I will never cruise with P&O again. I left my 2023 NZ P&O cruise with $500 owing to me which I was never able to get a refund for once I left the ship. I dont like being ripped off and I'm still annoyed. The cruise itself was fine for what it cost - but spoilt by the post cruise lack of service, and by the treatment we received once we had a… Read more

positive COVID test in the last couple of days. While isolated in our cabin we had to ring multiple times to get any service, had no water on our last day despite many requests, and they kept reassuring me they'd look into the refunds (one of which was for an excursion that was cancelled that they refunded and then re-charged me for). However I still hadnt received the refunds or even heard anything from them by the time they dumped the COVID people out the side of the ship with no customs/passport clearance, to mingle and spread our germs with the other passengers who had disembarked by the normal process (many of whom also had COVID but hadnt reported it). I had been warned that you never get a refund once you've left the ship and it's true. I tried for about 9 months - multiple emails, waiting for hours at a time on hold, getting a different person every time, they kept fussing about some unrelated credit I was apparently entitled to but didn't want, they kept coming up with excuses about why they couldn't deal with the refund there and then, but never followed up or got back to me, there would never be any record of my previous calls, at one point they even claimed I'd received the refund even though I was able to provide documentary evidence that I hadn't - etc, etc, etc. I eventually did what they were obviously hoping I'd do and gave up because it was stressful and wasting so much of my time. I'm about to embark on my next cruise (one of two I'm doing this year and definitely not with P&O) and so I was reminded to finally write this review. I will keep in mind lessons learned about cruising - 1. always ensure to sort out any refunds while still on the ship, and 2. unless there's mandatory reporting of illness, chances are you'll be in the minority if you do report and isolate - and will be penalised by being disregarded and ignored while stuck in the cabin.

Gaming and accommodation packages unregulated – Pacific Adveturer is a mid tier vessel Cruise prices are kept low by using shopping and gaming as ship income. Making profits from passengers. were not responded to. Phone calls were not returned. Yet with current cruises P&O is offering upgrades. So they do have space available

Is it that their left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing? Or is it the cruises using sleight of hand to deal an attractive offer to future passengers and then administration not delivering

Either way the feeling is like getting two good cards in blackjack and then blowing on a third. P&O needs to play fairer with gamblers and free sailing offers.

1st class – First class service from our suite stewards Valento and Jagdish we truly felt spoilt. What a lovely short break away on a comedy cruise. The restaurants included in our fare were excellent. . We booked and paid for a 3 course meal at Luke Mangans bar and grill for our 1st night. Amazing is all I can say. Show details ·  1

P&O Shore Tours - Terrible to Deal With – We went on a cruise to Vanuatu July/August , first & last time on P&O/Carnival. Looking at Shore Tours a week out from sailing, on Vanuatu, we had the choice of visiting a Turtle Sanctuary and Conservatory sailing on a large yacht (photo was included on website and also downloaded brochure) or horse riding but settled on the yacht, turtles and… Read more

diving. The cost was AU$229.99 each.

Well when we arrived for the yacht cruise and turtle sanctuary conservatory tour, our guide said that we were heading out on this two story ferry and they had told all their partners, including P&O that the Turtle Sanctuary Conservatory tour was no longer offered.

The food prep on the boat was right beside the toilet and when I had to go later in the day, there was water and urine 3cm deep sloshing all around - disgusting.

On our return to the Pacific Adventure, we went immediately to the Travel Booking Concierge and briefed them on all that occurred where they sympathised with us, asked if we could write it down to send back to the office and provided a Complaint number for reference and gave us a $30 On Board Credit and said that their office would contact us when we returned to discuss a full/partial refund - all very nice.

After being home for 3 weeks and not hearing anything, I tried calling to follow-up but no-one in the office had any record of my complaint so I explained and they said they would follow up and get back to me.

Two weeks later the same thing and two weeks later again.

So I then sent them an email with my grievances and still nothing so followed up with another call where I was told that they had reviewed it and they considered the $30 OBC sufficient and they had closed the case I disagreed with them closing it as they had not answered any of my questions or provided replies to my comments. This was on a Tuesday and they promised to have their decision in writing sent to me by the Friday.

Anyway, when their email arrived I was dumbfounded as they said on the brochure the Turtle Sanctuary Conservatory Tour was not included and provided the new link, which they updated the day after I initially let them know and provided proof in a copy of their brochure I kept that it was included.

