LG Google Nexus 5

I can also confirms that it will fail after warranty expires – This phone was great when it worked but it all downhill after that. I liked the gogole lines of phones but the representation was ruined with the LG phones. There is a manufacturing defect on the phone's motherboard that will make the phone useless and unrepairable withing 1-2 years. Warrently will also not cover the costs despite being a known problem Show details
Great phone – Great phone. It has been used for over 4 years and still works good as new. Has big display and a great camera. Only bad thing is it has some issues connecting by bluetooth to some apps. It also has google assistant so you can simply say "ok google" and without typing, you can say whatever you want your phone to do. Show details
never ever buy this and worst customer service – My husband bought me first nexus-5 in 2014 and we had a year warrenty too. As the first year passed the microphone went very bad. thereafter within a month do not know what happen to phone did not start at all. All the time when fully charged and tried to start it gave a green cartoon figure and message and it went in boot mode. My husband… Read more
loves nexus so he bought another one in 2016 end. After 1.5 year exactly same problem. My son drop the phone around after a year so the screen broke but the phone still worked will after this about 6 months. Then one day I received a warning message that your phone is slowing down and there may be a virus. I turned off my phone at the time asked my husband to look as he is in IT. He restarted the phone and everything was fine but next say exactly same problem happen with this phone too. A green carton figure with boot message. We send it to google since it was in warranty. They said the screen so broken so the warranty ended. Even we told screen broke about 6 months ago. When we asked to return our phone they say 50$ for diagnosis. I don't understand if they say warranty expired what did and why did they diagnose. I am very big fan of google but looking on the service they are providing in this department and phone quality I will never suggest anyone to buy this phone. WORST android phone I came across

The best phone I ever had – (Edit: I'm so disappointed to have to change my star rating from 5/5 for this phone. It WAS the best phone I ever had but there was an inherit issue with the motherboard which i was unaware of when i purchased it... now I have a new phone because my LG Google Nexus just turned off one day and no one can fix it - thwre are only temporary fixes. sad. What's the point I making phones if they are not built to last? Leave it in the workshop for longer so you can provide your customers with quality product instead of giving false hope and letting us wasting hundreds on phones and repairs. People like me can't afford to get new phones just like that!!)
absolutely love my phone! I've had it for 1 1/2 years and it's still going strong. It never slows down, has great interface, graphics, games, wifi and 4G signal, and I do not think the phone case itself feels cheap despite what the CNET reviewer said. LOVE the back fingerprint scanner and camera. Great audio quality too.
The only thing I'm disappointed about is that it is virtually impossible to get parts here in Australia for repair which means i spent a tonne of money on a phone which finally fits all my expectations but soon enough when they cease making parts for it I'll need to buy another one again (because we live in a society that needs new new new and not simply one with great quality and will last). I can't get over how dumb that is. I don't want another phone.
The charger the phone came with was absolute rubbish and stopped charging after a year without any obvious reason... and it came with an international to Australian connector, ontop of the fact that the usb cable itself was C USB at both ends and therefore not transferable for easy use into a regular USB port wall charger.
This phone is so good, why don't more people know about it ? – Just about everyone has a mobile these days, but the choices are baffling! So many makes models, operating systems etc. Where to begin ? Well, firstly it depends on what you want to do with it, apart from make calls, then what budget you have in mind ? I had had a couple of "Smart" phones before deciding that I wanted a really good one + as I… Read more
am a photographer, it needs to have a decent camera. I don't just mean number of pixels, I mean colour balance, definition and also HD video. After a lot of research, I narrowed it down to the I Phone 5 or the Nexus 5.
Now if you compare the specs the Nexus is way better, but in use, not a lot in it.
Except I don't like to have to do everything through the Apple store, Apple music, Apple everything!
I prefer the flexibility of the Nexus 5, and then when you look at the price, well, the Nexus 5 is HALF the price.
So I bought the Nexus, now over a year ago, and you know what, after several software updates, and a lot of use, I am still delighted with it !
But, it's strange, I never see anyone else who has one ! So, if you are in the market for a top end mobile, go to a store and check one out. You will immediately be impressed by the screen quality, and the speed of operation, and if you think it expensive then look at the specs, it's like buying a laptop computer only 5 years back! Picture is a panoramic shot very easy to do with this phone, and even in low light, pretty decent!
