The NRMA Car Batteries service is highly regarded for its convenience and the professionalism of its roadside technicians. Most reviews highlight a seamless end-to-end process, from booking via the app to on-site diagnostic testing and immediate installation. While the service provides significant "peace of mind" for members, there are isolated but serious reports of poor warranty handling and complex phone menus.

NRMA Car Batteries is an excellent choice for motorists seeking a reliable, high-quality emergency replacement service with expert onsite fitting. While it may carry a price premium and occasional administrative hurdles regarding warranties, the speed and technical competence of the patrol officers make it a highly recommended service for peace of mind.
Required roadside assistance, needed a new battery, NRMA battery replacement was installed by road service attendant, installation was quick. The battery is working well so far.
My car battery died suddenly and my daughter and I were stranded. I dialled the NRMA Roadside Assistance number already saved in my phone and easily followed the prompts to request assistance and notify my location. A text message advised we had a 1.5 hour wait and next steps. I put the hood up and had the emergency lights flashing, to help the… Read more
NRMA staff member find us in a busy car park. Within 45 minutes, John arrived, checked the battery, confirmed it was dead and offered to replace it on the spot. He was quick, efficient and knowledgeable - turns out he's not only a whiz with car batteries, he's also an expert Toyota mechanic, which was helpful as he identified a loose cable that he also repaired in minutes. The customer service, prompt and efficient repair, and ability to get home before a rain storm hit was worth every cent of the $275 to have the battery installed and be back on the road in no time! Very grateful customer...
Giving credit where credit is due, the whole NRMA battery replacement process was hassle free. Online booking was very easy, allowing me to pick a time that suited my schedule. Terry (NRMA patrol) was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable, which made the battery replacement experience pleasant. Terry's efficiency ensured I was able to get back on the road in no time at all.

Thanks a lot NRMA Team , i will recomend to all people
Great service and quick response with app map telling when the mechanic is travelling and how far is away
What a debacle of a company NRMA has plummeted to. I purchased a premium NRMA battery Sep 2024 after entering Rego for battery suitable according to vehicle specs. 3 Yr warranty. Battery 3888 costing $539. Within months my vehicle (with a stop-start engine and battery matched with make and model) began stalling at intersections ie:… Read more
stop-start failed to restart on multiple occasions and in dangerous situations putting safety at risk. Took car to mechanic who ran tests and identified battery fault (10V reading, not 12).
Called NRMA who advised that their mobile mechanic would go to the workshop where car was located and test the battery on the spot. Contrary to this, I received a call from my Mechanic an hour later to advise that NRMA removed the battery, conducted no testing but was in the process of taking it away, effectively leaving my vehicle without a battery and at the workshop indefinitely. What???
A call to the NRMA patrol attending my vehicle advised me that 'the NSW Central Coast has no NRMA mechanics in order to test on the spot' and that, as an NRMA contractor, he'd need to take it to his Manager who'd then send the battery away for testing. No timeframe could be advised. Again..... What the??
I was FORCED to buy another battery in order to have my vehicle returned to me. It has since started perfectly.
No phone call from NRMA on test results, nor where the battery was, nor an offer of a refund. Nothing. Absolute zero contact. They effectively stole the battery. My calls resulted in utter confusion on the NRMA battery phone line. They had no idea what was happening.
Next step - refund of $539? Nope!. I forwarded the battery test results and vehicle fault log as provided by Audi. 7 weeks, 5 phone calls and multiple emails to NRMA complaints Dpt and they've admitted that the battery they removed went "missing' and they cannot arrange a (pending !) refund due to an internal cost-centre dispute between their Dpts. What a disgrace!
It is a no brainer that NRMA are obliged to refund the FAULTY battery they removed for testing and then 'lost'. It is also a sad reality that this once great organisation has become a shambolic joke at the customer's expense.
Now to waste my time with a claim via Fair Trading......
Dont do it.. Buy your batteries elsewhere – Turns out, the battery I bought roadside is basically $100 cheaper anywhere else. When membership covers the cost of road service, the battery price should at the very least be competitive roadside without price gouging. .. It turns out, the 4707 battery is available in a host of places for around 170-180. But they charged me $285.. DONT BUY FROM THEM... Show details

Couldn’t be happier with the battery replacement service from NRMA. My car died on me early in the morning and I wasn’t sure what to do, but the roadside tech arrived quickly, ran a full battery health check, and had me back on the road in no time with a brand new battery fitted on the spot. The technician was friendly, explained everything… Read more
clearly, and didn’t make me feel rushed at all. He tested the alternator and charging system too just to make sure everything was in order — that kind of thoroughness really stood out.
Pricing was fair and transparent — no surprises. The whole process from call to completion was smooth and stress-free.
I’ve been an NRMA member for a while but this experience reminded me exactly why it’s worth it. Highly recommend their battery service to anyone who finds themselves in a bind. Top-notch service from a team that genuinely cares.
Want me to tweak the tone (more casual, more formal, shorter), add specific details like a staff name or location, or write a few different versions to choose from?
I recently needed roadside assistance from NRMA, and while the actual technician who attended was very friendly, professional, and helped make a stressful situation much better, the process of contacting NRMA was extremely frustrating. automated phone system with endless options, advertisements, and multiple sub-menus before being able to get help.
During the experience, I felt frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsupported while trying to get through the phone system. Instead of feeling reassured that help was on the way, I felt more stressed having to carefully listen through long automated messages and repeated options just to reach assistance.
The technician who arrived was excellent and made the overall experience much better with his friendly attitude and helpful service, which is why I’m not giving a lower rating.
NRMA should seriously simplify their phone system, especially for roadside emergencies, so customers can get help quickly without added stress.

