Rinnai HOTFLO 10 Instantaneous

Rinnai Hotflo unreliable hot water system, constant failing – This is a terrible hot water unit, had problems with it from the outset, had warranty issues and then just after the 2 year warranty period ended, the unit needed repairs again, just after, two thermostats in two years went on it, constant repairs to this unit, took this to Rinnai, they were unhelpful and declined the warranty as it was just… Read more
out of warranty, and did not replace, despite the known problems with this particular model and unreliable, the customer service was terrible, very bad experience with this company
Piece of Junk! – Installed by licenced plumber day 1 and didn't work from brand new. Have had multiple call outs to repair over 4 years of use and has let me down on Xmas day 2021 with a house full of guests. Absolute rubbish! Save yourself the time and money and but something else!
Wish I had seen these reviews before I bought this lemon – We built our new house 5 years ago, the unit worked ok for the first winter (we shifted in late July, live in North Queensland and do not need hot showers in summer). Every winter since we do not get even warm water, have contacted Rinnai before and they told us to contact the company we bought unit from, have had them to look at item and they… Read more
cannot get it to work any better, there are only two of us in the house so this unit should be able to keep up with our usage. We have not been able to have a WARM shower for 4 years I am fed up with it but cannot afford to buy a new unit. Do Not Buy These Heaters. Bob

HOTFLO 10 - Rubbish!! – Had nothing but trouble with this water heater, since installed by a Licensed Plumber. Had numerous callouts, and now the water is lukewarm at best. Tried everything. It's definitely not the water or gas pressure as both are excellent. New battery and still the same old problem. Call a technician and pay $300 just for a call out. Do not buy this product, it is absolute rubbish. Show details
Hi Dale,

Do not buy this product – Bought this product to replace an old gas hot water system. My plumber took it out of the box and went to fit the regulator and the pipe sheared clean off. Both of us were stunned at how brittle the pipe was, it seemed porous. We have been given a complete run around by Rinnai customer service and their hopeless Sydney Service provider D&N… Read more
plumbing. We were told our case was a priority case to be actioned but I never received any call and have spent the entire day chasing them to get someone to come out to fix the faulty product. We received no call from D&N plumbing and they have just ignored our calls.
We've had to continually call Rinnai to try to get this fixed but have been told to wait another 3 days as they will not pay the call out fee for D&N plumbing. I cannot stress enough how much we regret ever having the misfortune of dealing with them and this faulty, dangerous product.
Save yourself the hassle and stay well clear. I wish I had seen their reviews prior to buying this product. Hopefully this review and the other ones will save someone the hassle of what we are going through.

What a dud – We had the Hotflo 10installed in March 2015 and by November 2016 it was subject to a warranty claim, no hot water at all. Subsequent to that claim the system worked until early 2018 at which point it started to play up, no warm at all or lukewarm. We spent a fortune thinking it was batteries. Our water flow is from a large rainwater tank delivered… Read more
by an excellent pump so pressure is not the issue. At time the system just went on strike. It stopped all together last month for a few days, so I decided against repairs, and have replaced it with a Bosch system, same flow rate and with the added bonus of not requiring any power for ignition, it’s a hydro system. I still have the old Rinnai unit if you guys want to have a look.
FrustrationFlow – This unit is supposed to be for off grid installation. Installed less than 3 months ago. We have our gravity feed tank 20 metres above the hot water service - I can shoot a 50mm stream of water more than 5 metres in the air from the pressure we have - however the hotflow barely puts out 30% of the pressure of the cold water line - which is… Read more
identical. It is not designed for anything other than town pressure - a complete fail for its design.
Also - yes - you don't get hot water, you get warm water at best. We have a $200 caravan hws off ebay working perfectly in the other house - but this rinnai is expensive rubbish.
Should be called Frustration Flow unlimited!
August 31st 2016 Update: FrustrationFlow - Update
Update - I had the brilliant idea of reverse flushing the unit. Result - unbelievably soap came out - the flow went from about 4 litres a minute to 8 when hooked up again. The flow went down again - reverse flushed again - soap again. Why soap? I'll guess that the Chinese that put this together wanted to stop it leaking. Now the flow is at 8 litres a minute. The warm water problem - 2nd problem is because it ignites - then turns the flame off. Rang Rinnai and they want to charge me if they decide it is an installation fault (yeah I can trust them with that!). I protested that a licensed plumber installed it and that the problem is obviously that something inside it turns the flame off. I feel trapped with a unit that performs when it feels like it. It stopped working for 2 weeks then yesterday I accidentally turned the mixer tap on hot and it worked, it worked 2 more times enough for 2 showers. Today? It stopped working (flame goes out, ignites, then goes out repeatedly) Nothing changed it just decided to work then stop working. I used to fix computers - an intermittent problem is caused by a hardware (Electronic mechanics) error. The unit is faulty, but Rinnai just want you to agree to Pay, pay, pay.
DONT BUY !! – From the day it was installed the water was just warm..Ive had 4 gas plumbers out & the ATCO gas supply guy out(who advised to remove the green tempering gauge which cools the water to the Govt advised temp)..He even changed the regulator at the gas meter, increased the gas press..so with all this done, its still just warm, & the warranties just… Read more
out..the bathrooms are nearby, but nothing brings the temp up...the ATCO guy said hes seen 4 other complaints with this new model....avoid at ALL costs...go to solar with elec booster & solar PV panels
Rinnai Hotflo – This hot water service has given us nothing but trouble since it was installed 18 months ago. Hot water in this house is something of a memory only. It is useless & the amount of water we've wasted, waiting for hot water to come through, is ridiculous. Do not buy

This is Rubbish with a capital R – I will start by saying that we have 4 Rinnai constant flow gas HWS, 3 of which are excellent; the HOTFLO 10 however is Crap! Rubbish! It has NEVER worked! We got it only because we are in an area with constant power outages and it is battery ignited, that was the idea anyway. It should be called the Luke Warm Flo 1 or the Cold Flo 0.5 because it… Read more
simply doesn't work! We have had the Plumber back 4 times and Rinnai out twice. It is serving only one outlet, the kitchen sink / Dishwasher and I cannot recall the last time I got even warm water from it after 10, 15 or 20 minutes. It will be replaced as soon as I have installed a Standby Generator to eliminate the need for battery ignition. And it will be painted Yellow and put on a pole out on the main road with a LEMON sign.
DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE PIECES OF APPALLING RUBBISH - THEY DO NOT WORK AND RINNAI DON'T WANT TO KNOW - YOU WILL REGRET IT!
