Rollaway Shutters

Rollaway Shutters are now ACA Windows or ACA Home Improvements – My husband and I have started the process of taking ACA to VCAT. I can't believe all this negativity I am reading on this business, wish we had seen this prior. I will give you all a more detailed outline of what they are putting us through shortly. In the meantime, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, you will regret it. WE WOULD NOT WANT ANYONE TO GO THROUGH WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH
Rollaway Shutters also known as ACA Home Improvements – Customer service is without doubt the worst I have ever experienced. Office staff are argumentative & aggressive. Their motto seems to be that the customer is always wrong! Go anywhere but ACA Home Improvements - Beyond dreadful - my guess is they spend most of their time trying to defend themselves in VCAT & I also guess they more often that not… Read more

WARNING DO NOT USE – Terrible service. Product expensive but is cheap rubbish straight out of China! Do not use! Botched installation. Made many attempts to have problems rectified. Completely ignored!

Terrible - our story with Rollaway goes back 2 years now! – I'm not the type to write reviews, but after reading all these reviews I can't believe how patient we have been with Rollaway. We signed up with them in Feb 2015 (our order is between $15k to $20k). Our first part of the order (plantation shutters) arrived in a reasonable time and was installed by Norm - no issues. Our next part of the order… Read more
is 6 eZip blinds. We have been waiting since then for the correct installation of these blinds. We unfortunately paid the whole amount in December 2015 which is why we are being treated like crap ever since. The installers would not turn up to the job until I paid the full amount. The first installers came in Dec 15 and completely stuffed up the installation. We have been waiting since for them to be re-installed. The blinds are sitting in our alfresco. They company makes appointments and then don't turn up. This has happened several times, yet we have taken time off from our jobs to be there. Several calls to Consumer Affairs has not helped. I think we will have to go down the VCAT track. We have just had enough. I feel sorry for the ladies in the office, they try to help, it's Jim and the installers who have no idea how to treat customers.
Brilliant service, great product – Had my shutters installed a month ago in 2 bathrooms and 2 loos - they have made a world of difference to the look of the rooms - I didn't know whether I should do them or not as we have never had anything on our bathroom windows. Wise decision on my part. Everyone who sees them just loves them. I was very impressed with their service from the… Read more
initial consultation with Jill who was spot on with all her suggestions and colours, and then the follow up measurement check by Norm. The installation by Norm and his counterpart was so efficient and handled so sleekly that I have now ordered some more shutters for my living room. The put protection on the floors, wiped down everything, cleaned any small mess and generally left the place in excellent order.
The wait was 8 weeks but I was told that up front so had no issue with the timing and so worth the wait.
August 19th 2016 Update: Perfect score - once again
After previously having some shutters installed in our home, I ordered some more for our front lounge room. Once again the service provided by
Jill, the representative who came to quote/suggest/colour consult on shutters, Norm who is just the best "tradesman" I have ever encountered, and his assistant Guy who is getting exceptional training from Norm and I'm sure will be equally super. This company really does provide quality products i.e. shutters for me, it has great service and delivers on its promise. What more can I say.
If more Australian companies were half as good as Rollaway Shutters, business would be booming.
Delivered on time and high quality – I ordered 4 plantation shutters for our 1910 Victorian Cottage in Coburg. I have bought PVC plantation shutters in past properties - but changed our mind to the white basswood shutters purely from a durability perspective. I found our consultant Jill to be extremely knowledgeable on the product - I thought the sash windows would be tricky to fit,… Read more · 1
but Jill was forthcoming with great options in the initial consult. Jill was the reason why I went with Rollaway (we did have a couple of other quotations). Norm, who did the check measure, was fast and efficient. Turn around time was around 10 weeks which is what we were quoted - we didn't have to chase Rollaway up as per some other reviews. We only had one drama - only 3 windows were measured and quoted initially - there was a slight misunderstanding. The issue was picked up at check measure and after some communication with Rollaway, a solution was determined. All in all, an extremely satisfied customer.

