ALDI Maginon Car Black Box Questions & Answers

I believe we paid approx $80 for ours a few years ago. Our grief with the camera was more the frustration of recording motorists doing the wrong thing and then when going back over the footage we found we werent able to read the cars number plates. This meant it was useful to prove we didnt commit the offence, but useless to make the other driver held accountable. The other issue was with the cheap mounting materials. In the first month we had the two little wheels fall off even though we first set it and never touched them again. It seemed to do it more during the summer months (the casing would melt and distort) especially when our car was parked in the heat. The camera would then not sit in position. (kept flopping) We tried wiring it back together and even supergluing the parts back on. It ended up spending more time in the glove box, then on the windscreen. You are better off saving your money and finding something that actually works! We have since moved onto a Uniden dual dash cam, another Aldis special, however with covid we havent had the opportunity to go anywhere to be able to test it.

Yes, I have 2 and both seem OK. Have a problem though in that card gets full and wont overwrite older files. They have to be deleted to get it started again. Tempo was of no help as I couldnt understand the asian accent.

Yes you just cant fix the date & time

I can not help you with the problem but can say that I found it a very poor product and could not read numberplates of cars in the video, it did not work long and I bought something else that is very good, just about anything else will be better, not including the junk on eBay :)

Dear Henry,Before I start, let me tell you I am not an expert on these cams.I wrote my initial review about the experiences I had both with the camera and the guarantor.As I said in my review, all my reviewed cameras were badged ONIX. But I believe this is the same camera, only with a different badge.From what I gather from what you have told me it seems you are being asked to pick one of the two options, i.e Mass Storage or PC Camera.You say you have already done this.However this took you no further. I would try using another clean SD Card, just in case the one you have in use has been damaged. Try going through the sequence again. From my experience with the cams I reviewed, they don't go anywhere unless the SD card is installed.Failing that mate I cannot help.I found the selection menu on all the ONIX cams I tried very difficult to work with.They would not permanently hold a setting on most occasions. This was particularly true with the Date and Time function setting.My only other suggestion if you have no luck with what I suggested you may try to get hold of TEMPO CUSTOMER AFTER SALES SUPPORT in Sydney who I understand are tasked to help customers though I found them most unhelpful, as I wrote in my review.The number I have for them is 1300 886 649. If you can find a mini USB charging only cable (getting hard to get) that will fix that problem, also it's an intermittent problem, there are ways to tape off the data connectors also which will fix this, search "how to make your own USB charging only cable"

sounds like you are trying to power it via the USB port on a PC/Laptop, in which case it goes to storage/camera mode (the things it expects to be when connected to a computer. Either charge it and use it standalone or connect it to a power only port (USB charger/or the car socket)

if you cant get to the menu you cant do it, the file durations are there

Sadly it is junk, you will not be able to improve it at all.

It was a lovely thing for my kids to do but highly disappointing that stores can sell such junk.

it is of such poor quilty that it is not worth the time trying, the picture I found so poor that number plates could not be read.

try reseting the system, reset port on botton (press with ballpoint pen)

I just put the memory card into a computer to play back. Sorry my Aldi dash cam failed due to being in a hot car a long time ago.

It runs a cheap chinese version of a nokia battery. I noticed out battery got very hot after being left in the hot csr and was very swollen, and then failed to charge shortly after that.

What did you end up doing? Do we return it?

I bought one in August 2016, CBB3 model. Can't get the battery to hold a charge, it discharges as soon as I turn it on. The time and date won't update correctly, I set it and next time i turn it on it is a totally different time and date. Contacted customer support who agreed to replace it no questions asked. i asked about freight cost to send it back, and was told they would get back to me with a reply paid label..... still waiting. Not sure what to do next as it only cost $50.00, and the freight cost might not be worth it. I think i'm still within the Aldi 60 day return period so I might just get my money back

The unit can perpetually record videos in 3minute lengths until the mem card fills up. When it gets full it records back over itself. I think you can tag important videos so they are saved. You csn format sd cards from the menu.
