Nu-Steel Homes

My horrify experience with Nusteel – Very poor workmanship. Very slow to build delay time over one year with just lockup stage. His most subcontractors don't have experience. During building damage other.. Make sure before sign agreement asks for his insurance because he doesn't want to give you straight away. Please be advised that Nu-Steel homes are owned, managed, supervised. This business probably has problem with cash flow. He always say not true. We start next week, next week, week, after etc when start waits for another time. Very often he asks for money next stage when the first stage not finished on half way. If I had read them before choosing Nu-Steel, Trinusteel, Blusteel Homes etc He change his company name frequency, after i finished with his company, I know why he changed so often. Disgusting. Very poor workmanship, very disorganized. Very slow to build.

Warning! stay away from this company (and Ian Wood Homes) – My experience has been appualing. Its been 1 year and 7 months since hand over was due. There is hardly ever anyone one on site. We have many different supervisors and they have been so disorganised! they keep promising me things will get done but they never get done. They always deliver the incorrect items and have no care for anything. I had to holdback payment as ammunition for them to fix the damaged and wrong items. They are so disorganised and fail to meet deadlines. My wife and I have had many sleepless nights and have been under massive stress because of this company. Also i can confirm that Ian Wood Homes also is owned by [name removed] who owns NuSteel so they are effectively the same company. My house is still not finished and I am not paying them another cent untill it is completed to standard so the whole process will have probably equated to about 3 years (if it ever gets done. Someone we know is also building with them and they are having the exact same problems. Its absolutely disgracefull and we are even considering legal support. Do yourself a favour and stay away! Absolutely nothing was satisfactory! Everything was wrong!
Nu-Steel homes – I work abroad quite a bit and to kill time between contracts I decided to design a house. I then decided i wanted to build it. I contacted Nu-Steel amongst others to quote on the framing system and went with their quote. I was pretty impressed with the quality of framing system, and the service provided during the build. As an owner builder, building from my own design, and doing most of the work myself I needed a bit of handholding from time to time and found the client service team at Nu-Steel to be very patient and pragmatic in resloving issues which ineviably arouse during the build. Although I had quite detailed drawings of what i wanted to build, I found that in preparing the engineer drawings for Council Nu-steel to be very sympathetic to my original concept - the recommendations they made during this phase were practical in terms of the build rather than what was most convenient. I still have a bit of work to do before the final completion inspection but after all the hard work it now looks just like it did in the drawings. I wouldn't like to say I would do it again but I'm really glad I have done it once. If you have a clear idea about what you want but don't know how to take it forward then Nu-steel are definately worth a serious look at. Steel framing system is very robust and relatively easy to assemble (a good quality tec screw gun and a plumline and you are off and running). Screwing and riviting steel requires more patience and endurance that nailing timber with a nail gun.
Poor – Very poor workmanship, very disorganised site managers. Very slow to build. No one on site for over 2 months at a time. The cost and time to build blew out by over 30%. Please be advised that Nu-Steel homes are owned, managed, supervised and run by the same people as Ian Wood Homes. You may wish to read some of the reviews for Ian Wood Homes too. If I had read them before choosing Nu-Steel, knowing they're one in the same, I would have gone elsewhere. The whole process has been a very expensive disaster. Initial quote seems very competitive but I ended up paying more for a second rate home, than my friends spent on a home twice the size built by one of the more prestigious building companies. I couldn't flaw my friend's house, while mine looks a mess. Disgusting.
First of all, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We genuinely value input from all clients and participants in the industry, as our focus is to rethink the building industry from a client's perspective. We apologise for the delay in our response as your post has only just been brought to our attention.
We are the Master Franchisor for Nu-Steel Homes in Australia, external link . We have set-up a central service delivery model to avoid the potential local operator service issues you describe.
Prior to acquiring the Nu-Steel Homes brand, we inherited existing licencee businesses in Adelaide and Melbourne. These licensees operate as independent businesses.
As mentioned above, the future expansion of Nu-Steel Homes is modeled on local franchisees in a sales-only capacity, so that we can control the design, costing, engineering, approvals and build process with a high-technology central back office, resourced by a motivated and talented team. This business model innovation is a first in Australia, and places our clients in full control.
Although you have been dealing with the incumbent licensee in Adelaide, in the best interests of the Nu-Steel Homes brand we would like to discuss your situation directly and to see if we can help resolve the challenges you are experiencing. If you send me your contact details to support@nshq.com.au I will organise a member of our Client Support team to contact you within one business day.

