OK – This was a great camera when released in late 2006, but in the cold light of day in 2010, it hasn't aged that well. SLR Cameras have abandoned CCDs in favour of CMOS, and the lack of preview in the LCD is a complete pain. Unfortunately I purchased just before the D90 was released, which addressed most of the short comings of the D80. The camera is… Read more

still useable for general photography, but if your applications are more demanding, the D90 is probably more suitable. Nice Finish, option grip makes handling easy Technology is getting a little old CCD sensor rather than CMOS, no HD Video, no Liveview LCD

Excellent – I love this camera! Have had problems with picture quality with cameras before (particuarly with noise on indoor photos). However, this camera is amazing with it's quality. Indoor and outdoor photos are so clear. It's easy to use for less experienced photographers on the auto mode, but can be used in a manual mode. There is good support for this… Read more

camera on the Nikon webpage which has suggestions and ideas for improving your pictures and using the camera to the best of it's ability. It is expensive to change the lens if you chip it so I would recommend using a uv filter. The camera itself is in the mid-high price range for cameras for personal use (not as high as a professional camera), but it is worth every cent as the photos are the best I have taken and there are some situations you want to make sure you get a good shot (for me it was the birth of my daughter). Would recommend this to anyone as it is easy to use and has a great quality. Easy to use, nice to hold, good picture quality, can adjust from manual to automatic mode. Has information on improving photos on webpage. Great for indoor and outdoor shots. Multiple focal points. Good editing features. Expensive to change lens if it cracks. Higher price range camera

Excellent – it is a wonderful camera with full range of useful functions and it is the best for beginners, rather than D40x,D60. multi-expoursure, flash system, etc a little bit slow

Excellent – I purchased this wonderful camera more than 12 months ago when it was new on the market and cost heaps then. At first I had trouble working everything out because the teeny tiny instruction book was not well layed out and hard to follow. I got myself a copy of "Nikon D80 Digital Field Guide, by David Busch and Magic Lantern Guide's "Nikon D80" by… Read more

Simon Stafford and have not looked back. I must warn about the carry strap though as my first time out I almost lost the camera into the river - it came undone. After that I never trusted it again and finally sewed it together. My previous camera a Fuji had a tether between the camera and lense cap, boy I miss that! Battery lasts a long long time. I love that the Nikon will take up to 300dpi photos - such wonderful quality. just about everything about this camera is a Pro. Carry strap, no .avi, no lense cap tether

Good – Excellent camera and makes taking good pics that much easier. I am stuggling a bit with the menus and understanding what it all means, however the point and shoot options do work well. sometimes it will not take a picture as I think the conditions (lighting) are not correct which is a bit annoying as I do not know how to manually configure so I… Read more

can take a pic. This means I've missed a few quality shots, but I do not think it is the cameras fault, more me being a novice. Excellent overall unti Can be a bit tricky for newbie to the camera world, but probably my fault for buying such a good camera to start with

Good – This is the second Nikon DSLR I've owned, and only upgraded to make the 10 megapixel leap. The quality of Nikons is far better than the comparable Canon models I've seen. You're either a Nikon person or a Canon person, and I suppose I'm a Nikon person. I've owned film and digital Nikons and have never had an issue with any of them. Every time… Read more

Nikon releases a new model, it raises the bar a little. D80 is no exception. Build quality, image quality, good LCD, huge range of lenses, menus are easy to get around, lots of image options. Location of strap anchor points, better frame rate would be good, no international warranty for pros.

Good – Top notch camera at a price that won't break you. Excellent image quality and enough features to give a great deal of flexibility with your shooting. A few glitches with the unit mean I give it a 4 not a 5. Brilliant viewfinder and geniune quality feel about the controls and shutter. Feels like a more expensive camera in the hand. Has the same… Read more

CCD as the more expensive D200 camera but without a few of the more advanced features (that I wouldn't use anyway). I had considered the Camon EOS400, but chose the nikon because of the availablity of Nikon's 18-200 VR lens which does virtually everything (well for an non-pro like me!), it's also a little bigger which suits my large hands. Image quality is very good in my view, although this is my first DSLR. A few glitches. One with the camera displaying "battery empty" and shutting down, even with a full battery - this problem seemed to disappear when I removed and reseated the lens.

No international warranty either, disappointing for a premium brand like Nikon and a fairly expensive camera
