Worst product ever invented – This is a completely useless product, it does not do anything it is described to do but does extra things like, getting stuck under furniture, pushing chairs around the room, bumping into walls, flicking whatever’s on the floor around the room, trying to climb up furniture, falling off stairs, pushing doors closed, falling outside the front door,… Read more

shutting off for no reason, playing annoying error message, pushing the charging station around the room, wandering around aimlessly, trying to locate the charging station but can’t can and keeps wandering around. Oh, It actually does a lot of things, maybe I was wrong... actually I think it’s great value for the $900 I paid for the [Word Removed] of a thing! Happy vacuuming!

Pretty much useless – I have tile, floor boards and carpet it barely vacuums up anything on any of the surfaces mostly just flicks it all around. Has also left terrible black marks all down my walls. Constantly gets stuck even on the small bump. Have packed it away and no longer use it.  Show details

Not bad, but isnt working now – Works OK on hard floors. Not good on carpet. Ok for regular maintenance, but you still need to regularly vacuum. Unit is 18 months old and has now failed. 1 of the 2 sweeping brushes have stopped working. LG advise the only people servicing the vacuum are in NSW.. Time will tell how good their customer service is.  Show details

This is a very useful appliance. Happy with it – I had a test drive of this cleaner because my friend lent it to me for a couple of weeks. After the test drive we (especially my wife) purchased it immediately. Its main purpose is to save my and my wife's time and this robotic cleaner does it well. It takes about 40 to 60 minutes to clean a ~120m2 house. I can do it for let's say 20-30 minutes.… Read more

With this Roboking I don't have to spend this time.

Pros:

1. Navigational capabilities are good. It does not miss any areas unless they are inaccessible for the cleaner. However, sometimes its navigation algorithm puzzles me as it can skip certain area for unknown reason, but return to it later.

2. Picks up surprisingly much of dust and dirt.

3. Recognizes carpets and turns on Turbo mode.

4. If its battery is low goes back to the charger and then continues from a place where it stopped cleaning.

5. Cleans corners (Yay!) well and sweeps dirt at very close distance from the walls with its brushes.

6. Supports a number of the cleaning patterns as well as an option to clean specific areas.

7. Learns the area and improves its navigation over time.

8. Does a great job under a bed.

Cons:

1. When low on battery rushes to the charger forgetting all navigation capabilities and sometimes gets lost in a place where it was able to navigate and clean perfectly. Is this called panic? :)

2. Does not detect how much dirt is on the floor, so if you drop a box of flakes and order it to clean the cleaner will make it even worse partially spreading that heap of flakes around and partially eating them. Eventually it will pick all of them but you will have to let it to make a few additional passes over that area.

3. Dry mop is completely useless.

4. Sometimes it does stuck under furniture or in narrow places such as between chair legs. It honestly detects a difficult situation and tries to get out. Mostly it succeeds, but sometimes it fails and calls for help. The key to success is to find all these places during initial runs and barricade them in one or another way. For example, I had to move a recliner a bit closer to the wall to avoid the cleaner to push itself under that recliner.

5. Wires and power cords is the problem number one. Usually, if a cord is thin and flexible enough the cleaner gets its wheels entangled before it figures out that something is wrong.

6. Some steps make it confused. In my case it was able to climb to a step to a bathroom, but was afraid to get out of the bathroom thinking that this step is a cliff. :)

7. Its upper cover and sides get scratched quickly so it doesn't look shiny and new after a couple of weeks of intensive usage.

I have mixed type floors - 50% carpet and 50% tiled floors (with uneven tiles). The cleaner works well with both of them, but when it detects a carpet floor it switches to the Turbo mode automatically, which drains the battery at a much faster rate. So if I order it to clean the whole house and it visits each room with a carpet floor its battery is barely enough to finish the whole house, sometimes it is able to clean it on a signle charge, sometimes it goes back to the charging station.

Conclusion: Despite its all cons the cleaner still saves our time greatly and that was the reason for buying it. I am very satisfied. I have a classic vacuum cleaner. When I was writing this review I realized that I had used it only once or twice during the previous year. There was no need. I don't have pets, so can't really describe what it does with the pet hairs.

Life is definitely good – This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am an Aged Care worker who works mostly afternoons and N/D, I am also studying Dip. of Nursing. This little vac is a godsend. While I'm studying "Edgar" as when we have named him, just runs around and then when he is tired, he heads home and charges himself up. I can also set him off to vacuum… Read more

while I'm sleeping after doing a night shift.