Unprofessional at best – My experience spans over 12 months because that's how long it took from when I went ahead with the order to when the product was installed and finalized. Going to VCAT!!!!!!! – Omg where to start!!!!! I had plantation shutters installed in 2014, the process was fine, however after 6-8mths I noticed they started cracking! 6mths ago I started the process again! However this time I called & ask for a quote to get more because I knew if I didn't they wouldn't come out! I got the quote & while the rep was here I showed the issues with the ones I had put in. He took pictures & said he would do a report & get something done about it. After a number of phone calls (I can't recall- there were that many, from me only) they sent the same guy out again to take more photos, which lead know where!
I decided to go to Consumer Affairs! They came back & said they would replace them only if I paid for the shutters at cost price! I said I shouldn't have to pay for anything as its under warranty! They are defective & I would like them replaced!!!!!!
This was beyond a joke with the amount of time I had gone through to get to this point!
I wasn't going to let the issue go as they were thousands of dollars! I have just lodged everything to go to VCAT & I will get a result! I have a product that is faulty & they need to replace it!
Absolute nightmare- I don't know how they are still in business!!!

Or the part that I have a letter from you guys threating to send people to my property with out a court order to collect the blinds?
Or when I came to the show room in Seaford and was told a Sales Rep would come out to my premises and discuss the removal of the faulty blind with a new blind or a full refund and the removal of current the one's you guys installed, but Then a installer was going going to be send out on 26/08/2016 to again try to fix the faulty blind, but which was agreed a Sales Rep would come out instead?
Or the fact the this is on going and should or will keep people updated on what Rollaway Shutters/ACA does about this matter.

Shocking service - took almost 1 year to complete job, then threatened me with legal action – I wish I had read reviews before signing the contract. There are so many reviews with the same story as mine. Signed the contract in July 2015, they didn't complete my job until May 2016. October 14 2016 Update:
I ordered 3 stacker doors in Feb 2016, have been lied to all along the way . I have all dates and times and content . They refuse to respond to emails . People keep leaving, I am still unable to use the doors I had installed after 10 months, cant use screen doors, the design was totally different to one I ordered. This company is also Rollaway
Shutters. Good luck with dealing with these people I'm told managers name [name removed], but they will not let me speak to them. Just [name removed] who has no idea what is going on, [name removed]who I thought was nice but also does not keep her promise. So far I have contacted them 15 times.
Very happy – Very happy, From initial consultation with Joe through to installation with Norm, very professional. Great product and price. Took a long time for shutters to arrive but was told it would take 8-12 weeks so was prepared for this, (although I rang to check progress with office twice but didn't get Rung back) Blinds look fabulous when arrived, installers great.
Disgusting service – We paid a deposit for our security screens in January and now we are in June still no security doors! Call after call they just tell us the same thing 'we will get back to after speaking to management' WHERE IS YOUR MANAGEMENT???
Terrible Customer Service – What a joke of a company. Even if they paid me and installed the screens for free I still would refuse. the incorrect motor – I was sold “dual control” I.e. Wall mounted switch with RF control – they installed RF control only. I needed the wall mounted switch,
• 2 x Window security Grills were not fitted.
• The laundry security door did not close with the top strike plate fitted – the door is too wide at the top.
• The shutters do not sit wide enough in their tracks and can easy be pushed in and popped out of the tracks.
• Spent 19 days with 8 of the 10 shutters in the down position – this is a safety issue (fire). No electrical connection
• When the electricians actually arrived they Broke 7 tiles on the roof - left cigarette butts in the garden and the left over rubbish from cables and junction boxes in my roof space.
If you need Roller shutters that are secure, these are not. Promises to fix and get installers to call your are stall tactics. they will not work around your schedule at all. The company has not direct control over their sub-contracting installers, as such your experience will be more like staying at faulty towers.

