Its not a bad bread maker, but maybe I just dont have the skill, because mine end up cake-y and not really fresh which defeats the purpose. I also hate the hole the bottom of the loaf due to the necessary whisk. Show reply
Okay , while it lasted. 4 weeks out of warranty the element failed without warning. I also can't recommend it for making bread , in the machine itself and I have been using bread machines for over a decade. The bread was dense and very heavy. It did do a nice job creating bread dough though, which I baked inthe oven. Would I recommend....definitly not. Put your money towards a better quality machine Show details
tried 8 ways - followed instructions for all 8 times basic & bread program (Coles & woollies sell flour or self raising ) (they don't sell bread flour) I've tried both, yeast, salt sugar, oil etc same cr9p result everytime my bread rose more doing it the old fashion hard yakka way. even bought pre mix bread mix - same result would never recommend it disappointed big time Show details

Great little bread maker – Great bread maker. Ive only had it a week and a bit. I've made 5 wholemeal loaves. I paid $79.00. What a bargain! I followed the instructions completely. It would be handy to have weight of flour as well as cups. Instructions well written. Show details · 1
Frustrated and disappointed – I started using my Anko Bread Maker a week or so before Christmas and have not had a single decent loaf !!! Out of the six or seven loaves I have cooked we have been able to eat maybe two loaves .... and then .... only toasted !!! the rest have been trashed !!! The loaves come out like small bricks and have the texture of cakes instead of fresh… Read more
fluffy bread. I have tried different settings to see if that made a difference. NOPE!!! I had a Panasonic machine for about 28 years (+/-), cooking up to 3 loaves a day for the kids, and never threw out ONE loaf!!! I just threw the ingredients in willy nilly .......And the bread was delicious !!! So I am not a novice. This Anko machine is wasting my flour, yeast etc, etc and ...... my time!! I am not sure whether to keep persevering or to take it back .... or chuck it !! Very very frustrating and disappointing.... The photo below was taken this morning and the only way we can eat the bread is by toasting it. And by tonight I will need to freeze it so that it doesn't get thrown out....

Kmart bread maker – If you like chewy rock hard bread then this for you. I've made three attempts to make bread and each time it came out nothing like any of the videos or pictures I've seen. Price is to good to be true I wouldn't waste my money buying this. Better off mixing and baking in the oven Show details

