Be ready for it to be slowly die, keep your receipt – Terrible. Bought for my partner, been using for less than a year and have already had to replace both bottles and breast shields, the pump is dying, poor suction, battery is almost completely dud, pump head leaks. I emailed about it and was told they could do nothing without proof of purchase, sorry I expected it to last at least a year and didn't keep the receipt. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Show details
Great – I am very happy with the double swing Maxi. I used it for my first child and rebought for my second. The usb charging is a great upgrade. I use it mostly at home in the same area so I cant comment about it being portable. Show details
Awful - DO NOT BUY – If you check reviews you will see that a lot of people have had issues with the battery. I am no exception. Luckily my first pump died within 2 weeks and it was easy to demonstrate to the people at Baby Bunting that it wasn’t working. The replacement pump thankfully is still operational, but just barely. The suction is inconsistent which has… Read more
affected my supply. The suction is blistering my nipples but the pump has been much less effective than a previous pump I was using.
Sometimes the pump decides to work, sometimes it doesn’t. Every use I need to plug and unplug the tubes several times to ensure it’s still working. I wish I had never bought this pump.
As someone who already is an under-supplier, a crappy pump is the last thing I need adding to my pile of problems. I’ve also had my Medela flex flanges crack within 2 months. My opinion of Medela is not great.

Essential for us – My partner found this to be a great product, even if it is a bit expensive. Not every mum can get her new baby to latch on or understand what the breast is for. Not every mum can get milk to flow like a tap, even after the midwives tell her to 'just keep trying.' This pump helped us immensely. The double pump meant she could fill two bottles in… Read more · 1
20 minutes. A single pump would have meant sitting there twice as long. Thanks to this our baby got all the goodness he needed faster. My wifes heavy breasts full of milk got sore if they weren't emptied naturally or otherwise, so the pump helped in this way too. She said it was comfortable and easy to use and cleans easily enough. We're going to need it again for sure if we have another baby.
Don't waste your time – This is easily the worst breast pump I have ever used. I bought this pump under the assumption that it would save me time. If anything it has actually increased the time I have spent pumping. The air tube is constantly malfunctioning - Breast milk is always leaking into there and I spend the majority of my pumping time trying to rectify this. One… Read more
of the reasons why I pump is to increase my supply, so to see milk leaking into the air tube is incredibly frustrating. Also having to clean the air tube to get the milk out is an absolute pain and only adds to more time being wasted.
I also find that at times the suction isn’t strong enough. There have been many instances where I’ve have to hold the pump in place in order to ensure that my breasts are fully emptied (This makes the concept of the pump being hands free entirely pointless).
I contacted customer service regarding these issues, (whom to their credit, responded quite promptly). They advised that they could provide new connectors in order to rectify the suction and leaking issues or I could try and request a refund from the seller. I opted for the latter for 2 reasons:
1. Given the below reviews, the new connectors don’t seem to solve the problem. Also, from my experience the issue isn’t the connectors - it’s the poor make and design of the product. 2. I am a new mother, I am short on time as is and I don’t have the capacity to wait around for replacement parts I’ve now reverted back to using my old tommee tipee pump. Which despite being a single pump, is still quicker and easier to use than the medela swing maxi.
Given how expensive the pump was (I paid $268), I am now in the midst of trying to organise a refund in the hope that I’ll get my money back. I would most definitely not recommend this product to expectant mothers.

I love it! – I used the Medela symphony at the hospital which is why I bought this one. Whilst the suction isn’t as strong at the hospital pump which needs to be plugged in to use… it was perfect for me and so easy during the night to grab and use in bed. I used it through one pregnancy and my sister is using it now. The battery has lasted fine. I bought mine baby bunting in Australia Show details · 1
Definitely what I needed – Comfortable and easy to use although, the battery life is poor. It is averaging out to take 20% each pumping session which to me seems not worth the money I paid for it. Also, I cannot find spare parts to buy for it anywhere. Other than that, I love it. Show details · 1
Excellent! – The pump works well and is easy to use. I love that all the parts are separate and easily washable and sterilised. Have used this pump for 2 babies over the last 7 years and its still going strong. Accessories are easy to buy and with adaptors you can express directly into any brand bottle or milk storage container. Definitely would recommend! Show details · 1

