Awful in regard to just one year of useful service before it broke down – We had the same problem of the unit working well for perhaps one year, then the steam stopped and clicking started. My brother was not impressed by how well it worked at the best of its functioning, and we have reverted to using a regular steam/dry iron (~$70 Tefal FV3456z). He thought it was not worth getting the Philips fixed at any price. This… Read more

is the second Philips product we've owned in recent years which has worked only a few months longer than the warranty period (the other was a soundbar) and I doubt I could trust buying the brand again. We bought the Philips at half price from Harris Scarfe, but that was still at least four times the actual worth of this product.

Not what expected of Philips – A great iron when it worked. It was expensive but worth it at the time. I have the same issue as others. No steam and a constant clicking sound. Disappointing to say the least. I would have expected much better. Philips is a brand that I trust but this has been a let down.  Show details

Philips GC8560 – I agree with all the comments here. An expensive iron which doesn't last the distance. Will not be buying a Philips product again. This was a major splurge for me and I'm thoroughly tee'd off with the lack of quality in this product. Initially worked well but now can't raise any steam. In the bin just like my opinion of Philips.  Show details

Good when it worked for a short time – Initially I loved this iron with the large water tank, long ironing time and steam but........ after less than 100 hours, it had the problems that everyone else reports. It has a constant clicking noise and no stream. This was not cheap so I think I will have to unfortunately invest in another brand. I see why they discontinued it.  Show details

I agree - Good when it worked – The iron work well for about a year, then the steam kept stopping. If you turned the steam control knob off then on again the steam would work for a short time. But you had to keep doing this to get steam. I contacted the service number and given a service centre in Coburg Victoria. The technician said it had an internal leak and could not be… Read more

repaired in Australia. I again rang the service centre 1300 363 391, they stated that they were only a call centre and could not help. After some time discussing my options as it was still under warrenty they said they would contact the national manager and then get back to me..... been a week and I have not heard anything.

Good when it worked! – Initially, I was very happy with my GC 8560. It was a breeze to use and very effective in steaming etc. I hadn't used it a great deal before things started to go wrong. The annoying clicking sound, leaking water and a failure to actually produce any steam were the three main problems. I would have been lucky to have had 50 hours of work out of… Read more

it. Probably a good thing this model has been discontinued as I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I was very disappointed, and have now bought myself a regular, much cheaper, irom. The GC 8560 will be going out in the rubbish.

Clicking Sound – Non stop clicking sound and steam button does not work, so annoying. After calling a repair company in Seven hills recommended by Phillips, I was told by service technician to toss out! :( What an expensive investment! Won't buy Phillips again. Also disappointing that Phillips themselves don't have a technician to talk to over the phone.

Loved the iron, but now leaks water – Loved the iron initially, but now leaks water continuously and is out of warranty. When it was working , I liked the dual button system, steam and of steam. Made ironing easier, just disappointed that it didn't last the distance. It's not a cheap no name steam iron, it was expensive. Do Philips expect you to buy a new iron every couple of years?

I love this iron however, it's leaking dirty spots on my clothes – This iron had cut my ironing time down by half. It's nice and light weight, it use to do a great job until recently (it's 18 months old), the descale doesn't seem to be working properly. There is dirty water coming out of the iron and no matter how many times I try to descale and empty, these dirty spots just keep pouring out of it, almost as if… Read more

there's something corrosive inside. I had to bleach a brand new blouse and then it fell apart so I'm most upset. No idea what to do other than return it to The Good Guys and ask for it to be serviced.

But it keeps fusing my house – I loved my iron but can't use it now as it keeps fusing the entire house. I have cleaned it but it makes no difference. Living with crinkles, and having to borrow my daughters ordinary iron .  Show 3 replies

Disappointed – I initially loved this iron. It was the first expensive iron I had invested in. With four children and full time work I thought it would help cut my ironing time. However after just under two years it leaks all over my clothes. They end up saturated and I can no longer use the iron. An expensive iron like this should last a whole lot longer than this.

This Iron is awesome!! – Bought this iron in June of this year after our 17 year old Philips iron gave up the ghost. This iron makes ironing a breeze compared to the traditional iron. They are pretty expensive compared to the traditional iron, if ironing is not your favourite past time, would recommend buying one. By the way I still would like to get old Philips fixed I think the heating element is not working because it still powers up. crease buster  Show 3 replies

Clicking noise issue the same as CathyR – I have the same issue, the only problem is this is the second iron as it was replaced last year due to the same fault. The iron usually works really well but it does not operate correctly when this obviously inherent fault occurs. Looks like I'll have to take it back and replace it for the second time unless someone knows how to fix this problem. Other than this issue the iron is good Powerful steam Clicking noise

