashed to a halt- then the fridge stopped keeping food cold! It seems to come good - then stop for a few hours at a time and come good. Gets very hot on the back panel. I can feel it's about to completely stop!! Show details
Still working after 3 years and several relocations – I kept the receipt and had to look at it to verify that I bought it almost 3 years ago at HN. The reviews aren't great here but my housemates and I have had no complaints about this fridge over the years so I thought I should say something. The fridge has also survived several moves and lots of usage as I'm a renter and I share with randoms. I… Read more
bought it for a decent price at the time so I feel like the fridge is great value for money. The bad reviews here make me nervous though. Will it continue to work after its 3rd birthday (buy day actually) next week? Time will tell. Based on my experience so far, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Kelvinator after checking reviews of course.
It is a lemon. Don't buy this fridge – I bought this fridge Oct 2015 and it has been playing up since. The freezer is always not cold enough to freeze anything. The other day I had the technician came to check and told us everything is okay. We have been asked to turn up the freezer control to 3/4 and the fridge control to half. It works for the freezer but my vegetables and fruits on the fridge also get frozen. I have been using Kelvinator fridge all my life but not anymore.

Very good fridge – For the price 2 door Kelvinator 420 litre it was great through Appliances On-line. Roomy compared to my previous 387 litre Whirpool. The new fridge can fit so much more including top freezer. Maintains good temperature in all compartments. It is quiet and easy to clean. Negative issues are bottom vegetable crisper it's a bit difficult to slide… Read more
out. Where the temperature controls are located on the top part of fridge takes a lot of room so cannot place 2 litre bottles etc. Otherwise it is a great fridge.
Stopped working with no warning. would not recommend – Bought this fridge four years ago seemed to be fine until it all of a sudden stopped working. There was no warning (ie. funny noises, whirring) which meant that the first we knew of it not working was when everything in the freezer was defrosting. This lead to the loss of a substantial amount of food. Disappointing that even though the fridge… Read more
should still be covered under warranty, we have been told that it will cost us upwards of $140 to have an assessment to decided what the fault is.
Would not recommend nor purchase another Kelvinator/Electrolux product. Four years is far to short a life for an essential item costing over $800.

Very poorly made dairy lid cover - very disappointed – I purchased this fridge 2 years and I am continually frustrated by the dairy lid covers falling off when the fridge door is opened. They appear to be too narrow for the compartment. Poor design. The plastic out of which they are manufactured is very cheap and they break when falling off the dairy compartment onto the floor. I have had to replace… Read more
these a number of times . These spare parts are very expensive to replace. I purchased this from Harvey Norman who were unable to supply or order the spare parts and I had to source them myself.
I am not impressed with this cheaply made Kelvinator KTM4200WB-R and will definitely not purchase another one. My previous fridge lasted 30 years - but I will be lucky if this lasts 5 years.

Issues with the freezer already and is just out of warranty by a month – My wife and I bought a Kelvinator KTM4200WBR refrigerator from Harvey Norman just over two years ago (11 May 2013). Over the past two weeks, the freezer has been playing up - not freezing and then over freezing and also making some very weird noises. While the fridge itself appears to be ok, the freezer is not consistently freezing and we are… Read more
about to move all our frozen items in to the old garage fridge. Of course we would have a freezer fault just one month after the warranty expires (2 year warranty - seems short, but I think I now know why it is so short). We didn't think we would have problems with an appliance that you usually get at least 10 to 20 years of consistent service out of. We bought a Kelvinator because it is an Australian brand, so we are pretty disappointed that in such a short time we are having problems with the refrigerator. It does make us reassess the quality of Kelvinator products. Anyway very disappointing.

So far I cannot complain – I purchased this fridge as an emergency (my bottom freezer fridge died!), so wasn't up for tripping around SYDNEY finding the perfect product. The fridges I liked (freezer bottom) were unsuitable because of size restrictions, or I disliked the interior, so I had to go back to a fridge with smaller freezer on top. I am getting use to the reverse,… Read more · 1
only banged my head a few times when opening the fridge.... have no complaints, except to say they don't seem to give you egg holders...
I Like the glass shelves, like the shelves in the freezer...
As my old fridge was 22yo, I doubt this one will last that distance, especially since it only have. 2year warranty...
Noises made don't worry me, you get use to them after a week ....
Poorly designed – I purchased this fridge a week ago and have been very disappointed. It is noisy with considerable fan vibration noise. The shelves on the door are poorly designed, such that you cannot fit a standard soft drink bottle (or any bottle of that sixe) standing upright on both the bottom and middle shelves; however if the designers had raised the mounts… Read more
for the middle shelf by ten millimetres, that would be possible. The hinged lid of one of the door compartments frequently falls off. Overall, I feel cheated as this was a considerable outlay for me and this fridge seems cheaply and poorly put together.