Disappointing – Initially loved this pump- so easy to use and comfortable but it has stopped working after minimal use and when I called customer service all they could offer was to try new connectors which I already had and didn’t fix the issue ( lack of suction). For something that is not cheap I would have expected it to last for much longer than a couple of weeks of use. Very disappointing
Devastated - almost ending my expressing journey :( – Absolutely devastated - an emotional nicu mum this pump started off amazing. One week in the pump was readily loosing suction and making inconsistent pumping noises. After 3 weeks the pump is unusable unless constantly plugged in, even then it’s making inconsistent sucks. I emailed medela who advised me it’s out of their hands and to email the… Read more
seller for warranty. Under Australian consumer law this is classed as a major fault and means the customer can choose a refund. I need a refund asap to buy another pump - I don’t have the money to go get another one. It’s now been 3 days, the original seller hasn’t gotten back to me and medela has washed their hands EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT THIS IS A COMMON FAULT AND CANT BE FIXED and needs a replacement.
I need a pump ASAP, I need a refund or a new one posted out. Once again as a nicu mum I have no time to get to the post office and it’s a very devastating journey. Thanks a lot medela I’ll never buy through you again and have told everyone about my experience.
Not good for double pumping – This pump is fine if used on just one breast but if you’re thinking about double pumping don’t bother. This isn’t one that’s going to be of any use returning to work or regular pumping needs. More for casually building a freezer stash rather than a steady workhorse pump. Definitely not worth the price. Show details

Having issues – I’ve used the pump a few times and it keeps now turning off while I pump. I keep having to turn it back on.
Medela Swing Maxi Double Electric Pump – I bought this pump on the strength of the Medela Symphony pumps I used in the hospital and hired from the chemist in the weeks after delivery. Unfortunately they are not the least bit similar in my experience. Yes the Swing machine works and I was able to pump milk with it for several months, however not as much or as quickly as I would get with… Read more
the Symphony - still true at the 9 month point when I hired the Symphony again out of frustration/curiosity. The main 'pro' of the Swing for me was the wireless portability - it was much more convenient than having to sit still near a power outlet for the Symphony. The main 'con' of the Swing was that it's functions were very limited - there was really just the stimulation function (fast) and the main pumping function (slower) with intensity levels being the only variation to these. It also felt more like a surface level buzzing sensation rather than any deep suction. By comparison, both the Symphony and another Tommee Tippee pump I have go through more variations than this and feel like a deeper type of suction which elicited a better response for me.

Don’t waste your precious maternity leave money! – Do not waste your money on this pump. I wish I looked at more reviews of this pump before purchasing it as I’ve since seen several reviews reporting similar problems. I bought this pump a bit over two months ago because I was pumping a lot with my second hand old model medela swing pump that I was given by a work colleague after she used it when… Read more
she had her two children. I love that one so I thought I’d make the investment and buy the double of the new model to save time because having a new baby as I’m sure everyone knows is very time consuming. Saving time by pumping both breasts at once seemed like a great idea. However, within a few uses I was finding that the milk was building up in the top part of the device and losing suction. So I’d end up having to use my old pump anyway which had previously been used for two other children but somehow still worked better than this new model design. Attempted to problem solve by ensuring all the parts were completely dry (as suggested by medela costumer service) and when that didn’t work I replaced the connectors which cost me $35 which was also suggested by Medela despite me telling them the pump was new and hardly used which made only a very temporary improvement. Attempted to return to baby bunting and they proceeded to test the pump on some rubber breasts and told me the pump is in fine working order. When I was unhappy with this response they agreed to send back to Medela for testing (only after calling medela in store with the baby bunting employee because the didn’t want to send it off for testing). When I questioned how a pump that’s clogging up with milk and losing suction can be tested on a rubber breast with no milk flow the reply from baby bunting was that’s how Medela tests all their pumps. Just received a call from baby bunting to say Medela have returned the pump after testing and it’s in perfect working condition. So in conclusion, the pump sucks only in quality and not in theory. Nearly in tears thinking about $335 of my maternity leave down the drain and absolutely nothing to show for it as Medela and baby bunting are both refusing to provide me with a replacement pump or a refund. I have literally never left a bad review on anything before because I like to give the benefit of the doubt but I’m so beyond disappointed with the attitude of both Medela and baby bunting that I feel that I needed to warn other new mums to avoid the wasted money and disappointment.

Good luck – My partner borrowed a pump from my sister and used it for 6 weeks then the suction failed and had to use it as a single pump until it completely failed. Just buy formula instead! – I bought this breast pump to feed my premature baby. It was the worst purchase I’d ever bought. For starters the suction when using it as a double pump it was so poor my dyson vacuum cleaner would have done a better job. Secondly I’d have to bend over at a 45 degree angle just so the milk would not spill out the sides. This hurt after having an… Read more

Save your money – Baby was born at 26 weeks, so I needed a good pump, as I exclusively pumped for 16 weeks before baby came home, every 3 hours. Several times a day, often at 3am when I was tiredest, the pump would catch all the milk in the head of pump, not altering or to drop into bottle. Upon separating pump from bottle, all the milk would spoil out onto… Read more

