  Epoxy Gloss Enamel

Best paint – I have painted cars, trucks, trailers, bikes and random items with killrust. It takes a while to dry but the results are amazing. Cars I painted 10 years ago still shine. I love that I don't need to undercoat / prime unless it's bear metal. This stuff sticks to everything and anything for years. Show details ·  1

Good paint but takes forever to completely cure – This product has glowing reviews over and above competitors and I can see why. Two issues I have thou: ▪︎ It takes forever to dry, especially if not thinned with Mineral Turps. After 2 weeks I could run my nail on the paint and leave blemish or poke a nail into the painted surface and leave a mark. Thinning the paint per instructions helps this… Read more

but still find the time to cure exceeds the 7 days stated. BTW - I made sure I sprayed on a warm sunny day. Surface Dry - 4-6 hours Recoat - 16 hours Fully Cured - 7 days ▪︎ I was told you don't need to thin it from the shop I bought it from. This seems to have resulted in the paint not curing very hard. By thinning it the paint seems to cure much harder.

I undercoated parts I was spraying with either etching primer or red oxide (cast iron parts) - can't see how this would have effected anything thou.

Follow up to "go-to gloss enamel" review – I previously reviewed this product when there were no deep tint bases available, limiting the available colours. For that I docked it a star, for an otherwise stellar product. That has now been addressed by Wattyl so therefore I can now happily give it the full five star rating. Bunnings sell White Knight which I'm not familiar with, might be… Read more

OK, and Dulux Metalshield which I won't touch. It is too soft for too long, heavy rain 6 hours after application will peen the surface. One of my customers rang after about 4 years regretting not taking my advice and used Dulux instead because it is easy to get. Premature fading was her problem, which is something I have never seen with Killrust.

has lasted 30 years – I painted this on my old datsun about 30 years ago in white - engine bay, interiour, boot area, wheel wells etc. Sold the car the other day and it was still rust free with the paint still looking fresh and shiny. Have also painted rally cars with it and will continue to do so.

Can't fault it – Needed to paint a galvanised steel box (designed to house a lawn mower) before attaching it to a trailer. We first painted the lid using another similar but different brand product. This ran out so we decided to get something different and I seemed to remember my dad always using Killrust. Bought a small can of Grey Epoxy (not cheap!). Painted the… Read more

rest of the outside of the box which used a surprisingly small amount of product - only about 1/6 of a small can, if that. About 1 year later and the lid is rusted while the rest looks like new.

Excellent product, expensive but goes a long way.

Awesome for rust – Best stuff for rusty metal using their multiple cost system. It can also go straight over galvanised metals. My go to product for rusty steel handrails where durability is required. Show details

Fantastic paint – After reading several reviews about a few brands of paint I decided I would try Wattyl Killrust. Unexpectedly, at my local Home Hardware the Wattyl was actually cheaper than the Dulux or White Knight equivalents from Bunnings which had some mixed opinions. I'm glad I went with the Wattyl, as it has been fantastic so far. I'm brushing it on a car… Read more

trailer and it is going on very well, I've been able to lay down a nice thick coat without runs so it doesn't need a second coat. The consistency of the paint out of the tin is great, maybe just a tad too thick to brush straight on but a dash of thinners sorts that out. It would require significant thinning for spraying.

After 24 hours the coating was rock hard, and some impacts I would have expected to leave marks have done nothing at all so it seems quite durable. It will be some time before I see how it stands up to UV but as it is I'm pleased with it, especially given it was also a hair cheaper than some competitor products with which other reviewers have had poor experiences.

killrust epoxy gloss - amazing – used gloss black and white on my tinnie after using etch primer and some masking tape made a twenty year old tinnie look like one straight out the show room. As an amateur this was very suprising to get such an even finish and 4.2metres of boat done with two aerosol cans of each colour, wide gunwales as well.  Show details

Easy to apply but oxidizes quickly – This paint is good on metal and recent welds. However my experience is the paint oxidizes quickly and I need to repaint the surfaces every two years if I want to keep the shiny surface!. It also tends to flake after a couple of years so water blasting is necessy in preparing the work,  Show details