Great phone – I am a former iPhone user. I do not regret moving away from apple and taking on an Android phone. I was hesitant but am not disappointed. Android is quite easy to use as I found out. The phone is great. Incredibly fast and responsive. Its integrated with all my Google accounts which made the transition even easier. Unlike the apple products, Nexus… Read more
is very reasonably priced while still performing all the functions that an apple phone can do (and much more if you're into the tech stuff, which I am not, as there are no strict apple restrictions which you can only get around by jail-breaking the phone). I ordered it on a Monday from the GooglePlay store, by Thursday I was already unpacking the shiny new phone. Another plus for this phone for me is that I find the battery lasts longer than it does on an iPhone, for someone who isn't too good at charging phones, laptops etc., this is definitely a bonus. The screen is larger than the iPhone, so it is easier to read on as well as browsing the net. The phone itself also fits and feels nice in the palm of the hand, while not crucial in a phone, it's still a nice bonus. Cheap and reliable.

Pretty good Android phone, if the camera was better it would a great phone – good interface, no telco bloatware, fairly fast, no real software/freezing issues (Only issues has been with Netgear Arlo home security app but I think the app is buggy not the phone). I thought the finger print scanner would be a gimmick but its now my preferred method for unlocking The one bad thing about this phone is the camera, it has… Read more
a flash but its totally useless, often the exposure is off resulting in hard to see or almost black images. photos during the day are decent though. From memory the default camera app doesn't let you adjust resolution but 3rd party app fixes that
Pure google! – This was one of my favourite phones. It cost $400 and delivered in a flagship quality product with the benefit of pure Android - without skins and carrier customizations. It was great for about a year and then I dropped it and the screen shattered - the repair cost me $190 (at Evertec) - Iphones cost half as much for a screen repair. A couple of months later I dropped it again and couldn't justify spending another $190 to get it fixed. Show details
Best android phone I've owned – I've been through many android phones over the years. They tend to slow down and become unusable for day to day things very quickly. So far, though, the Nexus has been fantastic. It runs quickly and smoothly. It's a nice size with a large screen and vibrant colours. The camera is the only thing that could be improved - it's okay, but it still just doesn't compare to an iPhone. Overall, a good budget option. Show details

Wouldnt buy a google phone again – Had this phone for just over a year and never had any problems with it until a system update. After the system update, the phone phone just stopped working, and google wouldn't replace it for me with warranty because the screen was broken. Such a waste... I won't trust any google products again. Show details
Will fail after warranty expires – Check the online blogs for this phone- a mass of failures with the power switch which renders it unusable. I had a techie look at mine and he said it was only repairable with pricey replacement parts. And you can't transfer your data to another phone if it won't turn on! It seems as though there are 1000's of victims out there where this has… Read more
failed soon after the warranty has expired. And then there is the issue of poor battery life. I can't recall a time where the battery lasted 24 hours, despite installing a new genuine LG battery. LG should have done a recall on this model. I won't be buying an LG phone again.
Good while it lasted – A good looking LG phone backed by google. The hardware has reasonable specifications although the phone starts to slow down a bit with time. The best feature is of course the regular OS updates from google, so you are always the first to get the new features. This is a budget phone and not very durable. It had a lifetime of about 1 year for me… Read more
before I had to replace it. The GPS started having issues and it became extremely difficult to track your location or use navigation. Next the headphone jack stopped working and the charging capacity dropped.

The most disappointing phone I have owned – Purchased to replace a Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone becomes very slow after a few weeks of use. It also has issues maintaining connection to the internet (both wifi and 4G). Battery life lasts less than a day with moderate use. This is the most disappointing phone I have ever owned. Good phone – Good phone, camera better than in the older model. Clear, responsive screen. Price has gone up substantially but for what it includes is ok. Battery average. Only major disappointment is the lack of a micro SD slot to try and force people into buying the much more expensive 32GB phone. Show details
Two dodgy phones in a row – The first nexus 5 I bought had to be returned because the screen stopped working within two weeks (hardware issue). I then returned it and got a new one (March 2017) and it constantly turns off multiple times per day and will loose mobile network reception multiple times during a phone call. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement. Show details
Excellent phone, battery life poor – Purchased when first released and still in use. Haven't bothered to upgrade to newer models as don't see that they offer much over this one. Only thing which lets it down is battery life. The OS is no longer being upgraded either, only security fixes, so will no doubt have to get rid of it in the next few years as apps may not offer full functionality. Show details
Worst cell phone – GPS signal weak and often drops. Phone loses data connection when moving out from WiFi area. Phone needs to be rebooted (Power off/on) every other day as data signal is lost. I received this phone free (on an plan renewal) but that price was too high for this phone! Based on my experiences with this phone, I would be leery of any Google phone (e.g. Pixel) Show details
Inexpensive but obsolete very quickly and big issues with Google updates – I was very happy with the phone when I first brought it (Direct from Google). However, the first update reduced my battery life to 4 hours with no fix for months and there have been on/off issues with power after some updates ever since. There have also been numerous issues with other features of the phone such as the camera and light which have… Read more
been broken/unbroken by successive updates. The phone will not be updated to the latest OS despite being only 2 years old and I am guessing most apps will soon stop working!