If I could give it zero stars I would – This pump is a complete waste of money. I wish I had of read more reviews before purchasing. Unreliable and poor customer service – The connectors kept popping open, I was told my connectors were faulty but one of my replacement ones still does the same. It is really disappointing! – I bought Swing maxi breast pump when my first son was born. After a while, it was not expressing milk. I sent it back for check and i was told the motor is faulty. Invaluable device – I have found the medela swing maxi to be so simple to use and effective. I love I can use batteries and walk around while pumping. It’s a relatively quiet pump and is not too big. Highly recommend in conjunction with other medela products. Show details · 1
Don’t waste your money – The pump parts needs to be completely dry before it will provide any suction whatsoever. The motor doesn’t seem to have enough power to fully empty my breasts in a reasonable amount of time. Save your money and buy a hospital grade pump. The only upside of this pump is that it’s portable but that is negated by the need to remain completely still or the flanges become loose and the parts fall off your breast. Show details

Can't live without – Excellent customer service from medela. Esp when parts are broken / faulty, they send out one immediately with express post! Often for free. My first pump broke after 2.5 years! Love this double pump. Fast and efficient. Reasonably good suction and works for me.
Can also buy USB connector and connect to power bank / car port and pump on the go.
Good to buy when chemist warehouse has sale. Often can price beat.
DO NOT BUY THIS PUMP!!! – I purchased this pump as my baby was not latching properly, so I was expressing milk for every feed. I bought the pump from a local baby store that charged me $450, which is excessive as Baby Bunting sell them for around $300 mark. The pump lasted less than a week before the suction failed on one side then a day or so later it began to fail on the… Read more
other side. They parts were not connecting properly after I pulled them apart to clean them. I checked the manual and followed all the instructions but it still does not work properly. Also for the few days that the pump actually worked I found its performance to be mediocre at best and the pump was extremely loud. When I took the pump back to where I purchased it, they contacted Medela then refused to give me a refund and gave me one replacement part which has been useless.
I have been so upset and in tears over this pump as it prevented me from being able to feed my baby. I nearly lost my milk supply because of this pump and it is the reason I have had to take medication to re-establish my supply, which I had no issue with prior to using this pump.
As I live rural I was unable to purchase another pump as no where else sells them where I live and the post is extremely slow often taking three plus weeks for anything to be delivered from anywhere.
I ended up spending over $400 hiring a hospital grade pump through a wonderful local support service for mothers and babies.
I will be contacting consumer affairs in regards to this product as I believe I am entitled to a refund as the product failed and if I had known of the poor quality and issues with this pump I never would have bought it.

I wish I had gone through the reviews – Bought this in feb2020 right after delivery from baby bunting, but this pump is frustrating. So unhappy I am actually crying – I will admit that it started off great but the multiple attachments were always annoying. Then it went downhill. spending the first 20 minutes trying to even get the suction right. I’ve gone out of my way to leave this review to hopefully save any new Mums looking to buy this product. DON’T. It needs to be held tightly to seal. It’s just a joke for what you pay and it hasn’t even made it to 1 year old before falling apart. And the amount of attachments is ridiculous. I highly suggest to NEVER by this overpriced poorly made breast pump.

Poor suction, poor pump, Waste of money – I’ve been using this pumps for 6 months now (pumping 6-8 times daily) and wish from the beginning I had gottten another pump. in hopes of getting a stronger suction. And don’t waste your money on replacement parts. The connectors are overpriced and they are worse than the original parts that came with the machine. Again, lots of leaks and therefore poor suction. There have been plenty of times where I felt like my breasts were never completely emptied. This pump always leave me frustrated so I’ve thrown in the towel and have bought a different brand.

Good and does the job – Bought this as I heard good things about Medella. And used a similar medella one in the hospital after giving birth. Have only used it a few times as a double pump (with a pumping bra otherwise it is impossible to hold). But still use it at least once a day as a single pump. It does the job well. And haven’t had any issues. Show details · 1
You mean ‘Maxi’ stress using this – I would not recommend this pump. It’s very temperamental and has caused me a lot of stress using it. For the most part it’s been pretty good, but it’s very unpredictable when it might not work. I’ve had to replace parts as well. Sometimes mid-pump I’ve had to take it apart and put it back together for it to work. I wish I had bought a Spectra. I let my pregnant friends know to buy Spectra. Show details

pretty good pump – i only use this a few times as I mainly feed from breasts directly, but pumped when i felt i needed to release from full/engorged breasts. they are pretty effective and easy to use. however it is very tiring pumping as i had to use my two hands to hold the pumps manually and i didnt have any free hand and couldnt do anything. i dont enjoy the pumping experience. but great that i could pump from both breasts at once.
