Bad experience – 4 bed house with garage/workshop - short distance less than 10 Klms I had a mixed experience with these movers, I used them roughly a year ago (didn't want to review straight away as I wanted the review to be fair and not clouded by my annoyance. They arrived late which was awkward as I had to put my pup in day care. The move started really well,… Read more
very small truck for a 3 bed and garage/workshop, but had arranged 3 trips as I advised there was alot of stuff to move. The movers knew that 3 trips had been arranged. They did the first trip, we were only moving a few Klms fine. Were putting the second load on the truck and suddenly I started getting comments of "you could take this in your ute or your car" and it just went down hill from there, apparently half way through loading the truck they said we cant load anymore we have to go to do another move for someone else, I was no you need to finish the job I hired you for, they were adamant that they had to go, so I rang their office and yeah they were booked for another move , so not happy with that I managed to arrange for them to come back the next afternoon to do the third load. The second load goes to the new house and seriously just gets dumped in any way and any where they could, go to pay them for the work done and get hit with a $45.00 extra charge for heavy items, I could move all of the items. Next day late again, one gent was the same as day before and one gent new, they start loading up and very quickly it was you can take that in your vechicle and with the truck only 3/4 full the new guy just says not putting anything else in my truck , I asked him to atleast put the draws and shelves they had pulled out of everything into the truck so I could unpack, a couple went in, got to the house with the load and another just dump and then the new guy tried to overcharge me by saying it is weekend rates cause it was a friday arvo. So I was left with draws and shelves and numerous things to try to get to the new house a 59 year old woman with chronic health conditions and no muscle mass and a 69 year old man with a heart condition

Horrible service. Late and damaged the property – Moved a one bedroom from a house to an apartment. It was a short journey. I booked the move weeks in advance and the night before I received a text saying they would be two hours late. I asked them if they could come sooner and I was told they would text me in the morning. I received no communication in the morning and couldn’t reach the driver.… Read more
The removalists were over two and a half hours late to arrive. Then during the move, they caused extensive damage to the floor of the apartment. Horrible service. Would never recommend nor ever use again.

Fantastic service, highly recommended! – I had to move my 2 bedroom unit to another house about 60-70 km from East to West Melbourne. I found the boys to be very friendly, efficient and professional movers. I was also pleasantly surprised by how quickly and hence cost effectively it was done. They also had an onsite CC payment option. The only complaint I have is that, on the day, just… Read more
2 hours before the scheduled pick-up time, they informed me that the truck was postponed by another 2 hours. It was a bit annoying since I had already packed my house so there was hardly any place to sit. However, they arrived sharp on the updated time. I also spoke to Preetpal, presumably the manager, that I was concerned that now I will hit peak evening traffic, but he was more than happy to charge a flat very reasonable rate for travel to compensate. I would recommend them to anyone and if I need movers again, I'll call them.
100% would recommend – We had Devin and Kulvir come out to help us move and they were excellent. They moved quickly, put everything where we asked them to and were extremely safe with the furniture and floorboards. Would 100% recommend and I’ll be moving with them again.
Great Service! – They called to say they were going to be 2 hours early, which was great! They took a lot of care moving all of my items and I know it’s on a per hour basis but they moved everything in great time. Overall a great removal company and I highly recommend.. the movers I had were great! Thanks again

DISGUSTING SERVICE – Very disappointed took way to slow and i had extra help moving items down from the stairs plus, to finish quickly and 1 mover person was a young boy not a man and was driving way to slow as following me to the new address, paid extra for nothing, don't recommend! Plus wasn't given a receipt of payment! And still waiting for them to send via email. Show details
Very disappointing – [name removed] and [name removed] were professional and innovative with sorting out a difficult stairway using an alternate aerial pathway to get my furniture inside! However when they moved my fridge, they damaged the wall of the stairs. After they left a couple days later, I set out my dining chairs, and noticed one chair leg was broken. I… Read more
contacted the manager [name removed]. I sent photos, and he said he will speak to the boys. Today he emailed me to say the boys denied that they caused any new damage to the wall, and did not break my chair. What else are they going to say ???? It's very disappointing having dishonest people moving your stuff. Lesson learnt! Melbourne City movers, shame on you, and you will not be receiving any further business from me or my friends! Anyone that read this, use them at your own risk! I should have checked out reviews before booking them....
Expensive and unprofessional – I chose Melbourne City Movers as they claimed to be experts in moving from city to country areas. I had items in two locations including a very heavy piano and was moving from Melbourne to Ballarat. An hour before the move they change the start location and the start time three times. By this stage they were on a one star rating. They worked hard… Read more
at the first location and managed to get the piano in despite not having the right equipment. Moved up to to a three. Then they broke things at the destination, charged three hours extra above what was worked and a 3% surcharge and slipped back down to a one. They get an extra star for moving the piano. Ended up costing me $2300. Do more research and find someone else.
