The tyres are performing as expected. The chaps that installed the tyres were profession and safety conscious in every way. I am very impressed with the service. Regards Keith Show details
Best tyre upgrade on my Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Very comfortable on the road, no road noise, and they look beefy. Show details
We've had these for just over a year been good tyres but we have had 3 busted tyres within that time 1 blew out the side wall as we were driving along and Pirelli refused to replace it even under warranty. They have cost us more than we would've liked as we had Pirelli on a previous car and they lasted well but this type did not very disappointed and won't be choosing Pirelli again Show details
Best tyres I've purchased for my 4x4 and drive smooth and also no problem going off road as well.. love them Show details
Ive had the Pirelli Scorpion tyres before. But the AT Plus version is significantly better. The vehicle feels more controlled and directional when in the wet and dry. Only used in light off-road and on road conditions at this point. Fantastic whilst towing. Highly recommended upgrade. Show details
Mobile Tyre Shop fitted the tyres, easy, quick and done at home - simples! I've found the Scorpion AT's great so far (only early days done about 1600 km's on them) haven't had them offroad yet but on road they handle great, especially in the wet they feel surefooted, no issues other than minor noise increase over the factory HT's (but you have to… Read more
expect that). So far so good :-) EDIT: 6500 kms on them now and no issues, great tyre on and offroad. Have had them on the beach, gravel/mud - no dramas. Also haven't noticed any increase in noise so far.
Great grip in the wet as well as the dry. Show details · 1
Exceeded expectations on dirt – Purchased these in March 2022 for our Isuzu Mux and have done 30,000kms including towing a caravan for 75% of these kms. Also travelled the Gibb River road twice including Mitchell Falls and had no issues. The rear tyres would need replacing if I had not rotated them, however I expected this from my experience with towing with my previous… Read more
Bridgestone H/T tyres. They are as quiet on the bitumen and as good in the wet as the the previous Bridgestone H/T tyres. They are more expensive than some of the other A/T tyres, however there are few options in the 255/60/R18 112H size.
Great A/T Tyre – My new Toyota Fortuner came with factory issued Dunlop Grandtek A/T tires. I swapped them out for the Pirelli Scorpion A/T the very next day. I drive on country roads most of the time. These tires feel like they're glued to the road surface, so sure footed. They are confidence building, great in the wet, amazing on gravel, rock, when crossing… Read more
flowing creeks and even mud. The fortuner is known for it's firm ride and these tires don't improve on that. They are a fraction less comfortable than the original Dunlops but are quiet. When you hit an imperfection in the road surface they don't reverberate for any length of time or distance, they simply absorb the shock, you only feel it once and that's it. They deliver a more confident ride in all situations. Highly recommended
Great tyre – 17000 km only so far on Pajero Sport. Started at 10 mm have used about 2 mm. I have found grip on asphalt wet or dry to be excellent. Have been off-road in serious sand and again grip and handling excellent. Not very noisy. Good stability on dirt roads. Well, now up to 30,000 and still pleased. Retains grip and handling on and off road, wearing… Read more · 1
across whole tyre evenly. Should see 45,000. Taking to snow? in August, see how that goes. Fine in snow, now at 45,000 and still going. Grip still good. Still little noise.
Excellent tryes – Bought the atr plus for my d22 Navara Very happy with performance good wet weather tryes low road noise aggressive pattern have rotated them twice 40000kms so far with plenty of tread still would definitely recommend these tryes great value for money Show details
80/20 Bitumen / Offroad Use – Update after 5000km use: I've lowered the rating to 3 stars, initially had 4 stars, and lowered the performance and value fir money rating. Why? Quite frankly, for the money, they are not awesome. Ok, but not wow. Light gravel use with 38psi and the traction control in my 2019 Hilux SR5 was working overtime. I don't drive hard. I had my family… Read more
in the car driving on rural roads and the tyres were not holding traction very well.
I've also noticed my fuel economy has jumped by 1 litre per 100km. Not huge but it adds up over 30000kms of driving a year.
Wet driving has been ok, but TBH, it's as expected for the $$$ of these tyres.
Original Review: Initial Impressions:
- look good - good dry road grip - smooth ride - noticeable mild road noise
Just put onto a 2019 Toyota Hilux, 265x60r18 replacing the OEM Michellin Latitude (See my separate review of those). Have just driven home from tyreshop.
The mild road noise is noticeable over the previous "highway" tread pattern of the Michellin Latitude, even so with those having had 53,000km and just on 2 years old... I put it down to the thread pattern and AT style of the Scorpion. To be fair the road noise is no louder than the wind noise driving into a strong headwind, which I had on my journey today.
Great tyre for an AT – Purchased these as an upgrade for the highway tyres my 4wd came with from new. After plenty of research and price checking I settled on these. They are a great compromise for an AT. I probably spend 90/10 on road to off. They are quiet and handle well on road, but still handle well and seem durable so far off road as well. Very happy with my purchase so far. Show details
Find out how Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus compares to other 4WD Tyres
Know better, choose better.
