1 Stephen D.  · Wouldn't feed it to my dog – Never again, Pastry is bout 6/10 after that its bin fodder..definitely one of the worst pies.
1 Ray S.  · National Pies are a National Ripp Off – Pastry with no fillings or flavours just minimal sloppy gravy

I bought the chunky beef pies and the little beef pies and sausage rolls and both products were pathetic. I'm seriously giving them to my dog and I'm annoyed I paid for this rubbish. Woolies we expect better than this awful tasting muck!

They were good about 20 years ago, now the pies and sausage rolls seem to be made up of shredded rubber bands. Plenty of other brands are better for a lot less $.

I used to love the National meat pies, but I recently tried the 100% Angus beef pie. I found it very dry and lacking gravy, I found the meat texture strange, sort of gritty, I did not finish the pie, but when I had a look on the ingredients list, I noted it was only 20% beef, with Soy fillers and coconut, I thought I was getting 100% beef, what is… Read more

coconut doing in a meat pie, just cheap and nasty products to substitute real meat. Come on National, if it is a beef pie, and you advertise is as 100%, make sure it is just that

Bought a classic pastie the pastry is the only edible part, filling looks and taste like ground up dog food, don’t bother unless you just want some pastry

Disappointed to see that they only fill the pie with about a teaspoon of meat. Feel ripped off. Bought from Woolworths Show details

Not bad when properly heated – Since writing my first review, I've tried a few more of these pies and adjusted the air fryer temperature and cooking time, and now I'm quite pleased with them. The heating instructions on the pie packaging needs to be changed to about 32 minutes up from 20-25 minutes at the suggested 160C temperature. Show details

I have bought National pies before at Woolies and again just recently. I am drawn to say that they are the best store bought pies hands down... I have tried them all...Four and Twenty, Adams gourmet pies, aldi etc etc...National pies are that much… Read more

in front of the others, they don't come close. I take them out of the freezer, let them sit for approx 30mins then micro for 3mins and airfry on 170 for 6-7mins. They come out absolutely superb...beautiful crust, crisp and just nicely browned and the filling is to die for...they far exceed many so called pie shop fare. In fact I would rate their pies as close to the best I have ever eaten from any source. They are exactly what a pie should be...nice mince base with a subtle beef flavour encased in a beautiful pastry, which holds together and succumbs to the tooth without objection. So good that you can forget about sauce!!!

Follow-up  · Oddly enough I am not an avid pie eater and therefore a little disinclined to try out bakeries on a random basis. That said, here in QLD I would rate Beefy's pies as being on a par with National Pies, given they are a specialist providore. My favourite flavour is always the 'curry' pie. If trying out a new pie shop I will purchase a curry pie,… Read more

Bought the 12 Pack of Pies at Woolies for $5.50 (half price special) following a You Tube review. I used an Air Fryer to heat them when required. They were soooo Tasty , I didn't even add sauce. Like other comments below, I can't understand the negativity. Give my budget constraints I don't think I could afford the full price regularly. Show details

These pies are so tasty. I love the cheese ones in particular. not sure why they get bad reviews. the pastry is spot on and the filling is perfect. Never found a grizzly bit. Best pie from the shops. Better than a lot of pies Ive had at bakeries. My go to for a great snack! Show details

I've bought these Pies a few times now, the first 2 times they were great and had a good amount of filling but now the filling has halved. Not worth the money anymore, will not be repurchasing!

I have no idea why so many reviews here are negative about these pies, pasties and sausage rolls. The pies and sausage rolls are at least equal and, to my mind, better than alternative brands. As for the pasties - these are easily the best I have ever tasted. I have been enjoying pasties for well over 60 years but in that time I have never had a pastie that I have enjoyed as much as these. Show details

Pies Don’t Need MSG – Why do you feel the need to add MSG, living in NSW we have Garlos pies, lovely and no MSG. Tried National pies when in Tassie, bad asthma attack off to hospital.(sadly didn’t read ingredients) and to make it worse no Garlos in Tassie

No happy with this product – Purchased some party pies for a small gathering. Some of these contained very little or no filling. The one and only one I tried had a lot of grissle / fat , very disappointed, definitely won't be purchasing this brand (National Pies) again.

