Builder with 25 years’ experience. I’ve been a long-time Makita user, but the quality and after-sales support have clearly declined to almost non-existent. I recently purchased a top of the range Makita hammer drill from Bunnings. After just eight weeks of light use (as a backup drill), it failed and would only operate in reverse. The tool still… Read more

presents as near-new.

When I returned to Bunnings, I was told it had to be sent away for assessment rather than replaced. It has now been three weeks with no update on the repair.

I contacted Makita Australia directly and was simply referred to an online escalation form, with no attempt to assist or resolve the issue.

As a tradesman with approximately $20,000 invested in Makita tools, this level of product reliability and customer support is unacceptable. I have had to cut my work day short due to this.

Based on this experience and others, I will be selling my Makita gear and moving to another platform, likely Milwaukee.

Very disappointing outcome from a brand I’ve supported for so many years.

Absolutely terrible products and terrible customer service. DO NOT buy the makita nailer, it will fail. Makita will not replace the product, instead you will wait how ever long to get it fixed. Makita products are cheap and nasty disguised as quality. The entire Makita experience has been the worst.

Horrible service, the dur 193 is the worst whipper on the market. So many reviews online of the bump feature not working and people have to constantly refix the line. Makita make you send it off? Take accountability for your poor design and return it.

Have a number of Makita LXT skins, needed new batteries and Makita web site said new 5.0Ah LXT batteries compatible older models so bought twin pack from hardware. NOT backwards compatible for all my skins, some fit new batteries others NOT. Have had to purchase additional 3.0Ah batteries for my angle grinder.

Best cordless impact screwdriver ever – TD022DSE cordless impact driver This product is simply the best product I have ever used. I have owned three of them. I still have two of them. One was stolen. I was devastated when it was stolen and I’ve just found out Makita still make this product. It is excellent and worth continuing to make. The tool is extremely well powered for its size… Read more

I bought a new battery whipper snipper. Had a few issues with going on line to obtain the 5yr warranty. The service team at MyMakita were excellent! I have now purchased numerous Makita items and I am certain that I will buy more. Excellent customer service and support.

Great customer service – I've needed Makita customer service twice in the past 4 or 5 months. First time was for missing redemption batteries (Australia Post lost them), second time was to figure out a tyre issue on an electric wheelbarrow). Both times Makita Australia were excellent in working through the issue. I don't normally write reviews (except maybe when the… Read more

Cheers to rego 752KF9 for nearly clipping me off the M2 Motorway so they wouldn't miss their Logan Rd exit, what an absolute legend of an idiot. Maybe don't have your business advertised when you want to recklessly drive.

I bought a Makita battery Mower/Line Trimmer combo with extra batteries on redemption from the local Bunnings last September('24) Still waiting for the batteries. Hmmm. Poor service/no response to simple query - spent $2000 on Makita products and had to return one item as it was not as expected. Supplier charged a "restock fee" of $160. I queried Makita twice via email on the fee to see if its legal. No response whatsoever, including from the GM of Sales!

Their claims website is clunky and pathetic, especially on the mobile site. Uploading the receipt is almost impossible for some reason. We’re obviously paying for the redeemable product when purchasing the original item yet they make it a pain in the butt to claim, every other industry and company stream line purchasing yet tool brands, and especially Makita are doing the opposite, stifling the buying process.

Makita DUH602Z – I purchased a makita hedge trimmer DUH602Z 23/2/24 used it 12 times and it stopped working. I returned it to Total Tools, Northlakes, QLD and was informed it would take 4 weeks for it to be repaired. I sent an email to Makita Australia and they said this is their procedure. I have since looked at reviews re these machines and others persons… Read more

have had the same problem. These machines are faulty so I would recommend NOT purchasing one of these. Makita is aware of this and should have replaced the machine. Other persons purchased their machine from a bunnings store and were given a full refund. I would give this machine zero stars if I could along with Makitas attitude towards their customers and their 5 year warranty cover procedure. Just a very poor system. Not at all satisfied so be careful if you are considering one of these machines.

Very dissatisfied with the product – I bought a reticulating saw and would have used it half a dozen times when the part where the blade goes in, wouldn't work. They told me to get it fixed, as it was still under warranty (just). The only place that repaired them is 3 hours from where we live. It took about 6 months to get it back, (after many excuses as to why it was not ready) then… Read more

was told I had to pay for the repairs. To get the thing back, I paid, but after using it once, the same thing occurred. Will never deal with them again, and the saw is going to the dump.