The worst update issue was a recent one in Oct 16 which failed part way through the update and put my phone into a continuous reboot loop (as if the power button was stuck down) that was not resolved by any of the tricks in the online help. Google support was useless, told me it was an (just) out of warranty hardware issue and that the best solution was to buy a new one. But also referred me to LG for additional help who told me I needed a new motherboard in my phone as it was a power button issue. (Which would have been hundreds of dollars)
The solution to the problem was to pry the back off the phone and disconnect/reconnect the battery and bios battery then reboot without the sim card+holder installed. (I don't know which part of that was what fixed it and if I was doing it again I would try just without the sim card/card holder first). The phone then booted and completed the update and has worked fine since. So presumably a software hardware incompatibility fault with some phones but really, really stressful and had I not been as proactive would have cost me hundreds of dollars.
All in all I wouldn't purchase a Google phone direct from Google ever again. I would probably also avoid LG phones because of this and I will purchase whatever phone I get next from a store in Australia where Australian consumer rights apply!
Decent Phone with Too Many Problems – The analogy I would like to use is that of a bad marriage. You buy the Nexus 5, enter a happy honeymoon phase for about 1 year, and then all of a sudden little problems start to emerge. After awhile the entire phone shuts down and none of the parties responsible for the sale and/ or technology can help (LG and Google). 1. The power button is… Read more
defective. You can check out all the Youtube channels and support pages that you like and will find that the power button on this model is "sticky" and causes too many problems to too many individuals.
2. The android updates often crashed the phone.
3. One day the phone just turned off. It wasn't due to a low battery or a sudden drop to the ground. It decided to stop working. I tried powering the phone through several methods, the Google support suggestions of power button + volume down, etc. Nothing worked.
Love My Phone! – I've had my phone for nearly 2 years now and love it! The new nexus is coming out soon, and I'm weighing up weather to go for it. The battery and front camera are two major downfalls, as is the sound quality when videoing on the nexus 5, but these problems have apparently been fixed in the new model.
Great phone for the price – I've had this phone about a year. Bought for $380 from an online seller. Never had any major issues with it. Android updates run smoothly. Screen is great and high resolution. Touchscreen very responsive. Battery life could be better. Would be 5 stars if battery life was a little better.
Wonderful :) – Looked around for different phones in my price range and this was one of the best! Great quality, does everything I want and need, easy to use and set up :) 10/10 would recommend!! Have had some issues with internet connectivity but that was my phone company issue. I've dropped it many a time now but the screen hasn't smashed which has saved me lots of money!!

Great Phone: But – I loved my phone for a while it did everything I needed and more with great battery life, which surprised me. I admit I am hard on my phones and have been known to drop them but I have never previously cracked a screen. very nervous about purchasing the 6 as I am really concerned about the screen quality, as the 5 was often poorly reviewed in regards to screen resilience.
Other than my now cracked screen, I really enjoy my nexus 5.
Great phone with a few limitations – +ve: fast, perfect size, good looking, apps never a problem for android -ve: battery sucks, recently hanging problem after OS upgrade
Great phone with a great price – You won't be able to find a phone of this caliber with this price tag. The screen is big and bright with a very high resolution, the processor is more than capable but the camera is a bit lackluster for an 8mp. Feels very well built (made in Korea), just wished that a power button was placed at the bottom of the screen like an Iphone/galaxy instead of on the side.
Never buy from Google! – Bought a nexus 5 from the Google store it stopped being able to pick up cellular service after 3 weeks! Their returns policy is a joke can't get your money back even though it's defective, you have to buy a new/refurbished phone from them before they send it, and then you send the old phone back and it can be up to 21 days till u can use the money… Read more
in your account, the refurbished phone which is worth 100 dollars less than you paid to start with so you are 100 dollars out of pocket and have $449 dollars in your account that you can't use and they may charge you that if its not covered under the warranty. This is the stupidest returns policy ever very suspect business practices from Google!
Camera Update Deletes Photos – Please be informed that the Google camera update for the Google Nexus 5 phone deletes at random your stored photos. I have encountered this problem twice. acknowledging the reports since July 2014, however they have offered NO FIX.
I was shocked to see the forums and their threads and the numerous responses from a Google representative asking for more information and failing to provide a solution over a three month period.
Please be aware that this is a major issue if you take photos with your phone. In my case I lost 250 photos during an overseas holiday before I could back them up to another device.
