I recently had a very concerning experience with this locksmith company. Without my consent and without providing any VCAT order or any form of written notice, they replaced the locks on my rental property simply because they have a “good relationship” with the real estate agent. In Victoria, a landlord or agent cannot legally change the locks… Read more

without the tenant’s permission or an official VCAT order. None of these were provided to me. As a result, I was locked out of my own home without warning, which is considered an illegal lockout under Victorian tenancy law. This situation caused significant stress and inconvenience, and I believe the company failed to verify proper legal authority before performing the work. Tenants deserve basic respect and proper legal process, not being locked out without notice. I hope this review encourages future customers and locksmiths to ensure all actions comply with Victorian rental laws and proper authorisation protocols.

On the evening of 25 July 2025, at approximately 8:08 PM, I searched Google for a locksmith to assist my wife who was locked out of our home. I found a company called Keyalike Services Pty Ltd, which advertised a call-out fee of $29 and lockout services starting from $45 on their website. I called their listed number, and a receptionist answered.… Read more

She asked for the address and said a technician would call in 2–3 minutes. The technician called around 8:10 PM, confirmed the address, and advised he would arrive in 25–30 minutes. I specifically asked him for an estimated cost; he refused to give a quote, saying it would "depend on the job."

At approximately 8:45 PM, I called again and was told he was already at my home and speaking with my wife. I again requested a quote, and he still refused to provide one.

By 9:08 PM, my wife called me distressed, saying the technician had completed the job in about 15 minutes and was demanding immediate payment of $2,974.12. I was on the phone with the technician and challenged the amount, which was outrageous. He kept saying, “Don’t talk to me, talk to my boss,” and became aggressive in tone.

My wife was very frightened by his demeanor and said he seemed “not normal.” She was home alone with our daughter and felt unsafe and threatened, especially as we had an early morning competitive swimming event for our child the next day. To protect them and avoid further conflict, I stayed on the phone with the technician until I got home. Under pressure and fear, we paid the charge using our American Express card.

This appears to be a deliberate scam and predatory overcharging. The technician failed to disclose costs in advance, charged nearly $3,000 for a 15-minute job, and used coercion and intimidation to obtain payment.

SCAM OPERATING IN BRISBANE AS LOCKSMITHMORNINGSIDEBRISBANE.COM – I was charged $405 for a lock out of my apartment - absolute rip off! Shocking – Melbournelocksmithservice.com DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! WEBSITE IS MISLEADING AS IT STATES CALL OUT $35 (fair enough) HOUSE LOCKOUT $45+ (again fair enough) We got locked out unfortunately, he came out and couldn’t even get it open! So he drilled a hole in the door, charged me $300! Wtaf? Is that even normal? Left with damage of a door … Read more

And a $300 bill.

Such a rip off.

And how vague can pricing actually be? I asked the guy, well what do you consider to be a $45 lock ? He said a mailbox ok sorry Do I live in a mail box ? Because it clearly states- HOUSE LOCKOUT!

OVERPRICED AND RUDE! – **OVERPRICED and RUDE!** Customer service was terrible. The representative on the phone, [Name Removed]/[Name Removed], was extremely rude and hung up on me before I finished asking my questions. They couldn't provide sufficient reasons for why the technician gave an overpriced quote. The technician, [Name Removed], seemed complicit in this rip-off. I will NEVER USE this SERVICE AGAIN. Please improve your service!!!

Un-professional and dodge – Called to get key re-keyed. Said we’ll need new cylinder $450 + $35 call-out. Then it ended up being the old cylinder re-keyed and it was still $450 +. Left the whole mechanism wobbly. And he got pissy.

Late and too expensive – They say they arrive within 15 minutes but they arrived three and a half hours after I called them. The locksmith called me and acted like it was my fault he got lost and wanted me to send him a pin of my location. When he finally showed up he put in a mock key and kept banging it with a mallet instead of actually picking the lock (and saving the lock). Then he charged me over $300 when I know a normal price is more like $100-$150.

RIP OFF PREDATORS-report to authorities ! – RIP OFF Melbourne- based company t/as M&E Locksmith p/L in Brisbane pretending to be local wherever you live. Do not use – Quotes me at $250 which i thought was sort-of-reasonable. Guy had (no fault of his own) a thick accent, didn't quote me the full price obviously because he had apparently been saying that it was $250 + $100 + $35 callout + 10% GST...$410. Ridiculous pricing - been locked out a few times over the years, all at night time and outside hours, and all… Read more

under $250 for a callout fee. I wasn't exactly scammed but that is a ridiculous amount to charge anyone. I would have slept in my car and called the real estate, broken a window etc. Extortionist practises because the full fee only came out after the door was opened, but this is how they make their money.

Oh, and while the door was opened, I don't think using a pickgun that sounds like a machine gun is healthy for the lock on any door.