Expensive tools made cheap to fail – I am DIY enthusiast and do all my renos and repairs unless they need to be certified. Always had a desire to buy quality tools even though they were a bit expensive from 1990's( Thats what Makita WAS !) About 5 years ago I bought a DDF 456 18v cordless drill and used it for my work on and off. I dont use them daily and all day like tradesmen do.… Read more

So they are not given a hard time. 18 months ago I was driving a self 20mm self tapper to a steel plate and the drill smoked and that was the end of it's life. It was around 3 years old, out of warrenty!. Had no choice but buying a new. Issue is I can not claim these on my tax. So I am out of pocket!! Bought a new 18V replacement at Sydney tools Midland WA 18 months ago and since six months from the purchase the chuck was coming loose on and off and specially when using hammer function it was impossible to hold a bit in there. I had registered for 5 year warrenty online, so time to try my luck. I live 60km away and took it back to Midland and handed in to Sydney tools on the 29th February 2024. Been told it would be back in a week as it goes to Perth for getting repaired. I was away at work and no one contacted me to update, so thought it must be waiting for me after a month. Had planned some work on my house reno during Easter weekend and I was at Midland Sydney tools to pick up my tool on the 28th March. Its not back and no one seems to know why or where it is. I am furious! My issue is, Makita used to be a great brand and a quality tool manufacturor. Not any more! they are made in China as any other cheap tool in the market charging a premium fromunsuspecting customers. the only thing is if you buy a cheap tool, you just throw away and buy a new one. So be aware when you pay big $$$ for Makita. you get let down and your warrenty keeps you guessing when your tool is going to be back from repairs! Never again!!

Makita DHP-486 18v cordless drill – Purchased over $5,000.00 in Makita cordless tools on February 29th this year to have my 18v DHP-486 drill have a faulty selector ring and gearbox issue. Tool has hardly been used and I have only had it for just under 3 weeks. Went to the tool place I purchased the tools from and they stated they have to send the drill back to Makita to inspect and… Read more

the turn around time could be 3 weeks until I see the drill. All well and good but now I am left without a drill and I run my own business so not sure what I am going to do in the meantime. Logic would state that the tool is under a month old and already failed, why wouldn't you hand a loaner to me or just exchange for a new unit and let Makita deal with it? Clearly ridiculous that the tool has failed in such a short time. After reading reviews here, we clearly receive the cheap Chinese made junk which now explains a lot while other markets get the good Japanese made tools and we PAY MORE for the pleasure compared to the other markets. Come on Makita, lift your socks up and come to the party and help me out. I refuse to buy another tool to get me by out of principle.

Makita Batteries – I have two cordless makita vacuum cleaners and a drill all purchased in the last few years. When I was a young bloke you could buy a Makita and it would last forever. Now you buy a Makita and the batteries fail in a couple of years even with very light use. Then you have to buy new batteries which are nearly as expensive as the tool. This is a… Read more

total rip off. They have clearly deliberately turned the batteries into a consumable. My strong advice is to buy knock off batteries - they couldn't be any worse than original Makita batteries!

Poor quality – I bought a secondary compound mitre as LS1019 for finishing work as my old Makita was going on 15 years and I wanted something a bit more accurate. I have bought and used a lot of Makita power tools over a 40 years period as a carpenter. This new saw which is now 4 years old which has had limited light work was a waste of my hard earned cash.… Read more

After about 8 weeks use on one project ( finishing work only) it had to be repaired as it no longer would swivel to angles. Then seized Then the marking gauge became worn ( this has happened twice now ) not an expensive spare around $15 . The blue plastic on the cutting base is also very flimsy. It is just a poorly built machine.

I have written to Makita Australia to let them know how unhappy I am with saw but I did not receive an answers . If any one out there is looking to buy a new compound mitre saw look at other brands. The quality Makita tools I used to buy are gone.

If I could leave zero stars I would.

Makita was once a good brand – I own over 34 Makita tools which used to be a quality product. I have found with recently purchased Makita tools that they are very expensive, but the quality is junk. My last purchase was a Makita VC3012 Vacuum Cleaner, and I paid $900.00 for, but still can't use because of a beeping it makes (yes, the hose diameter setting is set at 32mm, and why do they have a hose setting adjustment because I can't see different diameter hoses available for it) and Makita says take it to a service agent, but they can't look at it for several weeks, plus they are miles from where I live. Why should I have to do this anyway as it's brand new. Rang the dealer, and they said they can't help me, "Take it to a service agent." This is crap! Total drop in quality – I have used Ryobi tools as a tradie for over 10 years on a regular basis and none of them ever failed. I have recently "upgraded" to Makita as I found the old Ryoby rotary hammer to weak and the screw gun to cumbersome. Within 4 weeks the chuck on the Makita rotary hammer ceased and the screw gun gave up after putting its fourth self tapper in. I… Read more