Pros:
- Removalist were quite nice and worked hard
- They managed to move the piano
Cons:
- No communication between removalists and booking service. They were not told of the two locations prior to date of move and were not told about the piano at all despite me mentioning it multiple times.
- Move location changed an hour before they were due to arrive and I was unable to get there. Had to arrange for someone else to meet them and organise move.
- Time of move change three times and they still arrived half an hour late of the third change.
- Did not have the correct equipment for moving the piano despite company having that equipment as they were not told this was required. This added at least an hour to the move and risked the health of the removalists.
- Removalists did not speak English well, which is fine unless you work in an English speaking country and need to communicate with your clients. Had to repeat instructions on where to put things multiple times and eventually gave up and just spent the next day moving things to the right room.
- Two items broken in move, one had already been put in the house and broken by removalist playing with it. No apologies for either. They refused to even acknowledge the second, even though three of us saw the guy bang the box into the top of the shed as I had moved it inside when I realised there were fragile things in it, and they said they hadn't put anything in that room so it hadn't been them.
- Charged me three hours on top of hours done as they claimed it took that long to get back to Melbourne. It is less than two hours to get from Ballarat to anywhere in Melbourne despite having already charged $200 for travel time to a rural destination. Would have let two hours pass but three was pushing it.
- Charged three percent surcharge on a mastercard payment even though it only cost the bank $5 max to process so either they have a bad deal with the bank or are skimming the profits. Either way I was being ripped off.
In summary, expensive and unprofessional. You can do better.

Very satisfactory experience – I had a very smooth and satisfactory experience with Melbourne City Movers. They communicated well. I dealt with Gil and Sam. The booking quote was well below the other company I considered. I was provided a 6 tonne truck and 2 people. They arrived on time and worked very efficiently to move a 3 bed, 2 bath house. It took 4 hours exactly. They… Read more
were courteous, pleasant and fast. They even attached the washing machine and a dryer in my new place despite problems with small openings inside the bottom of the cabinetry and tricky hookups. All in all I recommend highly.
Great Quality Service – The team were great from time of booking to completion of the move. The guys took great care with my belongings, were polite, friendly and well mannered. I didn’t have anyone to help me with this move so I really appreciated their professionalism. They did not try and over charge me either.
Cannot fault them – I read all the reviews before I decided to go with Melbourne City Movers. I must admit, I was a bit concerned after reading the 1 and 2 star comments. I was comparing the 2 companies that could move me when I wanted to, in 2 days time. I decided to go with this mob, despite my concern, but I was concerned for nothing. They arrived on time,… Read more
took good care with loading and unloading by belongings, worked well and were pleasant enough. From my experience, I certainly don't have anything to complain about and I would definately give them another go if I needed to. Job well done guys. I really appreciate your service. Keep it up. Sincere thanks.
On time and professional movers! – We were moving from a 2 bedroom apartment - Melbourne City Movers were on time, so careful with all our things, quick to load and unload. The boys were polite and the communication with Gill was exceptionally prompt and clear.
Excellent service, quality professional men! – Friday 7th February 2020 MELBOURNE Carlton to South Yarra If your wanting a professional service We had two incredible young removal men called Dushant and Manpreet move our new furniture from a retail space to our home. Very Good - Guys worked really hard - and I had a first story apartment with lots of stairs! – Big move - full house of furniture and heavy stuff included - the guys were late from a previous job - however rang early and told me - then kept me up with their movements and time of arrival. They worked so hard - given the stair issue - went the extra mile & charged me correctly - I have moved many many times - best price and service so far - special thanks to Inder & Karen - my movers - and will call them again when I need to move!.
Great service from beginning to end – We moved a theee bedroom house over a short distance. Gill coordinated the details and was professional and very communicative from beginning to end. The removal team arrived exactly on time, worked extremely hard and efficiently, took great care with our furniture and were very polite and professional. I have no hesitation recommending Melb City Movers and will use them again myself.
Guys did a great job – 2 men moved a 2 bedroom unit with a garage half full of stuff, to a 3 bedroom, 2-storey. New house only ten minutes away and the guys had the job done in 4 hours. They worked really hard and smart and the cost was very reasonable. I would definitely hire again.
Melbourne City Movers - very happy with the service – We had a bedroom suite moved from one side of town to the other. We were very happy with the good service provided. The boys handled everything with care, were very polite and did a great job.
Good job done for our move! – We were very happy with the move for our 3 bedroom home across Melbourne. The Melbourne City Movers Team arrived on the dot, were very polite and super efficient and was less time than we expected overall. Really good job.
