Just bought a BHX2500 of maket place rather cheap , lookes great very little use it started immediately twice at sellers that was at 4pm after reading reviews thought I'd stay it when cold now 7:30pm and 1 pull and she's going . Happy as a PIS . Show details

4 Stroke is the way to go – Straight out of the box this blower is lighter than the 2 stroke blower it’s replacing. Read the instructions, attach the blower tube to the motor, fill with oil (normal auto engine oil if fine), and fill the tank with unleaded fuel and you’re right to go. to include the amount needed. I could not find this in the instruction manual. The bottle is marked with increments and holds about 100mL.

Right to go........you need to locate the carburettor primer bulb that hides towards the back of the engine under a plastic cowling. It’s location is not apparent, but found it after looking again in the instruction manual. Pump the bulb to get the fuel flowing to rime the carburettor.

The pull cord is short and light. Not as hard to start as my old 2 stroke blower ever was and the engine purrs to life. Firstly you’d notice that the engine is quiet. So out of the box to taming leaves took just under 15mins.

Right away leaves are being blown about with the motor just idling. A squeeze on the trigger and they’re flying out of the way to clear the pathway.

Markita have positioned the exhaust to face forward, away from the operator whereas other have it either on the back or side. With the exhaust located this way you can easily use the machine left or right handed. The STOP button is a little confusing with arrows facing forward and back - push the button forward to kill the motor.

A good buy and happy so far. This is the 2nd time I have purchased a Markita garden care product (also own their 4 stroke line trimmer - and happy with how easily it starts too).

Look after this product with regular maintenance like oil change every 10 times (recommended in the instruction manual) it’s used and keeping the fuel fresh and it will reward you with years of service.

feel a little heavy after a whole day's use. The cruise control switch is a brilliant feature. Brilliant blower nozzle design allows for greater control of the blown air when sweeping confined areas like courtyards etc... Lots of torque and air velocity mostly just above idle is enough to clean up leaves and grass clippings off concrete driveways.

I have this one for about a year it never missed a beat, and outstanding fuel economy on this one too.

Fantastic wouldn't swap it for any other blower, at least not yet. 4 Stroke, Easy to start, Reliable, Robust construction, Quiet, Good performance Used to smoke occasionally when engine was new, now it is perfect.

Very good so far (1years use so far) – Starts easy and blows quite hard. I’ve used for a small house and yard, and boy o boy it beats using a god dam friggin broom! Just hope it lasts at least 4 years or so. Long lasting quality products seems to be disappearing these days. Show details

Almost perfect for our needs – We bought this 4 stroke blower as we didn't want to mix 2 stroke petrol or get the battery version that is never charged when you need it. This was the perfect choice, packs a punch & cleans up in no time. Never a problem in the 4 years we've had it. The only downside is that it's quite heavy and Makita does not make a gutter cleaning extension so we have to use the sons battery one to do that Show details

Makita /blower vac – The only thing what let it down is the plastic vac hose if you leave it out in the garden for to long it will melt as its made in pome land but e verything else is bonza mate Show details

Terrible – Had issues since purchase with it cutting out full throttle even part throttle, took it to Makita returned worked until I put Petrol in again, yes it’s 4 Stroke and now back to cutting out, almost had enough, previous blower from Ryobi worked for 8 years no issues, will not buy another Makita petrol product.

Usela vacuum - no suction – Bought this for the vaccum. Easy to start but very unwieldy and cimbersome. Doesn't have any useful suction - just useless. Very big suction nozzle so probably why it is essentaiily useless - a smaller nozzle might have made it more effective. Show details

Ok until it breaks! – Blower was a normal blower and worked well until It died- lost spark and to get it fixed wasn’t worth it. Buy a better brand. Blower tubes are hard to get off if you need to swap to vac mode Show details

Complete junk – I have owned this blower for 3 years and it has been constant trouble. When it works it regularly runs rough and won't run at full throttle. It randomly refuses to start with no warning - once this has happened it is impossible to start. I have stripped the carby down and cleaned it 3 times now. When I do this it works for a while then stops again. It has just done it again - i'm going to be binning this and buying a stihl. Show details

Not impressed – Unit is relativly heavey and has just enough grunt to do the job. The quality of the tube segments is really poor for a Makita product. The fact the the intake fan is on the left means it can only be used left handed otherwise it sucks your clothing into the intake blocking off a lot of air flow. It also requires a lot of effort to control again a problem for right handed people. Does anyone do product testing and delevopment anymore or is it straight off the CAD to production?

Makita has dropped the ball – Purchased this 6 months ago from Bunnings, went to use it yesterday and noticed a fair bit of oil on shelf it sits on, it has also developed a miss and surge on acceleration. purchasing a sucking kit for this blower, however, I prefer blowing and then sweeping up into a bag if required as I find there is less dust created.