Do Not Buy From Rollaway – I don't normally write review but I feel compelled to advise the public to avoid what I have experienced. The installation contractor made multiple visits and could not fix it.
I had to research on how to install on my hebel wall and discovered that it was impossible to install successfully without the research that I made.
My awnings are still not install and my wall is damage.
I have zero confidence that they can do the job successfully and requested for money back. If the begin installation, they will cause further damage to my new house and I don't want to risk it further. I am taking them to VCAT.
The big problem with this company is that do not know how to help you when you hit a problem - you will be on your own.
I wish I checked the review before I purchase from them - they are horrible! They should never be in business.
Don't buy from Rollaway.
I should have paid for more with a better company than pay less to Rollaway to experience a nightmare.
Plantation shutters last 2 years only without problems – Plantation shutters purchased from ROLLAWAY SHUTTERS continue to fall apart. They provide a 5 year warranty but charge $180 as a call out fee before they repair faults. This means I am required to pay $180 even though the product has a 5 year warranty. If you want your plantation shutters to last for more than 2 years problem free, choose wisely… Read more
and check the small print in your contract papers. My experience with rollaway shutters was totally unsatisfactory, because if you find a cheaper repair service, you risk voiding their warranty, so basically you are tied in to paying them a service fee of $180 every time one of the shutter panels falls out. So far 3 shutter panels have fallen off, and I still have 3 years left on their warranty----what a joke!! Rollaway Shutters are based in Australia, but the plantation shutters are made in Asia, do not make my mistake and assume the plantation shutters are Australian made.
May 9th, 2017 Update: Costly mistake
Plantation shutters from rollaway continue to have blades fall off. We have had them for 3 years now and a total of 6 blades have dropped off. The shutters are made in Asia and have plastic pins holding the blades in place, and it is these plastic pins which corrupt and can no longer hold the blades in place. Plastic pins to hold wood in place!!! But who knows if they are made of wood, this company tells so many lies, particularly when they comment on this site. They obviously care about customer complaints because they respond with reasonablly sounding comments, but from what I have read, they continue to provide products which become faulty as time goes on. We are having a sign made to put on our fence warning about this company. How can these people still be in business???
They will not honour their 5 year warranty unless you pay them for their labour. I suppose you get what you pay for. In our case the cheaper price equated to shoddy materials. Read all the reviews from the many disgruntled customers and be warned.
Then read other reviews on this site from customers who have purchased from different manufacturers and you will see that other companies are not nearly as bad and you will find an ethical business to deal with.
We are in the process of ordering more plantation shutters but this time we will buy from a company in Hawthorn which is where my neighbour purchased----and all her shutters are still in good working order.
July 27th 2018 Update: Change of name to avoid bad reputation
ACA Windows was known as Rollaway Shutters. Do not be fooled into doing business with this company because they are unethical and their products are below a satisfactory standard. The only power or rights you will have against their faulty products is to warn other customers. This has been very effective as they have changed their name from Rollaway Shutters to ACA Windows also known as ACA Home improvements.
We bought plantation shutters where the blades are falling out. It is difficult to get them repaired as the spare parts come from China. ACA offer a 5 year warranty which means nothing at all as they will charge you a fee to come to your house, so it’s no warranty at all. There are other companies which are reliable, do your research and do not use this company. VCAT is quite a complicated process as you actually have to track down the owners of this company who by the way are Asian and could not care in the slightest about their substandard materials. If you can afford it, it will be more effective to go straight to a lawyer and try to force them into repairing your goods or in some cases honouring their commitments. They get the goods made in Asia for a very cheap price, then overcharge the Australian unsuspecting customers for poor quality products. Prospective consumers be warned this company will tell you outright lies. Consider putting a sign on your property with the manufacturers current and previous name, don’t let this company get away with their shoddy practices.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to… Read more (+7 replies)

Just as we about to do that we get a call and an installer arrived 6 months to the date since deposit was paid and installed the shutters. As we were asked by Consumer Affairs why we had not read the reviews and reacted by not using this company we were appalled when we did research their activities.
Do not use this company. They are inefficient, dishonest, the lies that were passed on to us and the worst was the rude response to any phone call we made.
They have the attitude buyer beware, we have your money and there is nothing you can do about it.
There are plenty of great companies doing the same job and with great service polite staff and helpful. As they were installing we had our builder check on the quality as again according to the reviews the products is dodgy.

