wonderful camera – I was researching for many, many months and tossing up between this camera and the canon equivalent and I am so glad I bought this one. Firstly this one has the swivel screen which is more useful than you can imagine. There have been numerous times I used it, either in crowded areas to take a photo holding the camera above my head or where I've… Read more

had the camera on the ground to take a photo looking up. The menu is also very user friendly which is quite important. There are also a great range of auto settings for most scenes which makes it quick and easy to change between close still shot to a speedy action shot, handy with children! I've had this camera for 3 years now and it still feels like new and I love it more every day. Swivel screen, comfortable to hold and shoot, easy menu, excellentquality photos and HD video expensive when new but well worth it

Very low price, exelent camera! – This camera produces quite good images for enlargements. Easy to use, it is not heavy. Teds offered the Nikon D5000 with the 10-105mm lent. I think that I don’t need another lent for my photographic style. Other brands users had tried it and liked how it feels in their hands as well. It worth to give it a try at the Teds store and maybe you will end buying it. High quality image, very low price.

Good – Not only is this camera user friendly with it's simple to use functions, it boasts a quick start up and fast shooting speed which is great for spontaneous photography. It's light weight also makes it an ideal travel companion, especially whilst trekking. The rotating LCD screen that pops out underneath the camera is a fantastic feature for… Read more

Excellent – The Nikon D5000 is a brilliant camera, capable of producing shots that rival Nikon's higher end DSLRs. This is my first choice when I'm out and about, due to its compact size and light body (especially when coupled with a lightweight prime lens). I still use it occasionally for some of my freelance work, and am amazed by the quality of the shots I… Read more

get.

The difference between the D5000 and the more expensive Nikon DSLRs is that they have more intuitively arranged buttons and the ability to quickly switch between settings. All it means is that it allows a photographer to take a faster shot and change settings on the fly.

The only drawback is that there is no built in AF motor which basically restricts you to AF lenses (which are slightly more expensive). However, I'd still strongly recommend this camera to anyone considering a DSLR. Outstanding picture quality for its class.

RAW mode available.

Compact and lightweight body allows for mobility. No AF motor restricts the range of lenses to choose from.

Menus for most settings makes setting up the perfect shot a bit harder (time wise)

Pop out screen is rarely useful and can be cumbersome if using a tripod.

Excellent – As mentioned, i'd recommend this camera to anyone who is just moving into the DSLR territory of photography - its specifications are much better than the entry level canon 1000d, and it's not that much more expensive. Great value for money! For professionals, i'd recommend moving up the price range as the shots aren't as well exposed as say the… Read more

canon 500d, but enthusiasts/amateurs - this is for you! For its price, the d5000 provides fantastic control over all settings that the photo enthusiast wants to play with. The interface is very simple and great for beginners! The multi-angle screen is a great bonus and comes in handy for tricky spots/crowds. Nothing. :)

Excellent – I did a lot of research before buying this camera and it has not disappointed. I really don't have much to complain about I would recommend this camera to anyone. It has a lot of the usable features of the more expensive models in a smaller lighter camera. -Best camera in this price range. -Great performance. -User friendly. -Lightweight. -No… Read more

AF motor means you can't use some older lenses however I don't find this a problem as I have no desire to buy older lenses anyway.

-The reticulating lens isn't really of any use. If using a tripod the tripod will be in the way most of the time.