Good at first now howling like the wolf! – Replaced Scorpion AT with these on my Discovery 3 and at first was very impressed but gradually noticed an annoying hum from the front drivers side which I assumed was a mechanical issue. However nothing was found at service and after I had the tires rotated and realigned the noise is now at the rear. 5000 km later the tires are howling, there is no uneven wear and no scalloping. Very annoying. Show details
Better handling, the rest is average – I got the passenger construction (not LT) of the tyre for Toyota FJ Cruiser. I wanted something with the good paved road manners, and reasonably good off-road (i.e. not easily punctured). It appeared that the OEM tyre Dunlop Grandtrek AT22 would fit the bill the best, but I wanted to try something different. The contenders were Bridgestone Dueller… Read more · 1
A/T D697, and Goodyear Wrangler AT SilentTrac. I dismissed the former as not being a too good road tyre (allegedly the low wet grip), and the latter was not available at the time when I needed to replace the tyres. Thus, I hit the Internet, and this Pirelli came up. So I got it.
After about 500 km, I can say that it satisfies mostly. It has a slightly better handling than an average A/T tyre on the paved road. Tirerack rated it as the worst out of the reviewed four tyres (mostly due to perceived lower wet grip and noise in F150), but I have not noticed anything that would bother me. On unsealed road, the tyres exhibited the averge grip for the "blocky" type of the thread design. The tyres survived the short crawling trip over the rocky road, although it is still a mistery to me how well they would compare with the other passenger-construction tyres that do not tout the "reinforced sidewalls". (The likes of Falken, Nitto, General Tires, Yokohama etc.) I was not considering the "budget" tyres from China. The Pirelli tyre was of that "baggy" design which I saw previously in low-rolling resistance tyres BF Goodrich and Michelin (bulging thin sidewalls resulting in a "cloud-like" soft ride, but with some delayed reaction to turning the steering wheel at normal tyre pressure; the response to the impact is not progressive but a breakdown-like). The latter is the most I dislike in a tyre.
In resume, I was a bit disappointed that this was an average tyre in all the departments except one (road handling). I would probably buy it again, as the available competition is likely to be worse. I am yet to see whether it keeps its wet grip and quietness after half of the thread is worn (a bane of Bridgestone but excellent in Michelin). The tyres were made in Brasil.
Totally at a loss to explain! – I wore out my OEM Kumho A25 that came with Nissan Navara NP300 at 12000km. I drive 25km each day back and forth from work on the blacktop, drive 5.7km of those on rally track like conditions- blacktop but exceptionally winding, bumpy and surface like corrugations in places. I bought the Pirelli ATR Plus and done 10000km - already had to buy a… Read more
second hand tyre on rear driver side! The tyres were rotated at 5000km. I don't putt along but don't drive at excessive high speed either. I don't know what is wrong but surely did not expect this much wear on an ATR tyre at $245 a pop!
Very noisy – Extremely noisy tyres. Done 40000km and not impressed. Plenty of tread left but the drone is very annoying. Durable tyres. I run them at 44psi and rotated every 10000km. Dont buy Show details
Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus - Excellent Tyres – I bought the AT Plus back in July 2018. Done 40 K on them in all conditions. Beaten the crap out of them in the Victorian Highlands and they never missed a beat. Wet road handling is excellent compared to the OEM tyres. They were terrible. Can't fault them. Show details
Great Tyre for 80/20 Use on my Pajero – Upgraded from Pirelli Scorpion ATR to ATR Plus for better grip off road. The ATR Plus are as faultless on sealed roads as where the previous ATR model. The more aggressive tread pattern has enhanced off road capability without compromising on road performance. Show details
Disappointingly noisy after 10,000kms – The tyres upon fitting were nearly as quiet as the Michelin Latitude Tour HP that they were replacing. Had been looking for some time for a high quality more aggressive tyre and this seemed to meet the brief. They have performed admirably having towed a 2.5 tonne caravan through Central Australia in many varied conditions. However after the… Read more
initial quiet they have moved to being a constant hum especially on smooth surfaces. Disappointed about that but that is the only apparent downside. Jeep Grand Cherokee with 265 60 R18 tyres.
I love these tyres, they are confidence inspiring! – I love these tyres, they have heaps of dry and wet grip, I had the OEM Dunlop AT22 tyres on my Ranger before and they were horribly dangerous in wet weather, dry weather grip wasn't great either. I had no confidence with the Dunlop tyres at all! The Pirelli Scorpion ATR Plus are a fantastic tyre, they have a very aggressive tread pattern but are… Read more
very quiet and comfortable, they have heaps of wet and dry road grip, they also have great grip on dirt and gravel roads, I am very happy and confident that the Pirelli tyres are gripping the road in all conditions. I would recommend these tyres to everyone.
Best AT TYRE EVER smooth and quiet – Perfect amazing difference -smooth grippy extremely quite ,all reviews, write-ups were not exaggerated just for a sale No not doing full blown off road, just touring and towing with V6 Amerok Show details
Amazing Pirelli's – I walked into the tyre shop needing a new set of tyres for the Amarok, these new Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus just stood out! WOW these new tyres looked bloody unreal. So got a pretty good deal from the tyre joint and had 5 fitted. We then did a 4 week Queensland outback trip, we went "off road" we wanted dirt, rocks, sand, anything but the tarmac!!… Read more
WOW is an understatement, these tyres were so good off road, they were punished! Then back on the bitumen they are quiet, no road noise at all, heaps of grip and confidence in the dry and importantly in the wet! We have done about 30,000k on these tyres now and they still look like the day we had them fitted!
Excellent tyes – Purchased set of the new Pirelli scorpion at plus on my Nissan Navara low road noise very grippy on road and in the wet hopeing to get 60000km plus on these highly recommend these tyres
