Nikon D5100: An Accurate Analysis – This camera is definitely an entry-level camera. I've had it for years so I will speak from both research and personal experience. It only has 11 focus points, which is quite low, and you can only get about 300 shots before the battery dies. In addition, the autofocus in this camera is very slow. Sometimes by the time my camera focused I had missed the window to take the photo. It is way too slow and not very good at all. However, it is durable and compact and handles rain/water well. While it is not the best DSLR for the price, it is a good product for your money's worth. It produces good quality images and is very versatile. This is definitely a camera for photography and not videography. The video quality of this camera is very poor and I would recommend not using this for video.

Very nice camera for its money – Bought this beast in Europe and never regret it. I'll start with negative sides :) 1) Auto focus sometimes doesn't work and it makes me angry. When you need very quick to make some shot it will not work! Simply will not do a click... This can be caused by many reasons. Lack of light or wrong light position or something. Solution: Always do manual focus. I disabled autofocus 6 months ago and never use it anymore.

2) It is a bit weak for night shots, so buy a tripod and play with modes to adjust it. I did some great photos of the Sydney Harbor Fireworks when I used tripod.

3) Use cable to download pictures from it and do not take out the memory card too often. I had 1 memory card failed with 100+ photos on it due to that.

4) Use Abode Lightroom for complete your peaces of art! As pictures from camera are good enough, but not as good as they can be + pretty big in size.

Aside of that I am so happy with this camera! Taking 5 to 50 photos every day. Mostly my kids of course :)

I bought it as a kit, so if you have money buy a body + better lens + tripod.

Definitely recommend this camera! One of the best for its money.

Best DSLAR at an afordable price – I brought this camera a few months ago as my first DSLR camera. Its so easy to use weather your a novice or professional . You can buy man accessories from ebay far cheaper than you can buy them here in Oz BUT be careful who you buy from. The camera is solid not plastic the Motors for the Lenses are in the Lens I have a Tamron Macro lens with mine. The picture quality is outstanding. Clean clear and sharp photos. This camera is just the best for the price it has some amazing features like colour picking and changing make things small . Very easy to use 10 out of 10 from me! Lots of different effects can be chosen from the Menu setting Cant fault the camera!

Perfection with ease – A great camera so easy to use for a first time DSLR user. Cannot take a bad photo under all conditions tried so far.I managed to get the stle of shots I was after in the first two weeks of use. Enabled a novice to take brilliant photography with minimum fuss. For a quality DSLR - real value for money

Brilliant – I bought a twin lens D5100 VR kit (18-55/55-300) for my wife to encourage her to build on her excellent photography skills (with a point and shoot). I got jealous and find myself using this fantastic camera more than my old D80. I'm amazed how far Nikon has come, especially at such an affordable price. The D5100 has breathtaking low light performance. I borrow it for indoor sports photography and I'm amazed at the results. ISO 3200 gives good results. Kit lenses are sharp even wide open and the VR means they can be hand held even in low light. The package is so much lighter than pro-sumer or pro cameras, but is almost their - certainly a match for pro cameras of 5 years ago. Just about everything - especially ability to get great results with kit lenses in low light. Like all DSLRs, movie mode has it's drawbacks.