This appliance saves me from having to vacuum every day (which I used to have to do) as I have a Japanese Spitz who sheds hair and also 2 kids and a parrot who throws things out of his cage. The only noise I hear from it is as it goes over the tiles, which is a click-clack sound, bit a train on the tracks really, so it's not annoying. The transition from tiles to carpet is great, never a hesitation. Possible only complaint is the collection bin is not big enough. I love that it is square and that the brushes extend out from the corners to get in the corners.

Faulty – Was perfect for first few weeks. It made a huge dent in the cleaning regime, perfectly dodging obstacles as it swiftly darted around eating up all the dust and dirt. Then all of a sudden it turned from a cleaning ninja into an old blind man banging into every obstacle possible. We were informed it needed a softwate update and had to be sent away. So that was the end of old mate.  Show details

Safety Hazard - fell down our stairs and over landing 12 times and could have killed our 2 babies – Dear all consumers - do not trust LG Robokings - they are a safety hazard and chipped our wall and almost hit our babies by falling over landings and stairs Please see what LG wrote to us below (email copies) when we sent in for a replacement when under 12 months old. work and never have.

***** Buyers BEWARE of LG Products and Service Warranty: of Robo-king or similar from LG ***

Dear Unsuspecting Customers,

Do not buy a Roboking or similar robotic vacuum cleaner from LG if you have any second storey or stairs. The promoted edge protection/cliff protection does not work and the roboking has fallen 8 times from our second storey on polished boards and cracked our stairs and walls on the way down.

When this happened last with a unit that was under 12 months old, after 12 phone-calls and emails, as well as taking to the service centre in Perth and talking to the Philippines over, we have no outcome and no Robo-king. The smashed unit that fell down our stairs again and is rendered useless is at the Service Centre and we have been blamed.

[name removed] the senior manager of LG at Phillipines HQ did not return our emails and calls to please provide photo evidence of his diagnosis, which blamed the customer for this manufacturer fault.

All we wanted was our money back or the new unit which we hoped would have a working edge/cliff protection. We have two small babies and it seemed like a great idea to help with the housework – in fact it could have killed them falling down the stairs to the next level.

It is a major safety concern that LG has ignored.

[name removed] spoke over me on the phone and was the WORST customer service experience I have ever had. I asked for a local manager to speak to but got the Philippines over and over again.

We have been ignored and blamed and no replacement or photos of what they deemed to be our fault provided. Left hanging my LG. Very poor.

Also the exact same situation happened to our neighbours who had to install a hard barrier so the LG Robo-king could not fall off the edge of the second level also.

We are very disappointed at spending almost $1000 on a unit and being treated like this and it not working as described.

Your sincerely, Anita McSweeney, Perth, Western Australia

Then he wrote this:

'If you wish to get a copy of the service assessment and the photos indicating the fault identified, you can contact Perth Digital. Please note that they will charge you of the assessment fee for you to get a copy of the report. Thanks.'

Thanks for what I ask? Terrible service?!

I wrote the below to LG:

RE: No photos or evidence supplied by [name removed]’s diagnosis of Roboking that was our fault it fell down the stairs 12 x – apparently I didn’t clean it properly. (See email below sent to us )

Please can you supply evidence and the machine back so we can post it on social media and facebook to show what a safety issue the roboking is? Thank you – we are tired of being ignore – but I think next I’ll go to a television station since you ignore continually.

I have been ignored by [name removed] and your email administrators – re: attached and other emails I have sent regarding a SAFETY issue regarding the LG roboking.

We request our money back or the new model of the robo-vac by LG – why? Because yours crashed down our stairs over a dozen times and 2 different machines we had replaced.

[name removed] blamed us for not cleaning after we sent it to the repair centre (we have done this 3 times also) – however we cleaned regularly.

[name removed] then ignored communications to send us photos to show the evidence of what he deemed the user not cleaning the machine properly.

We would like a response ASAP and will be positing this experience and the fact that the machine could have killed our babies when it fell down the stairs – and it chipped our wall and damaged our house.

- Then was told - pick up your broken and smashed up roboking and keep it. (EVEN THOUGH IT NEARLY KILLED YOUR CHILDREN!)

Perfect if you have fur friends – We've bought it for a while, and I think it is a right time for me to review it base on my own experience. Generally, it works very well and saves me heaps of time on cleaning timber floors with my dog's hair (10 yro Jack Russell). It also cleans on the carpet, but you have to make your carpet sits very flat, my guest bedroom has a slice of… Read more

bumps up, it is quite sensitive to detect these barriers and notify you by sound" please remove the stuff on the LHS or RHS sensor".

It cleans pretty much all the corners which it goes through. After the clean, I always clean the underneath brushes and inner dust box, you can wash the inner box and roller brush is washable.

