Ah, the LG front loader. Sleek, modern, and oh-so-shiny—like a luxury car parked permanently in your laundry room. For the first two years, I proudly showed it off to guests like it was a new pet. "Look at it! Isn't it beautiful? It even plays a little song when it's done!" But then... the honeymoon ended. Year two hit like a poorly balanced spin… Read more

cycle. First came the hose replacements—multiple. Like an annual tradition, except with more water damage and less joy. Today, I replaced another hose. That’s right, the same one that was replaced last year. The repairman—who I now consider a close family friend—cheerfully informed me that he keeps three of these hoses in his van at all times. Why? Because apparently, LG engineered a machine where the hose consistently rubs against the drum like it’s trying to start a fire. Only instead of fire, we get holes. And leaks. And despair. But wait, there’s more! After two years, the door seal developed a new party trick: hiding rust better than Houdini hides assistants. Behind that innocent-looking rubber ring? A corrosion horror film playing out in secret every time I washed towels. Mechanically, this machine is about as dependable as a weather forecast from a fortune cookie. But it does look good. So if your goal is to have the most fashionable broken appliance on the block, LG has you covered. Final verdict: It’s the most attractive disappointment I’ve ever owned. 2/5 stars—one for the design, one for the bonding time with my repair guy.

Review for LG Washing Machine WV5-1409W – Worst Purchase Ever! I regret buying the LG WV5-1409W washing machine. Within a year, it has turned out to be the worst appliance I’ve ever owned. The biggest issue? It overheats dangerously, to the point where the control panel on the top right melted (See photo) due to excessive heat! The exterior gets… Read more

hot, and the internal temperature rises uncontrollably, making it a major safety hazard.

On top of that, the machine has severe imbalance issues during spinning, causing excessive vibrations and noise. For the price I paid, I expected a reliable product, but even a cheaper Aldi brand performs better in comparison.

To make matters worse, LG’s customer service is an absolute nightmare—rude, unprofessional, and completely useless. They bounce you around for hours with no solution, making the entire experience beyond frustrating.

Avoid this washing machine at all costs. It's not worth the money, is unsafe, and is backed by the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I urgently need a refund, but at the very least, LG should provide a solution or replacement. The excessive heat and melting pose serious hazards and safety concerns. If it were to explode, the consequences could be catastrophic.

Worst washing machine I have ever used – I owned an LG WD14024D6 for 10 years and never an issue. Recently it stopped working so I purchased the WV5-1409W as I wanted an LG due to the performance and reliability of the previous machine. It is the worst washing machine I have ever used , it’s no good for dirty clothes but ok for lightly worn clothes . I have persevered for a while trying… Read more

The New Vibrator from LG – We bought our LG WV5-1409W front loader on 1-5-2024 and all it does is shake, we bought anti-vibration feet for it and it did not help at all, we ended up making brackets to hold it in place so it does not walk, we found out today 7/9/2024 that there are only 2 cycles on the machine that can do 9 kg of washing and the quick wash can only do 2… Read more

DO NOT BUY - CRAPPY MACHINE, WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE – Terrible machine, even worse customer service! I have had this machine for just over two years and it keeps leaking, my partner had a look and the drum is cracked in 3 places. Told it is an end user problem and denied to fix at their cost. This machine was made for walking – The machine washes clothes well, I can usually get away with most things being done on an extended quick 30 cycle. If I don't it's usually 1.5 to 2+ hours for most of the other cycles which isn't ideal for me. I bought a bigger capacity washing machine to be able to wash my doonas but the machine is incapable of keeping the load even and spinning… Read more

past 400/800 rpm. Trying to dry a sopping wet doona in my climate is rarely possible so it really was a waste of money.

The worst thing of all; no matter how many times I level the machine (every 2 months since purchasing in December 2022), it still walks. It is completely incapable of handling almost any spin cycle above 1000rpm and I have absolutely had enough. Leveling it is a nightmare too with all 4 legs needing individual adjusting.

I have a concrete tiled floor with no movement, the downside being it was probably tiled with too much drainage towards the floor drain, but after perfectly leveling machine and trying rubber mats and anti-vibration pads... It just shouldn't be walking every wash. The machine is just garbage.

I will be seeking warranty help as a last resort before getting rid of it and swapping to a different brand. Buyer beware.

