refund! (Still $1800 is too much, but this is what they stated was their “normal pricing” for this sort of job). It was approx 3 hours labour plus travel.
The manager stated he didn’t know how this mistake happened but then went quiet when I asked what explanation Liam the “technician” had offered.
Be careful, especially our elderly community. Although a refund was received I can’t help but feel this might be a common occurrence to see what they can get away with …

Nick and Josh did a great job at our place. Dealt with the many issues we’d outlined and were accommodating when we thought of another issue when they were on-site and gave us multiple options to fix it.
Easy to deal with and made an effort to finish the job on time. You get what you paid for! Will recommend to family and friends/neighbours.
Guy had to get a bigger ladder but nicely done. Quoted good price. They threw in free checks for my roof to see if all compliant and safe. Definitely will call again.

unblock the drain, which I immediately declined, as I had quotes from other plumbers, quoting $200-450 max (with camera and water jet). But because the technician was already there, I asked whether there was a cheaper option, and he suggested using a chemical treatment, he said it was much cheaper option. I agreed to the chemical treatment believing it was a much cheaper alternative. I did not see or knowingly approve a $720 quote before the work was carried out.
Only when I came home and opened my emails, I saw the email from S&J Plumbing and Gas, with the quote - apparently the technician emailed me the quote when we were onsite, but did not tell me about it! I did not open, read or approve that emailed quote. Instead, while onsite, the technician presented me with an IPad showing a blank screen with a place for me to sign. The $720 price and quote were not displayed to me on that screen. I signed without understanding that my signature would apparently be treated as acceptance of a $720 quote that I had never seen (minus $89 first customer discount the Company advertise on their website to fool customers into paying super high charges they have).
The actual work took 12-15 minutes (I have prove that it was not longer than that), and the technician was off at 15.03pm. The technician used a plunger and poured one bottle of chemical drain treatment down the drain! That was it for $631 - there was no water jetting, mechanical drain cleaning or camera inspection, the basic non-urgent job during business hours.
Had the technician clearly told me, “This chemical treatment will cost $720,” I would never have agreed to it, particularly after I had just rejected the $900 jetting option because it was too expensive. After seeing the quote, I contacted the company immediately after discovering how much I had been charged. The admin lady told me that she will report my concerns and my request for the charge to be reduced and a partial refund provided. Ok, I have made an error engaging S&J, but why I have been charged at the higher end of this company price list for 30minutes of technician's time and bottle of chemical liquid? The admin lady said that S&J charges for unblocking drains are from $500-900. So to me the fair (but still inflated) charge for this service would be $500-$89=$411. Still this is far more expensive, comparable to other plumber, who quoted $200- $450 (the top tier is for using jet and camera)
The admin lady has said that a manager would call me back. I have now followed up three times and no manager has called me back.
After this experience, I have read other Google reviews for this Company - I wish we had read those reviews before calling S&J! - multiple customers reporting concerns about very high charges for relatively simple jobs, and also reporting that no one calls back when they complain.
We are now putting the dispute in writing and, if it is not resolved, intend to lodge a complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company, stay away.
DODGY COMPANY. Charged me $2000 for 90 mins of work and 15 mm of copper piping.

Arrived on time. Price quoted was outrageous however accepted the job. Over $600 to supply and fit 2 $50 pressure relief valves to a hot water tank. Job took around 20 minutes. Won't use them again

I suffer from early onset dementia and early morning brain fog so he conned me into paying $933.37 for the job which did not include the discount or the pensioner discount they claim on their website.
This company has no ethics and knowingly overcharge pensioners.

Used this business in January 2026 to clear sewer pipes. Under impression they cleared whole pipe and I'd have no problems. Was even under impression they would reline whole sewer pipe especially with quote over $9000. Last week sewer blocks up. Called them and after hours they couldn't clear it and they want over $13000 to fix sewer again? Got a plumber round today cleared sewer in 10 minutes. Do not trust this business
Great plumber and nice guy, terrible price. I was charged $780 for 30 minutes work to replace two tap spindles which I provided. Sean said it would take 'a couple of hours'. Steer clear if you're after value for money.

and I’d needed the kitchen sink doing for ages so I just went with it, but it cost over $600 to diagnose and replace a small faulty valve - which took about 30 minutes. And that included a $79 discount!!! He also quoted $700 to replace some shower taps (with me providing the taps!) and about $1200 to service my hot water boiler. Crazy!!!??? Needless to say I won’t be getting those done with these guys.

I contacted S & J Plumbing as a result of a flyer being left in our mail box thinking that they needed the work. An employee arrived on site on Friday Sept 21 for the purpose of quoting regarding the installation of a single toilet on our premises. A week has passed and no quote forthcoming. I would have thought if they didn't want this work, they could have contacted me out of courtesy. I'm going elsewhere!

I was charged $842.66 for replacing a single valve, which after researching local Brisbane pricing seems significantly higher than normal for this type of repair. The invoice was not itemised beyond “Supply and Install Expansion Control Valve 15mm”, so there was no clear breakdown for labour, callout or parts. I would strongly recommend getting multiple quotes and asking for a detailed price breakdown before approving work.

There was an allowance for potential work on the roof, but there was no discount at the end when the job appeared to be very easy and straight-forward. I dithered over choosing a plumber for ages, but I obviously ended up with the right choice. Matt and Nick have done a fabulous job of fixing my leaking toilets.
Over pricing. They won't give quote before they come onsite. End up $480 for a water efficient certificate for a 1 bathroom, 2 toilet, 1 kitchen small townhouse.
