Its the outdoor PCB – We installed 3 of these units. 1 worked fine. 1 failed during warranty. 1 failed after. The one that failed in warranty had to have its outdoor PCB replaced. The 1 that failed has been sitting idle, but I had it looked at - it's the outdoor PCB. I've looked at it again recently, and there is a clear scorch mark on the PCB. I've now ordered the… Read more

part for $388 and will repair.

The units also can malfunction when then indoor filters get too clogged up - so make sure you clean them every now and again.

So this isn't really a review - the product is discontinued - just putting my experiences out there.

For units purchased in Nov 2009 - the fact that they are still working is very reasonable.

Cheers!

Powerful. Reliable for 14 years – Lasted for 14 years with heavy use. Better than expected. Powerful, quiet and efficient. Internal fan became noisey over time but never stopped working. It is still going strong. The build quality is way better than modern Mitsubishi or daikin in terms of the aesthetics of the internal unit. Made in South Korea. Show details ·  1

Mother board WILL fail. Big $$ – I wish i had of checked reviews before purchasing this unit. Worked until the warranty ran out and stopped. 5 flashes fault code on the inside unit. Technician says communication to out door unit problem. Like many others mine needs a $500 PCB (Mother board) and $88 fitting and $150 diagnostic so $738. I have other AC units not LG which are older… Read more

and never a problem. Don't waist your money on LG. Its just out of warranty and they wont even give me 10% off the part. No care or concern.

Multi Problems – I got this installed in our front garage 5 years ago. It gets used about 10 times a year for about 4 to 5 hours at a time. Every season it has given problems. This season it has failed again (5 flashing leds - means no communication with outside unit) and is 2 months out of warranty. LG refuse to help. With every chance a main PCB is needed I… Read more

guess this unit is better off replaced.

We have a very large property and have various Panasonic and Mitsubishi Heavy installed with no problems.

Stay away from LG!

Peice of junk – Only had for 5 years and the heating stopped working. Reason was the PCB BOARD Was told must have been a power surge which is impossible. An absolute peice of junk. Never buy LG products Show details

Be Careful There Are Better Choices – My conditioner is 6 years old, 1 year out of warranty and it stopped working. The LG recommended service man advised me that the out door fan needed replacing and as a consequence the main PC board would require replacing as well.LG recognize this is a problem and haven't corrected it. The new parts have only a 6 month warranty and so it could… Read more

I read many reviews are just 1 or 2 years from purchase, way to early for an objective review

Large Unit Heats and Cools whole house in Auckland – When I brought this unit the Tech said its too big. I don't want to be called back because it cycles on and off to much. He was wrong. He also said that where I put it was stupid as he would have had it in the lounge. He was also wrong. The lounge, kitchen and dining area are open plan in a "L" formation. The heat pump sits on the wall of the… Read more

dinning room and blows through the lounge into the hallway and master bedroom as well as looks after the temperature in the kitchen. The noise from the unit does not interrupt TV watching with it placed there and you don't feel as thou the unit is blowing air on you. The house is circa 1950's, 85 square meters with new underfloor and roof insulation, LED lights, a fireplace and a heat transfer kit. The fireplace goes out over night and when the temperature drops in the room the heat pump acts to keep the house warm. The size of the unit is such that the fireplace is not required.

I have free firewood and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't use the fireplace much. Last night it was 4.4 degrees outside at 6:30am however the coldest room in the house was 18 degrees with the heat pump set to 22 degrees. I have Wifi control on the heat pump and its great. The only issues I've had is where the installer plugged in the Wifi unit without the system powered off and a faulty remote control. Both of which LG were more than happy to replace and I've since had trouble free usage. When I brought the unit I wasn't concerned about noise or power usage, I wanted output and that's what this unit supplies. It is also of the generation of heat pumps where they had to remove an energy star from them as they have become very efficient so even though its economy stars aren't great compared with others it is still cheap to run. I'd recommend this heat pump for anyone looking to use it the same way I have ( in an open plan living area with a heat transfer unit as a whole house solution )

Pretty much junk – The good: The cooling is effective, but only on the rare occasions that it works. The bad: It is the least reliable appliance I have ever had the misfortune of owning. The unit has failed, for different reasons, 5 times during warranty period. Now, 3-months outside warranty, it's failed again. Also, the fan is loud.

