Switched all our policies to RAC and not impressed with the claim process
Firstly, I understand that with the severe weather in WA, there will be some disruption to insurance services and patience is required. I am understanding of the fact that I was kept on hold for 1hr and 16 minutes regarding a claim and I am even understanding of the fact that the claims process has been confusing with several instances of mis-communication (an assessor has been booked for 13 August, even though a handyman was already been sent by RAC to clear the site on 04 August). What concerns me is that I have been advised by RAC to purchas...
Read moree a new shed with my own funds (following the loss of ours due to storm damage) and send them the invoice for reimbursement. With the experience I have had so far, I am unlikely to use my own money to replace the item and take the risk of not being refunded for it. We hold four insurance policies with RAC costing $4800 per year in premiums and switched from Allianz last year because RAC offered slightly lower fees. When our fence was destroyed in a storm several years ago however, the claims process with Allianz was seamless with the money in our account within 48 hours. I wish I had read the RAC reviews before switching and we will go back to Allianz. You sometimes get what you pay for!- Value for Money

Shower Screen Door Replacement
My frameless shower screen door shattered. Called the RAC and they sent their nominated glass repair company over. The first person measured up for a new door. The second person came in a few days later and said because the door wasn't part of their design, they couldn't replace the door so they measured up for a whole new shower screen. At the time, I told the glazier that the screen door was a specific brand and he said he'd never heard of it. After I received the quote, I rang RAC and queried the options, which was either I pay $2000 for a...
Read more new shower screen or to accept a small payout which was halved when the $300 excess was subtracted. They said that because the rollers were worn they cited wear and tear to justify the payout. I pointed them to my policy renewal statement which says "new for old cover" no matter how old your things are. They pointed me to the PDS which says something else. So I decided to get my own quotes. Within 30 minutes, I found the company who deals with this particular brand of shower screen (the one that the RAC preferred glass repairer never heard of) and purchased a brand new door complete with new rollers and hardware. I got the door delivered and fitted within 2 days. I asked RAC why their preferred glass repairer couldn't do this when it took me 30 minutes to do and I told the glazier the brand name. I said it appeared that the glass company were just trying to drum up business by offering me a new shower screen. I put in a complaint to RAC and requested some feedback. Within an hour I received back notification that my complaint has been dealt with and closed without any specifics being offered. I suspect being dealt with meant being ignored. I've been a member of the RAC for 48 years and felt that I was treated very badly and my compliant ignored. I can't trust the RAC so I will be getting my house and contents insurance elsewhere even if I have to pay more.- Incentivised Review No

Specified contents home insurance
Moved from a different insurer to RAC due to rising cost. Needed to claim for dropped iPhone on RAC insurance and from specified listed items for $1600. We now have to get a report from Apple to say whether it can be fixed or not (Back glass smashed and photos provided to RAC). If they can’t fix it, RAC will provide a refurbished phone! Refurbished phone for almost brand new phone. This also means trip into Perth to Apple. With previous insurer, had similar issue with ipad and money was paid into account same day, no issues. I’m swapping back to other insurer and canceled RAC. You get what you pay for!
ALSO: expect long wait times on phone and to be transferred at least twice.

Service? What service
This company used to be great in my opinion. Fast and reliable with a good claims team. Now, it a case of what they wont cover not what they will. It seems they have a very tight and restricted view of the ten 'events' they will cover. And if you cant talk with them on the phone they send you an e-mail auto response saying it will be ten days before they read your e-mail!
So, after many years thinking I was satisfactorily insured, it turns out I'm not and RACWA has got me worried. So, I am off. Bye bye RAC WA I am really disappointed in you.

Conflicting??
Rac sent an assessor to fix my fence. rac recommended them so we employed them. Three month's later one man and not enough fencing showed. The job was left incomplete and stagard.
I contacted rac for support they said" we paid out for the fence who I you employ was your problem.
I said"you sent them?
Rac said " you employed them we take no further responsibility.

Buyer beware
Their own claims officers can’t interpret the pds how are we supposed to. Their definition of fire damage is also shocking! Does not include damage caused by smoke, heat, ash or other toxic substances caused by fire which is likely to constitute a significant part of your claim. Buyer Beware!