Have been a member for ever and can't remember the last time I might have called. From the moment I called to the repair of my car I was so impressed with the service I received. a day where the wait time was 300 minutes due to their site going down, she promptly marked my job as priority which I was so thankful for. Some 10 minutes later I had a representative called Matt call and try to ascertain what the issue might be and he identified that it was probably battery. Then Moonee the tech arrived and he checked the car - agreed that it was battery and he left to secure one and returned to put it into the car. The whole process took 2 and a half hours from the call to completion, but because I was treated so well and knew what was happening I did not mind at all especially considering the pressure that NRMA was under due to their website crashing,. Well done and thank you NRMA.

Having only just finished reading the latest NRMA magazine article about failing winter batteries it felt like providence that I should go to start my car this week only to discover a flat battery myself. Thank you for providing such excellent customer service.
Had my battery replaced by NRMA today and couldn’t be happier. Quick service with a smile, and he took real care making sure nothing on the car was scratched or damaged — even though the setup is pretty fiddly. Proper old‑school service done right.

When I got my car back from its regular service, the engineer told me that the battery was not performing at full capacity. I was told by him verbally that it was only operating at 49%. battery division, and the previous time resulted in a bad battery as well that had to be exchanged. Anyway, long story short; After my call to the NRMA it was arranged for a service person to come out to check the battery condition. The first thing he did was to start the car three times and then leave it running. I thought this was strange as this would help to put a positive charge into the battery before testing it. Anyway after leaving it running for a while I asked him if he was going to test the battery. He said yes, what kind of test do you want me to do. I was initially shocked at this response because wasn’t he supposed to be the expert? So I explained that the engineers report said that the battery was faulty and not holding a full charge. He asked for proof so I showed him the report which clearly stated that the battery was tested and failed the test. His response was that the report didn’t state any figures so there wasn’t any way he could confirm what the problem was. So I asked him to carry out his own test to see the battery condition. After a lot of arguing, and him asking me what kind of test I wanted him to do, not knowing any better I said that I believe that the battery should have between 12v to 14v for starting purposes. He said “fine” and put a meter across the terminals to show me that the battery had a charge of 12.4v. I somehow knew that this couldn’t be the whole process of testing, so I insisted that he change the battery because of the faulty report. He was not prepared to do this, so I phoned a NRMA manager to discuss. I spent the next twenty minutes or so discussing with a manager at the Gosford Office what needed to happen to resolve the situation. As far as I was concerned I needed a new battery to replace the faulty one. Bearing in mind that this had happened before and still had two years of warranty to run. She wasn’t prepared to do this and said that the best she could do was to refer my complaint to their complaints department and someone would respond within ten days! I told her that really wasn’t good enough but what else could I do? During this time, about twenty minutes or so, I hadn’t noticed that my car had been left running. When I asked the NRMA mechanic why my car was running, his reply was beyond belief!!! He said “so that it will be nice and warm for you in the morning”. What? The morning was about twelve hours away, so there was no way the car would have been warm the next day. I didn’t know if he was treating me like an idi*t on purpose or whether this was a very warped sense of his humour. I confronted him and told him that I thought the reason he left it running was so that a higher reading would show on his meter if re-tested. At about this time the manager, who was still on the line, told him to leave and I was just left stranded without knowing what the heck was happening or going to happen. I obviously was far from satisfied, and now having to wait ten days for their complaints department to contact me. So the next day, I decided to see if I could get further results from my engineer who had initially carried out the battery test. He told me that he had photographic proof of the reading from the meter when he tested the battery. He then sent me a photograph of the recording showing the results of all the tests done by him, which was quite comprehensive. So I called the NRMA again and asked to speak to one of the managers. The person who answered told me after a few minutes that there were no managers available that wanted to speak. So I asked how we were going to resolve the situation now that I had proof of the battery condition. She offered to send another service person around to carry out another test. You can imagine how frustrated I now felt about going through the same routine that I had gone through the previous day. Anyway this is what happened. The new service person was a gentleman and genuinely wanted to help. This was the old NRMA that I used to know. I showed him the photograph and the test report. He said he would carry out another test on the battery and compare the two results. His test showed that the battery was now only operating at 40%. So without any further hesitation he replaced the battery and gave me a new three year warranty. So my question has to be…. 1/ Why didn’t the first service person carry out this test? 2/ Was he trying to save money for the NRMA? 3/ Is this how they teach their service people? 4/ Or was he just being obstructive for unknown reasons. Whatever the reason, I will not be using their battery service any time in the future and I would suggest that anyone reading this submission be very careful about who you choose to replace your battery.

Had a flat battery yesterday, had been thinking for a while how long the NRMA battery that was replaced 8 years ago was going to last. The NRMA service guy said 5 years is about the usual, so he said I did well, that is why I had no problems fitting a new NRMA battery.

Flat battery. Patrol mechanic performed an excellent service at replacing my battery in a busy carpark. Had me back on the road in 15 minuets. Very satisfied with the service.
