Switched because of good prices and a wider range of speeds to choose from. Switching was an absolute breeze. A masterpiece of Human Centred Design…and yeah, you're (almost) guaranteed to get the speeds you paid for – What is it you desire? Fame, fortune, or perhaps actually getting the internet speed you paid for? Well, Launtel can almost certainly get you the third of these (as long as the NBN technology at your address supports it). (or whatever the cool kids use these days), lots of people work from home now, right? And I'm sure some people reading this review have at some point been frustrated by the 20 Mbps or so upload speed limit of basically all NBN plans. I, too, was in this situation when I found that a spreadsheet – yes, a spreadsheet, although to be fair, it did have more than a million rows – was taking dozens of seconds to save to my organisation's cloud storage. I searched long and hard for the salvation that only an upload speed significantly greater than 20 Mbps could bring, and with a surprising amount of effort, having to resort to asking ChatGPT of all things, I discovered that a few ISPs in Australia offer NBN plans with high upload speeds to customers who have FTTP NBN connections.

I compared all such ISPs that I found, and for my use case, ignoring promotional pricing, Launtel were the cheapest for all high upload speed plans (250/100, 500/200, 1000/400) when I started using their service in November 2024. This is especially the case because Launtel's plans are daily, not monthly, meaning that you can use a more normal speed on most days and upgrade to the faster plans at no additional cost only when you need it. You can even cancel your plan for no additional charge if everyone in your household is going to be away for a few days! Working from home aside, if you have automated cloud backups, you're a content creator, you're running some kind of server from home, or even if you simply like sharing full-resolution videos with your friends and family without them taking an eternity to upload, Launtel's high upload speed plans are for you.

Even if you don't care about fast upload speeds, their overall service reliability is unparalleled, or close to it, so I think that'll make their slower plans worth it to many people even though they're a bit more expensive than other ISPs (who presumably achieved this lower price by not paying for enough bandwidth to provide the advertised speeds as consistently as Launtel do). Launtel release graphs showing their network utilisation by service area, and when I analysed this for the last few weeks for my service area, I found that the utilisation rarely exceeded 80% and never exceeded 95%. This means that, ignoring niche technical issues that wouldn't be Launtel's fault, everyone in my service area would have constantly received the maximum speed that their plan and hardware are capable of. A Launtel customer support officer told me that Launtel actively try to ensure that their network utilisation stays below 100%, ignoring unusual circumstances like a Fortnite update (yes, this was the exact example that I was told). My own experience reflects this; I've done many speed tests at many times of day and week, and I consistently get about 105% of my advertised download speed and about 90% of my advertised upload speed (and there's a technical reason for the latter that Launtel's excellent customer support explained to me).

Speaking of customer support, Launtel have quite possibly the best customer support that I've experienced in any industry. Their support goes far beyond what I would expect of an ISP, ranging from answering technical questions about NBN infrastructure and the Ethernet cables in the walls of my home to humouring my anecdotes about the time I showed off to some friends by upgrading to the 1000/400 plan for a day and the specifics of how I found Launtel.
