New Wave 5-in-1 Multicooker NW700

Best appliance I own – I have had mine for years and love it. I do a lot of slow cooking and can’t fault it. The food is amazing , my family love my hearty beef stews. We do a lot of caravanning and wouldn’t leave without it. The bowl is still as good as new. I am slow cooking silverside at the moment in our caravan.
So disapointed – The pressure cooker function has never worked for me. The valve that operates the pressure cooking was fiddly and the pressure rarely came on. It would just go straight to cooked. I thought it was my fault in how I was using it, as it was my very first pressure cooker, but realise now it is a fault with the cooker. A waste of my money. The slow cooker function works quite well. Show details

Great product woeful instructions UPDATE Now broken and no one wants to know me – See my updated review in capitals down below I haven't used other multi cookers but i have bought a couple of these as gifts because they work well and stop you having so many appliances in the cupboard. Just so you know rice cooks well on low pressure for 3 min for a small amount and 4min on low pressure for a larger amount. The slow cooker… Read more
runs a little hot for making confit, but you can fiddle a bit with timing to make up for that.
I just wish they would make some utube videos to make it easier for people who don't like to read instructions but as i said the instructions are pretty woeful. Best ever thing you can get an additional stainless steel bowl for those of us who don't like to use teflon.
Pressure cooker great for when you need some speed
I use mine a couple of times a week my first one did break i think it was about 3 yrs old and i have read some complaints about this online. And now my new one is broken kogan told me to take it up with new wave but none of their ph numbers or contacts work I have had to lodge a complaint with fair trading sorry to all the people who have read my recommendation I didn't relise it would be such a hassle to get a replacement and I think a years warranty makes this purchase way to disposable I would expect to get about 6 years working life out of it and remember this is my second one the crock pots are still going after 20 yrs new wave I think built in redundancy is irresponsible and so 80s
Just wish they would make them oblong shaped so you can fit lamb shanks easily in them.
Extra Bowls – I am very pleased how the New Wave 5-in-1 NW700 operates. It is very easy to use and clean except for the section where the lid locks down. People with larger fingers have trouble cleaning it. The meals are a breeze and take less time therefore saving on time, energy and not heating the kitchen in summer. The two stainless steel inner bowls… Read more
(made for the New Wave) are great as one doesn't have to worry about damaging the non stick coating. Using two bowls one can cook the main meal in one and desserts in the other. It is great for cooking steamed custards, cheesecakes, poached fruit etc.
I have been able to use it successfully preserving veges, jams & syrups using 4 pint Ball Mason jars. Making bone broth is now very easy with less electricity used.
Just recently I made ginger jam in the New Wave using the steam button. It worked quite ok but I would like more control over the temperature setting, very pleased how the jam set - a big difference than cooking it on the stove top.
One thing that I would like to see is a manual/pot button so one can use it like an electric saucepan to cook jams, steam puddings and make syrups etc. Also include a glass lid for this purpose. There is a need to choose temperatures when using it as an electric saucepan - just a couple of suggestions.
Another feature is one is able to buy spare parts for the New Wave, when needed - keep this aspect available to your customers. The fact that NW700 has the ability of cooking at low pressure of 10psi & high pressure of 13psi is very handy for those of us who do a small amount of preserving. Please keep this standard in any future models.
I will definitely purchase another New Wave with the added features.
Best Of It's Kind On The Market – This machine is the very best ever. I just love the way you can choose high or low pressure, put in your regular recipes and cook them quickly. Then change over to steaming, slow cooking or whatever. When a recipe calls for browning, you can do that first of all followed by whichever programme you desire. The cleanup is quick and simple. the last couple of days I have purchased a new machine (not a NewWave) because my machine broke down, the element failed. The NewWave is not available in my area and I purchased locally. I am devastated that I didn't purchase another NewWave as I find all the latest machines have big reservations, and the pre-programmed buttons are very restrictive on these new models.
Although on a tight pension budget and in spite of paying nearly double for a new machine, I am going to endeavour by any means, to purchase another New Wave multi - fabulous machine. Very angry with myself for wasting my money on something I thought was better - there is nothing better than a NewWave multi.

Just keeps on working – Purchased 6 + years ago 2nd hand. Been in constant use since then and it just keeps on working. Only issue is the inside bowl needs replacing due to wear and tear over the years. Cooks rice perfectly in 7 mins. 2 cups rice / 2 cups water. High pressure 7 mins. Done.
