Wildly, utterly, incomprehensibly incompetent. It took them a year to get our solar installed, and then installed it non-compliant. Took them another four months to actually get it working. The whole time they promised “compensation” and told us not to worry. Upon actually getting the system working, they applied a $100 credit and told us the case… Read more

was closed. Then two weeks later they cancelled our payment plan for non payment, because they’d failed to pause the payment plan while they repaired the system. Then they sent it to collections.

Amongst all this, there were dozens of repetitive emails, asking for the same details over and over, because they never entered anything into the system properly. They have probably cost us a full working week on the phone and emailing them, trying to fix their stuff ups.

Utterly rotten and incompetent to the core. DO NOT BUY SOLAR FROM ORIGIN.

Poor customer service – We signed a contract and had a site inspection 3 months ago to install solar and have heard nothing since. Have chased Origin and they said they would get on to the contractors but again we’ve heard nothing for over a week. We do not recommend Origin solar and are now seeking to get out of our contract.

Great installation and performance of system! – I was happy to pay an extra 30% in price compared to othe retailers in order to get a good quality install, with a reliable warranty and no cowboys who will damage my roof! This is exactly what I got with Origin Solar and also got the benefit of 5 years interest free repayments. Why would you bother spending so much for solar only to lose most on supply charges – We changed to Origin energy recently as they actually pay us $0.12 per kWh but the trade off is lost on high supply and usage charges. In the last 28 days we’ve fed in 614.89 kWh and consumption of 202.35 kWh so we’re 412.0 kWh ahead right? wrong. With supply/usage charges of $97.54 we are $25.74 behind. We and others are doing the generating, the whole solar thing is not worth the money to purchase because greed in these electricity suppliers takes all the profit. Would recommend Origin solar – Easy process from start to end. Installation contractor a pleasure to deal with. Work carried out in professional manner. Everything was perfect till installation – After installation things are not right.Feed in tariff confusion and no communication regarding , when my solar was started feeding in to the network. Even after more than a month after installation not recd my electricity invoice and I cant see anything on origin app. Contacted several times and every time answer is within 24 hrs everything will be alright ? Show details

month, I advised him it would be futile to do so, and I restated my financial situation. A few days ago I received a call from the same Origin rep, when I didn't pick up, he sent me an email. I told him no in the the first call with him, obviously Origin don't listen! If I get called by Origin again I will report it to the ombudsman.

Battery installation during mid-2021 and it took more than six months to install the battery. The LG battery (LG Chem RESU10 LV) was installed during early 2022 and from the first day of its installation it’s not fully functional. Don't believe any of Origin advertisements. It is all fake and incorrect. The LG solar battery was installed with the purpose of storing excess solar energy and using it when it is required in the evening, instead of sending it to the grid. However, Origin controls the battery and uses stored energy in the battery and by the evening all stored solar energy goes to grid leaving no stored energy in the battery for night. The cost of the battery was over 7500$ and we paid that cost for no benefit. Despite having a 6KW solar system with a 10KW battery, we are paying on average of > 300$ per month for electricity for 3 persons along with 130$ for battery installments. Origin has an extremely poor after-sales service. During the last 2 years, we have contacted Origin several times to resolve the issue but with no success. If call Origin, they keep on hold for hours. If you are interested in solar battery, please avoid Origin Solar.

After 3 quotes, multiple site visits, and now more than 3 months since my original order, I still don’t have a confirmed solution for my property, a final price, nor a date for installation. Further, during this time the customer support is terrible. Emails go unanswered, no returned phone calls, when you do call them their support team are unable to provide any detail or resolve any issues. The result is that you are left in the dark until someone finally decides to email you an update.

Suggest you consider other suppliers.

Time will tell financially but it probably won't be anywhere near their promises. Let's face it, Origin is geared to profiteer off solar and generate even more money. Especially, as domestically, people are getting off gas as prices have shot through the roof, not to mention the new recently revealed health impacts (probably due to it being more lucrative to export, "public or corporatehealth?). Environmentally, hopefully yes.. The last point was a deciding factor for us. But as said, I will be surprised if after paying it off it actually does provide any tangible savings, maybe a little, but nowhere near what their sales people spruik.