Just a little update on my review. I attempted to contact Nu Steel Homes as they suggested in their above Comment, and my email was returned. That email address does not exist. So I will take my opportunity to vent here instead. So our window sills continue to rot, whenever it rains we end up with puddles on every internal windo sill. we've spent almost $15,000 on repainting the interior and exterior of our home (we used a specialist interior painter and a seperate exterior painter, not associated with each other, and they both said "I'd give your original painter 1/10 for their efforts"). When the exterior painter put up the scaffolding to paint the render we were overjoyed by the opportunity to safely access our front second story windows to scrub off the tradie's texta that has lasted several rainy seasons better than the windows themselves. Unfortunately we haven't been able to access the top back windows so white texta still remains after 5 years. We still have chipped tiles, chunks of plaster falling off our home, water runs down the internal walls of our home if we use our air-con, consequently our new paint job is blistering off the walls like wall paper and we have stains on our ceilings from water damage. We've spent hundreds of $$$ having flashings shaped to cover holes in our external brickwork that were made by the builders while attempting to find pipes for outdoor taps and spa pumps (none of which were retro-fitted, all were within the original plan). Our down pipes are half bare PVC half painted, and not even neatly, they couldn't be bothered painting them fully before or after installing. Did I mention...when we did our electrical selections we upgraded (and paid a bomb) for fancy light switches of which the builder broke almost all because they obviously never had experience using them. And no, they didn't replace them. We have walls that aren't square, and are obvious because they don't line up with our floor boards. None of our bathroom sinks were properly siliconed so every time I clean I have to ensure I don't get too much water near the edge where the sink meets the laminate bench top or we'll end up with rotting, warped benches to match our window sills. When we made our brick selection, the kind lady from the brick supplier advised us to request our builder use "render bricks" for the front of the house = miss-matched bricks that won't be seen due to render covering and cost much less. Well, our builder said "no, we don't offer that option". But when we popped past to see if there had finally been any progress on the building, we discovered pallets of bricks had been delivered. And going by the date on the invoice stuck to one of the pallets, they'd been there a while, but still no progress. And guess what? Yep, render bricks. But we were charged the full price for proper bricks. When we questioned this, we were dismissed. The builder didn't even bother to cover all areas of visible render bricks with render and to this day we have a patch of visible mismatched bricks at the front, centre of our house. The back, unrendered and visible bricks are nice but there are areas where the mortar is obviously multiple shades lighter than the rest, on a large 10 x 10m wall. There are so many other issues we faced, including punch holes in the wall in our internal stair well caused by the builders carrying ladders up the stairs and bashing them into the walls. Repair of these were added to the cost of the repaint. Surely I've already mentioned the day we were handed our keys? No "congratulations on your new home". Instead: "I need a cheque from you before you get your keys and no, management is not interested in following up on any of the issues you've pointed out. We are done with this job, it has taken long enough. Thanks for the cheque. Here are your keys. Oh, by the way, if you can smell something off, one of the tradie's took a dump in your downstairs toilet and we can't flush it as it's not connected to the mains". He turned, he left. We looked at each other. No celebration. No champagne. We walked straight out of the house and back to our rental property in disbelief. Packing to move into our new home wasn't the exciting time we'd anticipated because before we could even think about moving in, I had to scrub the festering turd of a stranger out of my brand new toilet. That pretty much sums up our experience.
OK – I don't have any experience with other builders so quite difficult to give an opinion. I am satisfied with Construction but not satisfied with management of project. Was good for the price compared to other builders. I have been very disappointed the way Nu-steel has taken care of finishing my house. It's been almost a year from Handover & still there are some areas that need to be fixed. The whole year I have been following up through emails, phone calls every time if I catch with any of the related staff I have been give a new excuse & next date of finishing the job.