Excellent movers – I had to book the lift in my building so was stressing about the movers coming late, however Melbourne City movers arrived right on time. They were quick and efficient, and took great care in covering our furniture to ensure nothing was damaged. We accidentally left our building key with one of the movers and he kindly went out of his way that… Read more

Great for short notice move – I contacted Gill the day before my move, having had to cancel two other removal companies due to their inability to provide the stringent paperwork that my Building Manager running the apartment complex required for my move out. He understood my issue and was able to get back to me within a couple of hours emailing me the paperwork and arrange for… Read more
the removal the following day.
The move was only a one bedroom apartment but it was more like a large 2-bedroom move involving lift usage and managing the move out via a basement carpark. There was also 3 additional pickup locations to grab cupboards and furniture purchased and the boys managed to get to each location quickly and without fuss or additional cost apart from their hourly rate, which in itself is very competitive.
On the day they were only 10 minutes late and gave me a courtesy call to let me know which was appreciated. They took good care of all the goods and manage to use every square inch of the 4-tonne truck to get the 6 hour job done on what was a warm 27 degree Melbourne day.
I would definitely recommend them.
Good service – Melbourne City Movers assisted with my move from 2 bed unit, Kew to 3 bed house, Doncaster. Only took 2.5hrs. Staff were extremely professional, very careful when handling the furniture, and super speedy! My partner and I were very impressed. We definitely will be recommending this company in the future.
Highly recommend! – Very happy with my recent move through Melbourne City Movers from Prahran to Richmond. Excellent service from the beginning, even when I changed the time three times trying to time lift bookings! The two movers I had were great at their job, very careful when moving large items through narrow hallways and difficult corners. Cheaper than any other company I could find, would recommend to anyone!

Excellent service – I recently used Melbourne City Movers, to move me from Melton to Glen Waverley. They were highly recommended by a friend of mine, and I must say I was not disappointed. I was a bit worried but the guys Raf and Harry did an amazing job. They took good care of my furniture and were very polite. I had heavy furniture which had to go upstairs and they did it very well. Will definitely use them again.
Perfect move – The boys were very professional, moved everything in quick time. Protected everything as much as possible and were very polite. High recommended and will definitely use them again. Gill and Sam were very helpful and there was no extra charge for rescheduling at the last minute.
Really impressed with the service they provided – I am very impressed by Melbourne City Movers, and i highly recommend them .I have used them 3 times and they have never disappointed me.They did not muck around and went straight to their work and the job which took 4hrs last time was finished in 3 hours. The guys were very polite and respected our belongings and considered our advise with no fuss. Thank you Melbourne City Movers.
No idea how to work – I was moving from a 2 bed apt across and large intersection so about 200 mtrs to another 2 bed apt. I have moved a lot myself and helped others with their moves, the latest being three in the last 6 months. So I could say that I have had enough experience to say that these guys were the worst I have ever seen. A job that should have taken no more… Read more
that 4 hours took 7 hours. The guy would not park directly out the front of the building saying that they would get a parking fine, and chose to park away which took longer to get to the lift. It would take two of them to walk a bar fridge to the lift then ride the lift to my apartment only to both then return together to the truck. It was a nightmare, through frustration I told them that they had to move quicker and that it was taking to long and the attitude that I received was condescending and rude. I would never suggest this company to my worst enemy. Interestingly the truck was not from their fleet but a rental from Budget rentals and one of the guys was wearing a Speedie Removals Tshirt, so I am not sure if there is a bit of subcontracting going on but all I can say is stay away regardless of the price.
Slow and lazy – Movers arrived half an hour early. I was moving across town from a 2 bed apartment to another 2 bed apartment. The movers were extremely slow and would only place 1 item of furniture in the lift at a time. They needed to be encouraged to put more in and wouldn't move any quicker. One person would put something in the truck and the other would just… Read more
stand and watch. Neither brought a drink bottle and I had to get glasses out for them that I had already packed. I had moved 12 months earlier and it took only 2 hours. This time it took 3.5 and I helped a lot and needed to push them. Very disappointing
Great service and extremely affordable – These guys were terrific with my cross town move on 13/2/16. Treated everything respectfully, arrived and finished as scheduled and didn't charge any distance or weekend fees (unlike some of their competitors.) Can't recommend highly enough and will definitely use them again. Thanks Melbourne City Movers..
Dishonest, unskilled & reckless – My move from a small townhouse to a kilometer down the road has resulted in damaged floorboards that will cost over $2000 to fix plus damaged belongings. I was fooled to think they were professional by their website & quick responses to my queries. They said prior to booking they would fix anything they damaged and to ignore their policy. reality:
1) One young guy said hi but the leader of the two was miserable and rude.
2) They worked as slowly as they could.
3) They were hesitant to fill the truck, told me to ride my bike then too late I find they only filled the floor space rather than making use of the 4 tonne truck. I asked them to go back as I also still had the compulsory 2nd hour to pay and they told me I'd have to pay an additional cost to go upstairs again. I had to remind them they already charged a one-off fee for a 2 storey property.
