Router is Unstable, Had Extremely Weak Wireless And Multiple Serious Malfunctions – We bought this to replace another older B/G router and we were very disappointed in this product with multiple major issues as well as general poor performance. We use it to connect to the "NBN" fibre NTD using PPPoE. The wifi performance of this router is abysmal, we live in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment and it doesn't reach the back wall in the… Read more

bedroom, turning the router 45 degrees to us gave us 1 bar. This alone is enough to say steer clear of this router.

The router has serious stability issues, we've had the network lock us out requiring a factory reset all too often. The unit would randomly apply a security setting rendering the network unusable which required either a factory reset or a lot of troubleshooting. Most users would simply return the unit after this happened.

The printer we have often disconnects and loses the connection for reasons unknown but we suspect overzealous security. We recently decided to do the usual power cycle for diagnoses as a PC was misbehaving so turned it off, waited 30 secs and powered it back on and the unit had reset itself to factory settings with no user intervention. At this point we scrapped this product used a cheap $100 AC router given to us as a spare by a friend who upgraded and it's since worked without a hitch.

The build quality is atrocious with shiny plastics throughout that creak, horrid feeling front buttons and generally an odd design. Another point to note is that the LED's on this router are very bright.

The setup as others have hinted is a bit hit and miss with some options in illogical places but overall the menus are OK.

This router does have a neat app called genie which is good for a basic home user to check connected devices and other simple tasks.

My internet does not drop out anymore :-) – I've been living with telstra's standard D-Link modems (2 types original plus one upgrade) for the past 3 years. Puting up with regular dropouts - 1 or 2 per day on average which then I had to manualy reset by turning off the modem which then takes 4 minutes to reboot. I switched to Dodo internet (the same ADSL 2+ line) and now after 2 weeks not… Read more

a single drop out and my internet is faster. I am 4 km from the junction. I blamed that for me having to set you tube at 240p to be able to watch a continiuos video without pauses to buffer up. Now I can watch 1080Hd youtube no problem. And other pages that might take a while to load up now just pop up. The interesting thing is that when I do a line speed test it measures the same as my old modems.

The only negative is not as strong wireless. It is only a problem if i use internet on my iphone. it will sometimes lose connection if I hold my phone in a certain way and I can't connect on the street in my car. This is only annoying when I want to get into maps and plan my trip. (note I have a later model DGN2200 V4 which does not have the 2 external aerials) Faster internet speeds, NO dropouts YaY!!!, low powered wireless, can't connect wireless to my phone when in my car parked on the street.

Solid wifi and modem performer – When my existing wireless modem router stopped functioning, I went in search and frequently came across Dlink, Netgear, and Lnksys. Set Up: Very easy. I am not techy and a bit daunted by this. The Netgear comes with a CD, and once inserted into your laptop it has a wizard that sets it all up for you. The only details you need is your… Read more

'DSL' username, and password. As my old unit had completely died, I couldn't get these details off it, but luckily I had stored a small note to myself hidden on my computer for this exact scenario.

Following this, it sets up the wireless function, and gives some default names such as name of your wifi network (SSID), passphase (password), and encryption setting. All of which you can adjust easily yourself.

Price:

Very competitive price.

Wifi:

Transmits in IEEE 802.11n, so was much faster than our old unit sending data in 'g'. The next model up int eh netgear range transmits in two frequencies so that interruptions from other devices are avoided such as cordless telephones. However, I haven't had any problems with frequency interruptions.

The Look:

It looks like a nice sleek black unit. It can be used vertically on a stand, but the underside looks pretty ugly. The lights are also quite bright, so might be distracting if using this near a TV.

The unit has two cables. One that goes to the phone socket (via an ADSL line filter, and the power supply/plug. I find the power supply/plug bulky and alightly awkward.

Functions:

Apparently it can have a USB storage device added to it, shich is good as it enables your own private cloud. This means a central storage hub for your devices connected to it. Easy to set up, rapid data transfer Range is not as good as stated, wall plug for power slightly bulky

Great value for money – Great connection. When I bought this one they tried to convince me to spend more money and get a more expensive/“better quality” modem but honestly this one does the job and great value for the price. Occasionally the wifi runs slow but quickly turn off and back on and no problems.  Show details

An improvement – Upgraded from a TP-link hoping to settle some internet issues we were having. It seemed to do the trick, the internet was more stable than it had been in the past. However similar issues started which I think are related to the provider and not the modem. Overall a happy purchase  Show details

Very basic – Netgear n300 is a reliable but very basic modem.. we received this item as part of our package with Optus internet.. it does the job but if you have more then a few users it can get messy and you will experience drop outs due to multiple users on the network.. so if you have fast internet and more then few users invest in a better modem and save your self the stress.  Show details

Dropping internet and crazy slow speeds – Had this router for a little while now. It was working fine, a little slower than the average device a at about 1mbs internet download, then the fire nation attacked. Suddenly I could barely keep a stable connection! The internet will drop in and out with ISP saying that from their end everything is working fine?! I'm not sure what's going on but… Read more

it seems like a number of other people have been having similar issues with no customer support... Definitely not buying Netgear again. Gave it 2 stars as it was barely adequate for a while.