Where I had mentioned that the same brochure clearly included a photo of a yacht within it, their response was that was for illustrative purposes only.

They have since refused to answer any other questions I have put to them, especially around the falseness of their claims and are just gaslighting me hoping I will go away.

This episode was supposed to be the highlight of our tour and their failure to apologise for their mis-representation of the facts and provide any kind of recompense has left us both disappointed and angry.

Our bookings were made through a 3rd party club membership and they said that they will take up our comments with P&O.

We will never sail with P&O / Carnival again and would not recommend them to any friends.

THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS – I want to express my disappointment regarding the recent incidents experienced aboard the P&O Adventure cruise ship in April 2024, my 5-year-old daughter sustained a deep cut on her foot from the pool gutter guards. We promptly sought medical assistance, where she received treatment and was advised to refrain from walking or getting her foot wet… Read more

for 48 hours.

Later that day, I filed a security report at the pool, where the officer made alarming remarks about the pool drains potentially moving due to water movement, attributing the incident to design faults. These drains are integral to the pool area and are located along walkways, making them difficult to avoid. No action was taken to address the hazard even after I provided photographic evidence over subsequent days.

Moreover, despite assurances from security that Guest Services would follow up, we received no contact the next day. We were left without any assistance or even a simple inquiry about our daughter's well-being, contradicting what this company, Carnival is all about. When I visited Guest Services seeking an update, I was met with indifference and a lack of empathy. Even after requesting to speak with a manager, the response remained inadequate, culminating in a dismissive attitude towards our concerns.

The subsequent mold issue in our cabin further exacerbated our dissatisfaction. Our belongings were affected, and despite efforts to cover and address the mold, it continued to grow throughout our stay. This negligence regarding health and safety standards is unacceptable and has significantly marred what was meant to be a joyful family holiday.

These incidents have not only impacted our daughter's ability to enjoy the cruise but have also disrupted our entire family's experience. I urge P&O and Carnival to address these serious matters promptly and provide a resolution that reflects your duty of care to guests. It is crucial that such lapses in customer service and maintenance are rectified to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.

After weeks of receiving no response from P&O, I resorted to calling their customer relations hotline, only to be hung up on multiple times. It was frustrating to encounter a situation where the person handling customer relations did not even identify themselves with the company name or their own name, leaving me to initiate the conversation and inquire about their identity. This lack of basic professionalism was bewildering and disappointing.

Finally, after another week passed, I received a generic response from our supposed case manager in May 2024:

I regret to learn you were unhappy with the overall presentation of your cabin. Please know that we endeavour to maintain all exterior and interior furnishings and appointments on all our vessels in optimum condition. Routine maintenance and upkeep is performed on an ongoing basis and is generally scheduled at times that will have minimal impact on passengers. We are sorry this was not your experience. Your concerns will be forwarded to appropriate senior management for review and future planning.

Again, no mention of our daughter and the incident that occurred on board just a here is a generic email we send all complaining customers about our dirty ship.

No care at all with this company.

I will continue to share our disappointing experience with friends and family until we receive a satisfactory response. It is essential that P&O, soon to be Carnival takes responsibility for these failures and takes steps to ensure they do not recur.

Carnival and P&O you are in the customer service business but you fail on so many levels.

Book another cruise line that cares.

A must to go to the Trattoria restaurant – I am writing a review about the Trattoria restaurant on the pacific adventure. I was on cruise V450. cannot fault the food it was scrumptious. I will say that Luke’s restaurant was very poor the food was cold and we felt rushed to finish our courses. We may have ordered a few starters but that should not cause the following courses to be cold. But the staff at the Trattoria were fantastic, we did not feel rushed and everything was excellent food and service.

Disappointing experience on V449 P&O – Disappointing Experience on the V449 Cruise I recently took the V449 cruise to Tangalooma from Sydney with P&O, celebrating my birthday with an upgrade to the Byron Beach Club. Unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations and truly disappointing. Let’s start with customer service — it was consistently poor. At every meal, I had to… Read more

repeatedly request a booster chair for my 3-year-old son, despite dining at the same venues with the same staff each time. Each request was met with huffing and grumpy responses, showing a complete lack of attentiveness. Simple child-friendly touches, like providing drawing materials, were neglected. When I asked for a drawing paper, I got one without colouring pencils. A spring roll ordered for my son arrived drenched in chilli sauce — completely inappropriate for a toddler.

