bought a factory dud. I now know to steer clear of this cheap and nasty "No Frills" electronics brand. Their R&D is obviously pathetic.

If you buy one of these with the thought of getting comfort while you sleep, be prepared to get less sleep than ever. It seems to heat and cool effectively. It is noiser than an old house settling, which seems to be due to its cheap and nasty materials and design. It has a plastic shroud that surrounds some of the insulating foam inside, and every time the compressor kicks in or out, the thermal expansion causes extremely loud creaks and cracks - enough to wake you up continuously all night.
