Pensioner was ripped off – My father is 84 years old, just recently lost his wife, he has dementia and heard water flowing although all the taps in the house were shut tight, he panicked and called Mr H2O plumbing after-hours, a tradesman came, went up on the roof and turned a tap off to the cooling system and charged him $850. This is an outright ripoff, the call out… Read more

charge was $180 so what exactly costed $650 in addition to the call out charge? Tradesman did not fix anything, just turned the tap off and put a $2.00 cap on it. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Because they saw a confused elderly citizen, that gave them the opportunity to rip him off. No matter how many times I called asking for justification. No reply.

Below is a copy of the invoice. Do not use this company, they are ruthless thieves.

Get lots of quotes. Do your research. Don't believe what they tell you – I had this company come to fix a leaking toilet a few years ago. The ad said free quotation. The guy arrived over half an hour late with his apprentice. They proceeded upstairs, and the first thing the guy did was to rip out the inlet flow valve. He gave me a quote of $660. That was more than the cost of the whole unit! I asked him how much was… Read more

the parts cost and how much was the labour cost. He told me $70 was the labour cost and the rest was the cost of the part. I thought that if the part cost that much, then it wouldn't make any difference who I hired anyway, it was going to cost around that much. He said it was a special part that he needed to get. He and his apprentice then went off to get the part. They took over an hour to get back with the part. When I asked to see the invoice for the part, he said that he bought it on his company's account and I'd have to contact the company. After he finished replacing the valve, he said I had to pay right there and then. I was by myself and not in a position to argue with 2 guys. After they left, I emailed the company and asked for the receipt for the part and they didn't get back to me. When I rang them up after a few more times, the lady told me that they made a mistake and I would get a $325 refund. When I rang the company and told them I wanted to see an invoice for the part, the guy was very rude and said he wouldn't send me an invoice for the part and if I insisted on an invoice, he would cancel my refund. I still insisted on the invoice for the part, and he sent me a new invoice for the job later that billed me for the time that his men were probably off having a coffee or something (because I only live a few minutes drive from a Bunnings). All in all, they were only working for about half an hour. They could have gone to Bunnings for the parts and been back in 10 minutes.

I took a photo of the packaging on the part, and found out it costs less than $30 from Bunnings. It is a fairly standard part.

It has been years since this happened, but the nasty experience just stays with you forever. These are the type of people that give plumbers a bad name. Because of them, I will never trust a new plumber ever again.

The toilet didn't seem to work as well after it was fixed. And a year later, water started gushing non-stop into the bowl. Called out another plumber. Turns out that when Mr H2O replaced the last valve, something broke off and ended up in the bowl, but the guy didn't bother getting it out. Instead he left it there. After a while the part that broke off moved and prevented something from closing properly, hence the water gushing.

They are scam artists and should be reported to Consumer Affairs – My mum's front garden pipes were turned off by SA Water for the local council to work on the street pipes, they left a notice in her letterbox to contact Mr H2O to get them looked at as SA Water claimed they were leaking/broken/blocked. So she called them up and they quoted her $3,300 to rip up the front garden and lay new pipes (???) they also… Read more

demanded a $500 deposit first (scare tactics against a 50+ year old woman - nice). Before they came back I questioned it and asked my father-in-law to check it out. He got one of his tradies to have a look and there was no blockage/leak, etc. her pipes were fine! And he didn't charge to come round and check it out either.

My Mum called them back to ask for a refund and after 4 weeks of chasing the manager he said he never agreed to a refund (verbally he did).

Do not under any circumstances use this company - they should be reported to the police, ACCC or anyone who will close them down.

Quality service – After reading some negative feedback before I called mrh2o my friend from neighbour refered these plumbers to me telling me that they provided great service and she wasn't wrong. Can't understand all the bad reviews – Used them to unblock 2 drains in Greystanes, Sydney. Was given a 2 hour time window when the plumber would come out and he also called to advise he was on his way, happy with that. They are total Scam – It's been almost 2 years now that this has occurred but it stays with you. I decided to google them this morning and was shocked that the reviews are all consistently terrible ! The next week I discovered I could have had it done for under $1000.

The Biggest Ripoff Merchants of All time – Our 80 year old clay-pipe sewers backed up. After charging $700 to do a high pressure flush, they then determined a tree had tilted the pipes and the whole lot needed to be replaced. Yes, you read right. These clowns tried to charge us $43,000 to trench and lay 20m of PVC pipe and connect it to the easement at the rear of our property. All because we live in a nice suburb he thought he could rip us off.

In the end, we got it done for $11,000, which included new stormwater pipe laid in the same trench and connected up too.

I'm now sure they ripped us off with the emergency repair of a gas leak - $3,000 to replace all the gas pipes.

Never trust these guys.

Overcharging Duds! – I was quoted $580 to replace a toilet cistern that another plumber repaired for $150. Then they quoted $508 to replace bathroom basin taps, a job I did myself for $20! The call out fee of $49 was another ripoff and the plumber said all sorts of things to scare me into getting them to do the jobs, such as pipes could burst, taps snap off, etc,… Read more

etc.