Can't complain for the price – Am I getting old? I must be to be buying a bread maker! We have had this for around a month now and have used it about half a dozen times. Overall, it's easy to use and seems to have more features that I will have need of. The positives seem to be how simple it is. Just pop in some water, bread mix and yeast, select the style of bread, pick a… Read more · 1
loaf size, select how dark you want the crust, and press 'Start'. Seriously, there is no preparation required! Off it goes and then in a few hours you have a nice hot loaf of fresh bread.
We have tried both sourdough and white bread mixes and have not had any failures. I've also played around with adding oils (plain and infused) plus salt and sugar. The possibilities are probably endless.
Clean-up is pretty good and doesn't take any time either. I suspect that the anti-stick coating in the mixing/ baking bowl will deteriorate fairly quickly. I'll try to be gentle with it but let's see.
My only complaints are: 1. The plastic window at the top. This is almost impossible to clean if dough has touched it and become baked-on. I haven't scratched it or broken the lid (yet) but I wonder if it's a matter of time. 2. The area under the bowl. This does become a trap for crumbs etc.. I hope it's not a fire risk as it's a little awkward to clean but I will do my best. 3. The instructions on delayed cooking. These are quite confusing and they don't need to be. The timer automatically adjusts to show how many hours and minutes the loaf will take. You can extend the finish time to be up to 13 hours from when you set it. If you read the instructions on that basis then you won't have a problem. (My first loaf using this feature was ready at 4am instead of 8am!)
Bread on a budget – This inexpensive bread maker is straightforward to use, and makes a good loaf of bread. The non-folding paddle leaves a small hole in the crust. In my experience that is better than a folding paddle that leaves a large hole in the crust. Loaf size is limited to 800 grams, which is big enough for a small family. It has a 13 hour timer that allows… Read more
you to wake up to fresh bread. Its 12 programs even include 'gluten free', although none of the 19 included recipes is for gluten free bread. This bread maker is made to a price. Materials are lightweight rather than robust. The LCD display has no backlighting, and is hard to read in low light. There is no fruit/nut dispenser. The paddle removing tool does not clip securely under the paddle. After a few uses it slipped and scratched the non-stick coating on the paddle. A drop of cooking oil on the paddle spindle reduces the need to use the paddle removing tool. I threw out the hard-to-clean combined tablespoon/teaspoon measure, and use a teaspoon to measure ingredients. 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon.
We're Really Happy With Our Kmart Anko Bread Maker For $69 – See my positive update written 5 years later by scrolling to the bottom. We were impressed with a friend's bread made in his old Sunbeam breadmaker and decided to buy one, so being us, we researched Product Reviews plus any others we could find. We whittled it down to a couple and then came across the Kmart Anko Breadmaker in a Google search. It… Read more · 1
appeared to have similar functions to much more expensive ones. On going to Kmart we found they didn't have the model we wanted - one with a fruit dispenser as it was discontinued - but decided to take this one at a price of only $69. Not having had a bread maker before and not having seen one operated it is difficult to accurately compare but we feel that we are giving this a fair assessment:
Why only 4 stars if we are really happy with it? Cons: Noise. It does make a bit of noise in the main mixing cycles - but there again, we have read reviews where people complain about noise in other brands. Indeed another friend told us she stopped making bread because of the noise of hers (brand not known to us) plus time spent preparing it to go in her bread maker. Vibration. It does vibrate and move about and there is a warning about it (which we hadn't noticed) in the manual. In fact it vibrated off the bench, fell to the floor and broke the hinge which we successfully and neatly repaired. Our fault as we hadn't noticed that warning in the manual! No fruit dispenser. But we knew that when we bought it. PROS: Appearance and size. Unobtrusive on narrow bench between the microwave and slow combustion oven. Fits well there. Programs: 12 programs give us a wide choice but so far we have used only 2 of them: Basic and Sandwich to make white bread, multigrain, rye bread and milk bread. Ease of Use: It's very easy to use with simple controls on the panel to press to set for choice from Menu eg Basic, French, etc; Colour - light, medium, dark - and we've found light suits us best; Loaf - size with choice of 680 or 800. We always choose the 680. The time is set automatically after having pressed those buttons. It takes 2hrs53 minutes for the Basic. It's easy to put in and remove the baking pan from the oven. The paddle sometime stays in, other times comes out when shaking the bread from the pan. It's no problem to remove it from the bread with the hook supplied. Preparation time: after cooking a few loaves I have it off pat and it takes about 10 minutes max to take ingredients from cupboard, measure out (I always use by volume and checked that my measuring spoons and cups are the same as the ones supplied with the kit) and return them to cupboard. The finished bread: we've been quite happy with it and find that the crust seems to improve (gets crisper) if we leave it in the oven for an hour after cooking completed. The only times it has failed is when I have forgotten to put in the right amounts of ingredients! Cleaning. Very easy to clean the pan. I usually soak the pan if the paddle stayed in it as it makes it easier to remove the paddle from the stem. The oven can be easily wiped clean (not that it's dirty), tipped upside down to drop out the odd grain from grain bread or vacuumed. One really needs to experiment more with the quantities of ingredients to compare results of minor changes to them. The manual: Pros: Seems to cover everything. Has a variety of recipes. Cons: It's a bit haphazard in that one needs to go back and forth looking for information - makes it easy to miss something eg warning about required temperature of milk is on page 3 instead of with the recipes pages 11-13. Time delay is a little unclear in the instructions for its use. Overall As it says in the title, we're really happy with the bread we have made, some 40 loaves, and are certainly going to try more of the recipes. For its price we consider it excellent value for money and recommend it, especially for beginner bread makers.
2 1/2 years later. I've made many a loaf with the bread maker. The best loaves are multigrain using Lauke multi grain flour either by itself or with a 1/2 cup more finely refined multigrain flour, or white bakers flour replacing same amount of Lauke. I've also made rye and white breads, but they are never as good as the multigrain. I tend to think that this machine does its best job with multigrain. The machine continues to function well. One needs to take care that crumbs don't fall down into the part at the bottom, or if the bread has risen and stuck to the top window, it is best to clean by opening the lid, cover the bin completely with a tea towel and then clean the glass area so the pieces fall on the tea towel. I recommend this product as it's good value for money.
Nearly 5 years later: We still strongly recommend this comparatively cheap product. The bread maker is still going strong, although the rib on each side of the inside of the pan have lost a little of their coating near the bottom of the rib. A Good tip: Recently, I have found that when baking bread - white or multigrain - it produces an even better loaf by allowing it to mix for about 10 minutes in the first mix and then switch it off. Leave off for about 45minutes or so, switch on. Remember to take the paddle out a few minutes after the end of the second mix. It's better to do this than to risk getting a big hole in the bottom of the loaf.