Adding to the disappointment, I was told there would be a cake and a birthday song to celebrate my special day. This never happened, and there wasn’t even an acknowledgment of my birthday. It was a significant letdown, especially given the upgraded experience we paid for.

The Byron Beach Club upgrade was also a major disappointment. It was hyped as a premium / priority experience, but it added no real value. Besides a slightly spacious cabin, the service and amenities (stale fruit) were nothing special and certainly not worth the extra cost.

The staff generally seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Directions to venues were given with vague gestures, rarely accompanied by a smile or greeting. It felt like most of the crew were unhappy to be there, which dampened the atmosphere.

For families, the lack of entertainment options for children was a huge letdown. The only activity for kids was the Turtle Cove, a small, unimpressive room. Beyond that, there was nothing designed to keep children entertained or engaged.

Food at The Pantry was another disappointment — long queues, boring options, and poor quality. The seafood was overcooked and only available in the form of paella. This was far from the variety and quality I had expected.

Room service was inconsistent and inadequate. Across four days, we never received fresh towels, and beach towels were not replenished. The room was not tidied, leaving us feeling neglected.

It’s clear this cruise is designed for those who want to drink and don’t have high standards for service or food. However, for families or anyone seeking great customer service, quality dining, and engaging entertainment all in one, this is not the cruise for you.

I cannot recommend this cruise, especially for families or those celebrating special occasions. P&O fell far short of the mark in delivering a memorable experience.

Could learn from the other cruise liners – First of all, the cabin. Clean, lots of hangers, safe, fridge, handy Oz sockets and best of all the very comfortable bed. Outstanding! Pantry was ok, but a lot of it was cold. The food in the two restaurants we went (Angelo ‘s and Dragon Lady) was poor. My wife had a fish stew that was truly abysmal! I paid for a steak which was overcooked, tiny and tasteless. The tiramisu was stale and dry. I can safely say that none of the food was up to scratch. The wine tasting incidentally was excellent. Top it all off, I went to a cafe to buy a croissant. I queued up for 10-15 minutes (a lot of the cafes seemed to be seriously under staffed) only for one of the staff to take the trays of croissants away. When I said I’d been waiting patiently the staff member told me they were there for display only. There were a fair number of people eating the displays all around me!

self serve or line up with your plate. Also very ordinary. Breakfast menu same each day. Could not even order yoghurt. No orange juice, apple or tropical only. The Oasis pool area and bar was great. No screaming children. It was very busy and you had to wait for a deck chair. People reserved these by putting towels/shoes on them. This happened each day with passangers not returning to them for up to 4 hours. No staff would help with this problem. Reception staff were not well trained. We received incorrect information the two times we attended there. This lead to frustration and some very unhappy customers. It would be good if the gym had an attendant to help with machines. The frustration was evident with machines not working that could have been easily reset if you had the knowledge. Drinks were very expensive far more than we expected. Arrival and departure procedures went very smoothly for us. There was no lining up, straight on and off. We would think twice about going on this ship again.

Terrible customer service experience on booking – I can't talk about the cruise itself but the booking process has been a nightmare.Absolutely abysmal customer service. take almost half a day's leave from work while I spent several hours on chat and phone trying to get someone at P&O to understand that WE HAD PAID via the booking form and the bank had confirmed the payment HAD been made to P&O.

The problem seemed to be a result of the fact it was a last-minute booking so they had to pay for the full amount at the time of booking. They clicked on the pay button and the credit card payment duly went through. Or so we thought. It was showing in their bank statement as "pending" for days and meanwhile the booking was showing it as unpaid.

When I contacted customer service and explained what had happened they just kept saying it had to be paid in "Cruise control" and that was it. They didn't seem to understand that the initial booking directed us to pay at the P&O booking site (not badged "Cruise control") and they needed to work out where payments on that site ended up! They could only suggest that we send a message from the website with screenshots showing the process and confirmation on banking site that it had been paid. You can't actually send anything direct to the customer service staff so they can sort it out! We finally got a reply - 10 DAYS LATER and far too late for the cruise - so luckily we had found another solution in the meantime.

Now my parents are being bombarded with requests to bid on an upgrade, adding insult to injury. It would have been a nice gesture for P&O to offer them a free upgrade given the enormous amount of stress this caused them. Friends keep asking me to go on a cruise together but I don't think we will be going on P&O at any point given this awful experience.

