don’t bother because, you have to send it to an overpriced “repair shop” for them to replace the same parts you can do in 5min but charge a premium for the pleasure.

Cleans well however… – Does the most important thing well and cleans the whole pool spotlessly including the waterline and has been doing so for 6 months. After 20 years of suction cleaning now my pool is perfect! – I have heavy leaf and dust drop from overhanging trees. Previous suction cleaners and manual vacuuming were ineffective and laborious. Now in two hours per day my pool is kept clear of debris apart from some sticks which I can easily scoop up. The pool has never looked so good and cleaning never been so easy. Barely functional, regularly breaks down, no smart integration – I've had this robot for about two years now. registered that with Maytronics, so according to Maytronics I never bought extended warranty.

When I originally purchased this unit, I was promised that it would integrate with my smart home platform. There is no such integration. Further to this, the unit regularly disconnects from the wireless and needs to be restarted. I know Maytronics will blame the signal strength, but I know the signal is good and other wireless devices in the same area do not have connectivity issues.

The robot regularly breaks down and I have to disassemble it to remove usually a couple of hairs and a leaf from the impeller. I don't understand why the filter basket doesn't capture this, but obviously it doesn't catch everything.

And, the unit tangles up its cord all the time. I have to disconnect the cord from the power supply, walk it out, and unwind the loops on a near weekly basis. I'm never buying another robot that doesn't have a swivel cord.

As far as cleaning capability goes, it's mostly adequate. It's not great with small ledges or steps, and although I have a fairly simple pool shape, there's nearly always a couple of spots down the deep end that it manages to miss.

areas of the pool. I've pulled the cord out of the pool and untangled it, and then left it in the sun for a few days, as per the instruction manual. When I put the cleaner back in the pool the cord goes back into the original knots. There doesn't seem to be any way to stop it knotting again. The swivel that is in this model doesn't seem to be doing it's job. My sister bought one at the same time as I did, and she is having the exact same trouble with it. In fact it won't clean the deep end of her pool anymore, so she has resorted to using her old Haywood instead. If you are thinking of buying one of these, I would reconsider until this problem is rectified.

my pool equipment to buy the X40 over buying another Polaris, even though he did not sell them and thus had not ulterior motive for providing this advice. Thus I am comparing my experience with these two pool cleaners.

I have a small pool and it does not normally get large amounts of leaves and debris and thus falls well within the supposed capabilities of the X40 Plus.

Where the X40 Plus is superior to the 3900 Sport is its ability to filter and remove very fine particles due to its filtration system. However, when compared to the 3900, it is inferior in a few areas:- 1. Namely the size of the leaf capture container is a lot smaller than the bag on the Polaris meaning it has to be cleared out much more often, which can be an issue if you happen to go away for more than a week. Where the Polaris would suck up twigs and larger leaves without any issue, the X40 Plus is unable to, meaning they stay on the pool floor and require manual removal. 2. Lead Tangling - others have mentioned this issue and I concur. This occurs despite following the instruction manual and advice on how to detangle the lead on a regular basis. It is a very frustrating design flaw. 3. more it tends to avoid cleaning the corners of the pool despite reading the troubleshooting section in the manual to try and work out why.

Overall, so far it has been a more labour intensive and frustrating experience to own this pool cleaner than the Polaris. The Polaris overall was a set and forget type cleaner which only required removal of debris from its bag once every couple of weeks.

Although its ability to filter out finer particles is great, the X40 falls down is other areas where you would expect it should match the Polaris.

Think very carefully before you buy this cleaner.

Useless for large litter and cable tangle is unacceptable – The X40 Plus is good for fine particle cleaning but very poor with large leaves and is useless with larger pieces of bark and twigs which block the throat of the basket almost immediately. diagrams are intended to mean and absolutely no explanation of the control panel functions. For the relatively high cost I'd advise against purchasing this cleaner, especially for those who get plenty of leaf litter blown into their pools.

Great if the cable didn't tangle – My experiences is pretty spot on as the previous review, the cleaner would be great if it didn't constantly tangle itself. For the first couple of months i had no issues, I followed the instruction where the manual indicates to regularly lay the cord out in the sun. But this seems to make no difference, agree with the other reviewer, very poorly engineered. Save your $$$$$ and consider other options. Show details
