We have Ultimate Breakdown Cover with RACT. Broke down way out in the NW of Tassie, at Marrawa. RACT got us a tow truck just over an hour after breakdown. Chris, the sub-contractor towie from Smithton was very helpful and professional. Got us to Wynyard where he transferred us to Paul. They performed their daisy chain maneuver where Paul got us… Read more

We have been with RACT since 2016 and recently experienced a flat tyre. Rang RACT and were told that no one was in the area and they would not be sending anyone out! Do not recommend, cannot be relied on, have cancelled our subscription.

We were in Swansea and our Budget hire car had a flat tyre. The initial point of contact was with the Roadside Assistance number with Budget who were outstanding managed by RACT Roadside Assistance. Rob was very professional and helpful. The work was allocated to Bicheno RACT who were in our opinion, outstanding. We had to leave the keys with the… Read more

accommodation reception where we were staying. Bicheno RACT collected the keys, not only fitted the space saver tyre, but because the flat was on the front, changed the tyre from the back to the front and put the space saver on the back wheel for safety. We would not have known to do this ourselves! The communication and service provided by Barb and Derek was excellent and reminded us that there are organisations and people who still not only do the right thing, but do it well, professionally and with a human touch. Thank you Bicheno RACT and team.

My car breaks down at work, tried getting it towed back home, but because I pay for it out of my money and the accounts under my wife's name, I can't. We we're under the impression, when we signed on, that as long as the account holder was with the car, all would be ok. Apparently it should have been mentioned/explained when we signed up, but… Read more

looking back through the forms and documents, there's nothing mentioned of this. Canceling account and going with another provider. Disappointing RACT

Had to replace my battery after I left a light on for 3 days of not driving. While installing my new battery Dan offered advice for my upcoming Road trip. Thanks also to Emma & Taylor - Customer Service for guiding this 70yr old through the whole process. Stress free for sure thanks.

Very knowledgeable and experienced operator – After several no shows from the local serviceman RACT call centre arranged for Chris from All Wheel Services to attend. He arrived early and was very thorough in his approach to solving our problem and get us back on the road again. Excellent service thank you.

Not good, you may need to sleep in your car waiting – Called up and gave estimated time within the hour. Called after waiting over an hour and advised shouldn’t be far. Then called back again and advised they cannot get hold of the driver and have been trying too. So ended up having to catch a taxi home after waiting over 2 hours.

Poorest telephone service – Rang to update membership details, was held for 20 minutes before I chose to receive a call back without losing my position in the queue. Received an automated return call after another 20 minutes and was held again for 20 minutes before a real person spoke to me. They need more staff to cover their telephone service. No idea why they had to return my call when they had no one to speak to me. Show details

unhelpful staff . poor service – I have RACT roadside assist membership. I parked my car at a sports club for my son to drive back after the games. He noticed that a tyre was flat and called me to ask what to do. I confidently asked him to contact my roadside assist but a rude lady on the phone told my son she won't help because it wasn't me calling and that the "'breakdown… Read more

happened when he was at the wheel'". she kept insisting that the breakdown happened when my son was driving which was not true as the car had a flat in the carpark itself and he just happened to notice it as soon as he left the carpark..I reached the spot quickly and called RACT myself but the same rude lady answered and kept insisting that she won't help . It's ridiculous she was so unwilling to understand the difficult situation we were in at that time of the night and there was absolutely no reason to decline for this reason. it was only to change a flat tyre which I could have myself but just didn't happen to have the equipment..very disappointed with this kind of stone hearted staff ..

RACT guy saves the car and the marriage – I turned too sharply at the bottom of our very steep drive and wedged the car on a concrete ledge. My husband thought we’d have to get it towed from the top of the drive and that the car would probably be wrecked. The AMAZING (and calm) RACT guy turned up in 15 minutes, asked if we had a few bricks, jacked it up and in 10 minutes the car was off… Read more

the ledge and the marriage saved. I didn’t get his name but the red-headed RACT guy who came to West Moonah is my hero and I am forever grateful. Thank you RACV!