Would never go back to a traditional iron – I really like this iron which I have had for about a year now. I love the large water reservoir and the (more or less) continuous steam which means I iron faster, though I do have one problem with it; The constant clicking noise it makes when the steam button is used, which appears to me be something to do with the water feeding through. I put… Read more ·  3

up with it now but it is really annoying to my family if I am ironing at night whilst watching TV. Is this noise normal? large water resevoir, efficient ironing clicking noise whilst using steam button

Very disappointed – I bought this iron as it had such a good review. The first one leaked as soon as I put water in it so I returned it and got a replacement. Then the replacement was faulty and left my clothes very wet that I had to put them outside to dry. Not happy with this product. Cord recoil

What did I do without it? – I've had this Iron for a week now and I am in Heaven! I used to hate ironing and ever since I brought this iron home I've found myself going through the linen closet looking for more things to iron. I know it sounds crazy but the iron is absolutely fabulous! It makes ironing enjoyable, if you can believe it. I find it very peaceful ironing… Read more ·  1

now. The Iron is very easy to use, and takes minimal effort to create an outstanding job on everything I've ironed. I only wished I'd had a steam iron 20 years ago. I told my daughter who is 22 that I'll by her a steam generator iron when she eventually moves out because I don't want her going most of her life having the horrible job of ironing and dreading it like I did. I was very luck to get this iron and the incredible price of $219.00 as I think they are discontinuing this model. For what reasons I wouldn't know as this iron is excellent. I consider myself very lucky to find this deal but knowing what I know now and experiencing this iron I would have happily paid full price and been very satisfied. I cant comment on how long this iron will last as I've only just got it, but i'm hoping it will be with me for years to come. There is a 2 year warranty which i'm happy with. Last but not least, it heats up very quickly and the steam pressure is brilliant. Good job Philips and thanks for making my life a little easier and enjoyable!! I liked that it was sturdy, I liked the water reservoir was easily removed and could easily be filled up at any time during your ironing session without having to turn the iron off. I like the retractable cord, it's very easy to set up and put away. Nothing yet, i can't think of any con, other than it's a little heavy but that's also a good point. It doesn't feel like it will fall apart like some items you buy today.

changed my life – I am not an ironer. I hate it. I bought this iron because I thought it might make ironing easier and maybe a bit more fun. And I was right. This iron is fantastic, so easy and halves your ironing time. I do not regret this purchase one bit, even though it was expensive. makes ironing so quick

A different way to iron – I'd only used traditional irons prior to buying the GC8560. Initial thoughts - $499 for an iron!! Fortunately local dept stores were discounting by 40% and 50% during summer sales which allowed me to consider it. To see the value, I had to understand that these units use a very different principle to traditional irons. Normal irons rely on… Read more

the high temperature of the soleplate supplemented by a very small amount of steam generated within the iron itself. These new fangled 'steam system' irons have very little heat in the sole plate and rely entirely on a constant feed of high pressure and high volume steam from the base/steam unit to the iron. This means:

- no burnt fabric

- a lighter 'iron' unit.

- faster ironing - much less back and forth and hard pressing

- steam penetration does two layers of fabric in one pass for sleeves and trouser legs.

I haven't tried any other makes or models, but the Philips GC8560 certainly works as advertised. It is brilliant.

Rated power usage is similar to traditional irons, so if I can iron faster I save power.

The downside: If like me, you store your iron in the laundry and carry it into a living area to iron, then you're storing and carrying a system that is much bigger than just an iron. (the GC8560 weighs 5.5kg - more than a big bag of spuds). The base/steam unit is also feels too big and awkward to sit safely on the end of a standard folding ironing board - I sit the steam unit on high wooden stool next to the board. This works fine.

The steam system iron also makes a some noise - but not enough to prevent me from comfortably watching TV while I iron.

I've only had it a few weeks. I will be very interested to see how durable and long lasting it is, given the additional complexity in this type of ironing system. Genuinely makes ironing quicker and easier Price and size. Much more expensive than a traditional iron. The overall system is bigger and heavier than a traditional iron.

Bargain price, bargain result – I'm so happy I bought this iron in a big bargain price $220 which is more than 50% discount off $499. Unfortunately, the ironing result is relatively came down 50% compare with my broken Tefal iron. Don't expect it can iron 1 side for 2, must turn and iron the other side even a T-shirt, not 100% flat and smooth for shirt and linen. In… Read more

addition, the design of iron has real problems (i) too bulky and not in a sharp that can reach the corner of the clothes; (ii) the base of the iron has a gap which can easily stick to the bottom or edge and caused a messy; and (iii) the pump is too noisy.

Good product for people who has never used this kind of steam iron but I will return it to the shop and get the refund to fix my old Tefal iron. Good price Can't iron 1 side to 2nd layer

Best buy – This steam generator makes ironing a breeze. Very easy to use and make ironing so much easier and quicker. Also like the lock feature where you can lock the iron to the steam generator for easy storage. Make ironing easier
