I received a quote the same day and had a scheduled appointment for the replacement the following day. The installers arrived at the scheduled time and completed the work within 90 minutes. anything about water quality when I purchased the unit. I am looking (with trepidation) at replacing my current electric storage tank with a Heat Pump. Clearly JR and Gas are great people wherever they are, but I am more interested in seeing reviews about Rheems Quality of Service. I'm guessing that when brand new, most heat pumps work well, but it's the long term relationship in regards to warranty that my decisions to purchased are based on. Where I live, it appears that everyone will sell you something, but when it comes to providing the all important service, that's like the elephant in th room. We seems that we often get too excited with the sale and initial installation and performance (Dating and Honeymoon), rather than looking at the long term relationship. (Marriage) I use this site because the reviews are pretty honest though somethimes people blame the product when there are other things causing the issue, but all in all it's quite helpful. Anyway, over to you good people.

Great Unit and timer pairs well with Solar PV system – Our 12 year old Rheem Gas Storage 130L system (LPG 45kg bottle fed) was getting tired and the increasing price of gas was making it pointless replacing it with a similar unit. a heat pump hot water unit was (despite the initial investment) definitely the way to go. Be aware you need to have a 20A circuit with isolator switch installed or available next to the unit which also adds to the cost if you are switching over from Gas. The lads from JR Gas and Water replaced the old Rheem Gas Storage unit with the Rheem Ambiheat 270 the other day at our place and it was a pain free process. They even set up the timer and gave us a ring at the end of the day to go over any questions and maintenance tips as no one was home at the time of install. There is plenty of hot water for showers at night (Family of 4) and any washing up even thought the unit only runs during the daytime. The panel on the unit is great and easy to use and the Vacation mode is a cool feature. All round great unit.

I’ve been mostly interested in how well the unit retains heat given from 4pm onwards the unit is set not to heat up. This is important to us. I generally find from my early testing that with the tank temperature at top and bottom reaching 60degrees after three showers it’s still holding a high 50s in the top tank sensor and a couple of degrees lower in the bottom. So far I’ve been impressed at how well it retains heat over night without any further heating I’ve found it drops to mid 50s at most - granted it is summer so warm over night. Will be interesting over winter to see how well its insulation holds. I’ll keep monitoring for the next few weeks and again in winter.

Minor feedback:

- the buttons on the control panel are slightly temperamental. Mainly the down arrow. But it’s not something you’d be accessing a lot so it’s minor. - when the unit is set to be off via its built in timer it stops displaying temperature of the tank. This is a minor inconvenience as you can bring it back by pressing the on button and holding. But for someone on solar I’m mostly interesting in how it’s holding temperature.

Worth every dollar – After extensive research this was by far the best option for replacing my electric hot water heater. hours. The heatpump itself is quiet, quieter than my aircon unit, and has a fast hot water recovery time for when you have a house full of guests and are worried about running out of water. If you have an electric hot water system and are looking to upgrade, definitely consider this heat pump, and ask your supplier/installer about local government rebates as I saved $1900.

"NOT ALL HEAT PUMPS ARE CREATED EQUAL" Don't be fooled into buying cheaper imported products from fly by night hot water companies, who cold call you or advertise ridiculously cheap products. Remember the old sayings "you get what you pay for" or "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys" or "If its sounds to good to be true then it probably is" Well nothing has changed and nothing is ringing truer than right now. If your researching heat pumps and reading my review, your probably aware of the Government incentives that are being currently offered , you will get up to $2000. This $2000 rebate has come from Tax payers money, it didn't just grow on a tree, and should be spent wisely. As I write this review, we are about head into a new Budget period where the government has to make some serious decision due to the amount of debt the country currently faces. I understand that people may think that this $2000 is just free cash, but I ask you to seriously consider who and where you Purchase from when using this rebate money, do we want it staying In Australia with Australian companies, or do you want to send it off to foreign companies who make inferior products and do not offer the same level of service and manufacturing that Australian companies do? The Rheem Ambi heat 270 is a great product made by Australians For Australians, and the hard earnt incentives will help feed the Australian economy,
