Kenwood Prospero MX260006

Perfect – The first thing I used the mixer for was dough, and the guard at the top of the dough hook is fantastic my last mixer always used to get mixture up there and it was hard to clean. I`ve found this mixer is basic, easy to use but performs every function I could possibly need, for me it is great value for money. Show details
Worst choice I ever made – Motor quit working after I used it 4 times. Sent it in for reparation, actually worked again when I got it back. Next problem was the bowl material, little bits of plastic will shatter and end Up in the food, I did expect this but not after 3 months of use. The dough beater is terrible too and the whole thing keeps wobbling. On the plus side: the bowl in stainless steel. Show details
Disappointing to say the least – I bought the Prospero about 4 years ago first the blender would not work after a couple of uses. The mess when you bake is not worth the trouble, ingredients spill out all over the place due to the speed adjustment not working. The splashguard has cracked in the dish washer. What a waste of money $389.00 used about ten times.
What a Mess! – Received this as a Christmas gift. Will be taking it back to exchange it. When using the dough hooks even on the slowest speed the top of the machine shakes violently. Tried the paddle attachment with some butter and sugar.... same issue. Not to mention the fact that it flicks ingredients (wet or dry) all over my kitchen, all over the guard and … Read more
the top of the machine where the attachments are inserted. I also have an issue with water being trapped between the metal bowl and the plastic shroud underneath it that clips into the machine base. Worst machine I have ever used.
Better tan what I expected – Bought the Prospero for $160 at The Good Guys. I was very sceptical as have always had Sunbeam, however will never buy Sunbeam again. Had 2 large Cafe mixes which lasted about 12 months each. So pleased with the Kenwood. It is light, not as nosiy as the Sunbeam, does not walk across the bench and for the price is good. (can buy 3 of these for… Read more
what I paid for the Sunbeam). I like the plastic cover as the mix does'nt fly all over the kitchen. Have made pavlovas and cakes. Will be testing the dough hook out in the next few weeks. I would recommend this for a basic mixer.
Worst thing I ever bought! – I bought this yesterday. It broke in 2 places already! The Blender and the Juicer won't work because the gearing inside the poorly made plastic machine broke. The juicer won't work because the part that spins inside seized up after one use. Seriously, we made a huge mistake purchasing this! I want my Kitchen-Aid, any day! Compact, looked good Useless and too many things to break.
chloe us not so great – This is my second Kenwood and it would probably be the worst appliance I have ever used. It can't mix at a slow enough speed and almost all ingredients added [via the plastic cover] still fly out - even in the gap between the metal bowl and the plastic cover. I have to put my hand over the hole where you add the ingredients - but bits still… Read more
manage to escape and make mess everywhere. I have even resorted to taking it outside to mix to avoid such a mess in the kitchen.
My first Kenwood [bought about 25 years ago] was still working when I gave it away - I was thinking I was upgrading!!! The old machine was much better than this in all ways - quieter, more speed control and much, much better mixing action. Although I have only had this appliance for about six months I am planning to replace it, but I will not be risking another Kenwood.
Perhaps the $600+ model would work better. Maybe it looks OK
powerful yet compact! – I was tossing between Prospero or Pattissier but this is more powerful, scrapes the buttom of the bowl very well & larger bowl than pattisier! & has extra attachments which is pretty cool. And its cheaper than Patissier as well. highly recommended. very reasonable price as well! Very happy and well spent! powerful yet compact quite hard to look for attachments
Great mixer for the price! – I love my Kenwood mixer! Having had a hand mixer before this, it's a big improvement! Like another reviewer said, there are times when you have to stop and scrap down the beater and bowl, especially whilst creaming, but this may be a standard thing to do with all mixers, I'm unsure. The splash cover is great and stops mix flinging out. I've… Read more
used the k-beater and whisk attachments and have no problems with them. Am yet to use dough hook so can't comment on it. I don't own any of the other attachment either.
All parts are easy to clean.
The only issue I've had is that only of the cake mixes that I make is too big for this mixer, so I'd buy one with a larger bowl next time. (It's a large cake, standard mixes got in there fine)
I would own happily own another Kenwood mixer. Great value for money, does a great job, easy to clean Sometimes not big enough for what I'm making
Not quite good enough – The basic functions are OK, but I find I need to stop the machine several times when creaming butter and sugar to scrap the mixture from the K beater and the sides and bottom of bowl, as well, if beating in citrus zest, it gets all caught up on the bottom of the beater. The plastic splashguard broke when I accidentally dropped it, so now I have… Read more
to be careful that the mixture does not spray out. Next time will spend more on a quality product. Not expensive, easy to operate. As I said above, not great at mixing and is noisy.
Bad – Noisy, VERY noisy! Considering you can’t get attachments, mincers, food processor, blender etc makes it a bad buy. Also the top section wobbles as it mixes, frankly as a chef of 20 years experience I really wonder were pride in ones product has gone. No room for pride in bank I suppose. Excellent value Try getting attachments. You can’t! I have… Read more
been trying for 12 months now. Retailers tell they aren’t available yet, Kenwood Australia tells you go to any retailer.
The almost-1-year Celebration between Ken and Me, a.k.a My Review of Kenwood Prospero KM266 – Some special features I love about my Kenwood: Safety interlock – This is golden. I once saw an article about how children hurt themselves severely when left playing with a normal blender or food processor without adult supervision. It frightened me to my death. However, NO more unwanted cuts with my friend Kenwood, YAY! This super feature is a… Read more
system of interlocks to protect users’ safety. For instance, the blender will not operate unless the lid and the bottom are correctly locked. It is the same with every component of Ken like processor, juicer, whisk, etc. So carelessness is more tolerable with Kenwood. One minus is that sometimes, it did not turn on due to one mis-interlocking somewhere, and you have to check and relock everything. Well, I can live with that, and my 10 unharmed fingers. :)
Planetary mixing motion – is the huge plus for every Kenwood kitchen machine. My Ken always operates with two separate and combined rotational movements of the tools inside of the bowl.
This dual movement allows the gear to rotate while moving within the container by mixing and amalgamating any type of dough or batter and reducing the mixing time and the formation of lumps.
Variable Speed – It also has 6-speed machining, to which is added the planetary movement of the tools when mixing or kneading, together with practical pulse function, when necessary, to give a power, rapid and intense strokes.
Small size – It is quite small actually, but fit perfectly under the counters in my tiny kitchen. The small capacity of the mixing bowl also fit with my baking habit. I do not bake a lot at once because I usually bake for only Bear and me, and I myself, although enjoy baking a lot, but not prefer eating the results so much.
Quite large variety of attachment