I must admit that I got this with no expectations, BUT, I was very surprised with the results that I got. I will also admit that I used this bread maker in a commercial capacity. Great little machine – My first loaf in this bread maker was a sourdough recipe of my own. It came out better than I could have hoped - soft and squishy and easy to cut - toasts beautifully! Next loaf was a white sandwich loaf - the crumb is a little dense, but still a nice tasting loaf and perhaps I need some higher protein flour. Very happy with this budget level machine. Does everything I need it to. Show details · 1

Unsatisfactory. Failed in 3 months – Very disappointed with the Kmart bread maker. It only lasted 3 months when the motor died. The build quality is cheap. The paddle eventually got stuck in the pan and it could not be removed for cleaning. I bought it as it was very cheap compared to other units. But you get what you pay for. Show details

Good machine, terrible bread recipes – …the bread machine is fine: it’s a generic machine almost identical to Aldi/Big W/Kambrook machines. They are basic machines, but generally work well. The biggest problem with the Anko/KMart machine are the AWFUL recipes…seriously, the proportions of water, yeast and flour are the biggest issues…too much yeast, not enough water in some recipes and… Read more
measuring an 1/8th of a cup of flour in the measuring cup provided is absurd. Bread machines work well when you have the ingredients weighed in grams ( more consistency and accuracy) so, try converting the cup ingredients into weighed measurements. Another tip is before the machine goes into the the last kneading cycle, take the dough out, gently knead it and shape it and put it back into the machine…it really helps with finished product. Kmart, seriously, provide better recipes!!!!!

Very disappointed – Am i unlucky? I've been considering to purchase this product, and I finally got this today. These [Content Removed] don't know how to use this gem – What is with the bad reviews?! I can't falter this bread maker. I made a loaf of bread using 1 part bread flour, 2 parts plain flour and it made the most beautiful country style bread that I have ever eaten. So yum! wrong. It's easy to clean too and non stick. I'm never buying a load of bread again! Next loaf will be brioche so I'll keep you posted.
Very Disappointed with Kmart Bread Machine – Purchased to prepare dough for pizza and is ok for this purpose although I do have to knead it by hand after it comes out of the machine. I tried to make bread and followed instructions to the letter however the bread always sunk in the middle, left unmixed flour in the bottom of the pan, was very dense and wasn't even suitable for toasting. . tried buying new yeast, changing brand and type of flour, adjusting the amount as well as the temperature of the water. Consequently, I threw out about 8 loaves of bread and gave up. It now sits in my cupboard waiting to go into landfill. I have previously had other brands of bread machine and never had a problem. Lesson learned.. if it is cheap and sounds to good to be true, then it usually is.

Love the Anko Breadmaker – This breadmaker makes beautiful bread but I am having trouble getting the yeast right as it rises too much. I use a multigrain breadmix 600 gr, 360 mls water, 1 1/2 teasp yeast which I have decreased to about 1 1/4. The bread rises to the lid creating a mess to clean up and is not firm on top but the loaf of bread is great. Show details · 1