fitted prior to Christmas, this was fine as I had the week off after Christmas and was promised this would be arranged for fitting then and I would receive a phone call. Nearer the time I called the office to arrange which day suited best with the fitter, any day that week was fine with me. Obviously the office staff have never ever heard of customer service, I experienced the rudest person I have ever dealt with. Told me they couldn't arrange a day that week and they would call back when it could be arranged nearer the time. After persisting with multiple calls and receiving very rude service I asked her to call the fitter while I waited on the other end of the phone (I was not going to give up) I finally got to speak to the fitter and nothing was a problem for him, he arranged a day, arrived on time an did an excellent job. Only hope now the shutters last but I'm sure if I have a problem I will be using other avenues rather than contact this place again. They obviously just don't get it! I have passed this message on to as many people possible. Stay away if you want good customer service!
An absolute Nightmare dealing with Rollaway Shutters, also known as ACA Home Improvements – On December 3rd a guy came out to the house and gave us a quote for one shutter. We gave him a $300 deposit and was told the shutter would be installed in January as it was coming up to Christmas. By mid January we still hadn't received a call about installation so I rang the 1800 number to find out what the delay was. The woman on the phone… Read more
said they had an extra long break over Christmas and would be ready soon.
Call again end of January and she tells me they will look in to it and get back to me so I wait for a call but nobody bothers calling back.
A week later I call again and now she tells me this shutter has been a nightmare and should be ready in a week.
Still nothing after a week so I call for the 4th time, once again she will look in to it and call me back but never does.
I call back again a few days later and she tells me the shutter finally arrived from the factory a week ago and I should had received a call to organise installation. She said the guy will call me over the weekend, I wait until Saturday afternoon and call back the 1800 number only to be told by a very rude woman that it's Sunday and they aren't open weekends.
Finally late on Sunday afternoon the guy calls to say he can install the shutter in the morning. He comes out and does a fantastic job installing the shutter but tells us we have to wait to receive a call from the electrician who will come out and finish the job.
A few days later I call the 1800 number to let them know we still haven't heard from the electrician and they said they will look into it. 3 hours later the electrician calls to say they are waiting out the front.
We rush home and they come inside and start drilling 3 huge 10mm holes into the timber panel feature wall. I hand them a box that the installation guy left behind and they say oh no this is a remote, we thought we were installing a different system that has a controller on the wall. That means they put 3 huge holes in the wall for nothing and they offer to cover it with a plastic light switch plate which looks awful but what other choice do we have. He said he can mount the remote control holder to the plate on the wall so it looks like it belongs there but when he opens the controller box there is no holder in there because someone has lost it! Now we have a silly looking plastic box on the wall and can't even attach the remote control to it!
We will never recommend this company to anyone as the whole experience has been an absolute nightmare. Upon further investigation we discovered the factory who makes the shutters is actually located in China (I'm guessing that's why it takes so long) and this company also goes by the name ACA Home Improvements amongst other things. Please do yourself a favour and avoid them like the plauge!!!
Worst Customer Service – I have had Rollaway Shutters installed for about 6 months when an internal part of one of the shutter blades popped out, chipping the wood and making the blade wonky so it no longer closes properly. I called Rollaway as soon as it happened and was directed to email in a description of the fault along with a photo, which I did straight away. I… Read more
heard nothing for x2 weeks, emailed again, no answer, called 4 times to which I kept being told someone would ring back, they never did. Almost 3 months later I had enough, demand they acknowledge the fault and repair.
The same sales rep who sold me the shutters visited to inspect the repair, only to tell me "this has never happened" and somewhat implied that it was a fault caused by my use of the shutters. These shutters are in my bedroom and remain closed for much of the time for privacy. I could not have done anything to the shutters that could have cause an internal part to pop out. I am then told, yes they can get me a new shutter blade (at no cost), however it wont arrive for a month and I have to collect it myself from Seaford and install myself otherwise its at a cost of $180, despite being covered by a "15 year warranty". I work full time and live south-east in Melbourne, so getting to Seaford to pick this up is not very convenient for me. Don't forget too I then have to install myself. This is a quality fault of their product, yet I am left doing all of the leg work to repair this. This should not be the case!
This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced and its not acceptable for 6 month old shutters. I typically never complain but am so shocked by this service. Stay away from this company!