The only drawbacks is the clean filter(paper) is not washable and harvey norman or good guy do not sell it, they advise me to order it from the official website. LG website is not helpful, there are tons of different parts for different models which I have to go through myself, it is time-consuming and not convenient. I dont even know what it's called for this filter.

I don't get any faults or breakdown for this machine during the past year. I have recommended it to some friends, and feedbacks are pretty good.

It is an expensive machine, but it dose its job very well. I remember the warranty is 2 years.

Does not do everything it says on the box, poor post product support!!! – Have had this unit now for quite a while (purchased Dec'15) and it has been fully "trained" using the manual and setting up the area we want. You can not leave the unit alone, we have to close all doors and block archways to prevent it going outside of the "trained" area. Have had the unit sent into LG service center (at our cost to get the unit… Read more

back!) and they "tested" it and it did not go outside of the "trained" area which apparently had a door way.

If we could get the unit to stay within the area trained without having to shut the doors or put things in the arch way it would get a higher rating but only just. The whole point we chose this model was because the LG sales rep(s) (yes 2 of them in different stores) not just store staff said it can be setup to work an area and not go outside of the area by "training" the unit.

Other issue is, it's ability to not find the home station even if you put it right in front of it.

Never going to purchase LG items again as I don't believe they know what their items do or do not... And I did like the look of the LG 38UC99 38inch Curved UltraWide QHD IPS FreeSync LED Monitor. But guess that wont do what it says on the box either so will give that a miss.

constantly gets stuck, can not work unsupervised, can't find its way home – Not happy at all, tried to get a refund but LG asked me to send it for a service, it returned still useless. Not worth the money at all, and LG refuse to give a refund if it passes their service. It constantly gets stuck under furniture where there is plenty of space, gets stuck on sliding door rails, states there is something caught in its wheel, when there is nothing there. Never finds its way back to docking station.  Show details

Doesn't find home station and gets stuck on everything – We purchased this Roboking (top of the line) in July 2016. We were replacing it after we had an unfortunate mishap with our Roomba IRobot (operator error - not the fault of the vacuum cleaner). The retailer did not have a new model of the Roomba IRobot available on the day and we desperately wanted one (we have four dogs at home so lots of… Read more

hair). In short, the retailer sold us the Roboking. Worst decision we ever made. In the three months we have owned it, it has only once found it's home station. We spend the first few minutes every night searching the ground floor of our home for the vacuum cleaner, as this LG gets caught on just about EVERYTHING! It picks up dust and hair thoroughly but really is only doing half the job. Purchasing this vacuum cleaner was the worst decision we made. We should have waited a few weeks for the new Roomba IRobot, which was trouble free for over two years.

Doesn't find home station, lg says nothing wrong – The vacuum cleaner worked well for less than a month. I have had the vacuum for 5 months now. back exactly the same! I have called again and they said I will be charged if they can't find anything wrong with the manufacture of the robot. They couldn't find anything wrong the first time either, yet it won't charge.

Love it – I had the Robomaid previously - it packed it in after a short while and of course Robomaid had gone out of business. I thought hard about buying another brand but I find the robots so useful because it's hard for me to manually vacuum now. The LG Roboking is fantastic. I have had it for 2 1/2 months and it is so MUCH better than the Robomaid. I… Read more

bought the top model - which was more expensive but I got it on a when it was on special from RT Edwards.

It does a great job of cleaning, it actually gets right in the corners and goes easy from my wooden floors to the carpet in the bedrooms. It climbs a small border into the tiled bathroom area too (the old Robomaid wouldn't do this).

It is quiet - I can actually hear the TV when it's on. It's very easy to use, easy to see which parts need to be taken out for cleaning, etc. and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Comparing it to my old Robomaid is like comparing an old bomb to a new Mercedes. I'm really happy that I bought it and I will never fall into the trap of buying anything that isn't a well know brand, again.

Considering returning – It does a great clean & very quiet. My floors are tiled and vinyl in the bedrooms. Big negative is that it gets stuck on absolutely everything, stuck under furniture, etc. all the time and I'm forever rescuing it. Don't like the new idea with the wheels. My last LG machine I could not fault.

