Great experience – I began with MTAA quite a few years ago, I decided to remain with them, now spirit super when I left the motor trade and I'm so thankful I did, never thought I'd need to access TPD through my fund, but a big bag off poop made that so. The quick manner in which my claim was approved was incredible and life saving and they've restored my faith in… Read more

humanity after dealing with WorkCover and scummy doctors and psychs, I'll absolutely be recommending friends and my son switch over to spirit super.

Shamelessly unethical – The fund bought the retail Plaza downstairs from 30 levels of residential apartments in South Yarra, then promptly locked the lift to the residential storage cages, so the grocer could stack his groceries there. 500 apartment owners without the lift they purchased! When the local council told them to unlock the lift and make it freely accessible,… Read more

they went to Court to try and get the word 'Resident' removed from our lift on the Planning Permit from October 2008. All our furniture trucks have been unloading through our front lobby and the committee is too intimidated to fight them. Unethical bullies. Imagine how much they must care for your funds if they lock owners out of their own property!

Sham company – I was with these guys for 2 yrs, during this time my Superannuation was deposited but my savings always seem to vanish into thin air with account keeping fees, management fees and life insurance I never requested. After 3 yrs the account had zero $$ all taken by the MTAA in fees fees fees. Yet they still had the nerve to contact asking for money… Read more

Spirit Superannuation Ex MTAA-A New Really Dodgy Company. Swap Funds Now. ---------Samantha F On 4th Nov 2021 – The tasplan merger. Without notice spirit super had my nest egg- and had no customer care. I had been with mtaa for about 35-years, I received no notification that my superannuation was now in the hands of spirit super. I had great security with my insurance, and superannuation. On merging they tried to destroy my insurance and reduce it, what… Read more

a joke. More recently, I received another letter threatening to cut my insurance, why ! Because they have not bothered to let me know that no super has reached my account this year, they dont follow up with anything. They dont even care if your funds dont reach your account, no employer contributions have reached my account since 2020 a merge that they feel is not their responsibility and just wipe their hands of any problems , just ensuring their fees come out. They have not only stalled but stopped, they are not here to grow our nest eggs but to destroy them.

Keep your options open – I've been with MTAA for nearly two decades and had been happy with them until the TasPlan merger. Since the merger and re-branding, the performance of the fund has stalled, and the customer service levels have nose-dived. Being spoken to like an idiot when the problem was shown to be at their end was not appreciated. I'm now actively looking to change funds.

Spirit Super ex MTAA super provided wrong information in regards to insurance premium – When MTAA super converted into Spirit Super the members were informed that their insurance premium might change. After further investigation, I was told that in my case the insurance premiums will increase by more than 100% because I am 46 years old. After discussion with the helpline I was sent a link with the comment "here’s the link to follow… Read more

to keep your insurance under the MTAA super policy". I was told with this link I could keep the MTAA insurance premium after changing to Spirit Super. But my insurance premium increased. After logging complaints I was told that I cannot keep the MTAA insurance premium. I changed to another super fund and it took me months to get a refund from Spirit Super. I had to involve AFCA. If you search around you will find better funds with lower fees, better returns, lower insurance premium and so far my new fund did not give me incorrect information.

Appalling customer service – MTAA were prompt in their responses. However since the change to Spirit Super it’s been a free fall. They do not return phone calls, they do not respond to specific emails, they do not follow up on specific requests. All I have received is their generic fluff about how valued I am, and how they are making things simpler. I attempted to register… Read more

with their app, but it failed and a banner flashed up saying ‘due to higher volumes of…blah, blah, blah’. The wait time to speak to someone is exceedingly long. They need to employ more people in customer service p, instead of doing things on the cheap. I cannot recommend Spirit Super.

Be careful this in a garbage super fund – I will let you all know ,because this mob won't, you can have a binding beneficiary of your super money and this super co with you in mind change it to non binding every three years and do not notify the member, I just went through major organ transplant surgery, and in case it went upside-down I arranged things to make sure my loved one were… Read more

catered for only to find out after surgery and the merger, I had no insurances in place and my fund now unbinding so it is up to a public trustee to disperse my money. And again no notification to member ......Warning.... Be careful

MTAA was good until now it merged with Tasplan – I joined MTAA 2 years ago I got job with a wholesale car part company and my husband is a mechanic. The customer service was great and the app was easy to use UNTIL about 2 weeks ago MTAA became Spirit Super. Their website was at amateur standard, the layout was so plain without indepth industry information. The app was not user friendly. Hope it improves as time goes on

Happy retired super fund member – I have been with MTAA since 1987 and over the years, even when I was living in the UK, I was always kept up to date with emails and by post and they were only a phone call away. I am now retired and have found their online website easy to navigate but also safe in the knowledge that I can easily contact them by phone for additional advice when needed. Show details

Worst super fund service out there, never bother – Recorded incorrect details on my file, made it almost impossible to leave them, zero assistance from their agents and they will constantly muck you about with no end in sight. Worst experience of any fund ever.

An excellent Super fund – As I retired, and checked the fees of my then super fund, I was horrified as to the total fees. I searched super funds on the net and concluded that MTAA Super Fund had both excellent return on their managed funds, and had very low fees. MTAA fees for my super pension were one third of the prior funds fees. I have always found MTTA to be… Read more

friendly and super helpful when you phone them. A huge bonus is that they offer free financial advice from independent financial advisors. I have advised all my friends to transfer their super to MTAA.

Very helpful, on line easy to navigate – After being with MTAA for many years, I recently had to talk to them to get some advice. They were very helpful, and advice was appreciated. Signing up on line is relatively easy (I had to show someone recently). It is easy to change your investment options on line, without fees. Well done MTAA! Show details

No hassle and never any doubts – I have never had or have heard of other people with this company that have ever had any issues. I have been with this fund since moving over from New Zealand in 2005 and I will remain with this company forever. Great advice, feedback and customer service as always.

Highly recommend – I joined MTAA Super in 2005 when I rolled over under $40,000. By 2017 my balance was $130,000 plus. The product has provided excellent returns on my investments and the online information system is commendable. Since I reached retirement age I have found it was a simple process to apply for draw downs from my superannuation and the funds were… Read more

deposited into my account with 10 working days. My strategies included research and understanding, not wasting money on financial planners, investing 100% in Australian Shares and while my salary was low enough to meet the ATO superannuation threshold I made after tax personal contributions to a maximum $1,000 per year and the ATO co-contributed $500 on my behalf. This is worked out on a sliding scale depending on your gross salary https://www.ato.gov.au/Calculators-and-tools/Super-co-contribution-calculator/. Once my salary was greater than the co-contribution threshold I salary sacrificed part of my wages ensuring my employer paid super contributions on the whole of my salary pre salary sacrifice. Superannuation has a concessional tax rate of 15% and by salary sacrificing you reduce your take home salary and pay less income tax. The only problem I had was with life and income protection insurance. When I stopped working full-time and worked for only 3.25 hours per week I cancelled the income protection insurance because the premiums were too high. My last tip is that if there is a crash in the economy leave your investments where they are until the economy recovers or else you will lose too much.