There was also some ridiculous VIP service agreement that if you bought for $143.50 would give you 10-15% discount on the jobs.

When I complained about the quotes the plumber supposedly went outside to call his boss. When he came back he dropped the prices by $200 but our daughter, who watched him said he never made a call, just went and stood by his van for 2 minutes!!

I could smell rip off a mile away and sent him packing.

Definitely would not recommend these people!!!

Puzzled, but I'm sure really over-charged! – Really hope the most recent nice review here on Dec 10 is not part of Mr H20? Several hundred dollars for a 15-30 minute job to replace the brass water inlet valve, part of a locally made and popular Hot Water Heater Service, just doesn't seem right to me.… Read more

For memory, the whole new Aquamax system, installed a few years back over a few hours, cost just double of what I was charged for this I think named PTR Valve, which took as said above, less than 15 minutes to fit.

Okay, so costs may have gone up over a few years, but not to the extent of about half of the original new unit and installation cost, for a brass fitting which may be important but in relation to what other parts form the unit, it would be minimal.

This really hurt and I should have gone directly to the manufacturer in the first place, my only excuse was other family members working shift work needed the HWS up and running promptly.

The professional plumber had not bothered to check the ignition wire which had dropped off. This was found by me when I was trouble shooting the next day and used a gas lighter and re-ignited the tank which is in perfect working order now.

Bottom line after multiple calls and talking to quite a few of the personnel at Mr H20 I got a refund (minus call out fee) but they did not fix the issue saying that originally they did not touch the ignition. If you want a plumber who reckons he's worth $600.00 per hour, this is the mob for you – My parents had a leak in a 30 cm section of galvanised water pipe. The plumber would have had to cut a length of pipe, put connectors on, flared the ends and screwed them to… Read more

this would be deducted from the bill, sounded reasonable. After not even looking at the actual job in front of him the gas fitter then started listing all the "extras" that I would "need", most of which my house already has, he then provided me a fixed price quote of over $700. Upon questioning this the gas fitter told me it would be 2 hours work, this works out to over $350 per hour. After refusing the price he then refused to leave without collecting the call-out fee. I reluctantly paid and he left. After this I phoned the booking line again hoping to get some insight as to prices where I was blown off and told "it was unfortunate that I found the quote unsatisfactory" and basically "too bad, go away". I now feel scammed out of my $39.

Unscrupulous rip off merchants – Last year I had a blocked toilet & Mr H2O diagnosed tree roots in the pipes. $600).After the work was completed we examined the pipes they dug up only only to discovered that only 1 metre of it was blocked. The pipes were only 1/2 metre under the garden & paving area. So, digging up the pipes could have been done by hand, and instead of paving & garden being ripped up (and left in a mess) for 5.3 metres, they only needed to dig up 1 metre in the vicinity of the downpipe of the toilet. I decided to pursue the matter through VCAT. Any company that operates through a call centre and does not provide the whereabouts of their operations or the name, address and phone number to contact the owner should ring alarm bells. It was only after support from the Victorian Building Authority and my own investigative work that I was able to obtain the relevant information to go to VCAT to dispute the costs. Having been awarded the costs I requested, the owner refused to accept the ruling and would not refund the money. I went further & paid for a sheriff to seize property. Finally I received the money owing me. Be persistent Absolutely nothing Over priced. Runs from a call centre so cannot follow up complaints with appropriate person. Will not divulge owner's name address etc. Dodgey

Rip off - stay away - mrh20 takes advantage of seniors!! – My mother (a senior citizen) called H20 because she was concerned about a rattling sink mixer tap. The tap probably just needed to be adjusted and tightened as it was only 2 yrs… Read more

old. Instead my mum got three quotes to replace it (parts and labour). The first was $850, the second was $750 and the third was $612. Mum thought they were expensive but the plumber told her the tap could burst any second so she was worried and accepted the cheapest quote. It took the plumber 20mins to replace the tap. I have inspected the tap. It is a 'no brand' tap which I see the equivalent sells at Reece for $59.99 and Bunnings for $49.00. Anyone will tell you that a plumber costs about $90/hr for labour. I'm ok with plumbers charging a margin, and I searched around 5 other local plumbers to compare pricing which all came in under $300 (cheapest being $180). It's a $250 - $300 job any day of the week (and that gives about 100% markup). How they can charge a senior citizen $612 (a mark up of about 400%) for this is beyond words and blatant case of taking advantage. It gets worse.

After that, my mum mentioned that that there was a blockage in one of the sewer pipes that needed flushing. H20 advertises drain clearing from $99. The plumber convinced my mum that they needed to get a camera down the pipe and then jet blast it. This took about 50min. Mum was charged $588 for this. Again I checked this price against the market and from a sample of 5 local plumbers, the highest price was $400 and cheapest $250. The last time my mum had the same pipe un blocked it cost her $170.

My mum was in a rush to get to work and the plumber was aware of this and that she was concerned about these minor issues. He made her feel that she needed to proceed with the two items of work or the situation could become very bad - basically she was scared into proceeding with the work despite knowing it seemed expensive. She was rushing into signing a contract to accept these prices on the spot.

