The 16 ROSS Bukkake experience chops wood forever – Our first dark green Ross 16' cheapOsaw had proven itself to be tuff as Hessian undies, after 4 years of hard yakka and no cuddles or birthday cakes. Let alone actual proper maintenance. Slap a chain on and clean it with air or the garden hose. She loved it. So when Grandfather and I walked into mitre10 and saw the Genral Lee 16' Orange ROSS on… Read more

sale for $75 (from memory . Its been so long since purchasing i cant recall exactly , mitre 10 dosnt even exsist in Pakenham these days. Its nowagay bummings Wanghous & my pops also no longer with us) it was so cheap & already Ross respectos we couldn't resist grabbing another cheap cut. I assembled it once home, filled up the 2mix and bar oil and then pulled it like a 15year old boy watching late night erotic sbs movies in the late 90's. Like others the lil orange bastard wouldn't go! Fuming & exhausted I gave up and returned the following arvo to try again. I eventually found it would only start no choke full throttle. Once started it was great. Cut up a landcruiser ute load of wood. Full timber pyramid stack higher than the roof . I think it was apple jack hardwood. No problemO and it has continued running great. The pull starter packed up at one stage. I replaced it for $10 ebay china sourced part. It's been treated the worst of all my Chainsaws. It and the green beast usually sit out on my verandah all winter. Get used to cut everything big & small. Especially Dirty as 16in chains are cheap and fast to re sharpen. I buy Oregon 16 bars n chains. The poor things only receive a garden hose clean out because theve been hammered. Always use until the fuels empty refill and go again once coils cool enough to fire up. These cheap pair have proven more reliable than my old + new stihl, dolmars, solo's & johnsered. And all my German quality stuff is well looked after never treated harsh like China 1+2. The green saw definitely goes harder and is built a little stronger. But overall for the price. These saws have payed for themselves to the moon and back. And they are still kicking arse. Green Ross has been flogged for like 12-14 years. Orange Ross must be around a decade of firewood sawing. Odd jobs , fencing, Yuckka tree fibre jammed clutching. It Even cut up a roo once. Pop not me. I had to clean the mess and unclog the bar and clutch/butcher shop floor ahhh What a mess. But the dogs loved the Ross meatsaw action. I recently picked up another orange TankasauROSS on a property clean up job. It was caked in crap no bar but otherwise complete. I Replaced the fuel line and carby for a few bucks. its starting first shot and cutting like a 16 year old Emo chick. Cutting firewood not wrists or goats necks for a satanic sacrifice. (Obviously) So iam 3 up. And they are treated accordingly. Zero hugs given. Just hose them off and gets the fluids. & Get cutting ! NICE & lightweight. easy to fix and take a beating. I can't believe these things still go & cut like butter. New chain and no brain. Clears the way and stays warm in winter.

When Brand new, started but wouldn't run – I bought this model as it was cheap but appeared to be well made, except for the choke mechanism which looks like it could fail at any time. When I tried to start it I couldn't get it to run but nothing was obviously wrong. I should have taken it back to the dealer but I just put it under the bench to get around to it some time. Years later I… Read more

pulled it apart to find that the fuel line was pinched during assembly so it would start but not run due to air getting into the line. I cut and shortened the line and it runs well now. The air filter set-up is also a bit dodgy.

Brilliant for the price. Great value – Have had mine for numerous years. Been a great little worker cutting up redgum. Been going like a trooper. Has been used for wood cutting, 4x4 work and general use around the house. Very happy.

Good little saw – Have had mine for years now. It has done a fair amount of work. I had to replace the oil pump and today clean and unblock the spark arrestor. No other issues with the saw at all. Good value for money.

More than Value – I've now had this saw going on 6 years and it has performed flawlessly from day one. It has started first time every time and has never needed re tuning. I use it constantly over the winter months to cut firewood and though I'd like a saw with a bigger bar it does the job just fine on some very large timber of both the hard and soft varieties. … Read more

My only regret is that it is no longer available and it will mean a different brand next time around. I've used Stihls, Huskies and a variety of other brands and the Ross lasted longer and performed better than all the others combined. I bought a larger capacity brand name saw for this years cutting and it was returned after two days as it wouldn't start, back to using the Ross.

Pretty good for $99 – For $99 at mitre 10 I can't complain. Never had any issues starting and does everything around the home I've asked of it. Chain is pretty average, I just keep sharpening it, will see if oregon have a chain that fits when the original wears out, not too bad overall.  Show details

Great little saw for around home use, not felling trees – I got 2 years out of mine from Mitre 10.Cost $99, have had my moneys worth. Mechanic reckons carby needs replacing. Quite amazing what you can cut with such a small saw. Good starter saw for beginners. I will see if I can get another carby at a reasonable price.  Show details

Hard Starter – Only started with the brake off, full revs and no choke, to keep it from conking out straight after it started had to keep the revs up pretty high. to be fair it goes fairly well once started and cuts pretty well. but is is cheap and should only be dealt with in small doses.

Not bad for the money – Thank you to all of you that have shared your experiences with this cheap little saw; I have learnt a little, and in some case a lot, from reading most of the reviews. I cut another 6 X 4 Trailer load of wood with my two Ross saws today; I felled a 15 meter black wattle with the one that I only commissioned last weekend, for fire wood for the cold… Read more

weather that is just around the corner.

It was quite difficult to start, but once I got it going it cut through the black wattle with ease, and latter in the day, I was very surprised at the ease it ripped through a large yellow box that was dead fall, with very little difficulty. After refueling, it wouldn't start, so I I fired up the Ross saw that I had been using for the previous three years and it did the job while the newer saw was cooling, however I had to experiment to overcome the problems with the motor.