INCOMPETENT – Contacted origin for a quote in July 2023 for solar panels and quote came in quickly all done via phone and email. Quote stated that we have terracotta tiles. No one inspected the property. Arranged the installation for September. We had to confirm the installation two days prior as no one contacted us to confirm. On the day of installation… Read more

the installer arrived with no solar panels, no equipment and on his own to inform us that the job could not proceed due to the terracotta tiles being fragile. We sent an email to Origin stating our disappointment with the service we received and requested someone call us to discuss the matter. NO ONE CAlLLED. We phoned Origin and were informed that we will be contacted as soon as they receive the report from the installer.

After a week we received an phone call to say that they will not be proceeding with the job as they did not have an installer who deals with Teracotta tiles. Unbelievable!

The customer service is zero! An inspection should have been made prior to the quote or at least when the quote was accepted. We waited two and a half months for nothing, we are now dealing with a Company who know their profession.

Read this timeline before you have anything to do with Origin Solar – Objectivity is difficult, so a simple timeline may best explain what to expect. It seems very unlikely that you could make a worse choice: - Booked a consultation in October 2022. sent countless emails, none of which were acknowledged or answered. Phone calls just tell you to email them, and hang up. - I gave up, until a girl from Origin rang me in January to ask how the installation went....she (at last) seemed helpful and competent and arranged for someone to book an installation with a local contractor. - On the designated day, I took a day of work, to see 2 guys arrive with a 6m ladder to put 50 solar panels on an 8m roof. They said they didn't know it was a big house (even though the Origin guy came to the house to quote it) so a wasted day. - They made another appointment after quoting $$ extra for a scissor-lift, which obviously should have been in the original quotation. - So I took another day off. This time they did not show up at all. This is now about Feb 2023 - I want nothing more to do with those clowns, so demand a different contractor. Booked in a some future date, and what seems like a competent installation finally done in March 2023..some 5 months later. - But don't stop reading yet. - The inverter trips faults regularly, and stops producing any power. It will stay that way until you notice and turn it off and on. - Complained to the contractor, they said call Origin. Eventually Origin sent the contractor back out who said it was overvoltage in the street, and lodged an Energex complaint. - Energex arrived within an hour. They left some test equipment in place for a week, and then said that was nonsense. That the inverter would not behave as it does if it was configured correctly. - More emails to Origin, increasingly frustrated - none answered or even acknowledged. Attempted phone calls that tell you to email them. - Now it is late September 2023, almost a year since this started, and I have a $17,000 piece of junk in my garage, and seem to have no alternatives left but to start legal action against Origin.

And do this test for yourself...ring them and instead of choosing the option for New-System, choose the option for Warranty-Support, and see if you get put through to a consultant. Good luck.

Installed incorrectly and now uncontactable – Origin subcontracted the installation to Bay Solar & Electricals. Origin had quoted for 12 panels on the sloped roof to be installed at 20 degrees and 5 on the flat roof installed at 10 degrees. Instead they have installed 6 on the sloped roof at approximately 20 degrees and 12 on the flat roof at just 2 degrees. The JA panel installation guide… Read more

and the Clean Energy Council state a minimum recommended pitch of 10 degrees to be effective. I've therefore requested tilt frames to meet these minimum requirements and the pitch in their quote that I agreed to. It's been 5 weeks since this all happened and over a month since my first and only communication from the Origin case manager Beni who said they'd update me within days. I've tried calling multiple times but they have never been able to put me through. I've also tried emailing the case manager multiple times with no response. My solar isn't connected, they haven't even started the process of getting a smart meter and I have no end date in sight. What's more, the installers have put three big holes in the roof sarking. I would certainly not recommend using Origin, try Solarhart instead.

