Worst BBQ ever. You can't regulate the heat, its either high or high. Rang Matador and told them the issue, their reply was pretty much we don't know how to cook on a BBQ (we have 20+ years of experience). Took videos and pictures and sent to them - no reply and ignored us. Show details

Follow-up  · We ended up getting a new different brand BBQ. Matador didn't care and told us we don't know how to cook or use a BBQ. Worse BBQ and worse company to deal with

DO NOT BUY A MATADOR BBQ. THEY ARE VERY POOR QUALITY. We purchased the BBQ in December 2022 from Bunnings, replacing the BBQ that we had for over 20 years. We barely used the BBQ, bought the more expensive cover to protect it only to find that within 2 years the plates were rusted and unusable. 2 of the 3 plates were replaced after initially… Read more

being told that the plates were not covered under warranty. - The original grills rusted and were replaced in 2024. - The replacement parts have now also rusted, despite the BBQ being used infrequently, kept covered at all times, and being otherwise in excellent condition. I contacted the supplier and clearly and explicitly requested a refund and asked that replacement parts not be sent. That request was not acknowledged — parts were sent regardless.

I also specifically requested the parcel be recalled before it was delivered. That request was also ignored. The replacement parts have now arrived. We have not opened the parcel and do not intend to. We do not accept this as a resolution to our complaint. We asked that they arrange collection of the parcel at their cost and at a time convenient to us. They have ignored this request as in their mind the matter is resolved.

Their response attributes the rusting to insufficient oiling and moisture build-up, effectively placing responsibility on us as the consumer. We have followed reasonable care of the product. The fact that this is now the second occurrence of the same fault — affecting both the original and replacement parts — strongly suggests this is a product quality issue rather than a user maintenance issue.

They also characterised this as a "minor fault". A BBQ that cannot be used due to rusted cooking surfaces is not fit for purpose, and we do not consider the repeated failure of the same components to be minor, particularly given the limited use the BBQ has had.

They have not addressed the fact that the burners underneath are also rusted and that we do not want rust blowing onto our food.

I feel totally scammed with this purchase. I now have to spend a cr^p ton of money to purchase a new BBQ after only 9-10months...AND WE ALL KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE LIGE HAS BECOME they should all be recalled Constantly having issues with the gas coming… Read more

through 2 to 3 burners. I have owned bbqs all of my adult life and I am old af AND have never had this problem before. So many bad reviews yet I researched before I brought and found hardly a bad review insight yet after the purchase a long with instant problems BOOOOM ALL THE BAD REVIEWS CAME UP with the same problems. This company should be ashamed of themselves

Follow-up  · The same, how can I fix the gas flow, the gas just keeps cutting out on 2 of the burners.

This Matador was bought about 4 years ago and the date of manufacturer which is stuck onto the inside of the door is 15-04-2021 still within the 5 year warranty. The first I realized that there was bad rusting problem in the hot area was when a… Read more

burner feel down onto the drip tray because the bracket rusted away. After checking the problem I found that there was a lot of rust in this section, holes through the sheet metal. I have attached photos as this unit is ready for the dump and it is still in Warranty. Have contacted Bunnings and they will not do anything as I can not find the 4 year old receipt. Have sent photos to Pacific Gas & heating with no reply. Would not buy a Matador BBQ any model.

Follow-up  · I repaired all the rusted parts with stainless steel, ( took seven days to repair nilly ready for the dump) Pacific gas was kind enough to give me a new drip tray not much left of the old one and a thermostat. All up and running now we will see how long this repair lasts. The best Barby to buy is one that the hot area where the gas flames are is… Read more

I wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing – I wish I had the reviews before purchasing. A very poor excuse for a BBQ. Failed to get hot enough for charring, the plate was poor quality, but the biggest problem was the design fault with the oil capture drainage. It failed to capture 70% of the oil from the plate. I checked my assembly and I can guarantee I was correct. But all in very poor quality. Sold after 5 uses and lost a few hundred dollars.