Perfect – Have had cooker for a number of years. Just never fails, such a great asset to have. Pre set and leave to cook while I'm at work. Chicken curry tomorrow for dinner. Show details
This is going to save me so much time in the kitchen – I did alot of research on multi cookers... before finally deciding on the New Wave. I was nervous to use it at first... Being my 1st pressure cooker. But it is so easy to use. Now I am confident... Im looking forward to experimenting with new recipes leading into winter. Good quality. Easy to clean. Looks great on my bench... light and easy to… Read more
store. Mine came with a bonus stainless steel bowl. Which I feel more comfortable with using under high pressure.
Negative reviews
A real lemon – Terrible. The browning function constantly times out even when there is plenty in the pot. I have to bang on the lid to get it to lock when pressure is reached and sometimes it just won't lock. I see from reviews of the updated model that it's not much better! Instruction book is sub-standard. I've put it up with it functioning poorly for a couple years now and I'm going to replace it with an Instant Pot.
The multicooker i bought was a big disappointment. It kept going into E4 error and I could not use – I found that the inner bowl wore out very quickly and i had to replace it after a short while. The E4 error came on frequently rendering the machine inoperable. I got rid of it and replaced it with an ordinary pressure cooker which i can put in the dish washer. Show details
Returned! – I had the original New Wave 5-in-1 Multicooker for 8 years. No issues and was working fine. I needed to get it replaced because the slow cooker function was starting to stop working properly. Bought the new V2 model from Dick Smith. The quick release valve never worked and after 4 times using the unit the lid no longer closed. The instruction… Read more
manual was the worst I have ever seen. Horrible unit which is such a shame given my experience with the previous older model.
Returned and asked for a refund.

I want a new one – My Husband bought me and my Daughter one each.... years ago. We've used them without any issues. Brilliant appliance. The only thing I wanted to change after much wear and tear was the inner bowl because it was becoming scratched and I wanted to buy a replacement. Unfortunately there are no replacements for the 5L bowl. So it looks like a new unit.... Show details
Purchased 2nd hand. Going strong with heavy use – So delighted to have this in our kitchen with (optional, separate purchase) stainless steel insert we use this mostly as slow cooker with browning function (daily for bone broth and several times weekly for full meals), but also on "quick, need dinner nights" as pressure cooker. It goes camping when we have powered site due to flexibility on Use. Nothing bad to say. Been going 6years + between our family & previous owners. Show details

Excellent results – We both love it. It is pretty easy to use - we had a stove top pressure cooker forever. We have been using it constantly -curries, beef & Guinness stew (to die for) & lamb shanks in 1 hour for a family of 6 adults. Awesome! It is easy to use. I found when you use the pressure cooker setting (air tight) -to add time you need to release (exhaust) completely & reset the time. The cleaning is a breeze. Show details
A great cooker, wouldn't do without it! – Had ours for about 18 months, is easy enough to use and is handy for everything from rice to quick or slow cooking recipes. The white writing on the pressure relief valve does wear off after a while, but this is the only nag i can think of! Apart from that, this is not one of those gadgets that we have used a couple of times and left at the back… Read more
of the cupboard, it gets constant use. Pressure cooking rice for 2-3 mins then steaming it for 2 mins is a good trick that works a charm. If ours ever broke down, i would definately hope to find another!
Best cooking item for a tiny home unit and very little bench space – Happy with mine... but I had to use other companies for more information and recipes. Does save a lot of washing extra pots etc. . It has a permanent place always ready for use. re the water that drips back onto the bench when opening the lid, have you lost the small flat plastic cup that clips into the back under the lid ??? Can't live without it – I own two of these electric pressure cookers (one for another house) and they are far superior to an ordinary stove top pressure cooker which I've had since 1974 in various forms, because of their multi-function. In particular the slow cooker, which I use nearly every day, and the soup option, which I use daily. The only problem I've had is with… Read more
the very poor instruction manual and today (after 4 years of solid use) the seal has gone. I've contacted a pressure cooker wholesaler & a new part will be on its way soon.
Really good for vegan food – I love it. I was given it after I asked for a pressure cooker - imagining a stovetop pot - a few years ago and I was a bit dubious (the bench space, mastering the controls) but I cook with it all the time because I'm vegan and eat a lot of beans. Chickpeas take 30 mins (conventional stove top takes 4 hours) and beans like kidney that usually took… Read more
about 2 - 3 hours to cook through take 20 minutes. I also cook brown rice in 10 minutes on high pressure (45 mins conventional) so it saves me a lot of effort and stove watching and burned pans!
I agree that sometimes the controls flip out. I think it's mostly when you decide to change modes. Mine goes back to normal if i switch it off for a few minutes and let it cool right down.