This issue was first reported in July, it is now November. Google should be ashamed at their total failure to address this issue.
Good value and an excellent phone – The Nexus 5 is a good phone, full stop. It's incredibly fast and handles multi-tasking very well. The clean android is a blessing, without the usual bloatware that a "brand" phone usually entails. The resolution is incredible and the battery-life is o.k, although I can't say it's great. At times it feels a bit flimsy, but a good case/cover should… Read more
solve this issue. I have the original bumper case and it appears to be sturdy. I'm happy with my purchase and in fact I have already bought another one for a family member. Good value, clean android. Nothing so far.
Cheap, fast, good – I like this phone a lot. It's the right price, good quality, and I haven't had any issues with screen scratches or marks or button flimsiness. I've got it in a fairly lightweight case with a screen protector (which is probably unnecessary) and it's probably pretty much in the same condition as when I bought it ten months ago. Also, really easy to… Read more
root it using the Nexus Root Toolkit (pretty much fully automated) and this device is supported by slimroms, who make nice simple clean Android roms with lots of settings to fiddle with (the vanilla Android build doesn't allow you to tweak as much stuff). Cheap, reliable, fast
Thumbs up – This is one of the fastest phones on the market with one of the best screens, plenty of memory and the latest version of Kit Kat makes this outperform phones at substantially higher price points; the specs speak for themselves. The only thing I miss is an SD card option which I work around using the BT Sync app. Games run superbly in Full HD with… Read more
no lag. Buttons are in sensible places. Previously it would have lost marks because of a bug in qqcamera-daemon that occasionally and randomly drained battery life in a couple of hours if you didn't notice and reboot it; but they seem to have nipped that one with the latest update. So battery life is not spectacular but you get a day out of it.
The camera is nothing to write home about but it is nice enough and HDR mode works quite well. specs at price point, very few apps that can't be uninstalled, 4G
Not as good as the old model – I bought the new model having loved the interface, durability and low cost of the old one. I put my trust in Google's software and I was rewarded again. What disappointed me though was the lack of quality in the LG build. For example if I didn't have a case on it, the sleep/power button feels flimsy and prone to breaking, and so does the… Read more
volume button.
The camera at the back needs to have a plastic cover on it if you don't want dust getting caught deep in its grooves.
The speakers aren't a great quality. And it's annoying how the battery is not readily removable.
Furthermore the GORILLA SCREEN 3 is just some useless name tag on its screen. I scratched it the first day by having it in my pocket next to my keys.
All that aside, still beats most of the phones out there with a much more satisfying price tag. The screen is crisp and clean, and the phone is super fast.
The camera and battery usage are like any other smart phone of these days.
On the plus side, you constantly get android updates and fixes long before other phones manufacturers, and being made out of plastic, you can drop it without the sinking feeling because most likely it'll just have a tiny scratch. screen, inexpensive, fast, reliable, screen durability, button flimsyness, camera lense protector, overall cheap make.
Great phone except – This is definitely the best mobile phone I have ever had. It is a big advantage not having another 'layer' over the Android operating system. It is easy to use, has a great screen, and still fits in my jeans pocket. One major drawback is its very poor mobile reception. My previous was a Motorola Defy+ (Telstra Bluetick) which has great reception… Read more
in our home. The Nexus 5 in the same house has no signal more than 50% of the time. To reduce time between battery recharges (I now get around 48 hours with limited use) who have to go through all your settings and also apply a few tricks you can find on the Internet (Google Nexus 5 battery saving). If you live in an area where you have good mobile reception I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Nexus 5. I purchased mine online through Google Playstore and saved hundreds of dollars. The other advantage of this is that it comes unlocked. Screen clarity and colours; Android OS, lightweight; easy to use; price if you buy it through Google Playstore. Very weak signal strength; battery life needs to be managed.
Great value smart phone – This is the best value smart phone around when I purchased it nearly six months ago although now I would also look at the One Plus coming soon. The Nexus 5 has a "clean" Android OS without the add ons that other manufacturers put on their phones so updates come quickly. Games are fast and responsive. you, everything is seamless. After going through 6 smartphones, this has been my favorite. If you love technology and you dont want to be tried in to a 2 year contract or pay a fortune this is the phone to buy. Price (it is cheap comparable to other devices with the same specs), Operating System, Screen, induction charging, build quality, NFC chip, 4G Battery life (its good but not fantastic), camera (its good but not fantastic), maybe size if you haven't had a big phone before.
Love it – Great phone been using it since day 1 and still barely aged. For its price it's sweet. Phone super speedy and nice size