Alright... I guess? – ***** Pros: - Value for money, you literally get what you pay for in terms of budget accommodation and budget food. It must be incredibly difficult working on a cruise ship when you never get days off to… Read more

yourself to recover (even if it's just mentally). You can't even take a wellbeing day to yourself if you can't escape the ship. The few grumpy staff I encountered were able to be turned around with a bit of warmth and compassion. - Always plenty of activities if you're into non-stop itinerary of things to do. - Nice views from the decks - Bridge team (particularly the captain) were informative and professional - Most of the crowd control for tours, events, embarking and disembarking were managed well and didn't feel stressful - Choice of various places to eat and drink so you had options to decide on what you preferred. - Coffee at the coffee shops were surprisingly good (forget the pantry coffee though, yuck!) - Restaurant and Housekeeping staff were excellent! - It was nice to see all the various staff departments being involved in some of the celebrations and events onboard. - Beds were amazingly comfortable

****** Cons:

- In a captive audience environment, you're charged left, right and centre for almost everything you see or want. The original price you paid for the cruise will likely be double by the time your trip is over. It feels as though some things are deliberately offered at a poorer quality to encourage you to pay for things that are decent (not excellent, but decent) quality.

- The photos were outrageously priced. $35 per single photo including a physical and jpeg copy? For the price of 8 photos, I could have purchased a new decent camera and taken them myself! Or better still, not spend any money and use a smartphone to take them. Some of the photographers were quite aggressive at times, particularly when taking photos in the restaurants. I was coerced to have a photo taken while I had a mouthful of food. Did they think I was going to buy that one?

- Pantry food was pretty average. No better than your local run down suburban RSL that hadn't had a proper menu change in about 20 years. Food was all carbs, fat, high sugar and fried mostly. There was plenty available, nothing ever ran out, but certainly catered to the clientele onboard. Didn't expect luxury, but it would have been great to have more healthy options available that aren't going to bloat you or make you feel horrible after each meal.

- Some of the activities felt a little on the lower end of the budget. The live performances were great, but everything else felt repetitive, costly and boring after a day or two. Why did you have to monetise bingo? It should have been fun just to play without having to pay (or in other words, gamble). The bingo daily jackpots were also farcical. The odds of achieving what was needed to nab the jackpot were very unrealistic.

- It's mentioned in many other posts about the unsupervised kids and it's completely true. Kids running around at all hours of the day and night and parents appear to be unwilling to control behaviour. Of course, families and kids are expected on ships, but maybe curfews would be fairer to everyone and section kids off to certain parts of the ship (decks 8-10 are kid friendly and the rest are adults only for example) You can hear kids running up and down corridors all the time and it's not enjoyable.

- Prizes at the various good times activities could have been more generous. Considering how much additional money the cruise company if fleecing off people, why not offer more prizes like free cruises or discount cruises or free drinks package or internet or photos.. something other than a magnet!)

- Decor around the ship was very outdated, tired, boring, cheap looking. Might have been alright 20 years ago, but it hasn't aged well at all.

- The lifts to get up and down decks were such a time waster and constantly frustrating. Most had technical issues, skipped floors, broke down, were slow to move, doors painfully slow and often dirty with glasses and food left behind.

- Drinks package system was kinda insulting. You pay for your package, and they only allow you to take one drink at a time, even though all you need to do is walk away and come back to request another one. Why do you make patrons jump through hoops to access what they've already paid for? On the premium drinks package, you can access 6 bottles of water per day, but unlimited soft drinks which are poured from cans (not post mix). Why are you limiting the healthy option but making the unhealthy option unlimited even though they are both supplied as a packaged product?

- Premium internet package was pretty average for the cost. $200+ for the duration of the cruise per person and it was slightly better than dial up internet speeds and connection drop outs regularly. Forget about watching any streaming services from any devices.

They added another one which was not a nice place at all, and stopped for 4 hrs. No activities or anything during days. Food was ok,… Read more

staff were ok, cabin was ok, old and made a lot of creaking noise. All the guests got sick as well, I was VERY happy to get off the ship. Will never ever set foot on another cruise ship again, this was my first experience and last.

