Two out of five of my R10 smoke alarms were giving a low battery alarm after 5 years from installing them. Contacted warranty customer support on Friday and replacement items arrived the following week . Excellent customer service from an Australian company. Show reply

UPDATE: Red has sent a technician to replace the faulty alarm. He is one of the most helpful technicians I have met. He not only replaced the alarm, but also installed a wall controller for free, and offered helpful advices. Since then, no more false alarm. This confirms that the previous one was indeed faulty, not because of environmental… Read more ·  2

problem.

-------------------------

I moved to a new house with 7 Red smoke alarms. One of them kept triggering false alarms every 10 minutes, day and night, and it became extremely stressful for my family. I had to turn it off.

I hired a technician from the reputable Queensland Smoke Alarm service to inspect and clean the unit. Their report clearly concluded that the issue was not environmental, but due to a faulty unit, and that it should be covered under warranty. (Screenshot attached.)

Despite this, Red Smoke Alarms refused to honor the warranty, claiming that false alarms are not covered. But from both a consumer’s perspective, and from the technician’s professional assessment, an alarm that triggers every 10 minutes without cause is clearly faulty.

After some back-and-forth, they reluctantly agreed to send a technician, as a “courtesy.” However, in every communication, they kept emphasizing that this was not under warranty, which made me feel as though I was begging for a favor, rather than receiving basic customer service.

The technician was supposed to come in the morning after 9am. I waited at home the entire morning after 9am, but no one showed up. No call, no text. When I followed up, Red told me the technician had come, knocked, and left without making any contact at all.

When I requested a reschedule, the company refused.

As a customer, I find this level of service deeply disappointing. A malfunctioning smoke alarm is not a trivial issue, and the lack of accountability shown by Red was both dismissive and evasive.

I’m writing this review in the hope that other customers will be aware of the risks before purchasing.

I wrote a review regarding my RED smoke alarm system a couple of days ago, I’m now updating the review 13/11/25 In my correspondence with the company KPS (RED Smoke alarms) I requested to Kira (customer service) that I speak with someone higher up. The following day I got a call. I won’t go into the details of the conversation but I will say, I… Read more ·  1

was listened to and given a solution, that I was happy with. Today an electrician was sent by KPS to install a different system. The company has been highly responsive and quick to act, to my issue. Apart from the initial customer service response, I found dealing with the company a good experience. I have a higher confidence my new alarm system will be a better experience.

11/11/25 We had RED smoke alarms installed in 2022 and have had nothing but trouble! Alarms going off at all times of the day but mostly early morning. Was advised by Kira today, that the alarms will only work at certain humidity levels. I live in sub tropical Brisbane, 6 months of the year is humid!!! I deemed the product, not fit for purpose.

After using the wireless interconnect alarms for over 6yrs faultlessly, one developed an issue. I consulted with the service team and followed the instructions, it was deemed a warranty replacement would be issued. The unit was send out promptly via AusPost and I am very happy on choosing and local company that looks after their customer base and will continue to use them in the future. Show reply

I had not long moved into my new apartment and found that the smoke alarm in the bedroom was 'chirping'. I engaged with the chat service and was guided to a page that had a form to fill in to ask for a replacement. I cannot recommend these smoke alarms based on my experience. A qualified electrician installed five R10RF units in our home in June 2023. The first alarm failed in less than 12 months for no apparent reason. I maintained the units as recommended by regularly vacuuming them to remove dust and keeping them clean. The alarm would repeatedly sound… Read more

and had to be disconnected and replaced because it would trigger again as soon as the 10-minute hush period ended.

Now, only three years after installation, a second unit has developed the same type of fault and is randomly false alarming. In my opinion, having two out of five alarms fail within the first three years is unacceptable for a product marketed with a 10-year lifespan. I would never expect to be replacing multiple units so early in their expected service life.

False alarms aren't just an inconvenience; they undermine confidence in the product and can lead people to disconnect their alarms entirely. The honest truth is I no longer trust this product to perform when it matters most. I have decided to replace all five alarms with a different brand that has stronger reviews and, I hope, better reliability. When it comes to the safety of my family, reliability is non-negotiable and I am fortunate to be in a position where I can afford to cut my losses and install new alarms. My concern is for thoes who can't.

Do not use KPS ! Worse company with terrible ethics. We have had nearly every alarm replaced with them through constant beeping, only have have the last claim denied because of specks (and I DO mean specks) of overspray from a roller brush. How on earth would these few “specks” affect the operation of the alarm. They chant the “it clearly says… Read more

not to paint them” excuse to deny the claim. Use your brains. Species of overspray is not painting the alarm. Save your money people. Do NOT go anywhere near this company. They are happy to sell defective products, but to everything possible to deny claims.

Three months after having seven Red smoke alarms installed, they started to randomly go off, day & night. When I contacted the company I was told they must be dirty or insects were causing them to go off & it wasn’t a warranty issue. So much for their “10 year warranty”! Terrible product & customer service & useless warranty, stay away from them!

I installed 6 Red R10RF smoke alarms. After 4 years the 10 year battery in one of them was failing. After 5 years the battery in a second alarm started failing (both in winter of course). alarm. In both cases they immediately sent replacement alarms which I received within 1 or 2 days. Very happy with the service. I gave the alarms 4/5 because the batteries on 2 of the 6 alarms were lasting no where near the expected 10 year battery life. But I will give them another 1/2 star for their service.

However, there wasn't a video on the situation where you take the alarm down off the ceiling with no backing plate & they don't show you how to turn the alarms on at the back. I worked it out and Kira also walked me through it, but just thought I'd mention it so someone can create a video on it. Thanks again Kira :)

These were installed by the vendor when they sold the house to us. All 3 10 year battery detectors failed in less than 2 years. Constant low battery beeps and random alarms. these and besides I don’t have the receipt, although the day code indicates they are fairly new. Quality is obviously low so expect the faults will just repeat. Red Smoke Alarms Review: Major Safety FAIL From False Alarms at 3 AM to Zero Detection—Absolutely Unacceptable Installed brand-new, these alarms screamed tormentingly at 3 AM—some environmental excuse from the company, naturally. I didn’t bother contacting them. One year later, after no incidents for a while, I performed my own smoke test—and… Read more

discovered: NONE of them triggered. ALL OF THEM. This product is unfit for purpose. So much for photoelectric detection.

Here’s the breakdown: - Early nights ruined: Brand new system, alarms randomly blaring through the night—some tech spiel about “environmental factors” was blamed. Classic deflection, no actual fix . - Warranty? What warranty? Warranty claims are rejected with minimal effort—anything that doesn’t suit them is declared non‑warranty, “environmental,” or your fault . - Customer service: non‑existent: Complaints get polite templates. Operators double as untrained engineers. No meaningful follow‑through . - Design flaw: bugs and dust: Reviews cite spider invasion and dust causing constant beeping. Yet today—with a real smoke test—nothing triggered. That’s a FAIL on both ends

Final verdict:

Bought a safety device. Got a noise machine that doesn’t detect smoke. And a company that wouldn’t honour its 10‑year warranty if it bit them.

If you value your sleep or your life: choose literally anything else.

The Red Smoke Alarms have a good review record, guaranteed for 10 years, easy single button test procedure for all alarms and look OK. The major points winner, is with a failure of an alarm battery giving intermittent 'beeps', the warranty was honoured. An email sent with the request for help, was answered immediately and a replacement alarm was sent within 24 hours by delightful staff. If only all companies could operate this way! Show reply