Ideal cleaning companion – We have owned this unit for about a year now so it is time to write a review. Overall we have no reservations to very much recommend this unit. Our house is entirely hard surface so this may be different for a carpeted house though we have some thick rugs on our floor that it easily climbs onto and takes care of without hassle. It is quiet has a… Read more

variety of programming, announces when it is done and auto returns to its docking station for recharging. For the entire time we have owned it we have had absolutely no hick ups. It is activated once a week and runs through the whole house each time. Depending on obstructions and different floor levels which can be managed, it can do so without interference of the owner. If your rugs have long fringes on the edges it may get confused and think it needs to suck it up and consequently get stuck. If it does, it lets you know that it needs your help and after doing so shuts down to preserve power and prevent damage until you come to its rescue. If you have gaps between floor and furniture marginally less than its own height it may try to get under it and also get stuck. The sensors sense the furniture edges and walls and anything it needs to get around and it auto changes directions mapping away from it but seeking the perfect skirting paths so it does take care of the periphery of the floor surface. Based on the edges it finds, It then continues to navigate the floor area that eventually will cover the complete surface. It does clean very well, including corners and is a real time saver. It is quiet enough to set it loose at night while you are in bed but you need to spend some time learning it’s limitations and habits and yes it learns as well. We have some marginal gaps so we devised some simple artificial barriers, such as a large book, to put in front to stop it from getting stuck. This is just common sense and each house will have its own challenges. It is a highly intelligent unit that performs admirably for which it was designed, cleaning. Bear in mind it is not real “AI” rather sensory programming but very good programming at that. We think LG has got it right and it looks and feel a quality product. We find it necessary to empty the dust bin after each duty cycle but it is an easy process and probably a good habit for it is pretty full each time. Besides, it alerts you to do so each time you start a new cycle. We called ours Robby since it virtually becomes part of the family, roaming among us like a pet while we do other things.

The good: Light, Quiet, Cleans very well, Excellent programming, Comes with a docking station for re-charging with auto return to base program, Quality product

The bad: It's not perfect

Regrettable Purchase – Hope You Like Cleaning (Hunk Of Junk) – My biggest regret was going with the LG Roboking, I had a Roomba (irobot) for 5 years and that run pretty much without any problems and the only frustration was getting replacement consumables (Filters/Brushes) from the US. I purchased the LG Roboking in December 2014 from The Good Guys in Bayswater, Vic. The Good: • Quiet • Local support… Read more

network/replacement parts.

The Average:

• Same suction as the Roomba.

• Same coverage/time as the Roomba.

The Bad:

• After 6 months intermitting issues.

• After 8 months, unusable without cleaning first.

• Having to constantly clean the unit before use.

At first the vacuum was a lot quieter than the Roomba and was able to cover the same square meterage and floor types without any issues. After about 6 months and all of a sudden the unit would intermittently would run for a 5-10 minutes and then say cleaning done and head back to the charging station.

I called LG and I was first asked to press the reset button, hello no reset button and then spent 20 minutes on the phone with the lady troubleshooting, restarting, etc. eventually the answer was take to service centre and if they find nothing wrong I’d have to pay.

Before taking it to the service centre (several suburbs away) I did a little (internet) research and found out that an update to the firmware and a good cleaning sometime can stop this sort of behaviour. I had some initial success and with constant cleaning (top to bottom) every day that seemed to stop the issue. Seriously annoying having to clean it before each use.

Anyway, now another couple of months down the track, even after a good clean its back to the 5 min or less cleaning cycle. I plan on taking this back to the Service Centre and frankly I hold out little hope of getting a lasting fix and I’m considering asking for a refund as I would never have purchased this in I had known that it’d last 6 months or I’d have to do unreasonable maintenance to get it working.

dust goes into the bin. The dust bin is a bit small but Benji (you have to name your robot, right) is on every couple of days so not too bad. Cleans under beds and lounges brilliantly. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY – This has broken down 5 times in 6 months. Bought from Harvey Norman, takes weeks before it's supposed to be repaired and returned. It does not work again! the case has been escalated, this has happened 5 times now in 2 weeks! Now told they will give a store credit will take 24/48 hrs that was 4 days ago. When it was working was good but I will never purchase an LG product again nor buy from Harvey Norman. This vacuum is for an 86 yr old man and he has had to pay a cleaner to do his floors. Will now look at the Samsung one the service could never been like LG or Harvey Norman.

Requires constant supervision – We have a small dog that is inside and 2 young children making a daily mess, so a robot vacuum makes sense. After reading the Choice review, we selected this model. minutes. It doesn't seem to learn, that it can't fit. I can use the "My Space" mode to have it avoid this area (as I really don't need it to clean there anyway), but there is no way to "save" a space, rendering this mode time consuming and largely useless as I have to spend 5-10 minutes driving it around the border to designate the area.

I typically get frustrated and select the HOME button to just have it give up, which it can never seem to find. Sometimes it literally turns around and heads in the complete opposite direction. Even when it hasn't got stuck and had to be repositioned. Most of the time, I have to manually position it so the home is within a couple of metres.

Absolute garbage and will be returning the unit to the store. I may look at the Dyson 360 Eye when its released as the App sounds like a good idea as you can view a map of the cleaning and hopefully be able to designate no-go areas!