For the first time, I added some carburetor/Injector cleaner to see if it would reduce the surging and rectify the inconsistent revs; it certainly made a difference and enabled me to continue cutting smaller wood while my other/newer Ross saw was cooling. I have now cut 2 X Loads of wood with this new saw so even though it doesn't start as easy as the first one, that served me well for 2-3 years of light to medium work, it too has now paid for itself, given that a square meter of wood sells for over $120.00.

Now that I have a large Ultimate Wood Heater installed in my house, I have started researching Stihl and Husky saws in order to meet my new chainsaw requirements. I guess one has to remember that these cheap Ross (Garden) saws are only designed for light work, like limb trimming and at around $95.00 a saw, we shouldn't expect them to perform like a Stihl that is at least 5-10 times the price.

Perhaps I was a little harsh in my initial assessment, I guess it comes back to the old adage "You get what you pay for". I must admit. I am very impressed with the cutting power of this little saw even if it can't sustain it for anymore then about 15-20 minutes.

Good for DIY use – I bought mine some three years ago now only for occasional use, and it fires every time, runs great! Obviously if you want something to "flog to death" then buy a Husky or a Stihl. but to have something in the shed for the odd use around the home, or a little firewood getter in the Motorhome etc, spot on little unit!

Great little saw if you take care of it – I bought mine from Mitre10, where some spare parts are available if needed. I have had it for three years and the fuel line perishing has been the only problem. I replaced it with good quality plastic tubing and not a problem since. Best not to overtax it when cutting bigger timber i.e. 200mmDIA or greater, and best to keep it cleaned and sharp so… Read more

that it stays safe and works well. Spoke to an arborist who also uses it along with several stihls and he said the only thing to watch out for was over-tightening the chain tensioner as the lug on it can break off.

Not the worst ! – Had mine for quite a while. Goes okay. Got to wait a bit until it cools down to start again after a fuel refill. The choke assembly needed replacing early on. The bloke I bought it from gave me a couple of spares. Looking around to get a new chain. Can't be bothered sharpening it myself. What you see is what you get!

Don't waste your time – Got gifted one from my father as he was unable to start it. Almost new, so far the fuel line has perished and split, spark plug cap broke and now looks like the coil has died. It is not built to last. Was online looking for a parts supplier without much luck when I decided to write this. Don't waste your time or money....

it's what you would expect for a cheapie! – This is a Chinese knock off of the Husquavarna. Sold under many brand names, usuall referred to as CS 3800 or CS5200. I had one given to me and I am pleased with it. OK I have had to clean out the oiler and put on new chain. It has a few good features not usually found in cheap saws. The clutch sprocket has a small ring which drives the chain,… Read more

so if it wears you dont have to replace the whole clutch. The oiler is adjustable so you can increase oil for harder wood. The chain tensioner is conveniently located on the side of the saw - very easy to get at.

I would say that if you are able to do some small mechanical work on it occasionally, it is a good buy. I will replace the fuel line with something more durable - thanks for that tip.

I have had lots of saws, and I have not had one that didn't need a fair bit of attention from time to time. For the office worker you are best to get an electric one, or battery operated one, they are quite powerful now.

Piece of crap – Used it once and one cooling fine broke off the fly wheel which broke the starter mech and with any piece of crap you can't get parts so don't waste your money and thank you mitre 10 for selling crap like this and taking my hard earned money. It's obvious that mitre 10 and Ross are only interested in there own pocket

Absolute piece of rubbish - use once then throw out – On the positives, I will say that on the rare occasion you can get this device working, it does cut rather nicely. On the negatives, you won't get it working unless you fluked the one that made it out the assembly line within tolerances. Never once started on choke, always had to start it with full throttle. Fuel lines do dissolve, as another… Read more

reviewer stated. You are supposed to magically know not to store equipment with modern unleaded fuels in it for more than a few hours - the manual does not state this, it only gives the 2-stroke fuel-decay warning. Regardless, even if you run it dry and flush it after every use, the lines will still dissolve.

Out of warranty, after sitting on the shelf in a perfectly clean, dry environment for a while, a friend and I had to dismantle it and waste an afternoon replacing the perished fuel line. We got it to go again, but soon it just failed to start anyway, regardless of choke, throttle or any other settings.

If you are stuck in an emergency and just need a chainsaw for a couple of hours work, this is fine because it's so cheap. But once you've used it, sell it to a scrap metal dealer.

Real cheap, but real rubbish too – Bought it thinking it would at least last a few years as I use it infrequently (had it 2 years and used it 6 times). It's really hard to start now and leaks petrol. Took off the back cover and discovered the fuel line has lots of holes, probably why it doesn't start. It was good the first few times I used it but that's it. I feel ripped off… Read more

because I only really got 6 uses out of it. My advice is: if you want a really cheap chainsaw to last a few times then this is thee one for you, but if you're looking for something to last longer than spend a bit more. :-(

Very good for the price – A $98 chainsaw with a 12 month warranty from Mitre 10. I thought you can't really go wrong with that. If it breaks within the 12 months you can get it fixed or replaced. Ross chainsaw – A surprisingly good chainsaw for the money. It is a very easy starter and cuts all day, sometimes during the firewood collection period it has to do some pretty heavy logs. Great chainsaw for the price – Picked up this chainsaw yesterday from my local Mitre 10 for under 100 bucks. Got home and assembled it, instructions aren't the best but got there anyway. Tried it out today and it started on the third pull. Knocked down a large gum tree that had fallen across my driveway with ease. Cut said tree into firewood size pieces with ease. Don't know what the other reviewer was thinking, but mine works extremely well. Get one if you can.

Ross Chainsaw – I didn't want to spend too much on a chainsaw.so I went to the local hardware store as they had a Ross Chainsaw on special for $85.00 Australian.