Don’t buy Matador – The [Content Removed] BBQ and customer service I have ever had. Don’t buy!!!! I bought my supposed outdoor BBQ and the electrics stopped working as soon as it rained. I contacted Matador and they told me it was not made for external non undercover use. No where on the manual or the information brochure did it explain this. So they made a BBQ for Australian weather that must be undercover with no moisture. Dumb idiots. Show details

Poor Quality / Poor Service – Purchased a In BBQ Matador 4 Burner Edge from Bunnings as part of a Outdoor Kitchen Package (Alfresco Kitchen) has been installed within a covered outdoor kitchen area and a purpose built cover, covering it from all weather. It has always been cleaned and well looked after; however it is clear that this BBQ is not fit for purpose as within two… Read more

years it has rusted through to the point it needs to be replaced. When contacting Bunnings in regards to the claimed 5 year warranty I was pushed to Mayo Hardware that denied that the issue was with the BBQ but with me and how I used it. Its quite clear that Mayo Hardware and Bunnings don't recognize or understand that selling products that don't meet the stated purpose goes against consumer rights.

Costs more yet worse than a cheapy cheerful Jackaroo – I chose to purchase one of the more expensive BBQ's from Bunnings when shopping for a replacement. Unfortunately, the old adage that you got what you pay for didn't apply in this particular situation. I should have known I'd chosen poorly when I unpacked it to find the lid was dented and pushed in on the hood handle and the door hinge was bent… Read more

(I'm guessing wither damaged in transit or in storage at bunnings).

Since then, I have had multiple issues with getting the BBQ to ignite and also give even heat distribution. Eventually, after not even lighting manually using a lighter (the ignition stopped working completely within 3 months of purchasing), i opted to take it upon myself to remove the gas line and head to bunnings for a replacement.

I asked the staff member if this would be covered under warranty as the BBQ was under 12 months old, however I was told that the Matador warranty only covered 'Missing Parts'?!?!?! (she asked if the BBQ had ever worked to which I replied "it used to". Her response - "Oh in that case its faulty so the warranty doesn't cover that"?!?!).

Anyway, I purchased a replacement at $50+ and fitted the new one. Thankfully, this solved the problem for a few weeks but unfortunately I'm back to square one and this absolutely waste of money BBQ is back to not igniting!

Probably worth adding it has been stored permanently undercover in our alfresco so they cant blame the elements.

Avoid at all costs

Planned Obsolescence – They stop manufacturing replacement parts after a few years. So when you need to replace a part, you need to replace the whole BBQ

Worst bbq I've owned – This would have to be the worst bbq I have ever owned .I bought this after my old Matador was worn out. The new build quality and uneven cooking on hot plates is deplorable. Why has this product gone so bad in such a short time. Going to replace it after 3 months of owning

Absolutely terrible quality – So we bought this barbecue from Bunning in 2023….5 year Warranty and we started noticing the clear film start to peel slowly so we got in touch with The Garth Group and explained the situation told them it always was covered by a Genuine Matador Cover and always looked after the only thing we used on it was the Bunnings Barbedue wipes on the grill… Read more

plates……they took all this info and came back with this because you did not use the recommended steel cleaner it voids the warranty……really how the hell does using barbecue wipe to clean the grill have any effect of the outside of the hood or the doors below … or am I just stupid…..I told them it had been used perhaps at most a dozen times an intelligent person would then think there was no need to clean the outside as when not in use it was under the Genuine Matador Cover……I really think that The Garth Group are not reasonable sellers of the Matadors Barbecue Range….would I ever buy anything that THE GARTH GROUP SELL…….hell NO a big no would I recommend their barbecue NO……now in saying all the above the Conquest Barbecue is poorly designed in general for $799 the grates are all cheap cast and instead of the fat running down to the fat tray it sits in the inverted cast grill plates and the fat burns also the regulator is absolute garbage hardly cooked a sausage to a crisp state…..so in order to work like it should we changed the grill plates to enamel and changed the regulator……so buyer beware not a good barbecue to own……..