Worst pie I’ve ever had. And I’m 60 so have had a lot – Purchased two pack of chicken curry pies. If you love pastry this is for you. If you like chicken buy a chicken coz there’s no evidence in the pies I had, just curry gravy with lots of carrot pieces for some reason ?????. Ahh got it …. got mixed up with the carrot curry pie wrapper in the factory may get lucky next time

Disappointed pie hype – Disappointed, pastry flakey and well presented, filling lacks taste and substance. I bought 3 different versions and was very disappointed with all three. Will not be purchasing again, shame.

Very ordinary pies – Followed the TV hype from Jack Riewoldt, for whom I have high regard. Found only frozen National pies at IGA. Tried 3 varieties, hoping for some flavour. Was disappointed. While I try hard to buy Tasmanian, these pies are heavy on doughy pastry, minimal filling with bland flavour, and will not buy them again. Sad.

Good Aussie product – These are affordable and quite good. Follow directions. Great lunch. I have had the mince, curried chicken and the vegetable pasty all good. I haven't tried the steak as I don't like steak pies in general. I find that some mince pies upset my stomach but not these. I buy a few every week for when I am lazy. Show details

Party pies – I love a good pie. I have never bought a pie, frozen or otherwise from a grocery store. Today, went to Woolies and saw these pies. They looked big and beautiful, fresh. Another lady was next to me and said, Wow, I haven’t seen these before. We both talked ourselves into getting them. Could not wait to try them. They looked delicious! Well,… Read more

Instructions on the packet said 10-15 mins. Not so, took close to 25. Pastry was great on top, however, base was dense. All pastry and very little meat, if that. Aldi do better party pies.

a pie with tomato sauce – I *Love* a beef meat pie and i spotted the *Proper National Pie* in my local super market yesterday, their was quite a good selection to choose from too. Anyways, i went simply for the basic beef pie with no frills and i couldnt wait to get home and try one ( i bought the pack of 2 ) Generally happy with the pastry, the beef was edible but i was a… Read more

little let down with, not sure how to say, the beef could have been a little more inside the pie, the beef had been minced with in an inch of its life and ? maybe some more gravy was needed ? i just feel with a little more improvement to the filling of the pie it could be much better pie. Having said all that and i am trying like heck to be fair, i have to rate the pie at least a 7. So Proper National Pies, Come on boys and girls, lift your game a little bit higher and i fully understand you have a budget plan but i am a pie lover and i wish to keep eating your basic beef pie, just a little more filling, on the inside and as i say, a few more drops of gravy please. Next trip i shall try another different one of your pies. Would love to know who infact from the company will read this as i am trying to be serious about your product, anyways, i guess thats about it, thank you and Go Geelong !! Yours sincerely, David Tyler

MSG 621 & 635 ENHANCERS – Why do you need to add MSG to you pies? Also Chicken & curry only had two peace's of chicken. Now I won't eat the Beef& Pepper cause it also contains the Same enhancer 621& 635. I usually check for the numbers but this time I didn't. So no more for me. Show details

Utter disgrace – The content of the beef pie would have to be 90 per cent gristle and 10 per cent inferior meat, tried them on a few occasions hoping they would improve the quality of the meat, but NO. how these so called PIES are sold in major supermarkets I will never know. Go for a frozen Herbert Adams at your supermarket

Worst pie I’ve had – Picked up a 2 pack on special at Woolworths last year (2021) and was excited to try them only to be extremely disappointed. Very cheap tasting mince filling, lots of gristle. Felt sick all night. The only good thing about it was the pastry. Company had nothing to say when I contacted them about my experience which is a shame.

No real meat inside, more a flavoured paste – Bought two of their mushroom and chicken pies and the after heating up presentation was nice and the flaky pastry case was very good, but inside everything was so finally ground and in white sauce that had a nice taste but no substance to it. Both pies were the same, so not just a one-off luck of the draw in how they were filled. After eating one you would be looking for something else even as a snack. Show details