After all this, the plumber quoted her $14,800 to replace 16 metres of 4" sewer main pipe from ceramic to PVC and re-new galvanised water pipe to copper in the front yard. I think this plumber saw a big opportunity to stitch my mum up here and luckily she did not proceed and said she needed to speak with her son.

All told, for 1 hr and 20min of work to attend to two relatively routine and straight forward tasks, mum was charged $1,249.00. This included the $49 call out fee (surely when you are charging these prices, the call out fee would be waived) and the price did not include a seniors discount nor adjust for the $35 coupon for tap repairs as advertised.

Luckily my mum did not have $1,249 on her at the time. The plumber made her pay what she could by EFT being $700 on the spot (which cleaned out her bank acct) and warned that the balance $549 must be paid in 3 days or the debt collectors would be called to chase this up! Naturally mum was worried by this threat.

I was furious when I found out about all of this and called them up and asked to speak directly with the GM. I was told the GM was away. I was given the name of the 2IC. It took over 2 weeks for someone from the company to get back to me (and it wasn't even the 2IC but rather the Operations/Client liaison officer). In this time, mum was sent and invoice for the outstanding balance again with a threat that if payment wasn't received, the matter would be referred to a debt collection agency.

When I finally got in touch to express my concerns, I received a poorly worded letter that attempted to justify the pricing. They said that they use standard pricing out of a 'pricing book' This is clearly BS as i can see in another review on this site, someone was quoted $430 to replace a sink mixer. The letter was a joke and made absolutely no sense to any commercially competent person. They offered a paltry refund of $374.40 off the total price of $1,249. We declined this and they came back and offered to wipe off the balance of the invoice $549. This meant that all up the work cost us $700 which I still think is over the odds and a rip off but its the best we were going to do.

All I can do now is tell this story and hope that others out there do not use Mr H20. If I hadn't have become aware of this, my mum could have been fleeced up to $16,000 by these shonks. I'm not sure how a business like this can feel good about their operation and their advertising material. There aren't words to describe how unprofessional this company is.

Too many to list but mainly Rip Off pricing, thretening behaviour, taking advantage of seniors, tardy response to complaints.

They repairers turned up on the wrong day once, ordered roof sheets of the wrong size and needed to reschedule once, and also on the day they finally did the job turned up more than an hour early when we could not attend the house. Following completion, I duly paid the outstanding amount to get them out of the house but refused to pay the $285 for the electrical check given the prior generous payment of $320 and no certificate provision. Despite paying massively over the odds they've still threatened me with the debt collectors. I'm now taking things up with Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Expensive, unreliable

Keep Away! Rude, Expensive - never will use again! – We used the Adelaide branch and mistakenly I thought they were a local company - how wrong was I. Where do I start? expensive is an understatement, I was charged double. I had been quoted around the $80-$110 mark from other companies for the exact same test. However my last call was Mr H20 - they got me in sold by saying they only charge $39 call… Read more

out fee, which is reimbursed if work is carried out. Then to be slapped with a $220 investigation fee for not even 1 hours work. I did ask how much they charge before I booked with them and was told that they are not like other companies that charge by the hour, so I booked thinking I have saved a few dollars, how wrong was I. The plumber found the problem - and so they should have for $220 and then wanted $300 to fix/replace the tap ware - have since been quoted $160 by another accredited plumber.

Soon after I received a call from Mr H2O asking if I would like to proceed with the tap changeover which I bluntly said no as they are far too expensive, then to be offered 10% off. I told her that I wasn't happy with their pricing in general and she asked if I would like to make a formal complaint, in which I did.

Shortly later a very rude lady rang back (with attitude) regarding my complaint and I was told they don't have set prices.. then she goes onto tell me to I was charged as per their book price! Although she did mention that I actually got discount as normally its $330 - seriously that is criminal!!

First and last time I will use them. Consumers don't make the same mistake I did!

Expensive, bad customer service

Don't be fooled by the inclusive price..., – Rang to book for a blocked drain in Melbourne - after finding a the 'local plumbing' website online and like the fact that you were told upfront about the price $49 call out then they will quote on the job. It was clear that when they arrived they liked to add on services then give you price that includes them - really we only wanted the pipe… Read more

unblocked - (they quote from $69 online). They quoted $440 to clean and have a look - we proceeded with the work (thinking this was on the expensive side). They apparently found a collapsed pipe - I have no problem with this it is an old house although we feels as though we were taken advantage of so the quote to fix this costing $4000 - $5000 to fix - needless to say we will be getting a second opinion elsewhere. They turned up early Felt like salesmen not plumbers surely they have enough work

Avoid avoid! – We used the Adelaide branch of this company and found it to be terrible from start to finish.... the plumber fitted a toilet incorrectly without screwing it down, then cracked and damaged the new wall tiles when attempting to fit the taps, left without completing the job and charged us extortionately for the pleasure... we have had to get another… Read more

plumber and a tiler to come back and fix their mess.... numerous calls to the company went unanswered, they won't give you an office address to visit, don't return calls, finally go hold of someone who agreed to refund a fraction of the fee but still very unsatisfied with this company.... avoid at all costs!