Rubbish, don't buy one! – Warning!!! If you buy a Matador Bbq, although they say it has a 5 yeas warranty, it doesn't. Bare in mind that my Bbq was always kept under cover, under a roof within the bar area and was never left outside and never left in the rain, and was always cleaned after use. Within the first 2 years, the burners rusted out, the screws holding the burner… Read more

in place were also rusted out, the shelf that supported the burner, as well as the channels that would funnel the gas to the next burner just fell apart. I emailed to Matador and sent them photos. They just put it down to being my fault due to lack of maintenance and closed the case. I bought 2 new burners and replaced them. Another year has past and now another 2 burner and the whole shelf the burner sit on have rusted out, all the flame tamers plus most of the knobs on the front to turn the gas on/off just spins around meaning they were can't turn the gas on and now have to pull the knobs off and use pliers to turn them. The bottom tray catcher has rusted out and now has gaping holes. Bare in mind that nobody sells any spare parts like the bottom tray and flame tamers, only burners. Do yourself a favour and buy something else, that's what I'm going to do! Hope this helps!

Average but manageable – Treated myself to new BBQ from Bunnings. Went for Matador on the expectation it was better value for money than the cheaper models. Eay enough to put together and use. Uneven heating and prone to overheating. Took me a while get use to it. Strongly advise a cover and cleaning after use. Show details

Such a disappointment – This BBQ looks great but the plates rusted from the very first use. Impossible to keep them rust free. Also the outside surface looks like it's all stained and it's only from the rain. Just disgraceful. So, so disappointed. Would not recommend to anyone. Show details

Waste of money! – Doesn’t even deserve one star. The knobs melted on the inside after the FIRST use. Wish I had read the reviews before we wasted $800! Customer care tried to blame it on us for “movement of the burners in transit on our way home which causes flame out”. Totally false as each burner is riveted in. Show details

Good average bbq – Have owned for 2.5 years now, protected by a Matador bbq cover from the elements. Good average bbq. Step up from the Jumbuck brand for sure. Have used id say approx 100 times. Worth the money. Look after it with cover you will get at least 7-8 years from it. Maybe longer. Mine still looks new.

TERRIBLE WARRANTY! – If you're looking for a reliable BBQ with a warranty that can be relied on for faulty parts, then don't buy this BBQ. available information we determine that the root cause of the reported deterioration to cross lighter and burners is a direct result of lack of reasonable steps taken regarding care and maintenance. The corrosion would not have occurred if precautionary steps had been done as directed in the attached page of the Product Manual." This bbq was used a maximum of 15 times over the past 2 years. And it was the top of the range $899 BBQ, upsold with accessories by the Bunnings Team. Below is a video demonstrating the burners from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c1Yrr1HOFU I've had positive experiences with Bunnings in the past regarding faulty products and parts, with never a problem or poor customer experience such as this one. Do yourself a favour and peace of mind. Buy another brand.

First use and can’t use it again – Followed all the instructions, it was very easy to put together. Oiled and cured and ready to use. Turned it on for the 5 minute warm up, this ended up melting the knobs, my son who was about to cook ended up with a burnt finger trying to turn it off, the front of the bbq was so hot and all the knobs melted we had to use the tongs to turn it off. Such a shame it was over $700 and it was a present for my husband. Show details

Great bbq with a few flaws – I read the 2 previous reviews and mine had a ding and the plates do rust fast and mine is oiled and undercover The pros, it's very powerful and cooks great, a few uneven patches but all BBQs have that. Terrible – Went to Bunnings to purchase a Jumbuck barbecue and thought the Matador was a more solid unit. Out of the box it had two dings in it which I was prepared to live with as I had spent so long putting it together. First use the plate buckled when I increased the heat for steaks. Terrible.