Terrible – We had a terrible experience with M&E Locksmiths in Brisbane. We employed them recently to repair/replace a couple of locks. Very little went right with this and I would recommend avoiding them. - Weekend and credit card fees were not communicated in advance - The tradesman barely communicated with us and did several things that were not… Read more

reasonable and that we wouldn't have agreed to: replacing the existing locks with items of a different type including replacing a deadlock with a lockable door handle on a door that already had a handle, and using hardware that wasn't compatible with our existing keys and couldn't be key-matched. - One lock was installed badly in the door (it was loose) - The cost was 3 times what it cost us to have another locksmith completely redo the work later as well as rekeying the locks. - Prices were quoted without making it clear they were exclusive of GST.

When we contacted the main phone number they were unable to provide any certainty or information at all about how issues would be resolved, they couldn't even find our invoice, they simply said they would pass the info to the locksmith who had been out.

The only thing that did go right was that the tradesman came back and resolved some of the initial issues, but in the end the new locks were still incompatible with our existing keys and it was clear he had no idea because he said he could do re-key in a third visit for an additional fee (or he was just having us on).

EXTORTIONISTS – I locked myself out around 6pm on a Sunday evening. Asked my neighbour to ring a locksmith, unfortunately he found M&e Locksmith Pty LTD... AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! I was stupid enough to relent and say I had no choice - everything was inside the house, phone, car keys etc. I had nowhere to go and no money, it was dark by then. The guy would have worked maybe 10 minutes flat and in we were. He insisted on me paying via bank transfer and proceeded to give me a phone number: 0478180824. Of course, no invoice or anything to help justify the pricing. I am kicking myself I gave in and let him do the job at that exhorbitant, totally ludicrous price. The price does not match the job in any way, shape or form, even after 10 percent Sunday surcharge (fair enough) and GST. Today I tried calling that number numerous times, but of course... no answer. I would like to put in a formal complaint. This has to stop. They seem to be continuing their racketing with noone stopping them. I am contacting ACCC tomorrow.

Beware of scam – Operating in Brisbane under local locksmith. Nice gentleman came with another “trainee” and did a 2 min job to grind my lock and charged $450 for that. Asked for price reduction and became aggressive. Will not receive bank transfer and can’t provide invoice on the spot. Only asking for cash or payID. Totally got scammed

M&E Locksmiths are Dodgy – This is what I wrote to M & E when their receipt asked to rate my experience. I got no reply! got here now doesn't work. He pulled the lock apart and has obviously not reinstalled it properly as the snib that manually locks the door just falls out, doesn't work and nor does the key anymore. Your worker tried to say it didn't work when he got here but it did, I was standing next to him when he was locking and unlocking the door with the key, however I was not going to enter into an argument with him, as I am elderly and felt uncomfortable. I believe I have overpaid you, as all the young man did was spray 3 x sticking mechanisms with some WD40 and reinstall one doors mechanism incorrectly after having pulled it apart. He asked for $200, I said I'd give $150 but feel that that is excessive given the circumstances. I will now have to call in another contractor to fix the problem that your worker has created. The young man said he'd come back but I don't have any confidence that he could fix the issue. Your opinion on the matter would be appreciated. Thank you

SCAM Your Local Locksmith 24/7 – These guys are operating in Brisbane under Your Local Locksmith 24/7 but payments are processed under M&E Locksmith and they run Victorian license plates. have sounded warning bells to me. Said he needed to cut the lock pins with a grinder and it would be $1400 (the safe is $50 from Bunnings). I told him I was prepared to pay $200 once he opened the safe, like others he rang his boss and negotiated a special price of $850 all up. I told him to go and I was paying nothing as he was a con. He angrily completed the job I paid him $200 and he left.

I got ripped off! Don't make the same mistake as I did! – They sent out a guy who seemed friendly, but after a 10 minute job he charged $230 plus the $35 call out fee. running my own business that I just paid. Big mistake! I should have been rude and not allowed someone to rip me off like that. I called up Locksmith Melbourne and they said the price has nothing to do with them, it's up to the technician. I tried to put in a complaint about this technician but they wouldn't allow it. They then hung up on me. The name of the technician company is M&E Locksmith. Do not make the same mistake as I did! DO NOT USE THEM! Complete rip off! I tried to contact the technician again to ask if he can be reasonable and return some of the money (as if, haha) but he wouldn't respond to texts or phone calls. "Take the money and run!!!" Absolute jerks, the lot of them. We don't need dishonest businesses like this in Australia.

Also - on their website they claim to have a 5 star rating on ProductReview and as you can see this isn't the case! Talk about false advertising! Plus they have a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sticker. I again called them up to say I ain't satisfied so please give me the guarantee, and the guy said "I didn't put the website together so I don't know". I asked to speak to his manager and he said he didn't have one, then proceeded to hang up on me again.