I find it really easy to clean and use and just look up a web manual if I find something difficult.
I would prefer it if it had a more durable lid, a bit less plastic (sometimes it smells a bit like hot plastic but that's all the outside bits so doesn't get into the food but still i find that a bit alarming) and a stainless steel pot. Other than that it's perfect.
Seriously cant live without it! – Purchased this item through Innovations several years ago and I have used it almost every day since. The only thing on the appliance that has worn out is the internal cooking bowl, which resulted from all of the use (due to stirring and banging of utensils) The lid is able to be removed for cleaning, as is the rubber seal and the two little… Read more
pressure covers (one on the top and one underneath the lid) which I throw directly into the washing up. I wipe down the external bowl with a damp cloth both inside and out. I've used the appliance for pressure cooking mainly, but have used it for browning and slow cooking as well. The fact that it has a keep warm function is fantastic because it means you are guaranteed a lovely hot meal when you are ready to eat. I'm not sure if we can purchase a new bowl separately but I'm on here googling another one as we speak.
Use this nearly every day – This machine is brilliant. We have had it for about 6 months and we use it for nearly every evening meal. It's so easy to just drop the bowl in the cooker before you leave the house in the morning, set the timer and return home at the end of the day to a perfect meal. The beauty of this cooker is the keep warm function. Even if the cooking… Read more
finishes a few hours before you get home, this will keep it warm and perfect and have your meal ready when you are. The browning function really does make so many recipes a one pot scenario. No more having to soil a pan to brown your meat before throwing it in.
I see a lot of negative reviews for this appliance here, specifically around not building up pressure. We had the same issue in the first couple of weeks to the point where we tried to return it. The saleslady at the shop showed us about ensuring the plastic lining on the lid makes a secure seal. Sometimes after cleaning, the plastic seal doesn't sit quite right which will cause the pressure cooker to fail. All it takes is a wiggle and a check, and you'll have your problem solved. Since we've been shown how to re-seat the seal (literally takes 1 second) we have never had an issue.
Some people have said do yourself a favour and avoid, I say do yourself a favour and get one. We're in the market for a 2nd one we love it so much.
My favourite thing in the kitchen!! – This was purchased for my birthday as i am a busy mum and i absolutely love it!! I had a fire in my house 3 years ago and the newwave multi cooker and my rice cooker were the 2 things that survived and im wrapped!! I havent had any problems with the lid, to clean it comes off easily you need to do it carefully but its a skill ive mastered! The… Read more
pressure cooker is awesome and i can cook a corn beef in an hour and half from frozen! Ive cooked soups in 20 mins and ive used the slow cooker combining it sometimes with the pressure cooker and the cooking time is more than halved. Come home to many yummy easy meals and my family love the way it cooks cheap cuts of beef for a curry or even chicken beast i leave whole and its so tender even after 4 hours! I break it up at the end and it keeps it moistness. Its so easy to use ive even taught my teenagers! Two buttons is all it takes! The cleaning is easy i remove the lid and wash that and rinse the top but i dont get water inside it. The only thing i could pick on it for is the moisture that leaks when you open the lid it drips out the back on my bench. Not a big concern though. Buy it you will eat the most tenderous and full of flavour meat you have ever eaten and healthy and easy for your family if your as busy as me!!!
Almost perfect – Have not used it much but everything comes out tasty and cooked. Only thing I would have liked was either Teflon bowl or stainless steel bowl so that I didn't have to buy another bowl and have 1 wasted sitting in the garage forever. If I had seen another one which came with a stainless steel bowl I would definitely have gone with it.

Love It! – I've had the 5-in-1 Multicooker for about 6 months and use it at least once a week! I love that it combines 5 appliances into one. The bowl is big enough to hold a whole roast, being able to brown things off before slow or pressure cooking adds to the flavour. The only thing that lets it down, is that I find it very difficult to clean around the edge under the lid.
Was perfect for 12 months now it just beeps after a few minutes. Now no pressure – i just loved this product when first purchased. I nearly bought 2 more for my family but they didn't want at that time. I found that the rice cooker didn't work but I put it down to that I didn't read the manual correctly. Now everything is just beeping after about 3 minutes. Damn what a good idea but obviously made cheaply and sold at a great profit.
Dont buy support is pathetic – It's a crap pot, you cannot remove lid to wash. It's not automatic rice cooker - requires timer for different quantities. Pressure steam messes up the kitchen when pressure is released. It is noisy. Lid and its fittings are tricky to clean. Takes up a lot of storage area in cupboards.
