Fan inside bbq doesn't work and company won't replace or refund – I purchased this BBQ grill via Amazon UK this year. I found that the fan didn’t work when connected to power so couldn’t get the barbecue to work properly. within 2 days. It is now four months with no reply and I have a dysfunctional barbecue that is not being used due to it being defective.

Would 100% not buy again.

putting soaked apple wood clippings into the charcoal basket to see if I can get some nice smoked meat from the Lotus Grill, anyone on the forum tried this?

I am updating this review after reading some reviews that indicated the charcoal basket was of poor quality and fabrication.

I use the LG at least twice a week and have done so since purchase in July this year, the quality of the product is extremely good and the charcoal basket is heavyweight and sturdy and shows no sign of poor quality....having said that it should be noted that I have the Lotus Grill XL and materials of fabrication may be more robust than the standard size LG?

I use a grill mat on the LG and this tends to give a higher grilling Temperature as the mat contains a lot of the heat produced during the grilling period it also helps in minimising the cleaning of the unit...the cleaning is a little more than indicated in the sales brochure but don’t let that put you off this great BBQ product.

All small cuts of meat can be successfully grilled on the LG and the grill stands up well to wind and if used with a grill dome should be fine in rainy conditions, if you are looking to cook joints of meat than a dome is essential.

Easy To Travel With – This little baby packs up so small. We have ours in a box and take it down the coast and use it regularly. We get great results with regular charcoal . The whole smokeless thing isnt really true but its very much smoke reduced. Its really something to have fresh fish that you have caught grilling while I down a coldie. meat with it? no thanks. we got rid of our old webber and replaced it with a lotus. haven't looked back and cheap as to run.

if you are on the healthy life like us then their is no better way to cook your porterhouse. yum!

Compact Size – This BBQ is an absolute gem to have in an apartment living. The best part is the fan feature that blows air directly into the charcoal. Poor Life Span of Charcoal Basket – I agree with the previous review regarding the poor quality of the charcoal basket. Whilst I actually like using the the Kool Grill I am disappointed with the pathetic and unacceptable life span of the charcoal basket. The basket has literally disintegrated after approximately 6 times of use. If anyone has any advice on how to order/replace a basket from LotusGrill or have a basket manufactured I would be most appreciative.  Show details

Fan died in 40minutes! – Guys! Don't buy this one! The 5V mini fan died half way through of its first session... That tells you everything you need to know! I wonder why didn't the factory provide a quality fan?There are fans out there for 2-3$ that could do the job!

Charcoal Basket very Weak – I am surprised no one has pointed out how weak the charcoal basket is. After one uses the grill 5 to 10 time, he will have to have a new basket fabricated. LotusGrill GmbH will not respond to e-mails which is probably just as well. The baskets two of us have had to have fabricated are much stronger than the one that came with the grill. Anyone purchasing a Lotus grill needs to be ready to have a new basket fabricated.

Wise to ignore marketing puffery! – Let's begin with the marketing puffery. Is it smokeless, yes but only when it's in the box. When in use as soon as any food with juices is placed on the centre rose, it smokes. The heavier the marinade the smokier the grill especially on full fan/heat. small pieces of Malee root charcoal and the intense heat easily transfers to the outer. The only accurate marketing blurbs are on quick start up, 3-4 minutes and you are cooking and the design aesthetics are spot on. As far as the cooking process is concerned the heat is magnified, as expected, at the centre just above the charcoal basket and progressively is less hot as you progress radially outwards. I placed different different types of sausages in a radial pattern and found that it necessitated plenty of turning and flipping to ensure even cooking. If any on the outer weren't keeping up with their inner neighbours they where given a quick sizzle on the centre rose. Marinated chicken pieces were initially cooked in the centre and then transferred on the grill with a great result, tender, moist and caramelised. In about 15 mins we were done with plenty of heat still left to cook for another 3 families. Now for the clean up; the drips solidified on centre grill and inner bowl and Jif cream with dimpled sponge and elbow grease proved no match. Ok not to admit defeat I thought for a minute what cleaning tool would a German made grill marry best with, aha, got the German made Karcher on to it. You wouldn't read about it, this too proved ineffective. Then tried the German made dishwasher, managed to loosen it a little where the Jif and elbow grease finally prevailed, back to an all over shine. Overall pretty happy with the outcome and ready to give the cleaning another crack, perhaps I'll take it through a car wash.

Brilliant little thing! – A beautifully designed portable BBQ. It's very fast to light up and easy (and safe) to move about while on. To get a really high intensity heat it's best to have the fan on highest setting for more than 10 minutes rather than the 3-4 minutes as stated by the manual. Great design, portability, efficiency The closed metal mesh charcoal container got oxidized after just one use. Expected better quality workmanship.

Awesome!! Just Awesome!!! – I recently purchased my Lotus Grill and I haven't stopped using it. Smokeless, effortless and my meat still tastes just the way it should off a BBQ. Living in an apartment, I'm not allowed to BBQ due to strict no smoke regulations. With my Lotus Grill i get to cheat the system and enjoy having my mates over for a BBQ. Reliable, lite weight, easy to use, quick start up time, easy to clean,economical to use

Super fast – I got one the other day as a gift and have used a few times. It took me a couple of go's to get used to it's unique functionality but man it is fast. The Lotus does not do that. I suspect that those with more 'European' tastes who like their meat cooked more gently would have a different opinion to mine.

The instructions need to be followed exactly, especially regarding having the fan on full during cooking and breaking the charcoal into very small pieces (messy). It also requires a lot more cleaning than is suggested in the promotional material; it is not just a matter of putting it in the dishwasher. in about 5 mins.The exterior does not get hot even after an hours use, I have picked it up and moved it during operation from outdoors to indoors. We have cooked everything from Sausages to Salmon with perfect results each time, this clever product has certainly reignited my interest in barbecuing! And the clean up is so easy! Fan not working – Saw the commercial ad on YouTube, and I really like the idea of healthy charcoal grill. So I bought it last week, trying it today, The fan only worked for less than a minute then it stopped working. Very upset with the quality compare to its price.