Some features I do not like about Kenwood:
Plastic and light-weighed body – My first impression of mine is that he seems not very robust with his plastic body. Its light-weighed body also a minus because sometimes when I knead my bread dough, Kenwood almost moves around a bit. Some jokes that Kenwood Prospero does know how to dance on the kitchen counter and give advice to watch very closely while it is operating or else, it will end up on the floor.
Loud Noise – It does create quite loud noise when operating. It almost made me if there was anything wrong with him the first times I worked with Ken. But yeah, I get used to it. :)
Plastic attachment – The plastic blender and food processor attachments are definitely not so tempting either, but acceptable. Be very careful when working with plastic component of Kenwood, because they are very scratch-able. My hard lesson is once I used a metal spoon to get something out of my blender and, ahhh, I made a visible scratch on its wall. :( I suggest to use only plastic or rubbery or silicon utensils for these delicate guys.
After all, I totally satisfied with what I get comparing to what I paid. If I have to make the choice all over, I would still go for Ken.
I have worked with Ken for almost 1 year now and would recommend it to any beginners out there, whoever are short of space or just starting out, you’ll need a small and simple kitchen machine that does it all like my Kenwood.

Rose,
Good – I purchased this for about $150 after I fully intended to buy myself a 'quality' mixer. I was going to get either a Kenwood Chef or a Kitchen Aid but seeing that the Kitchen Aid was only 300 watts and cost $650 and the Kenwood a similar price I was obviously attracted to the slightly smaller Kenwood Chef sibling and so far I have been far from… Read more
disappointed. I have owned a Kenwood Chef in the past and sold it due to the noise it produced but this mixer is much quieter. Also it doesn't get as messy due to a couple of clever covers....one on the beater inlet the other over the bowl. The three mixing attachments all work well and although they look thin they are surprisingly tough; I have used the hook to make bread and both the K beater and whisk work well. The mixer has a really good stainless steel bowl which is nicely weighted. The mixer sits firmly on the bench and remains sturdy even when using top speed. Overall I am extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised by this Kenwood mixer, I wasn't expecting it to be brilliant but it is a mighty fine little appliance especially considering the price. I really like the look of the mixer and being flat at the back it sits flush against the wall. I haven't found it to be excessively noisy at all, just the usual whir of the engine, nothing dramatic or ear shattering. The Kenwood has a fairly gutsy motor making light work of bread and thick cakes whilst also having enough finesse to whip up the lightest egg white soufflé. Nothing yet.
Excellent – I purchased this when my old Kenwood Chef's motor burned out. (It was over 30 years old!). I couldn't justify paying $700 for a new one when I only use it a couple of times a month. So far the Prospero has been perfect for my needs. I have not mixed dough with it, but have made several cakes and meringues. It does not appear as sturdy as the… Read more
old Kenwood chef, but for the price you can't really expect it to be! The planetery action is as efficient as the old chef, and it has a slow start function so no matter what speed you turn it up to, it starts gently and then speeds up so your ingredients don't splatter all over the kitchen. The movement of the head while mixing seemed unusual at first but the manual says this is normal, and everything in the bowl still gets mixed properly. Overall, excellent value for the price. Excellent value for the price, I got mine on sale for $160. The planetary action is better than I expected, does not require much scraping down of the sides of the bowl and reaches the bottom of the bowl properly.