Terrible . Worst boat we have been on – Terrible cruise line . 12 days sailing and only two ports , they use weather as an excuse last minute and don’t go to port of call. Food is similar every day and not at good standards at all. Both my younger boys where locked in elevator while dropping a level down for a long time , we where not informed about this until the kids where collected… Read more

from kids club and where crying hysterically. Very very unprofessional and worst cruise line to travel on. I’m so disappointed that I’m writing review while still on cruise . Stuck on here for another 5 nights with no where to go . P&0 is at the bottom of all levels of cruise lines do not go on one you will be wasting your money .

Disappointing - Last time P&O – Have just returned from 10 night cruise, apart from wonderful hospitality staff and cabin stewards, very disappointed with cruise. It took 2 hours just to board ship, no seating provided for elderly. No access to P&O app after 3 visits to your internet “specialist” advised issues and not available, could not book shuttles because those with app… Read more

booked them all and we had to go open at 11.00, could not get seats at nightly shows. I had to go to one of the restaurants each day to confirm dinner bookings because no access to app and booking kept changing without notice. Laundry token machine broke down twice on deck 10, 5 hours later still not repaired on first time broken. After reporting token machine out of order was told to go to guest services for tokens, I had extra tokens which I gave out to passengers in their 70s that had already loaded machines with no tokens available. A long walk for them to go to guest services to get tokens. Beware at Lilly’s Cafe as we just received a copy of our account by email when we arrived home, charged $34.00 two times for one espresso coffee and skim milk hot chocolate on each occasion. Ask for a receipt when you order as we are not the only passengers this happened to. No activities in the day to replace port stops in Noumea and Lifou. Not enough activities on ship. Most were run out of Adventure Hotel wth not enough seating. Best thing about cruise was cabin stewards 10/10 and Luke’s Bar, genuine drinks, not watered down, pleasant staff. I enjoy a drink but I now see see P&O as a floating RSL, catering only to drinkers and gamblers because that is where they are getting their revenue from. Back to Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I know Carnival are same company as P&O but much better run cruise ships. I do hope Carnival does not take on the P&O ideas of running a cruise ship when they take over Encounter and Adventure next year.

No refund of port charges for cancelled visit – Currently on board Pacific Adventure. Port visit to Noumea was cancelled because of current civil disturbance. Fair enough. What’s not fair is P&O not refunding port charges and taxes.. At the customer services desk on Pacific Adventure i was told it’s not P&Os policy to refund port charges and taxes. Beyond that, other things we’ve noticed are… Read more

tissues no longer supplied in cabin (or anywhere else), cabin furniture broken (see photo)and broken/worn side table lamps (see photos), broken shower head (see photo), and disinfectant wipes removed from the gym - no longer can you wipe down gym equipment before and after use. That seems strange given their stated commitment to heath and hygiene. It’s time for us to look for a different cruise line. P&O is no longer for us. PS we reported the broken lamp on day 2. Ten days later when the cruise ended the lamp shade was still sitting on the side table unprepared.

P&O Pacific Adventure cruise failure – Food was below standard and overall standard has significantly dropped with P&O cruises. Will not be cruising with P&O again and would not recommend them Show details

Cruise Experience

First family cruise a disaster ! – My family and i booked two cabins on the pacific explorer for the Tangalooma cruise from 6th - 10th may this year. I see someone else has left a review for this cruise also, however, our experience was much different to that. We were supposed to board at 1pm-1.30pm but because of the man overboard incident we were told to go into darling harbour… Read more

and kill time because our new boarding time was 7.30pm. We went into darling harbour with our young kids and an 18month old baby which was a real mission we didnt account for, we had out of pocket expenses for meals and transport. We got back to white bay terminal at 6.30pm to meet up with the other 2000 passengers waiting to board all at once. What an absolute nightmare ! We sailed out through the harbour at 12.30am apparently cause my family was in bed exhausted. The cabin crew were great but on the second/ third day there was a terrible diesel smell on our deck 10 that was terrible, all the towels smelt like diesel and i couldnt work out why at the time but i believe i have uncovered why now. While on the cruise after the smell i noticed some small bugs in the bathroom crawling around but i didnt bother saying anything at the time. When my kids and i returned home we had bites all over us with uncontrollable itchiness. We went to the doctors soon after and it was confirmed infected bed bug bites. I fully understand and accept that there were tragic circumstances on the cruise prior to ours, however, this was no fault of ours and put us all on a terrible footing for the rest of the cruise. On contacting p and o we are disgusted that they just brush us off with excuses and clauses that cover them but not us.