Multiple major faults including leaking and short circuiting. LG customer service abysmal – Was working wonderfully until it leaked and flooded our laundry! Damaged the property and short circuited the house. This seems to be a common fault with this model so buyer beware! The water bill that month was 8 times the usage. LG ran diagnostic on the phone and said pump failed and a tech will come and fix it. Well the technician did not… Read more

bring the said pump and rather did something else in the 10 short minutes he spent on site and failed to fix the machine. Didn't even check if it's fixed but he had the audacity to deceivingly note in his paperwork that its fixed. Lo and behold it leaked upon next use, LG refuse to sort it out coz the tech said he fixed it. LG rep also had the gall to say that warranty and Australian consumer guarantees have no provision for replacement or refund regardless of the fault is major or not. All they offer is repeat fixes as a matter of goodwill if they feel like. Also said ACCC don't know what they've written on their website and it's wrong information! 14 hours on the phone over the last 3 months going around in circles with new reps everytime getting us to start everything from scratch we've had enough. ACCC, fair trading and QCAT are the next stop and will sort it out finally for us. LG have made a mockery of the Australian consumer guarantees and their own warranty whilst leaving their customers with unsafe and dangerous machines with major faults unfit for use. No regard for peoples safety and the law. Disgraceful service!

Fantastic Washing machine – Purchased this 9kg as replacement for our 10 plus year old LG Front loader. Absolutely love it. The quick 30 using cold water is our go to. Do not waste your money!!!! – I have 4 children and spend a lot of time washing (70-80 pieces per day). We went with a front loader as we wanted to save water. After 1 year of using the machine it is the worst I. The seal at the entrance to the drum broke-machine less than 3 months old – I had this first LG machine for less than 3 months and was very happy with the functions until last night when I took out a small load of washing, I noticed my floor was wet and upon checking the machine, noticed that the rubber seal to the drum was broken. I rang LG Service centre today and had LG's service agent texted me and quoted me $347 to… Read more

replace the rubber seal (that is 36% of my purchase price). I rang LG again, they said the rubber seal was not under warranty, as that was not manufacturing fault. I wonder if that was not manufacturing fault, could that be the inferior rubber seal material issue? The machine is so new, it shouldn't be wear and tear, and I was always careful in loading up the machine. This is not my first front load washing machine and my previous machine lasted more than 10 year and never had a problem like this. I will be very disappointed if LG technical professional team does not consider this as a warranty item when it just broken in less than 3 months.

Have only used about half the cycles and have not used the LG ThinQ application. Guess I paid for features I'm not using - something to watch forGood water efficiency. Machine is compact for the size of the drum.

Unmerchantable - Do NOT buy! – I have had my LG 9kg/5kg Front Load Washer and Dryer Combo WVC5-1409W for 5 weeks now. noisy stop-start bursts that shake the plumbing throughout the whole house.

It washes well and is very quiet, but the combination washer-dryer is BY NO MEANS A SUSTAINABLE DRYER. I have today tried the dryer cycle for the first time, since I prefer to dry on the line in the sun.

Not only does it require water for the drying cycle (how utterly bizarre), but in addition, the outside of the entire machine gets so hot to the touch during the drying cycle, that it is impossible to keep your hand in contact with it for more than 2 seconds. You could literally cook an egg on it. In addition, the water supply for the drying cycle also comes in at short noisy stop-start bursts that shake the plumbing throughout the whole house. Not only does the heat generated feel like an imminent fire hazard, it must also be so uneconomical that I am astounded it is even legally for sale in Australia.

This machine couldn't possibly last for any satisfactory period of time. There are machines available with a 10 year warranty, and I am gutted that I didn't buy one. I'd be very surprised if I get even 2 years out of it, with the amount of heat it generates. It will almost certainly fail the day after the warranty expires. No electronic component known to man, least of all a motherboard, could survive that amount of heat. Heat is the death of all electronics, and this machine is on death row for sure!

Extremely disappointed for spending $1150 at Harvey Norman on this machine. It is of unmerchantable quality and should be withdrawn from the market. And I'm stuck with it.

DO NOT BUY!

Noisy and not that great – Got the washer/dryer combo. Used it for a day and I’m so disappointed and sad I purchased this. 1. door. 3. Lot less options, such as no spin and drain cycle, no towel or bedding cycles. I can’t create a cycle so it’s very disappointing. 4. When using the dryer, you need to have the fan in the laundry on. It doesn’t say that anywhere but best to do that for safety as well. 5. Every time I want to access the machine remotely I need to connect my phone to the machine. Which is very annoying because my expectation was that it will be connected forever no that’s not the case you have to switch on the washer and then press the delayed start to connect the phone app to the machine EVERYTIME!! I mean come on!! 6. Once a wash cycle is over you can’t start another cycle on the app. You have restart the whole machine and pick the next cycle. Not at all user friendly and not suitable for anyone looking for a tech friendly appliance.