Absolutely do not recommend! Origin – Signed up for Origin Solar 9 months ago and STILL still waiting for installation. They have blamed Essential Energy (NSW) for the hold up but when I met with Essential to get the bottom of it, found it was the opposite. They should me all the correspondence and it was Origin who is dropping the ball. We’ve now just informed Origin we will not be proceeding. solar span roof the solar system would be most appropriate. Nevermind this was disclosed during sales period. It was agreed at more cost to us that the system would go on a newly build shed at the rear of the property. This effectively cost us many more thousands to run Communication cables to the shed from the house and the phase power would all need to be updated as well as other install works beyond the scope quoted (Again fine) This change also meant we should remove 2 very old and very large trees in the yard to maximize the solar (again fine- add additional 10k cost) .... This is where the issues started. Whilst the trees were being removed and the system had yet to be installed the tree lopper was struggling with the low hanging powerline between the trees and potentially snapping the line into the yard. He requested as a matter of safety if we could arrange for the power line to be disconnected for the day to prevent this being a deadly situation as the large branches were hitting it on the way down. We had our electrician on site coincidently doing other work, so this was arranged promptly and as it was already being taken down they decided to upgrade the phase power then and charged us for the work- which we paid. We have subsequently been charged for the phase power upgrade by the installer who knew prior to the install it had been upgraded. Origin said too bad " Its inconvenient that you already had the work done and now the installer is out of pocket for that work) We have been back and forward for over 8 months and they will not budge on this $1900 fee just for the inconvenience stating they hired equipment to complete ( Job was completed by our electrician with a ladder) Absolutely no customer consideration. MOST TERRIBLE COMPANY IVE EVER DEALT WITH! Yes I'm yelling, the many many hours i have spent arguing this fee and how the system is not achieving in this current financial climate has almost given me a twitch or a stutter!!! Seriously its really impacted me. Agreed solar rate has never been applied- getting 5c p/KW vs contracted price. Solar doesn't even generate close to the averages that were promised on blaring hot days with not a cloud in sight. I'm being absolutely harassed by their solar payments team if my monthly payment is even a day late, regardless that's its been paid or that they owe me money. I'm currently $3k IN ADVANCE IN MY ELECTRICITY BILL AS I PAY OVER AND BEYOND, AND THATS STILL THE TREATMENT I GET. AVOID ORIGIN SOLAR AT ALL COSTS. IF I COULD RIP IT OFF MY SHED I WOULD!!!

Doesn't stack up – The salesmen will promise you great tariffs but when the page comes for you to sign the tariffs are missing. Verbally they say you are fine so make sure you get any agreed tariff in writing. Promised electricity at $0.21 per kwh and charged $0.29 per KWh within 3 months of the install. Calling the call centre takes forever and you are shuffled all over the place. I would never use them again. Show details

Quick sales service, poor customer service. The Solar Boost offer was a mirage – I have been quoted for a 5kW system back in September when not only Origin had a fast response for quote and installation timeframes but also had interesting feed in tariffs (14c-20c per kWh at the time with their solar boost offer). By mid-October the system was installed by subcontractors and ready to be used. After that, it’s all been 3 months… Read more

of time wasted on the phone and writing lengthy emails to Origin to inquire about issues that they were not willing and able to solve in a timely manner.

First, we were told after installation that our meter had to be changed to be able to track our energy use and feed it in back to the grid. A request was created on the 4th of November. The work was meant to be done within 21business days. It took almost two months for them to resolve this. I won’t go into details about the poor communication from Origin, namely them requesting then cancelling days to carry the work for the new meter installation over the November- December period.

January, our system is finally operational and now that I am able to subscribe to the Origin solar boost, however, I am only offered the current 8c/kWh contract for 12months.

I send Origin an email to ask for a commercial gesture and give me some kind of special tariff. They do not bother to answer me or explain why I could not benefit from the offer they originally advertised to me. Instead, they simply sign me up without me consenting to this.

I am wondering, with the surge of new customers going solar, whether Origin has been planning to delay simple procedures to back down on their commercial offers. I would not recommend their services.

Origin Energy during the first phone call that we were booked for meter check in approximately 20 days from 7 November 2022. Various phone calls to Origin Energy and 6 emails with no success Contacted the Electricity & Water Ombudsman (EWON)on 15 December 2022 for assistance. I received a call from a customer service agent from Origin on 16 December 2022. He assured my husband & myself that a meter check would be arranged in 15 working days. That means that we have waited well in advance of the total 35 working days as advised by Origin staff. It is now well past that 15 days & we still have received no advice as to when the meter check is to be completed The after sales service with Origin Energy is non existent. Tomorrow, 30th January I will contact EWON again.
