Shout out to Sean and the guys at Rio in Preston I had these guys put together a theatre system for me. Mk sound system and projector and screen and it's came up brilliantly! I'll 100% be back again! Their store was the most impressive I've seen. For anyone wanting to do a surround system, these are the people to deal with. Super professional! Show details

was not prepared to pay more and asked for my deposit to be refunded to my credit card; I was told they did not do refunds! I insisted and mentioned Consumer Affairs. The next call from Rio was to tell me they had been able to secure a swivel model for the original price, I said ok go ahead! This was my first experience with Rio Sound & Vision Preston. The installation was done on 29/1/2025. Some months later I had another technician to fix a foxtel issue. It was then that the terrible job done by Rio was shown to me. 1) A hole in the plaster for cords so close to where the bracket was fixed it was left without a cover plate. 2) At the skirting board a face plate for other purpose was drilled into to pull the HDMI cord through, but it got stuck and was left half in half out. 3) At the time of the installation I was told that my HDMI cord was not long enough, so I had to pay $30 for another one. I was not told that mine was stuck in the wall!!!!!! 4) the aerial lead falls off the TV every time the television is rotated on the bracket, probably due to the position of the hole in the wall being located in the wrong place. 5) The bracket does not return to the wall position easily perhaps because the cords are in the way. I wrote to Rio, the response was complete denial e.g. it must have been another technician, not us, we are professionals. There was an offer to install a wall plate over the hole in the plaster but it would cost me another $60. I declined. I am writing this review instead. I also contacted Consumer Affairs Victoria who confirmed Rio had breached several consumer law clauses. I did not take it further as I am in my 70's and really do not want the angst of dealing with them again.

Fantastic customer service – Purchased a new AV Receiver and had Edwin there technician install unit at home, extremely friendly and did a great job explaining how to use it. Fantastic service – Great team, easy to deal with, knew exactly what I wanted. Shopping from interstate over the phone is usually risky but they made this easy. There were delays with the amplifier but it finally arrived after a few months of delay. Thank you Rob and the staff at RIO. The owner was rude and unapologetic falling back on the line that "unless you have it in writing I won't help" and eventually hung up on me.

They are the least professional and dishonest retail staff I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Do yourself a favour and shop elsewhere

Consumer warning - avoid – I purchased a $4000 Q Acoustics demo speaker in store from Rio Sound and Vision in Thornbury Melbourne from salesperson [name removed]. She showed me that the speaker had 1 small mark on the front, which I accepted. I was told it had been on the floor less than 2 months and was otherwise in 100% perfect condition. days later had 4 large chips to the high gloss finish, numerous large scratches and scuff marks over the surface, and the drivers were impregnated in what looked like years worth of dust. I immediately rang them and requested a refund as this was not the speaker I purchased in the shop - the owner [name removed] did not return my call. My calls continued to be ignored for some time until ‘[name removed] from Rio’ rang me, refusing to properly identify himself or his role. He immediately began by accusing me of creating the damage to the speakers they delivered, saying Q Acoustic speakers are very easily damaged and this damage is normal for this speaker model. He then conceded the damage on the speakers that were delivered to me were existing pre-purchase but were not significant and I could ‘paint over them and buff them out’! His tone was loud and aggressive, saying I would never receive a refund and he invited me to ‘take it further’, before abruptly hanging up the phone. Q Acoustics contacted me to say they have chosen to no longer supply Rio Sound and Vision or their distributor company Indi Imports with their products. I advise you to avoid Rio Sound and Vision for your hifi purchases. They were dishonest with me, delivered a speaker I didn’t buy and their aggressive phone call was well below any professional consumer communications standard. It is also worth noting, that Rio only provided me with a hand written paper invoice and said they were unable to provide a digital copy. Melbourne has a lot of fantastic and reputable hifi retailers, most of which I have dealt with, Rio Sound and Vision is not one of them. PLEASE AVOID.
