Same as OP above. Will this cover melt on the car on hot days. Is this possible?

Can't guarantee it, but I don't think so. Acc. to Kmart the material is polypropylene which has a melt point 160 °C. Requires 100 °C to boil water, and I can't make a cup of tea on a car bonnet, even with a black car and a steel cup.

What is the best way to get the long straps of the large car cover under the car through to the other side to clip into the snap buckle?

I wouldn't bother trying. Just use bungee straps over the top of the car, and attach the hooks to the car rather than the cover. For this purpose I make my own straps out of old punctured road bike tubes. They're soft and easy to tie knots in, and attach hooks to the ends.
