at a local bike shop shortly after delivery. After very limited use (around five rides), a far more serious issue emerged. The thread in the right pedal crank arm is damaged, meaning the pedal cannot be secured and repeatedly falls out. This makes the bike unsafe to ride. I contacted the retailer with photos and evidence and requested a repair, replacement, or refund. Despite this being a new children’s bike with multiple defects, Progear Bikes / Global Fitness & Leisure refused to assist, incorrectly claiming the issue was due to user installation. Given the multiple faults in such a short period, this bike is not of acceptable quality, and the refusal to provide a remedy is deeply concerning, particularly given the safety implications for a child. I made several attempts to resolve this matter in good faith. The final response from the retailer (19 January 2026) was a firm refusal to assist. I would strongly caution parents against purchasing this bike or dealing with this retailer based on my experience.

buy new tubes myself and that I would be reimbursed. This is completely unacceptable — the bike was brand new, and I should not have to spend extra money fixing a fault that should never have happened.

To make matters worse, when I contacted them again, I was told this is a common problem. If this is a known issue, why are these bikes still being sold without being properly checked?

It’s now Christmas Day, nothing is open, and my son still has no bike because of this fault. How exactly am I supposed to “reimburse” my child for missing out on his Santa present?

This situation is unfair, disappointing, and has completely ruined what should have been a special Christmas moment.

Had to buy new tyre tubes and got them fixed taking help from someone. Customer support decided to close my case although i had provided all information. Never coming back , even kmart has better customer support. Absolutely disappointed

accompanying a minor has to be on the road and it's awkward to be even on the side and being an inconvenience for drivers when you can't go higher then 30km/h with me pedalling. Can cause road incidents or people raging. Had a few people honk even though I follow the rules and give way. Experience with progear has been decent enough not exceptional.

More updated review August 25: I am not happy with the front break performance and brake pads. Considering upgrading but will see if a warranty claim can do anything. After pressing down it just squeaks and does not stop fully. It's scratched the brake rotors all around. I might just need to upgrade because I would presume they just give me new of the same ones. Will update how the warranty situation goes.

have ridden about 4 times tyres are always flat every single time. - I was hoping it was just because it's a new bike and I needed to get used to it nope it sucks and is terrible to sell this for 300-400 is criminal it's worth about $100 absoloute junk. - Customer service stinks people on the phone have no idea about anything they pass you on to the team which you never hear from. -constantly needing to tighten bolts THAT SHOULDNT NEED TIGHTENING! Progear tricycle are terrible – Bike chain does not connect. Terrible customer service brushing me off to the company that sold their product. All I required was information on how to fix a small problem. They didn’t care. I’d go else where if I had known they just wanted my money and could t be bothered helping me fix something as small as a bike chain link not locking.

I Hope others see this before buying – Not clearly stated at all that if you choose click and collect you have to be able to collect it within business hours on a Monday - Friday. Goodluck if you work a normal 9-5. My other option is to pay an extra $160 on top of the $140 i already paid in transfers to get it delivered to my home. Thanks Progear

Happy customer – Excellent bikes, very well made, solid and sturdy. Easy to put together and fold up. Would be brilliant if they each came with a storage/carry bag, with the added cost so you dont go looking elsewhere. Apart from that extremely happy with our purchase.

Terrible - reported to ACCC – Terrible quality. E-bike charger broke after 15 months with light usage (charged maybe 15 times total), bike was under repair for a sizeable part of 1 year warranty period. During repair, GFL did not work well with repairer and shipped unnecessary component despite repairer's request, wasting lots of time. I had to mediate between repairer and… Read more

GFL. GFL also has history of not paying the repairer for postage, which is really unethical.

GFL doesn't have a basic understanding that Australian Consumer Law guarantees are separate from warranty period and insists on strict application of 12 month warranty. Wanted to charge me $65 for a replacement charger, the exact model is literally on Alibaba for $7.

Dropped it down to $45 after I raised Australian Consumer Law. After a lot of back and forth to which the GFL rep Victor kept repeating the same warranty excuse, I said he lacks basic reading comprehension, to which he got petty and rescinded the offer.

Never dealt with a more immature brand. Case now raised with the ACCC to teach these guys their legal obligations.

Absolute rubbish – Bought a progear Bikes Torrid Bmx Bike 20" In Metallic Chrome for my son birthday. Lasted one month .The chain stopped engaging with rear tyre and was not fixable. Dealer was Woolworth. Shame on any dealer selling rubbish product from third parties.

seller, and my email is keep circulating to 3 different departments. I asked to replace the Frame or replace the whole bike or refund. None of them was accepted by the seller who asked to collect the bike from my place. So, I asked to issue any proof of collection but was not acknowledged, and didn't receive any reply since. I spent $346 with a delivery fee on the bike now I decided to sell the bike in Marketplace for $150. The seller didn't check the parts before delivery. Wasted time and money. :(

super cheap Chinese bike whose most parts did not even have a brand! They trick customers in broad daylight and I have set out to make them pay for this misconduct and all their violations of the Australian Consumer Law, Consumer Rights, and their dodgy treatment of customers.

had a flat tyre..No signs puncture objects…so removed tube and it had a slight nick in it. Ordered new tubes ( 2 just incase )

Day 6…tubes arrived..replaced damaged tube with new tube. Left overnight to settle..Next morning FLAT again.

3rd rd time lucky?…we’ll see

The road ridden on is sealed and it’s my wife’s bike and she’s way below recommended weight.

Overall it’s a nice looking bike and does or did ride fine..everything worked BUT…

to touch the gears on the back of the bike at all. Absolute rubbish. Have taken the bike to a bike shop who I've had to pay $90 to fix cheap crappy materials progear use. Bike shop said no bike of that price should be sold in a box and not set up. Go else where I Wish I did.

With the exception of an initial electrical fault in my unit, I was able to return the product and get a replacement with little fuss. It does need some setup and assembly out of the box, and the general videos on their website guide you through setting up disc brakes etc. Once I was done, it was on to the roads. The PAS system is easy to use, the included display shows you distance, battery charge level and speed. It is a rear wheel hub drive and the battery (samsung 10AHO) is built in to the frame of the bike and is removable for security. It has plenty of torque and assists me up some pretty decent hills. Great front fork suspension and it stops when you need it to. Included pannier racks are great for my bags. I would recommend this bike to anyone starting out to get fit and need a little bit of electrical assist here and there. I researched much more expensive bikes through 99 and others decided that from a pure value proposition, why not give it a try. I have ridden 100km thus far, and no issues to deal with (fingers crossed). Give it a go, like me and you will not be disappointed.
