I had taken a policy to cover my planned 6 day walk of the Overland Track in Tasmania. Unfortunately due to bushfires that destroyed one of the huts, the Tasmanian Walking company had to restructure the the walk into 2 separate walks, which restricted it to the northern and southern sections. Given the restrictions imposed, I believed it was… Read more ·  1

appropriate to cancel my booking. NIB did not dispute my decision to cancel the walk, and processed the claim very promptly.

Very positive experience – My parents in law took out this insurance for a trip to Tasmania. They couldn't make the tour due to medical issues that arose. They received a refund and were very happy with the courteous service they received when they called the staff were very kind and helpful. They were so happy to receive the refund as it was a big investment in the tour for.them. Show details ·  1

Any reason not to pay! – My sons Jetsar flight was cancelled, no alternative options were given for him to get home from the Gold Coast so we booked and paid to put him on a Qantas flight same day. My claim has been denied because apparently the Insurance I took out to cover me for a cancelled flight does not cover you when your flight is cancelled due to "Engineering Requirements". A CANCELLED FLIGHT IS A CANCELLED FLIGHT NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON! Never again! Show details

Excessive stupidity!! – Flight was delayed 7 hours. Kept being asked over email the same below question. Answer countless times "In addition for the full assessment of your claim, we require written verification of the reason for the flight delay?" Do not take out this insurance!! Show details

Disgraceful reluctance to pay exacerbates distress of sick claimant – $4000 claim. 2 specialist and GP certificates. Required specific details from GP of all appointments in last year- privacy no! Stonewalling. Caused unnecessary distress to patient with new cancer diagnosis. 7 months later still haven’t paid. Show details

Looks like I made the same mistake again – So, I had a family holiday booked and I took out nib travel insurance. Something I only realised after I submitted ANOTHER negative review that I'd already resolved to do, so clearly I need to write it somewhere on my wall in large font as I seem to keep coming up against the same issues over and over. 2 days before our trip we tested positive… Read more

for COVID. I was able to cancel all of my bookings (hotels, flights) without issue. The ONLY thing I couldn't cancel or amend was the travel insurance, because by nib's own requirement I had to both request and nib had to action the rescheduling before the start date of travel. Remember this was 2 days before we were scheduled to travel and they responded 1 day before, meaning I had half a day to fill out all the details they asked for, return it, and for them to then action it. They knew we weren't travelling over this time (as I explained it clearly, and we're in isolation) so it's only because they institute a requirement that THEY complete their part by our travel start date that this would never have worked, they could take a month for all we know.

So then I thought, how about I put in a claim for the nib policy cost? Ultimately that's the only thing that we were out of pocket for since every other travel provider let us reschedule. So, I went and grabbed the form, opened it up and... yeah, no. It's like a work expense form, nobody makes forms like this unless they don't want you to fill them in. I note it didn't take 20 pages of paperwork for them to sell me this thing but if I want to actually use it...

Anyway, I realise at this point that I'd only fill this in if I lost a few grand. And these are domestic trips, they're not going to lose me a few grand. So I'm better off not buying these policies, and I won't do it again. Given I've rebooked now and the nib money's gone, I'm no better or worse off than I was before, except that I now have the knowledge that I should not waste my time in the future as I know what their processes are like and I know that getting a cent out of your policy is next to impossible.

I'd rather just hedge my own odds. Bye, nib. Also - the website is useless. There's no self service functions at all. You need to call for anything. It's a really shoddy slapped together service.

Did not answer their phone for a quote – APPALLING LATE SERVICE. We wanted domestic travel insurance, however after 1/2 hour on the phone, I emailed them. Reply email stated they had a high volume of work. 13 days later we received an email apologising for the delay and said they had tried phoning earlier, but the NIB person never left a msg! All too late, we took cover with a company that answered their phone! Show details

Can't answer the phone – I would like to give a factual and objective review but unless they answer the phone, that is not possible. Seems they are quick to make a sale but don't want to talk about claims. Show details

charging premium for no cover - SURESAVE another NIB name – NIB uses many names to flog its travel insurance. I bought through Suresave. Suresave are trying to keep premiums for travel insurance for travel that is no longer possible due to pandemic which has in effect been voided by pandemic. They are carrying no risk for cancellation, illness from other causes, travel delays, lost luggage but want to keep the premium while not being at risk for any claim. This is unconscionable conduct. Show details

Travel Insurance – Too easy to set up, thanks to Qantas (who I was relying on to deal with reputable operators) Holding on line for an extended time. So much for an operator being with me shortly. Not worth having. Show details