Be carful when you choose RAC!!
I would give 0 start if there was one available. Very bad service and dodge company. I brought my first house and had house insurance with them. Then I realised that my new house had Tennent inside, and will move out in 2 month. So I add the landlord insurance $276 per year on top of my house insurance. When I added it, RAC said when my tenant move out , and I move in, I can cancel the landlord insurance , RAC will refund the rest of the landlord insurance fee to me based on the period time of the house rent out. Two months later when I cancel ...
Read morethe landlord insurance I only get 80 dollars refund, for 2 months of the Tennent in my property. The staff can not explain how the refund fee calculated, unable to provide any policy booklet about the calculation . He simply said it is calculate based on risk, which nonsense or unable to answer my question about how the 80 dollars refunded fee calculated . So I said to the staff, ok, it is just about one hundred dollars. You can do what you want to do. The RAC hold the money and would not refund the right portion of used landlord insurance. It is disappointing, but as the customers , I can not do anything. Just learn a lesson. RAC is all about take your money, dodge , not honest. Be careful when you choose this company’s product. There is no difference between RAC and scam.- Value for Money

Pathetic Treatment
I have been with RAC for 10 years with one claim over 8 years ago.
This claim was not quoted anymore than $4000 and they have refused to pay and have not replied to any emails or calls for over 2 weeks.
I have made a complaint and received no correspondence other than "we will contact you when available'
I will not be staying with RAC and do not recommend them to anyone.
They may have been a quality service 10 years ago but have fallen a long way.

Poor Service
We have lodged a claim, our first ever since building our house 8 years ago. We have just recently had water damage to an internal wall from the shower. After a plumber came out that works for RAC did his tests he was to provide a report. This was 3 weeks ago and no report submitted. RAC says it's not their fault as plumber is busy and can't reach him. Why would you want a trade representing your company that can't do his job properly? We are no sooner to resolution then when we started. Very angry at the lack service and communication and will probably have to pay for repairs ourselves.

Very poor content insurance
We lost quite a lot in a recent robbery. Our specified amount for our content insurance for gold was changed in the renewals of the policy without informing us. We informed the insurance company about our changes in the policy, and initially, they said they would retrieve the phone call, and after that, they came back informing us that they couldn't retrieve the call. Even though we were sure about our specified amount, they were not willing to provide us. We didn't even receive 1/4th of our loss. We were with this company for more than 8 years...
Read more and never claimed anything. The decision from the officers was unjust and not acceptable. The officers working only for their profit, customer needs and worries are their least priority. Surely no safety for our money and properties. Had such a disappointing experience.Would not recommend it at all- Value for Money

Denied claim for ceiling collapse event that led to homelessness
Ceiling collapsed in rental (had been a customer with RAC contents for 12+years without any claims) property - RAC was also the insurer for the home owner, which they didn't admit to up-front - no access to independent assessor. The insurance assessor (via RAC claim from owners didn't turn up until day after the event when ceiling/debris had been removed - assessor spent less than 5minutes on property and wasn't interested in the history of property issues (e.g. previous water damage to ceiling), very dismissive. RAC wouldn't start the claim ev...
Read moreen after two phone calls (including one-on-the day), I couldn't start the claim online (despite everything advertised). Had to attend RAC head office in tears with 50+ photos of the traumatic event (was in the house when the collapse occurred) after lock-down before anyone would take my claim seriously. No offer of consideration for temporary/alternative accommodation (wouldn't agree to hotel, no spare rentals available) during Perth lockdown. Terrible customer service; rental deemed un-inhabitable, ended up homeless with items in storage - no support from RAC for possible solutions; then they denied the contents claim. Offered token financial support but many thousands short for the damage to items, lost time from work, actual cost for replacement items, emergency food purchases and emergency storage of contents. Very disappointed experience for all they talk customer service, supporting locals, etc. Have not renewed my policy - would not recommend contents policy.- Value for Money

I honestly couldn't fault them
After reading so many negative reviews, I will admit I was worried.. I had a lot of storm damage from the cyclone that came through in April.
The Rac was fantastic, replace fences, food and pool cover... money in my account straight away for spoilt food due to loss of power.. and pool cover the next day.. the fence took a few weeks to come through.. all is fixed now.. I'm happy.. thank you RAC

Inflexible, unjust organisation
This big organisation does not care about anyone except their board members. From storm damage claims that aren’t paid out because the wind on the weather report didn’t match the damage, not renewing car insurance because they spelt my name wrong then failed to carry over my NCD and not allowing you to cancel your membership without paying the year in full. There is so much better out there.

Terribly dissatisfied
We were on holidays for 7 days and when we returned freezer had huge puddle of water underneath it and damaged the floor and they won’t cover it because they don’t know why it happened. They sent out a contractor who said it was a power failure.