Quality issues – Straight out of the box, found several damaged cooling fins on the inside unit. Returned for a replacement and replacement unit had very similar damaged fins. I swapped it for a Mitsubishi MSZ GE25 unit, works great!

Works great, as expected – I purchased this unit a few years ago now, it was recommend to me by a local air conditioner tech. I haven't had any problems, i run it a fair bit, i clean the filters a lot. I didn't think it added that much to my power bill. It easily cools or heats our living, dinning and kitchen area and up the hall/reception area. very happy. Looks good, quiet, works well

OK – overall the air con is ok, well its better then nothing i think but it does only cool our lounge room, we have had it for almost a year and so far it hasnt broken down yet but we have warranty so thats good. it isnt too noisy which is great, if you site right in front of it its the best cools quite well on days that are not too hot such as over 35… Read more

Good – I bought this model after trawling whirlpool.net.au and listening to installers. It has saved us from the 2009-10 summer and done it's job well. For the price it is competitive but you have to negotiate hard to get the price to $1800. Honestly I relied on the installer's advice as he is an electrical engineer and a family friend. Happy with the… Read more

unit to date, purchased in Feb 2010 The good review from Choice magazine (rated #1)Sept 2009

It is fast at cooling and the outdoor unit runs quietly. We bought the R24AWN for $1800 which was a competitive price. The installer recommended the LG because of the lower cost of spare parts in and servicing. The unit cools our rooms quickly and has plenty of power. We haven't as yet received our electricity bill so can't comment on efficiency. Good cooling modes such as efficient mode, fan only and direction control The chunky look of the indoor unit.

Terrible – An unreliable product with a frustrating service centre providing the warranty backup. NOT RECOMMENDED. I will stick to Panasonic and Fujitsu in the future. I bought the R09AWN. It worked very well for all of 3 months, then conked out in the middle of summer. More on that below. When it works, it is a quiet, effective bedroom unit with "plasma… Read more

technology". It's hard to say whether or not this technology is just marketing hype or not. 3 months of light usage (<200hrs) and it stopped working, with a "thermistor failure" error. I contacted LGE and it is covered under warranty. Whilst the LGE service centre operators are polite, I have had to make 8 calls now in my efforts to get a service technician out to me.

The first 3 calls were because I didn't have all the necessary information with me - serial number, model number, etc. They refused to book a service until I could provide a serial number. I was hoping to book the service from work and provide the serial once I went home, thus getting the job into their system ASAP. Unfortunately they were highly inflexible with this procedure.

After finally booking a warranty service, I was assured that a tech would contact me within 48 hours. 4 days later, I still haven't had a call from a tech. I called LGE and they gave me the tech's number to contact him directly. Of course he's not replying or picking up the phone.

So, in the middle of Perth WA summer with a newborn baby that can't sleep in the heat, I'm stuck waiting for LG to get their act together.

I made a few more calls to LG and eventually came up with a solution. I found an alternative service tech who could come out in 2 days time and do the warranty repair. However, due to some bad history between LG and this business, they refused to let me use him. The decision was final. Yet, from other reviews on the net, this alternative service tech is perfectly reliable and reputable.

So it's back to waiting for their preferred tech to call me back. If I'm lucky, he'll be able to come out to me in 5 to 9 days time. In the meantime, my baby continues to sweat it out and cry every night.

Good – Plenty of bang for your buck with this unit. Cetainly cant see this unit getting stressed in summer. Manufacture quality is very good. Bought a R22AWN. Powerful unit, but only had it for winter so far.Heats all my bottom story easily, looks ok ...though would like a cream colour choice. Slightly too noisy (fan speed)on the lowest setting for my liking. Show reply