Good speeds and no dropouts – This Netgear modem was purchased because I wanted to connect more devices via wifi and was looking for a good solution. I must tell it was reasonably inexpensive to buy and easy to set up. I just followed the quick set up guide that the modem came with and set it up within minutes. I love this modem, it has good speeds and no dropouts, I have been on the same IP address for months.  Show details

Simple and has a good range – I love this simple router, it has a good range and we all are connected via wifi with multiple devices and this router handles everything with ease. It is small and sits on a shelf and does not take much space, however, is very powerful and the wifi signal is strong and reliable, no dropouts.  Show details

Simple router works just fine – This is a cheap and basic router and its fine for our needs fr now. We are a couple so the maximum number of people using it at any time is two. It keeps up fine but I wouldn't recommend it for a larger family. Its pretty stable and I only occasionally reset it (not sure if it does anything). One day we will upgrade but its fine for now  Show details

Good value for money – This router has an amazing range. I was on the market for a wi-fi extender and when I change the router, it works so well that I do not need any more extenders, I get 5 bars everywhere in the house. This router is reasonably priced and works without dropouts. I would recommend this router to a friend.  Show details

Value for money, worth buying modem – This is a quality Netgear product you can connect to your ADSL network and access so many advanced functions. It's reliable and will last. It comes with the Ethernet cable, line cable, splitter and AC power plug. The wifi coverage covers my house and provides me with decent speeds up to 10mbs some days. If you're with a great provider they may even recommend this modem for your service.  Show details

Netgear is worth buying – Netgear N300 is a great little wifi range extender, it is small but versatile, we can now go into our back yard and use our iPads to connect to the internet and get a good signal strength. We are very impressed with the unit, and it’s size means it does not take up much room.  Show details

Good unit – I purchased this modem because it was reasonably priced and I was advised it was easy to install compared to others. It's worked well in my household for a few years with no issues. I have had some minor issues with my internet being slow and dropping out for short periods of time but that could be down to the internet provider or the modem, or a combination of both.. Either way the issues have been short-lived.  Show details

Very good modem – This modem is very good for our ADSL needs (no NBN yet) and I have had no problems with it in our one-bedroom apartment. The signal that it provides is more than adequate for our living space and it wasn't too difficult to set up from the box (all instructions provided).  Show details

Excellent value-for-money – I have had this for approximately 2 and a half years. I got it to replace my TPLink modem-router, which stopped working after about 9 months' use. I purchased my Netgear from JB Hi Fi. OK, it was twice the price of the TPLink I had before, but it's lasted twice as long so far and shows no signs of stopping. connection with and I have never had a single issue with our WiFi connection throughout the house since we have had it, unlike when we had the TPLink, where we suffered from frequent drops in connection.

The only thing I'm disappointed by is that when we eventually are forced to convert to the NBN (whenever that may be), we won't be able to use it anymore. Aside from that, I can't fault this product and if I had to get a new modem-router for any reason, I'd buy one of these again in a heartbeat.

Not too bad – I have moved my house and was getting a bad reception of wifi and asked my internet provider why it is happening. I was told that my modem is old version that cannot capture good strength of wifi. I went to JB hifi and asked for advice and they have recommended this. I cannot say it is perfact and great but singals are good.  Show details

Reliable modem with good range – This Netgear modem was easy to install and we connected all the devices via wi-fi. The wifi range is good and we our speed is good as well. We use ADSL 2 and would probably need to upgrade for NBN. The modem has antennas and looks a bit old-fashioned. However, it is reliable and the connection is stable.  Show details

Perfect solution for a multi device household – We have a few devices connected via Wi-fi at any time and our connection is stable and the internet speed is fast, considering we are still on ADSL. It was easy to install following the box instructions. I have no special IT knowledge, however, it was a job for me. We also noticed that the signal range is good and we no longer require WIFI extenders. We signal is good anywhere in the house and is also stable.  Show details

ADSL2+ Router – Made my connection longer and more reliable. ISP sent routers are unreliable. Cheap replacement like this is a great implementation of your home network. Wirelessly connect all of your computers and mobile devices. N300 WiFi speed lets you simultaneously download, stream music and video, and game online. NETGEAR genie® makes it easy to setup and monitor your network. Parental controls keep your Internet experience safe and secure.  Show details

Cheap and does the job – Took the advice from an Officeworks staff member - needed this for my new wifi connection with Mate Communications - and its great. Very good for ADSL – This Modem is very good and has to different channels to choose from so that the line does not slow down between a number of devices used. Netgear ADSL modem router – So easy to get working! No set-up needed, no CD needed. Just plugged in the cables, and all connections took place automatically! Good solid steady modem/router – Have used this router for 2+ years. It's small/compact and unobtrusive. There is little tweak setting available and it is near auto setup. connected.

Recently purchased a Asus modem/router with so many settings to tweak it does my head in. To get the same reliability (not dropping out) the speed is circa 1000mbps less than the Netgear. So much for technology progress!

The Netgear uses a Broardcom chip set, the Asus does not. This is why the Netgear works so good for me as the Broadcom chip set manages a much better connection over the 4300m than the Asus.