In coming from an Ozito petrol blower previously, this is certainly a good investment - However, one thing i miss is an added support handle on the side - this blower only has one at the top and non at the side which is helpful for more than 10-minutes of leaf blowing.

So Much for 4 stroke reliability – Bought this From Bunnings after a Bad Echo Experience. The first few months of ownership was a good experience. That However was short Lived as it Became increasingly Hard to Restart after a few minutes run time. The last time I Tried to use it from a Cold Start it Was Locked Solid. Won't start when hot – Started well the first time, as I used it more I couldn't get it started. Cleaned the spark plug and away she went. Now it works the first time I start it during the day, after that it's touch and go whether it'll start again that day. If I do nothing, it usually starts the next morning. Seems like I have to clean the spark plug each time I use it unless I give it time to "rest" in the shade.  Show details

Don't waste your money – Had this blower for a few years and maybe has done about 2 hours work? 1st issue was a leaky fuel pipe (see plastic hose) from fuel tank. This failed about 18 months from purchase Now the plastic priming bulb seems to pump fuel every where except into the carby. Great blower – Having researched a few since my old blower gave up the ghost, I came to like this Makita Blower. 4 stroke, easier to start and although quieter to run than the 2 stroke it has good blowing capability. A little bit heavier on the wrist than others but I only have to use it for about 8 - 10 minutes.  Show details

Leaking oil after 3 years – Was a good blower, now not worth repairing cheaper to buy a new one. Waste of $300. Never buying makita power garden range again. the moment, and this made short work of my large back yard. The only thing the service guy at the store warned me of is to take good care of your Makita - because while they are good products, the customer service is horrible should you need any help from them.

need to mix fuel. I do take care to avoid tilting it too much since it is a 4 stroke so I use my electric blowers for odd maneuvers. The priming bulb has started to leak so hopefully I can easily get a replacement soon as we are entering the peak of autumn leaf season.

Starts easy, every time! – Had mine for 2 years now, use it once a month for about 30 min at a time (usually at full noise & blow only, never tried it on Vac as there's too many gum nuts around that will probably wreck the impeller). I always drain the fuel before putting it away and put fresh stuff in it when I use it, never had a problem. Starts pretty much first or second pull every time! Heard somewhere the motors are made by Subaru? (Not confirmed).

Casing material is no good – I use mine exclusively in vac mode but not very frequently. It hasn't had a hard life. Outer casing cracked and sprayed macerated leaves all over the place. correspondence with Makita in Melbourne about the material the casing is made from being not fit for purpose. They weren't interested.

This is not reliable! – I had experience with two of these at work and they are terrible!!! When you first get it you think you got a great tool, starts easy and has grunt, but after a while the problems start, it just dies when you try to accelerate to full power, it doesn't have grunt anymore and struggles to start. That is even after a full carb service at a genuine service. Trash

Blown away – My last blower was my first and I thought it was handy. When I bought The Makita home though I realised what I'd been missing out on. I'm very impressed, Easy to assemble, easy to use. the pathway each week. U used to try and blow it away and would always resort to a bloom. No longer the Makita makes it a breeze what took 15 minutes now takes one. I strongly recommend that you spend the little extra and buy a Makita leaf blower, it's so worth it.

Oh and when setting it up make sure to have a good look at the parts so you don't end up returning it because you think there are parts missing. One of the brackets isn't that obvious as it is already fitted, and that is what the other reviewers are complaining about.

go . It blew white smoke that much it set the smoke alarms off inside the house !!! I knew the motor had self destructed so went back to buntings and they tried to sort the warranty through Makita. Bunnings were awesome but makita refused to honour the warranty saying i abused the machine although i was very careful to not thrash or overload it . Shame on Makita never touching their rubbish ever again !!!

Great reliable unit – I've owned mine about a year now. It has been very reliable, starting first or second pull every time. Very frugal with petrol, very quiet and has a great output. motor doesn't like stale fuel. Clogs up the carby. Using fresh fuel and cleaning the plugs plus adding a little carby cleaner solved the problem.) Reliable. Quiet. Powerful. Difficult to change oil.

Huge disappointment – I've owned mine for 22 months. I was attracted by the 4-stroke feature and the Makita brand, which I had thought was solid. Four months after the 12-month warranty expired, the starter cover assembly fell off (repair cost: $110 incl. labour). Six months later, it fell off again. Same story. expect a top quality build, but I don't expect Makita products to be as plasticky and flimsy as this (it's only been used in a domestic, not commercial, setting). Clearly they have gone down the quality curve to achieve a lower price point, but they've slid too far. I'd rather pay up for a Stihl, and intend to do so.