Pressure valve wont pop up - cant pressurise therefore pointless – The high-pressure function worked without fail for about the first 5 times, then as with numerous other reviews on here that function fails. The device will reach full heat and send steam out but fail to pop up the pressure valve so it turns off. Very frustrating after you have taken the time to prepare all your ingredients (which you cant just pop back into containers as you will have browned the meat and added seasoning etc).
Great thing to use. But that is the problem – Please do your self a favour by not purchasing one of these. If it worked properly i would be a fantastic thing to use. From new it never worked properly. I emailed the place i purchased it from, who in turn emailed the manufacture. The reply was i was not using it properly. The device torments you by never building up pressure before it would… Read more
beep and turn off. They said it was the way i was using it so i battled on. Some times it would stop 3 times before it built up pressure and started its count down. As it was near the end of winter, i only used it a few times then it was put away till this winter. It was worse. The screen went blank. It would over pressurise. The beeper had a death gurgle. Got in touch with manufacturer who said its over 12 months old its not covered under warranty. Only used 10 times if that.
My advice is to not go near them as if it gives you trouble your on your own. Do you self a favor and get one that you put on a stove.
Fantastic and easy to use – I use my New Wave 5-in-one cooker mostly for pressure cooking , I find it excellent and easy to use. The browning button does a great job with onions, chicken & all meat. I add veges and stock and have a really great meal in only 25 minutes. it's my mainstay for winter.
This is the worst house appliance I used – Worst cooker I have ever come across, instruction are poorly written, as a frustrated male I disassembled the cooker out of rage and put the thing in the bin. Bought another brand and it's been perfect and all this time I thought it was me not reading instruction properly
Love it despite its quirks – I bought it a several years ago. The first time I used it was to cook rice. I followed the instructions and ended up with a geyser spraying rice water all over the kitchen so bought a rice cooker. I use it a lot for soups, slow cooking and pressure cooking. I had to get the seal replaced and the bowl is worn. Sometimes it refuses to cook or will… Read more
only cook for 2 minutes so needs to cool down and be 'rebooted'.
My main complaint is the slow cooker seems to bubble quite strongly, not what a slow cooker should do but it all turns out tender. I have to say I love it despite its quirks and I certainly got my money's worth.
Do not bother – This product is absolute rubbish. Previously had a cheaper pressure cooker form Aldi, then were given this as a gift. Cost over $140 but has been almost impossible to use at times. Set it for 30 minutes, it turns off after 2. This appliance is destined for the rubbish heap.
DO NOT PURCHASE A 5L – I have used my multi cooker several times a week however after 1 year the non stick bowl is worn out. I recommended this product to my mum and she also purchased 2 extra bowls for us when she bought her machine. The bowls stated are for 5 in 1 and 6 in 1 machines BUT they are 6L bowls and will therefore not fit in our machines with a 5L capacity.… Read more
I have contacted New Wave via phone and chat on their website and have been advised that 5L bowls are no longer available. I will now have to replace my whole machine which is in perfect working order because I cannot get a replacement bowl and my mother has wasted $190 on a machine and extra bowls that do not fit. We have a large family which is why she bought a machine and extra bowls that stated they fit the model but do not. New Wave do not advise that 5L bowls are not available upon purchase.
Loved it when it was working – This product cooked everything great and I loved the pressure cooker in particular. Then it just stopped working mid meal one day, not even that old. Obviously this is a reoccurring problem looking at the reviews so I would not recommend this product. Cheap crap, save your money. Am now looking for a multi cooker that is more reliable.
Great when it worked but no longevity – Had the unit for about 15 months and it's now stopped working as a pressure cooker. It no longer builds up to the required pressure and then shuts itself off. I've replaced the seal & the valve with disc but neither solved the problem. Really disappointed that it hasn't lasted longer. Don't think I'll bother wasting money buying another one. With the replacement parts I'm out of pocket a couple hundred dollars.
Great for busy people who are short on time – I use the pressure cooker function at least 2 to 3 times a week. I have had this appliance for 6 months and absolutely love it. I usually pressure cook for 10 mins then leave the machine on slow cook until we are ready to eat. I've never used the rice cooker function, as I usually cook the rice on the stove while I whip up the main in the… Read more
pressure cooker.
The lid can be a little tricky to remove for cleaning - but once you get used to the unusual angle it has to be to get it off, it's a piece of cake too.
It is so easy to use and makes a decent volume ( enough for second meal even for a large family).
It is the easiest way I know to poach a whole chicken ( without cutting up) for soup or to serve cold. There are $2,500 machines that can't do that!!!!
If it blows up in 18 months - so be it - because for the $150 I paid for it I'll just buy another one.