Hands down noisiest washer I have owned, won’t be recommending to anyone.

This machine is very quiet compared to other machines we’ve used and has a variety of different options. Our washing always comes out in perfect condition, unlike our last machine that chewed quite a few things up (despite putting them through a delicate wash). It’s very easy to clean the filter and also has an option to clean the machine. The filter has an easily accessible compartment at the front bottom corner of the machine to let all the dirty water out and to clean out the lint. Make sure you have a container ready before hand, as the dirty water pours out of a small hose inside of this compartment. The thing I’ve been most impressed with is how much our water and electricity bills have dropped since purchasing this machine! Cannot fault this machine in any way! Well worth the money.

small the load is, I have tried everything and nothing works. I have dealt with multiple people at LG in the last month or so to try and get them to cover for the warranty with no luck. They messed up the phone numbers, they made me repeat myself every time and to top it all up, they expect me to pay $99 to their service centre for an extra "technician" who can help remove their heavy/bulky Dryer off the top of my washer for them to be able to check on the faulty washer. What a JOKE! I paid for them to be installed, I bought the extra pieces that this bulky dryer needs to sit on top of the washer and now that I need them to check on the washer, their poorly designed dryer (feel free to check reviews on TD-H802SJW) has become an extra problem/cost for me. To be fair, the sales person did tell me the Dryer was much heavier than a regular one, but I was so silly to think I would not need to move it very often and it wouldn't be much of a problem as it is all NEW! You would not expect to have issues just a few months on. LG customer service is a horrible one, I can see the same experience in other reviews, they don't care at all. When I said I would not need to incur this $99 cost for moving the appliances around if the washer was not faulty, they couldn't care less, they said it was my choice to have purchased this sort of appliance that sits on top of the other and that I needed to commit to pay the $99 if I wanted them to book the service or remove the bulky/heavy LG dryer myself first. When I explained I am a single mum, they went onto ask if someone else could do it for me, really???? To some extent they are right, it was my very poor choice to make such a stupid purchase! Flood damage from new LG washing machine with manufacturing fault - no help provided – Please don't buy any LG washing machines or dishwashers. We purchased a new LG dishwsher in 2018, it flooded our kitchen within 2 weeks. It had a major manufacturing fault and flooded 3 rooms of our house in week 4. No help… Read more

was provided until 10 days down the track, after pushing Harvey Norman (where we bought unit from), to get a drying company out to try and save the carpets. I should mention here that the electric bill for using a steam extraction machine, and 6 commercial blowers, for 3 days and nights runs into the $100's. Unfortunately after the carpets had been sitting in water for so long, the underlay is un-salavagable, we are unsure about the carpets which are still up following the drying process. A technician eventually came to check the unit, and to check if we were to blame. He quickly found the manufacturing fault, and sent his report to LG. One of the inlet pipes was blocked/not made properly, which then caused a rubber tube to split. As a result water kept coming out of our mains to try and fill the machine. As it wasn't able to get enough water into the machine on account of the massive tear in the pipe, it continued trying to fill, and water was gushing all over our floor. Water infiltrated several walls, expanded our skirtings, and effected the GIB. I should point out here that our house was newly rennovated with new carpets, new GIB and skirtings etc. 3 months down the line LG have now put in a request to test our water pressure! So after assessing that their unit is faulty, they will now pin this on us. They said they would call us last week, they didn't. They said they would call yesterday, they didn't. The service centre is based overseas, and the reps accent is very thick and very hard to understand. This company is atrocious, and I wish to save others from their service. The damage that their faulty products have inflicted, is not something that they are willing to take any responsibility for. Their location makes them untouchable. Please do not go near this terrible company. They don't deserve the star I have given. There needs to be a negative rating scale to be able to provide a true indication of the standard of service and product quality.

It is bigger than our 8kg and can take quite a load. We preferred the 9kg to the 13kg as the electricity and water usage rating for the 9kg was far better than the 13kg and we liked the more elegant design. The only thing to beware of is that only at 1400 rpm clothes are dry enough to tumble dry. Other rpm cycles have the clothes quite damp still. This is a great buy and I can recommend it to anyone.

I called the retailer who promptly swapped the machine over for another the following day however when I then called LG to get them to fix my tile they have taken 4-6 weeks to investigate the issue and the when they finally called me back advised while they admit there was a manufacturing fault they take no responsibility for my floor damage and will not be fixing it.

This one is great – I replaced my 10 year old washing machine with this one and I must say I found it quiet and cleaned some old tea towels that were ready for the rag bag . The phone link is great for the young adult in the house who forgets they have a load in the washing machine as it sends a text to say it is complete . Show details