The role model for all roadside assistance proiders – We've been with RACT for over 20 years and during that time must have asked for their help on about about half a dozen occasions. Whilst they can't always arrive immediately, they do give honest arrival times, even if this might be a couple of hours at peak times and remote locations. Their mechanics are affable, friendly, very knowledgeable and… Read more

have excellent communication skills. RACT have also on occasion gone beyond the written limits of their cover to help us. Obviously, you can't expect this, but we have always found RACT to be top notch in terms of customer service, and quick to answer the phone when called for help. Highly recommended and no, I don't work for them! This review was prompted by a recent call I made to RACT to deal with an undriveable SUV with a seized engine. They towed our vehicle twice, at no extra cost, first to our home and then to the mechanic once we'd got the vehicle booked in. I really can't recommend RACT too highly.

Battery replacenent – Was away from Tas for 4 weeks. Got my builder to get quote for new battery in my absence. Battery was 7 years old. Quote from Battery World for recommended replacement was $180. Knowing I would get discount from RACT, I decided to replace battery when I returned from WA. RACT gave no indication of cost. I assumed about $150 with member… Read more

discount. Charged $262 for replacement. I was bemused to say the least by cost but found technician faultless. Ph call centre again to state my concern with $100 difference. After much toing and froing I received call 6 hours after arranged time. The so-called mechanic stuck to a script and failed to answer any of my questions. He talked down to me stating things like superior, longer life, etc. I got extremely angry. He had no capacity to actually answer my questions. I wanted to know why the RACV battery, with no manufacturer details was superior to the recommended battery. No reasonable or acceptable response was forthcoming. I terminated the call feeling angry and totally unsupported by RACT. I would have thought responding to member issues and concerns in a satisfactory manner would be a fundamental practice, according to best practice principles. To me, disadvantaging members for profit and providing misleading information is indicative of a corrupt organisation. I was blatantly lied to. This matter must be and will be referred to ACCC, Office of Consumer Affairs and Choice for assessment and investigation next week. I have demanded copies of recordings to substantiate my case. They will be subpoenared if necessary. I haveni issue with call centre personell who were understanding and cooperative. I get refund next Monday after replacing RACV battery for the manufacturer recommended battery. Ripping off loyal members for financial advantage is criminal.

SHAME ON YOU RACT – My wife passed away in November 2021 and it was a further 7 months before I was able to finalise her affairs. My wife's RACT membership continued to be paid until then at which time I sought a refund. RACT refused to repay the fee even though no service and therefore no costs were incurred. SHAME ON YOU RACT

Could not be happier – RACT roadside has saved me more times than I can count. They never take too long to get out to me and I’ve always had a good experience with the mechanics they send out. Special shout-out to Tim who works the hobart area. I’ve had him sent out to me twice and each time he went above and beyond with his service. Top bloke.

Great Service! – In view of long distances between service centres I decided to join the Ultimate option and glad I did. My car need dealer expertise and was transported from Sheffield to Launceston. Had I not been a member it would have cost $350. Thanks RACT

Fantastic Tasmanian Service! – Since coming to Tassie in 2016, I experienced a couple of occasions of coming out to a flat battery on my old car. Unfortunately at this time I wasn't in any roadside assistance services... The stress of trying to get my car going encouraged me to sign up. After all, about $15 a month for peace of mind is better than trying to find someone with… Read more

jumper leads or someone who can jumpstart your car. Even worse, most mechanics will help for a fee of around $70 just to jumpstart.

After signing up with RACT, I encountered a couple more occasions of issues with my vehicle. After calling up the RACT for help, I wsas met with extremely friendly customer service, a willingness to help and go that extra mile for you and best of all, a knowingness of vehicles. All in all, it was the best move I made when i came to Tassie, as there are so many remote locations around this little island. I recommend RACT to anyone who wants peace of mind for their car.