returned them just to be told that they don't exchange them but only repair them and the turn around is 3 weeks. In the 5th week I got my screw gun back and I am still waiting for my drill. In the meanwhile I found out that Makita is made in Japan, Poland and China. Of course here in Australia we get the chinese version where the Europeans get the polish and japanese version and the USA ( besides many other markets ) gets the Japanese version. After making more enquiries I found that we pay the highest price and that is taking currency exchange rates in mind. I have now replaced the Makita Rotary with a new on the market and just as powerful Ryobi . Once my Makita Rotary comes back I will keep it as a back up for the better quality Ryobi. Many other tradies swear by their Makitas but looking at them, they are the japanese versions. Let us see what happens once they need to get replaced. To sum it up: 1. ridiculous repair times 2. inferior quality 3. no exchange 4. quality terrible at price 5. can't rely on them Leaving a tradie without tools for so long... good riddance Makita.

Bad Warranty – On the 3rd of September 2021 I replaced my ageing/broken garden power tools with the Makita 18V range. Disappointingly the Multi Function Powerhead broke at the lower shaft end where the attachments are inserted. It broke on only the 2nd time of use, with a totaI usage time of less than 1 hour. I have been waiting over two & a half months so far… Read more

for warranty repair & yesterday have been informed that the part required to fix the tool will not arrive until mid Jan 2022. That will mean over 4 months for repair.

I should not have to wait this long for a warranty replacement. Meanwhile the attachments to the Multi Function Powerhead; 2 of which I have not used at all; will end up having less than 8 months warranty.

I have called Makita twice & sent them an email 8 days ago with no response. In my view I should have been provided with a replacement part long before this without having to request this via email to which they have not responded.

Disgusted – I wish to raise awareness of Makita's 5yr. Ltd Warranty, warning Product Review readers & alert them of the demands imposed by Makita to qualify for an additional 2yr. wty. extension at the expense of their personal details. Having sourced the market for a cordless grass trimmer, we decided on a DUR189RM, as it suited our requirements, plus it… Read more

was a reputable company of long standing. A dominant factor included the 5yr. wty. registered on line. The item was purchased outright.

Following is a part extract of the Privacy Policy & is mandatory.

Name, gender, DOB, contact details>address, email, phone no, occupation, credit card & bank acct. details, user name & password, to name a few.

We were astonished!! Upon contacting Makita, were informed all areas need to be answered.

This information is conducive to identity fraud, handed over on a plate.

The following also applies, I agree to transfer of data outside Aust. ( this is not protected by Aust. Law) Third parties can be used to assist Makita's website & can be issued to related companies within Makita group.

By providing your personal info. you consent to the disclosure by us & to the storage & use of your personal info. outside of Aust. to countries where different privacy protection regime applies.

How many have bothered to read the Privacy Policy??

By failing to register online, the wty. is only 3yrs. We consider a 2 yr. additional wty. extsn. for submitting these personal details is insulting.

The ramifications of the above are concerning.

We had assembled the trimmer & it was unused. It was returned for a refund, the mgr. also agreed re our findings & equally disgusted.

Based on Makita's ethics, we will never purchase their products again.

1 star is a luxury they don't deserve.

Buyer beware.

Thanks for nothing – Purchased a Makita Mower which came with two 18V batteries and charger. After about 3 charges one of the batteries would not charge. I contacted Makita who told me to take the faulty battery to my closest Makita service centre which is about 90Kms away and in a Covid hotspot. Surely given the current climate a postage option should have been offered. Now I have a useless mower that I cannot do anything with until I can get to a service centre.

Makita UC4041A - Unfit for purpose – Today, 14th May 2021 I purchased a Makita UC4041A electric chainsaw to do light pruning in my garden. After 10 minutes of use, the chain tensioning system broke. Unfit for purpose. I took it back to the hardware store and they told me that they would have to send it back to Makita for "assessment". I asked how long that would take and was told… Read more

that they didn't know, it being dependent on how busy Makita is.

The chain is tensioned by a small plastic pin which fits through a hole in the chain bar. When a thumb wheel is turned, the pin moves back and forward. It is flimsy and has no hope of withstanding the forces exerted, during normal use.

I don't want the machine fixed, as it will only break again. I have wasted 120km of futile driving today, picking up the product and returning it to the hardware store. Half my day is gone and I have achieved nothing.

Any company who offers such rubbish on the market should be banned from bringing goods into Australia.