4) They accused me of not paying because I wouldn't pay the second they finished; they made threats and I received a barrage of calls. I had to involve the police to get them to leave me alone. I paid them that day.
5) I then found the floorboards were badly damaged and would cost over $2000 to repair plus going to the new house I found damaged belongings.
Don't ever use this service. The guy in the office [name removed] has been horrendous. I asked him what the process was to claim damage and he became very defensive stating people make these things up all the time.
I noted earlier good reviews but something has changed or they're made up.
Could have gone smoother – I selected Melbourne City Movers as they were organically top of Google so I assumed they knew what they were doing. I didn't pick them because they were cheapest because professional and efficient was more important to me than price as we had a 5-month-old to deal with. Customer service was efficient but curt. Not overly friendly or pleased to… Read more
have our business. This is fine I suppose but not a particularly pleasant experience.
Guys that turned up didn't bother remembering my name, again that's ok I guess but not fantastic for customer service and as my name was on the booking, should have been easy; we learnt theirs.
We supplied the packing materials but the packers seemed a bit annoyed we didn't provide tape dispensers for the packing tape (who does?!) why don't they have some? I understand not supplying boxes or tape, but surely tape dispensers, which they would reuse would make their own life easier.
What was a bit unusual and really surprised me was that the packers brought no food or water with them. So we bought them lunch (our money) and they needed our kitchen glasses for water throughout the packing (kind of inconvenient when they need to be packed - why didn't they bring waterbottles?)
Major reason - They didn't bring a van big enough for all of our things! The reason I chose to use a moving company instead of doing it ourselves was to save stress and make the process easier with a 5m old but not only did we have to pack our car full of items but my partner had to go back to the house to pick up more stuff! Not too bad as we moved 20 minutes away but what if it was further?! We were in a small house so didn't even have that much stuff.
The extra headache happened when our ex landlords mentioned we had left 5 drawers worth of clothes from a built in wardrobe!! 5 drawers!!! (They did ask me to check the drawers, but they packed the boxes and left them in front of the drawers at the time so was unable to and we were dealing with a 5m old so were very stressed and scatty).
Basically the process was not smooth or stress free. They managed to move it all without damaging anything and they did it at a fast enough speed but I won't be using them again and I would be unlikely to recommend them to anyone else.
Late arrival, damaged furniture, slow and misrepresentation – I moved from a 1 bedroom apartment to another 1 bedroom apartment with lift access in both. The locations were 500m from one another… The drivers arrived 1 hr 15 min late from my scheduled time. They then took 3 hrs 30 min to move the contents of a simple 1 bedroom apartment, it should have taken 2 hrs maximum. They were so extremely slow,… Read more
and when I told them to hurry up they would speak in another language. If I have not seen them in a while I would go down to check and they were just hanging out by their truck. I am paying you guys by the minute … They appeared to not know what they were doing and as they were moved items they placed fabric couches on dirty floors, their dirty hands all over my white chairs, and had no protection for any furniture before they put it in their dirty and dusty truck.
Needless to say my furniture is damage with stains, dints and cracks and scratches and nothing over very far.
Then when i went to pay they stated the amount was in excess of $50 dearer than quoted on email of which I refused to pay. I then had to negotiate on the phone to someone for over 20 minutes in the rain before they accepted the original quote.
I do not recommend Melbourne City Movers.
Administration was misleading – Medium move, short distance, started and finished late. We moved from 1 address to 2 addresses and ensured the administrators knew this. We received confirmation and was quoted a price. The movers were not told this and the administration attempted to charge us more money for two moves. In the end, the friendly and helpful moving men did everything as previously agreed, but I would not recommend dealing with the very dodgy administration.
Hard worker; not great equipment – My partner and I hired Melbourne City Movers to move a relatively small collection of items (fridge, mattress, kitchen table were the big things - no couch/TV/bed). We moved from a 3rd floor place to a 2nd floor apartment, both with no lift. We chose company based on price. Because the removalist did not start until 20mins into the booked time… Read more
(5-10min late, then could not find where I had asked him to park - charges in 30min increments), and because of the stair fee, the amount charged added up.
There was no equipment to help with stairs - only a basic appliance dolly. There are far more effective devices that most delivery companies have for stairs - it surprised me that this company had no such thing.
The removalist worked hard and efficiently. However, to get the move done in the estimated time (2 hours, which became 2.5 hours) my partner and I had to do a large amount of the work. For a similar price to what we ended up paying we could have hired a more professionally equipped team who would have got the job faster with less assistance from us.
Incredibly hard workers – We had a really hard move, from a two storey to a three storey place with a lot of heavy stuff to go up to the third floor, the guys from Melbourne City Movers didn't skip a beat. It was a huge day but they were brilliant!
Careful and efficient – Team of movers were quick and careful with furniture and looser items that were required to be moved.
